Official 4kids Dub Thread Mk III (The End Has Come)

-
Yeah, from what I understand, you'll know you have a Neilson's box if you have one.

For one thing, the fact that you don't know about it means that you're not part of the system.
Bull… I never said I wasn't part of the system.
-
@Lobster:
Bull… I never said I wasn't part of the system.
Yeah. That's what she said.
@Lobster:
Well… how do YOU know that their isn't a raiting box in MY area... Huh!?
-
I do kinda agree in a way.
If a new dub does come to pass, it would be nice if it had a place to air on.
In order to do that, CN still needs to have interest in the series. 'Cause if they don't, well, they won't pick it up again.
And I don't think One Piece should be confined to DVD only releases.
-
@Lobster:

Because they aren't just installed randomly, the Nielsen rating boxes require the permission of the individual home to be installed, it would be illegal activity otherwise. So just ask your mom if she agreed to have one installed. ;)

One Piece already had fairly good ratings back when it was on. It was second best on Toonami (though that may not be saying too much). There's no need for us to waste away our brains.
-
@Le:
Yeah. That's what she said.
…lol? But you still lost the argument.
-
Lobster, we still have no official confirmation 4kids lost the license, and they probably haven't. They always said they had it till 2009, which means they probably have a contract, and if so I don't think even Toei could break a contract and take it away from them. And if the contract was for a selected number of episodes which they reached…they probably still have the actual license for 2 more years.
As for ratings boxes, I heard most cable/satellite systems, Time Warner, Comcast, etc.. etc.. have them built into their boxes. I don't know this for sure tho.

Lost what arguement? You're the one that challenged me to prove that you don't have a box. Secondly, it appears that no one here has ever really heard of these systems. They can feel free to say so any time, but most people probably haven't even heard of how they measure ratings.
-
nah, kinnikuman is too old school for america. Itd be like releasing hokuto no ken. its too graphic by todays standards and the animation quality woud be a turn off for many. Itd end up like lupin III real fast.(As in in gigantors 4 AM time slot)
Just be cause Kinnikuman,Hokuto no Ken,and Lupin the III are old doesn't mean that they aren't cool i saw Warsman vs Manriki on Youtube before it was remove and it was cool

We did it before.
But, nah, I understand. I'm jus' sayin' that either way, it needs to mantain steady ratings inorder for CN to renew One Piece IF it gets a new dub.
-
@Lobster:
…lol? But you still lost the argument.
lol idk…i think u lost the argument

-
@Le:
True that. But we basically saw what we needed from Cinder's clips.
WRONG
Once again, Spambot.
DEAD WRONG
We haven't seen how Tonnami will "pimp" one piece. They may give it new bumpers. Also the "Tonnami 10th Anniversery prieview" is airing tonight. So there is a pretty good chance that One Piece might get a good show case during it.
And you know as they say… an anime is only as good as it's "showcased".
-

-
Doubt it, they're too busy kissing Naruto's ass.
Nicely put.
But we can only hope.
Remember 2 years ago, before Naruto, when they actually "pimped" their shows equally? One Piece had cool 5 minutes of Kuro being bad @ss, some Gash Bell, Bobobo, etc…
But more recently it's been 98% Naruto 1% Yugio GX and 1% everything else...
My prediction.
1. Maguzi will kick the bucket
2. Tonnami 5 days a week, with a Saturday midnight run. One Piece will air uncut weekdays, recaping. And air new episodes at midnight on Saturday.Yes... can you believe it?...
-
Midnight? Why midnight?
9:30pm is a good time for it.
-
Yea… but they used to have "the midnight run", with the Cell Saga of DBZ.
-
…for it to air on Saturday at midnight they would have to boot Adult Swim off.
EDIT: Oh, and a midnight slot would mean instant death for One Piece. It's better to air it when kids are up.
-
If we get a new dub, air it right before or right after Naruto. Best slots IMO. I don't know why, but I think a new OP dub could do well in those timeslots.
-
I miss when Toonami was 5 days a week. I still think its was a bad move changing it to saturday nights only.

Wrong what? Naruto has always been Toonami's favorite. There's pimping going on at all.
Seriously, Saying I'm wrong and putting smilies does not make you correct.
Remember 2 years ago, before Naruto, when they actually "pimped" their shows equally? One Piece had cool 5 minutes of Kuro being bad @ss, some Gash Bell, Bobobo, etc…
Not really. Naruto was around that time too.
My prediction.
1. Maguzi will kick the bucketDespite that I think it's a huge nuisance, It's probably hitting the right demographics, after school elementary kids and Ben 10 and what not.
2. Tonnami 5 days a week, with a Saturday midnight run. One Piece will air uncut weekdays, recaping. And air new episodes at midnight on Saturday.
Yeah… I don't think that's gonna happen. At all.
I miss when Toonami was 5 days a week. I still think its was a bad move changing it to saturday nights only.
Bad for us, yes. But bad at aiming at the kiddie kids? No. absolutely not.
-
Toonami should never have been booted to Saturday's only…wow..Midnight Run...that brings back memories.
As for Toonami not being aimed enough at kids, ahem.
SCREW KIDS!
XD
I grew up watching Toonami and loved it.
-
Yes! Goddamn! It bothers me knowing there's nothing watchable anymore when I come home from school.
-
I mean, yeah, I enjoyed a lot of shit back when. But the viewership of the public is changing mind you. That's how My Gym Partner's a Monkey, Ben 10, and an assortment of other zoo animals become so popular. It's that it appeals to the younger demographic and fits in with the soccer moms of the era that have come to prominence with quite a few screw ups on TV (Janet Jackson wardrobe malfuction ahem).
Me? I don't watch anything when I get home.
-
Yes! Goddamn! It bothers me knowing there's nothing watchable anymore when I come home from school.
I hear ya. I also remember when it was worth it getting up in the morning to watch saturday morning cartoons.
-
I hear ya. I also remember when it was worth it getting up in the morning to watch saturday morning cartoons.
Oh god, it use to pain me so much when I slept in on Saturday's. Now it is such crap I hope to god I do sleep in.
-
God I miss the days when Tenchi and Kenshin were on 5 afternoons a week
-
One thing I didn't like about weekday-Toonami, though, is that most of the shows reverted to showing reruns rather quickly…
-
No shit. That was awesome. A shame that cartoon network had to compromise with soccer moms.
that most of the shows reverted to showing reruns rather quickly…
O well, they're better reruns than Ben 10 running over and over.
-
Oh god, do I miss Tenchi.
Hey, you all remember Reboot?
-
I watched Reboot in Canada like… two years ago. It sucked.
-
I only remember it on while I was a kid, I sure it did suck, but it is a child-hood memory, what do you expect?
I can't remember shit about it tho. XD
Before I lost cable back in 2005 I was watching Tenchi on the International Channel, that was awesome to be watching it again.
-
God I miss the days when Tenchi and Kenshin were on 5 afternoons a week
Even Outlaw Star was good during that time.
-
Remeber RIsing Sun? The program CN use to run Sat mourinings
-
On topic… God, I forgot how annoying Dub Mr.3 is. I was actually glad Sanji kicked the shit outta him.
-
It will be Midnight because thats pretty much when all the good anime is on Cartoon Network. Like Bleach, 12:00 Saturday/Sun whatever you want to call it.
-
http://www.4kidsentertainment.com/home/home.php
notice how "One Piece" is NOT listed in properties anymore -
Oh god, do I miss Tenchi.
Hey, you all remember Reboot?
lol i just remember the names Dot and Bob…cuz those are cool names XD

Tonight episode was okay. Nothing spectacular. They changed a few lines but nothing to have a heart attack over.
Random thoughts: Some things to consider. Sure they stopped dubbing OP but that doesn't neccesarily mean its cancelled. After attempting a non-stop season on Fox, they could merely be taking a break for a while. That's when you see repeats. Another reason for them to stop dubbing could be the cost of producing the show, mostly from paying Toei rights fees, has gotten too expensive to justify it airing on CN. Of course, with it running on CN and maybe producing good enough ratings, 4Kids could renogiate the current contract for a lower cost and production can begin again. So I guess we'll have to wait and see. Unfortunately it wont be until the current arc ends which could be six months from now.
I was watching Prince of Tennis Episode 18 on CN and unless I totally lost track of time, they skipped ahead more than 10 episodes. Which means the list of companies besides 4Kids that have skipped episodes have grown to three.
- Funimation (Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT, Detective Conan)
- Pioneer (Lupin the III)
- VIZ/CN (Prince of Tennis)
So those who want OP to go to another company beware, the grass is not greener on the other side.
Also Irresistablement kept a list of all the members who predicted how many episode of the Alabasta Arc(after Little Garden) will air. Numbers ranged from 18 to 33. If things continue at this pace, everyone would have predicted wrong.
@Afro:Remeber RIsing Sun? The program CN use to run Sat mourinings
Ah yes, I remember that programming block. It was a time when CN was becoming a Anime network. Now its regressing.

-
Grass not greener?! All those episode skips were for reasons specific to those series. Hell, all the changes to DC were made at the behest of the Japanese producers, not FUNimation.
Also, it most likely means that it's cancelled. It's already been announce dthat they're done dubbing it, not that it's on any kind of hiatus.

If 4kids had ANY plans at all to continue the One Piece dub, they would keep it on their site and not had removed it from the "properties" listing in their 4kidsentertainment.com site.
Please try reading the topic before making any replies. I don't want to play this game where we repeat and site info to you that you just ignore. -

Nope, it's definitely over. 4kids officially stopped dubbing literally one episode into Jaya, which was the first thing that said to me that they were stripped of their license, and recently, more evidence to support my claim has arose, including 4kids removing the OP links from their site and property list, even though they held the license until 2009.

Also remember, that the first two on that list did that a LONG time ago and are nothing like that now, FUNimation is even releasing a true uncut Dragonball Z now, remastered in High Definition as well! As for the VIZ thing, you probably are mistaken, although I don't know for sure either.

Well, considering 4kids really did stop dubbing One Piece, and it has been public knowledge for quite some time, even having an article appearing in last month's Newtype, someone must have been close.
-
Haha, "we know what KIDS like". That's funny, 'cause my kid brother knows who they are, and he hates 'em.
Anyway, it is off the property list, and that's promising. Odd that Luffy's still on their banner, though.
-

IIRC, someone's friend predicted it would be uncut…
Episode-wise, that is.

Well first of all, none of those companies you listed actually "skipped" episodes. For DBZ and DC, it was all, and IS all the decision of the broadcasting network to pick which episodes to air and not. Furthermore, all of the episodes are available on DVD. Prince of Tennis also falls under the same scenario, Toonami is skipping episodes, not VIZ. And from what I understand, PoT and MAR aren't gonna be on Toonami for much longer, but this was planned. As for Pioneer, I'm pretty sure that only the second Lupin III TV series was licensed, ever. Of that series, only one episode wasn't aired, but given the title and the descrpition of the episodes in the preview for the episode, I can imagine why ("To Be, or Nazi Be").
Now unlike the other companies, when 4kids skips episodes, they literally get written out of their scripts, tossed aside, and their existance goes unacknowledged. (see "Fanastic Voyage" and of course Little Garden).

Oh I see. I was going by the letter some guy received when he wrote to the sales department and it was used to report it on ANN. After looking it up on the Internet, it was the only thing I found on the subject. I rescind my early statement

They skipped the first few eps of DBZ, they written out a character from a previous show (Launch) which had no reason to do that. They are only releasing uncut episodes after it’s a huge success not before. They skipped the first 18 or so of DBGT when it was aired, I don’t think CN had anything to do with that. Then they mixed episodes of Case Closed. I read that they skipped the first season of Lupin III, I don’t think CN had anything to do with that either. PoT, I‘ll give you that one. I’m just saying it seems to be a common practice. Long time ago doesn’t mean anything. The point is that companies when they deem it, will do whatever they feel like.
