It's been like that for a long time now. Morikawa just does short chapters. Why? Who knows, maybe it's to keep him from burning out.

I reckon it does work out somehow. Most of the time I barely notice the page count - it's only because the action slowed down the last couple chapters that I went and checked - and the author is rarely taking breaks at all. Good for him :)
