Any way to get the earlier raws?

Check Mininova. There is a massive, but generally low-speed torrent (only one seeder) that has episodes 1-242 plus all the movies and specials raw. You'll need a BitComet to download it, most likely, as its default size is around 80 gigs and you probably don't want raws for the whole series anyway (unless you, like me, are totally insane).

How's the quality for those raws, anyway? Are they avi or rm?

Most of them are high quality .avi's.
Some of them are a bit too bright, but most of them are great. I believe they are DVD rips, but I'm not to sure if that's just the label or really true <_<
And the latter ones are HDTV and such.

AVIs. They're all labelled as DVD rips, but some of them seem a bit low in quality for that. Still, they're quite good overall. I haven't watched ALL of them yet (and honestly, admit that I probably won't), but the ones I have checked out have all been nice.
