I prefer Alabasta. I think it just had an overall better story. Plus Crocodile is awesome.

i totally agree with you
and the idea of Baroque Work is just great!
Oda is a master :) -
I like alabasta too! I agree with you! I don't like skypiea cause it's stupid idea:/
-
I like more Skypea because, it's better enviroment there…
-
ALABASTA!!!!!!
(I´m a Chaka, Peruh, Cors and Kobra Fan :P ) -
Argh! This one is too tough….Alabasta is awesome, but Skypiea redefines ''epic''...
In terms of story, Skypiea easily takes the cake. However, Alabasta had more emotion, so I'll vote for that.
-
I haven't seen Spypiea animated yet, only manga. I preferred Arabasta over Spypiea just a bit. I have a feeling I may actually like Spypiea better animated, because such an imaginative environment just begs for full moving color.
-
I loved the Skypiea arc, it was just so… different, and epic. Another thing I thought was cool was how the how concept was based on the Gulliverian sailor myths of cities of gold, etc. Plus it has awesome guys like Gedatsu and Wiper... and the Norland story was incredibly badass.
Alabasta was a great arc, too, everyone in the crew achieved something, but I just got sick of it after a while.
-
I also prefer Skypiea, even though Alabasta had Crocodile.
-
I voted Skypiea because…. um, I really don't know why. I think it was that story between Norland and the other guy that made me do it.
-
I prefer Alabasta. While Skypiea has a great setting, some interesting characters, and some interesting fights, there were parts I literally fell asleep during. It just seemed to drag on to me. Granted, I've only seen Skypiea in anime form, so that may be why. I really need to read it, it might have a better pace in the manga.
However, that aside, Alabasta, as people mentioned earlier, has a lot more emotion to it, which is another reason why I prefer it. Not to mention the story really kept me hanging on.
And just one other more trivial reason - I ADORE the Alabasta costumes. To death ^_^
-
Alabasta started to put me to sleep toward the end… especially with Vivi and all of her stupid whining.
-
I was more emotionally attached to Vivi, and cared more about what happened to her, than I was to ANY of the characters introduced in Skypiea. And I'm not even a huge Vivi fan.
-
I LOVE Arabasta. Reasons:
- Like Ginny, I didn't feel attached to any Skypiea characters at all. In fact, I think fans are the same, one of the proof is that no Skypiea character got their own character song. Bon Clay has it, the Arabasta animals have their share in a Vivi song, but no song is specifically Skypiea, which may mean that the demand for it isn't high.
- Kohza is hawt
- Mr. Prince
- Marines
- Shishi Sonson
- Water Luffy (which I think is >Gomugomu no Bo)
- Climatact
- Kungfu Dugong
- Glory
- Okama Way
- Crocodile's voice is sexy
Things I like from Skypiea, to compare:
- Nami's hairstyle
- the scene where Luffy, Sanji and Usopp got blasted by one of Satori's orbs
- Sanji's "I was going to ask for a light…" scene T_T
- er, that's about all...
However, W7 is on the verge of topping Arabasta as my favorite arc. We'll see when it ends.
-
I prefer Skypiea, but it does drag on in parts.
-
It was kinda hard to choose between the two of them, but I think I have to go with Skypeia.
-
Alabasta is my favorite of all arcs, Skypiea just suck… sorry.
-
Even thought Skypiea is better written (Oda's art and story telling skill did improved) and I love the first three books of it, the enviroment and the melodramatic ending turned me off. And while Ener is Oda's best villain yet he didn't got such a grip of me as Croc did. But I loved how Skypiea was an actual treasure adventure ala real pirate stories, the figths were short and fun, often only one chapter, humour worked (Luffy and pals debating who's the weakest still cracks me) and it has one my favourite acts of One Piece: Straw Hats camping. Alabasta's advantage is the characters (Smoker, Tashigi, Bon Clay…) and overall impact to the story. The thing dissapointed me the most in Skypiea was Aisa didn't join, she should have :P, and it's little or none interaction with other stories. Well, Water 7 could surpass the both arcs.
-
i like alabasta cause crocodile was awesome and the barouque works idea was just great but most importantly every member fought and learn a new thing
-
Storywise I like both arc´s though Skypia is a little bit in advantage because of the Noland/Kargara history.
Evironmentalwise I have to say that Alabasta is better because it´s constantly one evirnment(though I´m actually not the desert lover). In Skypia the only environment that kicks ass is the Upper Yard, but it takes a little bit time until we get there.
Villian wise Sir Crocodile is far better then Enel. Sir Crocodile is aiming for world domination while Enel is like a little child that did get bored of his toy and is looking for a new place where he can fit in.
All in all both arc´s are awesome (I mean it´s One Piece) but personally I just feel a special love to the Alabasta arc. That´s why I voted for it. :D
Take care

Water Seven is turning into the third major arc.
I'm going with Alabasta, there's just no way Skypeia can beat it. I mean, the tension building up for it went through THREE arcs before it happened, it was just set up to be the ultimate epic.
-
I prefer Alabasta but Skypiea rulez too :)
-
Skypiea always felt a little weird to me. O_o; Sort of like a little inside joke that went on for too long (even though it was good, I'm not disputing that at all). Alabasta's my pick, for aforementioned reasons, though Water Seven is definitely creeping up there as well.
-
I'm already thinking Water 7 will be my favorite. ^_^
-
It's a tossup to me; Skypiea was more entertaining from a storyline perspective as I really loved the buildup in Jaya with Bellamy, Cricket, and Teach, the Norland-Calgara flashback, and the ending with the bell.
On the other hand, Alabasta had better battle scenes and Crocodile was a much more menacing character to me as I pretty much figured from the minute I found out Ener had electrical powers that Luffy would be immune to him. No such luck with Crocodile.
So; if it's a question about writing, then Skypiea. If action, then Alabasta.
-
Eneru was one powerful shit, BUT so is Crocodile… ummmm... I'll go for SkyPiea Arc cuz Luffy came up with a whole lotta tricks when fighting Eneru.... Eneru could predict all of Crocodile's movements, pour water on Crocodile then zap him ta' death..Yea-ha-ha-ha-ha
-
Really tough decision but I'll have to go with Alabasta.
Skypia was awesome as hell but Alabasta wins purely on nostalgia value. Both arcs are pretty old but Alabasta is the major arc that cemented my love for One Piece. Skypia is truthfully just as great an adventure and with an equally interesting and sadistic boss, but being forced to choose one I just went for the older arc.
-
Crocodile is less insane than Enel, and it was cool how he (sort of) actually had an intelligent plan… but Enel's so much more powerful, and the whole Deathpiea attack on Skypiea was much more badass than any attacks Crocodile used. Can't wait for his return to the series.
Also, some of Baroque Works and definitely Vivi pissed me off really badly, and I liked characters like Gan Fall and Wiper.

…and after six years, this thread returns. There are posts in this thread about how much potential Water 7 has! lol, classic. Voted Skypiea, as I have always loved it as a pure adventure but both are great for their own reasons.
-
Although I gotta say Alabasta was better than Skypiea in the anime.
-
Alabasta for me , crocodile and the BW were what drove me into One piece.
-
although crocodile is my favourite villain, I coud see jaya+skypiea over and over again eternally.
-
I love both, but Skypiea is my favourite of the two for it's adventuring.
