I kinda hope Luffy will ask SogeKing to join the crew… Since you know he's better than Usopp EVER was.
(Not to be taken seriously... Really I'm an Usopp fan after all.)

That might happen. Then Luffy will find out it's Ussop and be like, "NO WAI!!" along with Chopper.
That would be even cooler if soon afterwards Usopp took off the costume and went back to Luffy and asked to join (as Usopp) and was accepted.
Then he could have this awesome super-hero thing going on…Chopper could be his Robin.....and he'd have the Snipe Signal. A giant crosshair light that the Commisioner could light up on the city walls.
And everyone but Luffy would know whats going on, and Luffy would always wonder why either Usopp or instead SniperKing showed up, and not the other.
All on thier ship.
Even the city buildings.
then luffy would think he had nine crewmates a board:laugh:
What would be funny and unexpected is if Ussop finally reveals himself and Luffy says, "Yeah I know it was you…" or something like that... I doubt that'll happen but it'd be awesome I think.

He is the terror that FLAPS in the night!
He is the wedgie in your underwear!
He is SOGEKING!
Only problem with Luffy asking Sogeking to join…is that would mean he's completely over Usopp and ready to replace him. I'm sure Usopp thinks that Luffy thought he was easily replaceable, and I'd rather Luffy disprove that in some way.
I hope that if Sogeking ask Luffy to let him join, I hope Luffy will reject and tell Sogeking that he don't want another sharpshooter taking Usopp's place. Hell after the Luffy VS. Usopp fight, Luffy did not think about getting another sharpshooter; Plus Luffy became a gothic. Luffy still cares for Usopp: He became sad when he saw the perfect clima, he hoped to find Usopp in the deattached cart 7-6, he screamed at Franky for beating up Usopp, He never though about recruiting Sogeking. Luffy would say that he olny wants Usopp as his sniper and Sogeking would take off his mask and shock Luffy.
I think Luffy knows who is Sogeking is. I mean we always thought he is an idjit and he does act that way, but sometimes Luffy is demmed perceptive. But then again…;)
@joekido:
Plus Luffy became a gothic.
Gothic? [Inigo Montoya]That word…you keep using it. I do not think it means what you think it means.[/Inigo Montoya]
But yeah, if Luffy rejected Sogeking and said he can't replace Usopp, that would be awesome.
I think it's possible that Luffy does know Sogeking is Usopp, but highly doubtful. Luffy isn't very good at lying like that. ;)
Yes, I keep using the word "Gothic" a lot. It describes the gloominess Luffy had after his fight with Usopp. He became despressed and he's rarely happy. This happens between chapter 334-368, after hearing the truth about Robin, his spirit goes back high again and he stop being "Gothic". He still cares for Usopp BTW.
… "Gloomy" suits him just fine ^^;
I'm pretty sure Luffy will ask Sogeking to join.
I mean, Usopp left, and he as a pirate must move on. Even if he doesn't want to, he needs to fill the sniper/shooter position.
In fact, I bet Luffy asks Soge and Franky. At the same time.

It's true that they need to move on, but Luffy doesn't always think practically. When Nami betrayed them in the beginning, and outright told them to get another navigator because she wasn't interested, he wouldn't hear it.
But we'll see how it turns out. It could be cool for him to ask in a certain way.
Well, Luffy also "knows" that Sogeking is a "friend" of Usopp, so its just as likely that he'd ask Sogeking where he could find Usopp. Ahh, I can visualize it now…
Having defeated CP9, rescuing Robin, and giving Spandam the Monster Atomic Wedgie he so truly deserves, Luffy is ready to return to Water 7 and board the Going Merry. Nami reminds him (violently) that Merry isn't their ship anymore. Then Luffy remembers The Fight, and grows somber once more. Announcing in an almost-dead whisper of himself that its time to move on, Luffy turns to Sogeking and says "Can I ask you a question?" Usopp starts thinking "This is it. He really has forgotten all about me. But I'll show him! I'll take off this mask, and won't he be surprised. Then I'll give it to him good! I'll say--wait, what will I say? I..I want to say yes, but-no, I'm past that! I can't go back again! Can I?" When Luffy asks him why he's spacing out-by pinching him-Sogeking is broken out of the reverie and shouts at Luffy, demanding to know what he wants to ask. "I wanted to ask you if you know where Usopp went! " Luffy shouts heartily.
The rest, is up to your imagination.
Hehe….I can see something like that happeneing. But the way the story has been going so far, I'm more inclined to believe Oda is going to handle it in some way I'd never think of.
Only problem with Luffy asking Sogeking to join…is that would mean he's completely over Usopp and ready to replace him. I'm sure Usopp thinks that Luffy thought he was easily replaceable, and I'd rather Luffy disprove that in some way.
That pretty much wraps around what I wanted to say.

I think the same way due to the burning flag thing.
How could Luffy ask someone who is here to help just for a while to do such a thing if he wasn't sure who this person is?
Asking Sogeking to burn the flag implies two things :
So, Either Luffy is really dumb (and he can be :) ), or he knows enough about Sogeking to trust him so far.
P.S. : sorry for the english, French man inside …
Sogeking is a Hero, maybe Luffy tought that the Hero is here to help, so as a Hero, he won t have any problem with the consequences !

No exactly the same.
Luffy never allowed her to not be his Nakama anymore. Or leave his crew. So Nami even when she betrayed them and didn't want to be his Nakama, Luffy didn't accept it.
The same thing has happened with Robin. She is not allowed to leave, until Luffy dismisses her.
Usopp was dismissed. Luffy/Usopp ended their ties. And this is why Luffy as a captain has to move on. And thats why I think he'll ask Sogeking, only to be surprised when him and Chopper find out it was really Usopp. So Luffy essentially reinvited Usopp to be his Nakama, without even realizing it.
Luffy did not dismiss Robin, and Luffy never prevents her from leaving. Luffy wanted to know what Robin is leaving them and refuse to accept Robin's lack of commutication
Robin then tells everyone why she left them not because of the BC but because she was afried of getting betrayed by Luffy and co. Luffy chased her all the way to Enies Lobby and Luffy convice her to say she wants to live, which Robin did. Luffy refused Nami's betrayel and stalks her to Commi Islands and it's not untie after Luffy kicked Arlong's ass did Nami rejoin the crew. And yes Luffy must move on but that does not mean he has to stop caring for Usopp, Luffy would want Usopp back in the crew after Usopp ask him to let him back in. No one kicked Usopp out, no one wanted him to leave, Usopp just walked out. He can walk back in if he wants to with open arms

Still doesn't change the fact that Usopp and Luffy broke their tie and both accepted it.
Luffy as a pirate may want Usopp back, but he can't simply wait or count on it. In Luffy's mind, Usopp is gone. We all know Usopp is there fighting with them, but Luffy thinks it is Sogeking. And he has a position on his crew to fill, and he doesn't expect Usopp to come back. You know, since they fought, and Luffy was forced to kick Usopp's ass.
I think Luffy will see how Sogeking is, and either ask or insist he be part of his crew. Then of course it is Usopp.

But that's a problem, because obviously Sogeking is Usopp. So if he asks Sogeking to join, most likely Usopp will refuse, because he can't just keep up the act forever, and anyway, he would honor what the agreed upon unless Luffy says otherwise. Luffy has to ask Usopp as Usopp back for it to work. That's the only way they're going to reconcile.
Don't know if this was mentioned (sorry, didn't feel like checking), but my idea for it is for Sogeking's mask to fall apart right in front of Luffy (since it's been damaged a few times). Luffy asks why he helped, and Usopp says something like, "We've been through so much, and I owe you for helping me become brave."
Shit idea, I know (if what Zephos said came true, then damn XD ).

True.
But he could always ask Sogeking, and Sogeking reveals he is Usopp. And Luffy still doesn't withdraw the invite and Usopp accepts.
That doesn't sound like a very good way for the story to go. There's more to a story than just a flow of information.
Like I said, it'll probably go in a way that nobody would have thought of.
What irony, the reason why I'm here in the message board was because of the Luffy Vs. Usopp fight and Nico Robin's disappearnce(I was here since chapter 340 was out) and almost two years I'm still waiting for Usopp to ask Luffy to let him rejoin the crew and get the answer I've been waiting for a long time. Oda you sure know how to lure in new fans.
Hearing about Luffy and Usopp fighting is also what got me to start DL'ing the manga. I just couldn't take hearing spoilers and not knowing what's happening anymore.
Heck I'm so lazy that I came here also because of the Luffy vs Usopp fight when it came out and yet… I just finished Arabasta in the manga today... Well later on I'll do all of Jaya and then it'll be Skypiea ahoy
I guess it's because I've been anime only so long but heck I figured even with the horrible translations on the scanlations it's better than nothing.
I seriously don´t see where the problem is that Usopp will re-join as Usopp. The "fight between friends" concept is a pretty old one and in the end they always come together again. The only difference in One Piece to other stories is that it was build up in an above awesome that it looks as if it´s definite. That´s only to get the entire problem over better.
One Piece is a story about friendship and friends do fight with each other sometimes but afterwards they are even better friends. If the bond of friendship between Luffy is going to break because of a fight, then it never wasn´t really strong to begin with and break was a logic consequence.
Friendships whcih fall appart in hard times aren´t real friendships to begin with. And for the Strawhats this doesn´t apply. The sole fact that Usopp is fighting as Sogeking along the Strawhats shows how strong the bond of friendship really is. It still isn´t broken, it just goes through a very difficult phase.
Usopp will return to the crew as Usopp. Oda wrote a kickass fight among friends and now the only thing that´s left to do is to write a kickass reunion. We all know that he can do it.

That is very true. Consider the fights between Luffy and Zoro and Luffy and Vivi. Granted they were nowhere near as serious as the Luffy VS Usopp fight, but they still were crucial to the story and character development.

Wasn't Luffy VS Zoro just a random plot device which had nothing to do with story and character development. Neat, but not really crucial at all.

Fair enough. Vivi VS Luffy was important, though, no doubt.
