Bleach is doing pretty good for itself.
-
So is One Piece. The first volume is on the ninth printing. Naruto doesn't even have twice that yet.
-

Doesn't Naruto sell alot more than One Piece, though? How can that be true?
-
im confused.. "naruto doesnt have twice that yet" twice what? are you saying they arent near their 18th printing yet or what?
-
One Piece volume one is on printing nine. Last I checked Naruto was on 16.
-
Um…then that means the demand is high....
-
So naruto is getting taken out of mag for a bi-monthly release? Jesus, thats there money maker, how in the hell is the magazine going to sell?
Yeah that's what it says on their little schedule in the back of volume 17. It says starting March the time jump will start and Naruto volumes will be released every other month.

Or, it could be OP #1's translation was so riddled full of errors it's had to be proofed over and over, thus costing VIZ Media more money with each fixing.

Bingo!!
-
Lets not forget that it could also be the whole transfer to Zolo which adds to the number of printings.
BTW, I managed to come across one of the limited editions of volume 1 with the foil cover during my vacation. Where "Zoro" is still used.
-
I've got the first 4 volumes that say Zoro. "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is the first volume that uses Zolo.
-
Yeah if I remember right they started with Zolo around volume 5 but it's such a miniscule thing I haven't paid much attention to it.
-

Same here. I'm even half tempted to buy volumes 1 - 4 with the Zolo change so my "Zoro" copies are kept in a good condition (not that I'd ever sell them).
-

How so? I'm not very inclined to always believe that fan translations are the best.
-

They had a foil edition? Dang. I have a first edition copy, but I probably would have bought it twice if I knew they'd released a shiny foil cover.
-
Nah I'd rather keep my copies with Zoro in them. That way when I pass my manga on to the next generation they will know that he was always Zoro before they changed him.
-
One Piece Volume 15 sold like shit compared to the volume 14 by not even ranking in the top 100 for August.
http://www.icv2.com/articles/home/11292.htmlIt ranked 56 in April.
-
Well it's to be expected after all One Piece isn't as popular here as in Japan. Probably never will be either.
-
It's been doing pretty ok for the last several volumes. This is a pretty big drop off though and I put partial blame on the terrible 4 month wait.
-
I'd sort of prefer a bi-monthly release of OP, and ending when it catches up, which will be in like five years… -.-
-
That's because Volume 15 had a suckie cover. Volume 14 had an awesome cover with Luffy and Vivi, standing infront of the Little Garden villians.
Kids buy things because of the COVERS.

Why would the cover with the gigantic leering green child molestor face sell at all by your logic?
-
Even if One Piece is popular. I don't see why they keep it in the manga since they want to advertise Naruto and Bleach more. Why not just take it out and make it bi monthly? Saves One Piece fans the trouble of having to wait a third of a year just to get a volume if you ask me.
-
Its a weird complex situation. Viz wants to support OP, but it cuts it off by making limited releases per month in a magazine and even less in paperback. At the same time, they speed up Naruto, first by releasing more volumes then this whole "lets get to the timeskip" push either to milk Naruto for all its worth before it goes downhill or because "its their big property". And of course they already got Soul Society done in Bleach and are pretty much moving it to the magazine either for more milking or to just slow it down.
Hopefully the Funi anime will make OP's interest rise again so we could get some sort of "sail ahead" to Long Ring Long Land or Water 7 (or even Skypiea), but so far Viz treats it more like damaged goods due to the 4Kids treatment. (that and all the typical complaints by people who don't know better: the characters look strange, they are childish, etc., preventing them from seeing the real brilliance)

Hey, if that turns out to be true, only 10 more days till anime debut!

Two giants swinging their swords out, with two adventurers on the bottom compared to
A molester, a little girl, an anorexic punk blue haired girl, and an adventurer. Oh and a giant duck.If I was seeing OP for the first time, I would definitely look at volume 15 first.
-
By his logic kids must go crazy for super bloated Luffy since that was the highest ranked volume, vol. 13, I've seen so far.

You're insane x.x
Volume 15 looks lame if you don't know what it is. Volume 14 is just plain hawt. The color scheme, everything. It's got the bad @ss villian sipping on tea. Man. What a great cover. I'm not saying that 15 sucks, it's just that it's the worst cover (besides the one with Hirluk, Luffy, and Chopper)
-
I also like Vol.14 cover better than Vol.15 cover
-
I just noticed Viz changed the volume color for 15. It went from red to some purplish color. Couldn't find a bigger image.

The boogie man Viz changes all of them =(
See, look how much they change the colors.

I care about covers, the quality, but not if it cuts a face out a little, or different color.
Anyway, I hear Vol. 15 got low sales.

I find that impossible. I went to my borders and there was a FULL shelf of One Piece volume 14. A freaking FULL shelf. They were so tightly packed in too, that I couldn't even pull the volumes out, I had to take a display. I went back the next day, and they were ALL gone.
-
Well since Naruto is heading for a bi monthly release in March the only thing One Piece will have to compete with is Bleach so maybe then One Piece will get a little more attention.
-
Naruto is still staying in the magazine.

It was just the cover, actually.

If anything Viz hardly even tries to advertise One Piece. Whereas every commercial break you'll see one or two Naruto commercials and it's being advertised like heck in the magazine much less any Viz related graphic novels. Maybe if they would at least try to advertise One Piece more they could get more people to read it. Heck they do the same with Zatch Bell.
-
They do tell people to watch the show on Cartoon Network, Toonami Jetstream, and to pick up the latest DVD release. They only have to rights to the manga and the edited DVDs after all. I just wonder how they're going to advertise Funimation's DVDs if at all.
I just noticed that Viz doesn't keep Wapol's habit of calling others Hippo. Sure it's Japanese word play but it stinks that they've omitted it entirely.

Well FUNi does somewhat of a good job when it comes to advertising their properties… Well DBZ at least. Maybe they'll try advertising One Piece the same way to get more people to buy it.
-
Well someone correct me if I'm wrong but won't Viz still be releasing their DVDs while Funi starts selling theirs? I don't see them advertising both in the same page but who knows.
-
@Yuugi's:

Aw, damn.
(Actually looked up ordering the first DVD and apparently it's like forty bucks.)
-
So, who's on the cover? I assume Ichigo..?
-
I'm still a tad confused why the heck Viz needs to publish the last chapters of a volume coming out the same exact time for Bleach. The only reason why in my head is either a teaser, to start the story or to just get the last Soul Society chapters out there while starting the new stuff. (Shinji, Isshin)
Sort of happy that OP and YYH are finally getting a bit more respect in a few more chapters, but at the same time I'm starting to imagine this being temporary until Naruto returns. With all the space they'll be giving to that and Bleach…its like everything else doesn't exist. (and personally I wish they would do more than one Bo-bobo chapter a month if only to get to Denbo)
-

That's a good point. As I understand it, Viz will still have the rights and be releasing the discs through 143 (I mean 104), and Funi will of course be doing everything after that. I doubt Viz would advertise Funi's high episode discs while trying to sell their own that are chronologically next.
On the other hand, promoting Funi's dub is probably their best shot at getting the series more popular, thus selling more volumes. They may step up the "Watch it now on carton network!" ads. Maybe. Probably not. Whatever. We'll just have to see what happens over the course of the next few volumes as the transition is made.
