Amazing chapter. I loved it.
Basically I think he's either not gonna lose again until he gets the title, or he's going to pull a Date and retire for a bit until he realizes that retirement sucks.
Hajime no Ippo

-
Adds a hype for me. It means that he won't lose ever again as long as this manga is still considered as fiction.
-
Sigh, a great chapter marred by the fact it took us way too fucking long to get here.

Still worth it though right?
I mean, I'm SO glad that this series is this long. -
I never know what to think of Kumi. It's nice that she cares, but shouldn't she be a little more supportive? She's almost as bad as his mother.

Well, it's already bad enough she has to see his brother be a bloody pulp all the time and he has a real reason for doing it, he needs the money, Ippo isn't in that dire a situation, but more importantly, he just gave her the LAMEST reason for why he boxes. He does it for others expectations, to me that just means that he has no personality whatsoever and he does it not because he desires it, but because people put effort into him and he can't deliver. If Ippo actually had some personal drive in it outside of pleasing everybody, then maybe Kumi would actually try and respect it more instead of telling him to his face how much of an idiot he is being.

He said he betrayed everyone's expectations. He never said that's what he's explicitly fighting for. Kumi just assumed that and Ippo didn't have an answer for her because his real answer is so much more personal and probably harder for her to understand. Ippo lost sight of his goal but it's not like he never had a goal to begin with when he got into boxing.

Kumi just said, 'Ippo was already the Japanese champion, what more is there for him to prove?' If Ippo told her he, 'wants to know what it means to be strong' she would have just reiterated, "But you were the Japanese champion!!!" so instead he didn't really give her an answer because it would have undoubtedly complicated the situation.
He will fight striving for that goal from now on.
-
Ippo had his reason when he first started boxing and its already effected many many people who've come in contact with him: No matter who you are, what you look like, or how tough your life is, you too can be strong. You too can be brave and you too can be a champion. Its a very strong message that he seems to lost his way with. People look up to him now, young males who are down on their luck and don't believe in themselves now believe in themselves because of him. His role is to inspire and he's done that quite well, he just needs to remember that, grasp it and take it all the way to the top. He's living proof of his method after all, he needs to prioritize himself.

Ippo 1076 up today on Mangastream.
That was disconcerting.
-
Brain damage had to be addressed eventually.
-
This chapter gave me Ashita no Joe vibes
-
I'm suprised that the guy put up with Ippo destroying his work like that. edit: Well, right , it's just a fiction.

Also it appears that his best friend might have brain damage, but this is just fiction so the characters wouldnt really care about that.
-
In a couple of chapters ippo dies because of brain damage. The series ends pretty dark.^^

We've been beating that to death on the Dynamite Glove forums….don't know why.

I don't know why but I laughed pretty hard at that. That is absolutely terrible.

New Chapter up on Mangastream (1078).
Some mild Takamura antics -
Heavy stuff.
So dickpressing. -
I always thought the coach was going to die or have a near death experience (suffer a heart attack and wind up bed ridden in a hospital) before the end of this manga. I know Takamaru probably didn't mean "physically" hurt but the man is old and stressed enough for it to happen. I'm surprised it hasn't happened already but the author is probably waiting for that right moment.
-
Wow, this was a powerful chapter. So Ippo truly didn't understand after all. I noticed that instead of going straight to the gym and training again despite what everyone said he lounged around and unwittingly made excuses, just not about his loss. Instead of beating the bag at 5 am or spearheading his way back into the ring he just, stood there. It kind of feels like Ippo hasn't moved forward at all in his time boxing and its surreal.
-
Gonna be awhile for Ippo's next fight. Probably over a year in our time.
-
I love it when Hajime no Ippo gets all philosophical. And this is one of the rare times when we get to see Takamura acting as the mature boxer that he really is underneath the immature delinquent he prefers to act like.
-
Was wondering what Takamura would do, and it's the perfect Takamura response. Somewhat surprising, but it's the right call. Ippo has been treating this like a hobby, never making excuses seems like you're accepting your deficiencies and not willing to break through them. Old man was freaking out, and knew they weren't prepare for the fight.
Now well see ippo do some soul-searching, might be a while.
-
The world line metaphor should've been done sooner. Not after facing the number two after a decent fight. I don't get that sense of awe or wonder of these fighters in the world division since they haven't shown any…..
-
I am extremely disappointed with this chapter. Why is Ippo still asking questions? Why is he running after Takamura when Takamura clearly stated not to cross the line lest he want to tangle with monsters? Was that whole broken man, can't step forward thing forgotten in like 2 seconds? This is severely hurting Ippo's development. After losing, possible signs of brain damage and striking a negative cord with Takamura he still acts like nothing is wrong with those silly grins and dumbfounded looks. You can't just have heavy-handed shit then act like it didn't mean anything after, this is why Ippo is 1000+ chapter with little to no progress after all these years.

I would think it being 1000 + chapters has more to do with the fact that Morikawa's writing for characters besides Ippo not simply because he wants to troll a very small section of Ippo's fanbase.

Because, as per Coach's orders, he has to train with Takamura, which has nothing to do with the decision to cross the line (Ippo probably went around it so he could follow). The issue is still there, it's just been put on hold.
-
That last page, lol.
Gotta love Sendo. -
I can read Japanese (mostly) so I can say the next two chapters are hilarious. The scanlators are a little behind.
-
Hahaha! I have a feeling I'm going to love the fighting out of the ring more than the actual fight itself. I wonder if they're actually going to start fighting again once Mashiba is done with his match~
-
Long time no see. I had to go to page 4 to dig this thread up.
Anyway, new chapter is out and it was thankfully short. Not that I have a problem with a Mashiba match but I'm just really looking forward to Takamura's match, so a short a sweet match from Mashiba and Sendou is much appreciated.
-
2 new chsapters are out and I cracked up at the end of Mashiba's fight. These 2 fighting out of the ring is more entertaining than them on the inside but I like how it all flows together.
-
Scanalators are a couple of chapters behind (5)…... anyone else liking this current fight between Bison and Takamura?

Yo, i just started watching Hajime no Ippo and i'm currently at Episode 31. Better late than never, eh? XD It's really awesome so far!!
At which chapter does the anime end? I have a feeling that i won't be satisfied after i finish the 3rd season …

S1: End of Volume 30.
Kimura OVA covers volume 31/32.
Champion Road covers both Volume 34/35 ( This comes after Kimura OVA, most tend to watch it before Kimura due to production order)
New Challenger ends at Volume 47
Rising ends at Volume 61 ( But the Rising adaptation skipped a lot of characterisation for some of the boxers unfortunately and some other chapters). If I were you, I would also read from chapter 416 (Where Rising starts) then catch up to the latest chapters.
I do. Both of them took huge hits. They are 6 chapter behind.
That
! flicker counter was awesome and yes it was 6 chapters.

I dropped this manga ever since the author decided that ippo needed another 1000 chapters of growth. But I always watch Takamura fights, they never ever disappoint.
-
Well, lucky for you, we're in the middle of one.
For those who don't read Japanese:
! Takamura's taking hits . . . . . because he's not seeing the left punches. Or rather, he CAN'T see the left punches. Dun dun duunnnnnnnn!!!!!!

Eagle fight was a bit disappointing but I digress.

How long til Takamura overcomes this through sheer determination and will despite the obvious handicaps?
Oh great now the jadeness is starting to get to me too.

What can Takamura Mamoru do!?
-
16 chars of Takamura, no!!
-
Takamura won't lose…author simply won't allow it. He is as stubborn and tenacious as Ippo but also is boxing prodigy and physical monster...nothing and no one can defeat Takamura on boxing. Bison will get destroyed next time he tries that big left swing, even if Takamura won't see it he will simply predict it.

Even Bison says he's facing a Boxing Legend.

All the while he's giving Takamura the worst beating anyone's ever handed to him.
-
Morikawa hinted about problems with Takamura's eye a looooooonnnngggg time ago (we're talking years here). Now it's come to fruition.
-
Well he's practically
! blind in the recent chapters so I wonder how it'll play out. Also, Takamura had already 2 black enemies but I would love to see him facing Tyson in his prime. Probably would be his hardest match ever.
-
Bison giving him that knockdown (chapter 1115).

Its the same with Ippo, he has been shown to be affected by boxing drunkness for all the massive concussions he has taken from all his matches…. He has been winning often just because sheer grit and stubborness not because he is technically better boxer...
I mean can you even imagine Ippo winning match with points?
-

He's not practically blind. He just has a blind spot in his right periphery field of vision. If his right eye was practically blind, he practically wouldn't have depth perception and he wouldn't be able to box.
