Meh, I am probably not the first to say this…but I was eatin' my dinner and caught an ad for OP on Miguzi! Unlife, perhaps?
One Piece returns…to Miguzi?
-
-
Ewww….
Miguzi..... the bastard child of the late Toonami...
I remember when...Anyway, the dub fits there....it was frustrating having that edited crap less than an hour away from Adult Swim..... it was mockery.
-
I always thought it belonged on Miguzi anyway. xD It didn't fit in it's time slot.
-
Only good thing on Miguzi is Yugioh GX. At least it isn't clogging up Toonami.
amazed by taboo's avatar
-
It's still keeping it's Toonami timeslot, the Miguzi timeslots are just in addition to its showings.
-
One Piece is still showing on Toonami for it's "new to CN" episodes.
They're putting it on Miguzi for it's reruns, now that it has enough episodes for a weekday slot.
-
I miss weekday Toonami. =(
-
Is it permanently gone from 4kids.tv? >_> Only Doremi came back…
-
I miss weekday Toonami. =(
Amen to that
By the way, does anyone happen to know know the TV ratings for the Miguzi block?
-
I see alot of you people are talking about One Piece not belonging on Toonami. Actually One Piece DOES belong on Toonami. (You should all know how much they like lengthy anime) Just not the shoddy 4Kids dub but rather a more uncut friendly version.
And why does everyone badmouth Miguzi? Just because it has Yu-Gi-Oh GX as it's only running thing doesn't mean it's completely bad.
-
Well thats pretty funny that a TV grouping with only one "running thing" which I think is trash myself, wouldn't be bad.
But its mostly just how wussified it is compared to ye olde Toonami, its a perfect show of how uptight Americas gotten about what kids see within only 5 years.
Instead of wierd techno/industrial music and Tom, we now have cartoony aliens and a little girl? The hell?
And the show comparison.Totally Spies =/= Batman:The Animated Series
Code Lyoko =/= Various Gundams
etc.Anyway, One Piece uncut would be a nice fit in late Toonami, but this is the dub here, so Miguzi does fit it.
-
Amen to that
By the way, does anyone happen to know know the TV ratings for the Miguzi block?
Well… One Piece starts on Miguzi next week. It does get good 6-11 ratings on Toonami though (though it's 9-14 are higher) so I expect it to do well on Miguzi.
Maybe eventually when Naruto and Bo BoBo get enough episodes for a weekday slot, CN will make a Shonen Jump hour or something...
I don't think Miguzi is garbage. It's not as cool as Toonami, but then.... It's not trying to be.
-
I don't think Miguzi is garbage. It's not as cool as Toonami, but then…. It's not trying to be.
I can agree to that. The original Moltar Toonami was simmilar to modern Adult Swim, minus all the fudge-up shows on the network (Sealab, ATHF,Tom, ect). I personally hate dumbarse humour, and I would rather enjoy seeing an expansion on AS Action or AS Anime.
-
For me, Miguzi lost it's purpose when they removed TMNT.
-
I have one question:
What the crap is Miguzi? a channel? -
Miguzi is a segment on Cartoon Network from 5-7 PM. It's kinda like an underwater version of toonami. Without the spaceship. and no robots. and no TOM. Actually, it's nothing like toonami.
-
Ewww….
Miguzi..... the bastard child of the late Toonami...
I remember when...My sentiments exactly. When I think of Miguzi, I think of Totally Spies, Code Lyoko, and the slow, painful death of the greatness that was Megas XLR.
-
argg… why show Megas XLR there? what were they thinking?
-
@yokaiforte:
argg… why show Megas XLR there? what were they thinking?
MEGAS should really have been shown on AS, but it's written at a Toonami-ish level. The move was symbolic; the 18-25 demographic no longer watches Toonami as seriously as it did in 1999, and the show wasn't getting good ratings. By putting it on Miguzi for a couple weeks, CN basically said "yeah, this show's gonna get cancelled soon".
Removing TMNT was an idiot's decision, in my views. Code Lyoko is good and all, but in comparison to TMNT, why bother?
-
I think it would be a good fit to put One Piece on Miguzi. More exposure, and a very episodic series like OP needs a daily broadcast to keep the audience, who is not use to it, interested.
-
well…Today is the day of One Piece in Miguzi.....They gonna give the 1st ep....I always want to get some good laugh from this dub.
-
The dub was kind of better in the earlier episodes. It started to get out of hand around the Baratie arc.
-
@Senshi:

I'm gonna have to agree with you there. When I first saw the dub I thought was somewhat OK, (Looking beyond stuff that I knew was gonna happen like the music changes, and the basis that there was gonna be an uncut release and the fact that they were staying pretty accurate to the manga) then Sanji was introduced…
Actually, when you think about it, the real butchering of the show came as soon as they got past the point where the [North American] Shonen Jump magazine was at the time…..
-

Same here. The dub was fairly alright during the intro, Buggy, and Kuro episodes. Then somewhere between Sanji's first appearence and Nami's backstory, it all went to hell.

I originally considered the music change to be benign; sure, the Japanese symphonic score was better, but at least the music had high quality, no? Then someone pointed out the irreverence of 4Kids by changing the dramatic tension of scenes by patterning different synthetic scores; Luffy's first interaction with Koby was the first touching moment in the series, especially when Koby's hope/dreams/prayers/future get smashed (in the form of his rag tag boat) by the object of all his hatred, Alvida. Though the score was good, as well as difficult to compose (even for a synthetic score), it was, like many of the voices, inappropriate.
I am hindered in ways of comparison because of my router, which denies me the ability to download anything from K-F or Gerusama outside of a direct download, but from what I have seen, 4Kids biggest folly in the dub was the derivation of an "Action/Adventure" show from one that boasted "Action/Adventure/Drama".
Surprisingly, though the most offensive of changes are very memorable and easily mocked (due to utter unlikelyhood and quality), now that I think of things, people are not giving 4Kids much credit. The most annoying and prevailent changes are:
1. Helemppo's Gun.
2. Sanji's Lolly (good change, I think).
3. Krieg's Suction Cups.
4. Belemere's Death.
5. Water Pistols/Rifles.Everything else is a change attributed through dialogue or music. If there's a digital edit, it's likely so minor, why are people giving it attention aside from its nature of being an edit?
I am still against the dub, but I bring up these points because Narutards, who were privelaged to have a good dub, complain to no end about the changes. I recently visisted an absolutely huge forum for Naruto, NarutoFan (which is nearly sixteen times the size of AP), and I noticed that most of the people who didn't associate with OP or the OP dub made the loudest complaints, as well as numerous topics, regarding how much the hated the ShoPro rendition.
That's not to say criticisms are nonexistant; they have a "Dub Complaint" thread, though it is somewhere along the lines of one two hundreth the size of the "4Kids Discussion Thread" in terms of views.
To conclude this rather confusing post, it appears hard to please Americans. Naruto recieved virtually no edits and is still widely hated; 4Kids took a more drastic step and is therefore universally panned. Everything's relative in the West.
-

It was the Kuro arc for me. I actually used to record the episodes and watch them for fun because I hadn't seen the original or could work BT. But it was the first episode of the Kuro arc that made me stop doing that because it literally made me nauseated (well, I watch movies during weekdays to relieve stress but it seemed to make it worse). XD I didn't even believe that that was Usopp when I first saw it, but then they showed his face and it was like …. >__>
amazed by taboo's avatar
Thanks~ xD I did actually get the background from a hypnosis website.
-
Well see…
It's completely justified to complain about One Piece's dub since it's bad.
But to complain about Naruto's, in my opinion, is just ungreatful.
-
I really wish this wasn't true, but the Naruto dub totally pwns the One Piece dub. That's pretty sad coming from a hardcore OP fan such as myself.
When I saw the commercial ad for the OP dub on Miguzi, I wasn't very surpirsed. The OP dub is slowly dying. Once 4Kids gives it the boot, it will be up to either Viz or FUNimation to heal the wounds inflicted upon the OP fans.
-
The first I saw of One Piece was the dub. I didn't notice any changes, except for the crappy rap intro. I was forced to watch it untill I discovered K-F and finally got ahead of the dubbed Arlong arc. I thought the dub went downhill after Arlong. All of Lougetown and Whiskey Peak were merged, and Little Garden was skipped.
But, the "saving grace" was Drum Island. We finally get non-merged episodes, and Chopper's past is almost untouched. If it turns out that 4Kids isn't simply catering for Chopper and his arc just to get kids to like him, then I can assume that Alabasta won't be as bad as we all think.
-

Well I wouldn't say it's "dying"…
It's actually getting stronger, now that it has a weekday slot and merchandice is coming out.
And it's been doing good on Toonami.
-
But what will happen when Toonami reaches the end of the Drum Island arc?
-

.
i know how that is as well one was arguing with me that the only reason people say he looks stupid wearing his headband to school is because of the english naruto:wacko:
-
If 4Kids screws up Alabasta, the dub will be lost. Seriously; Skypiea killed a number of OP fans because of its length. It's interesting, and good, truely; but it's long. If the Japanese couldn't take that much of an arc, what's to say about Americans, whom are conditioned from the first moment they watch television to a fifteen minute attention span, especially over an extended story with no major drastic changes? The Zabuza arc in Naruto is what I cite as a "mini-Skypiea" in terms of length; each episode has something new happen, but the arc seems to drag on for ever in the Anime. Surprise? It's only twenty something episodes long!
To further my argument, the Davy Black Fight is entertaining, but it's kinda filler-ish. Water Seven would be a good arc for OP, but it's still going in Japan, and I wouldn't be surprised at 4Kids catching up to the DBF (if they maintain last year's pace and footage cuts) before Japan finishes the arc.
It's either Alabasta or bust; 4Kids could have ditched the dub at this point and salvaged the franchise, but they have chose to tough it out. Cross yer fingers, lads; rough seas are ahead for us all.
-
@Usopp:
But what will happen when Toonami reaches the end of the Drum Island arc?
Well the dubs already been said that it will start up again after the holidays on 4Kidstv, so I soppose Toonami will just hold off on showing new episodes until 4Kidstv starts with new ones.
Or…
It's entirely possible that Toonami will premere some episodes before 4Kidstv does, since it has happened with TMNT.
I know that the last new episode we've had "Doc Rock" will air on Toonami February 4th. Unfortiantly, the schedual I got it from doesn't go any further than February 4th, so I don't know if Toonami will have premere's or not.
-
It was the Kuro arc for me.
Yeah, same here, same reasons. XD But we've all been through that.
Thanks~ xD I did actually get the background from a hypnosis website.
Wonders what subliminal messages she's invoking with her avatar Suddenly feels an urge to send Taboo large amounts of cash

4. Completely ass-raping the Usopp/Chu fight beyond recognition
5. Taking out the entire ending of Arlong Park and basically going from Arlong's defeat to back on the ship
6. The entire episode "Fantastic Voyage" complete with using stock footage to create new scenes to cover up the information lost by cutting Laboon and Crocus. -

6. The entire episode "Fantastic Voyage" complete with using stock footage to create new scenes to cover up the information lost by cutting Laboon and Crocus.I was trying to list the actual "edited" footage, not the cuts, though I suppose the rewritten Laboon-Iceburg issue was both. Aside from the Warship Arc, all of the cuts were backed up by dialogue changes, the rubber knife incident included. What 4Kids cuts, though offensive to us, doesn't affect the average non-Internet savvy television watcher as profoundly; if such a viewer does not know what he/she is missing, there's no reason to worry. It's the obvious edits, like Helemppo's gun, the lollipop, colour changes on weaponry, and the hideous dialogue that is noticeable.
…I am sorry to say, though, that I missed the episode with the Usopp v. Chuu battle, but I would not be surprised at how badly it must have been done. 4Kids redued OP genres from "Action/Adventure/Drama/Comedy" to "Action/Adventure/Comedy with some dramatic elements", and that fight was quite a turning point for Usopp. I take it that much more than Usopp's "blood" was erased?
-
I remember seeing an ad for the toonami thing. Was it cancelled off toonami?
-

Man, the Narutard subbies who do nothing but complain every about every single minute of a dub episode really piss me off. Especially since it would'nt be a mistake to call the TV dub of Naruto "almost uncut". And I honestly believe that they have no right to bitch as much as they do, especially when Viz annouced fully uncut, billingual releases of Naruto in 13-episode box sets for sometime this summer (July or August). As RomanGod said, simply "ungrateful".
Still, it seems that for every one person who does nothing but complain about Naruto, they'res always about 15 others who not only like the dub, but think it's handled very well and tell the Narutards to shut up.
Anyways, Naruto rant aside…..
It's actually getting stronger, now that it has a weekday slot and merchandice is coming out.
I really havent seen any other merchandise being promoted for One Piece other than the PS2/GC games or the grapic novels (if you count those). Whereas Naruto dosen't seem to have a problem with getting his own section in Hot Topics everywhere (and early at that).
Now the One Piece DVDs are coming out sometime in February. English/4kids version only, Three episodes, $20…..:glare:....really...

Well, let's see. The orignal fight is over 8 minutes long, I think, 4kids cut it down to 2. The entire scene from the beginning where he's playing dead, including the whole inner dialogue he has with himself that eventually led to his decision to stand up and fight Chuu, was completely cut, so that basically he went from running away to turning around saying "Lolz ok I'm gonna be brave and fight now wee!" (not exact quote  ). Then, while in the original version, when he's hiding in the trees and thinking to himself "I'm a pirate now, I left all the comforts of home behind, etc." They changed the dialogue so that he just says "let's see, I did the fizzy soda gag, what else?" (because they can't have alcohol, you know…and soda is flammable, right?), and while they did keep Chuu being set on fire, they ended it there, completely removing the "Usopp Hamma! Usopp Hamma!" scene(which I can't understand, since you don't actually see him hitting Chuu, and it's the funniest part) and everything after it.
The worst part of it IMO is removing all the character development prior to the fight, about overcoming his fear and not wanting to let Nami down, and be able to feel worthy to be in the crew, that was a crime to cut.

Cheese and crackers, that's funny. XD
…
In a pathetic way, of course. Yeuck.
-
Cheese and crackers, that's funny. XD.
That sounds like something dub Luffy would say
BTW, I should clarify, Usopp does hit Chuu with the hammer, but just the one time. What they cut was Chuu getting back up again and the multiple impacts. Why, I'll never understand. It's damn hilarious.
-
They proboally cut it so they can cram in more of Luffy v.s Arlong.
-
I looked ahead to January 19th (which is my BIRTHDAY) and I saw no One Piece in the Miguzi line-up? What the crap! Are they gonna air it only for 2 weeks like they did in September!? They'll NEVER get past the Usopp arc! That pisses me off. I see Totally Spies gag at that show at 4:30 instead.
-

Excuse the French but what the fuck does Cartoon Network see in that show? God, CN must hate One Piece.
-
Cartoon Network hates a lot of good shows which is why shows like Megas XLR & Samurai Jack were never renewed for more seasons.
-
Uh… Yeah guys... That link that leads to "that" schedual page is all messed up.
http://schedule.cartoonnetwork.com/xmlServices/ScheduleServices?methodName=mainSchedule&date=2006,01,12,14,00
(copy and paste)Take a good look at the rest of the scedual. Toonami airing on a Tuesday? WTF?
Plus it still says that Miguzi is 5:00pm to 7:00pm, when it is now 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
Don't go on the link on the Miguzi page that says "Check out the schedual" since it's outta wack. Just go directly to CartoonNetwork.com and click " TV schedual" directly on the top left corner of the page. That one will tell you the right schedual.
-
TUESDAY?! TUESDAY?! WTF?! If its on on tuesday it should be on every day. Get rid of this miguzi crap
-
TUESDAY?! TUESDAY?! WTF?! If its on on tuesday it should be on every day. Get rid of this miguzi crap
Exactly. Toonami is not on a "Tuesday", it's on "Saturdays"… Which is why the link to the scehdual page on Miguzi's site is messed up.
Don't listen to it.

@Turner:
