Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet. Although I think they're mistaking the word "remaster" with "remake" lol. Crash's spin and interactions could use a little more pizzaz, but it's still early in development I presume. I can't believe we're getting a whole remade trilogy.
If only this came out around the time of development for PlayStation All-Stars. Then Crash might have actually been playable there.

Maybe there's still a chance for a sequel?

Maybe there's still a chance for a sequel?
PlayStation All-Stars 2?Ehhhhhhhhhhhh… I was actually a prominent user back on the official PlayStation All-Stars forum (I had the highest amount of forum comment likes for several months in fact!), so I kept up to date with a lot of news regarding the developers, Sony's role, and how the DLC stopped (the last batch of character/costume DLC only came out because of a fan movements and petitioning by the way). In fact, leaked concept art shows that DLC was planned to include a Gravity Rush stage, Abe from Oddworld, and Dart from Legend of Dragoon to alleviate all of the complaints about no JRPG representation before they got stingy and ceased all development. A sequel is pretty unlikely because Sony let go of the team made specifically for All-Stars (SuperBot Entertainment) because the game didn't perform as financially and critically successful as they hoped (especially due to all of the irrational hate the game got from Smash Bros. fanboys who thought Sony was ripping off Nintendo even though crossover party fighters is a genre. Like, seriously, why would you complain about have MORE Smash Bros-esque games? And All-Stars had very different and cool gameplay mechanics in its own right).
So... It's really uncertain. There's a slight chance it might happen, but it's unlikely. The third-parties who lent characters for the original game forced the developers to include characters that would advertise their future games than the ones fans wanted (such as reboot Dante instead of classic Dante, Isaac Clarke from Dead Space for some reason, Raiden instead of Snake to advertise Metal Gear Revengeance). And companies like Square Enix were especially stubborn about not lending Cloud or Lara Croft, and the same goes for Activision with Crash and Spyro at the time. Yet Square Enix was more than happy to give Cloud to Super Smash Bros.
Story short, the whole thing was a mess and I don't think Sony will see a sequel being worth it, but here's hoping.

I can't see Activision making a good Crash Bandicoot to be honest.
-
This is a remake not a remaster.
I can't see Activision making a good Crash Bandicoot to be honest.
Well they're not developing it of course so you're right.
-
While this is not a new game, I liked the fluidity of everything, now everything is clearer and I bet the songs will have a remastering.
-
Here's a gameplay video.
-
First, I liked the fact that they gave you another chance in cause you failed the bonus, second, I liked the silly animation they made during the "box counting" moment and thirdly (and this hurts me a lot to ask) how much can nostalgia sale ?
-
The gang's finally back together.
-
Something about that gameplay feels….slow and not very weight-y to me, like Crash is barely around doin' stuff.

I felt that way about the trailer, but the actual gameplay footage from people playing the demo looks more authentic. And I've been reading reports of players who say that the physics are extremely reminiscent of how refined they were in Crash 2 and 3, and the level design is 1:1 with the original games. So Vicarious Visions did their homework. The gameplay in the trailer might be from an earlier build.

Hmm…taking a second look....it seems sharper, but I'm not a fan of the new spinning animation, it's not as...."in your face"?

I get what you mean. Like I said in my first comment, I think it could use more pizzaz similar to Taz. But I can make due lol.

Felt like this. The trailer felt iffy to me, but that gameplay video sold me on it immediately.
Also, shame Ripper Roo and Tiny Tiger are missing from the picture, as is Dingodile. Everyone else looks pretty amazing. Now I'm wanting them to do a Crash Team Racing as well…

I noticed they were missing too, but I'm glad that we still have some surprises to look forward to. In fact, now that Tawna is acknowledged, I have to wonder if they're actually going to keep the story background of her leaving Crash for Pinstripe. I also liked how they aninated her fighting back against the doctors in the intro cutscene.

What??? That happened? =O
I thought she just disappeared for no reason with the introduction of Coco as smart sister figure.

Can we get an HD remaster of the original Spyro trilogy? Activision owns both now apparently. In my opinion, Spyro is the far superior franchise. I've never understood why Crash always seems to get so much more nostalgia hype nowadays. Maybe people got soured on Spyro after the many failed sequels and reboots released after the original three? Spyro the Dragon, Ripto's Rage, and Year of the Dragon all rank in my top 20 favorite games, and I would love to see them given the same treatment as Crash.
EDIT: Just realized this makes it seem kinda like I'm shitting on Crash, but I'm not. I loved those games back in the day, and Warped was one of my favorites on the console. But either way, I'd still take any of the three Spyro games over any of the Crash games.
-
Wait a min - I know it's not finished yet, but I was hoping for some Crash 2 and 3 nods if they're calling it a trilogy
-
They're both equivalent to me in terms of PSOne nostalgia factor. I wouldn't be surprised if Spyro got similar treatment, though I imagine their interest in using Crash came from him not having encountered success elsewhere, while Spyro was actually a successful figure in Skylanders.
Though with that probably dying soon, assuming this one goes well I'd imagine Spyro being the next logical candidate for Activision to remaster.

Yes lol. They mentioned this both on an official website and in the manga adaptation of Crash 2. But since that happens off-screen, I suppose they can just ignore that. She was removed in the first place due to Universal not finding her voluptuous design to be family friendly.
Speaking of Coco, I notice that she isn't in the cast shot I posted. I wonder how she'll look with more detailed fur similar to Crash.
-
I was a Crash kid through and through, being perhaps literally my most played series on the PS1. 2, 3, Team Racing, and Bash gave me tons of fond memories. I distinctly remember stepping in my console (don't ask), right in the middle of an Arabian level.
200 dollars later we upgraded to the PS2.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
This would've accompanied the first game, but IIRC Universal didn't want it released, believing a 2D cartoon would undermine the 3D angle the game was supposed to have.

Oh yea! Where's Coco?? And then other important questions are: what will Pura and Polar look like? And… will there be a Fake Crash?
Also, really really hope they only make adjustments on dumb things like saving and bonuses (they did!) in crash 1, but that they don't do things to make the games easier. Like some of the gems being outright obscure and unintuitive.
-

I almost forgot that Skylanders was successful considering everyone I know hates it and rarely talks about it unless to shit-talk it. And that's not me being rude to you, I understand me and my friends are probably in the minority. I legitimately forgot that it's ACTUALLY very financially successful. Honestly, I don't understand why Spyro's name is still attached to that franchise. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it barely has anything to do with him anymore I'm pretty sure.

You're right about Skylanders not having anything to do with Spyro anymore. Which gives a bit more hope towards being willing to experiment with more Spyro platformers.
And I wager that Crash not getting a new platformer until now is due to the declining market interest in platformers from both casual audiences and publishers than the Crash franchise dying. So if the N. Sanity Trilogy is successful enough, which would thus indicate that the market is interested in platformers again (and they're seriously on the rise nowadays with Ratchet & Clank PS4, Oddworld New n' Tasty, Sonic Mania, etc.), Spyro might get the same treatment. Lots of people have been clamoring for more traditional Spyro even if it isn't exactly as much as Crash, and I'm sure Activision has noticed this. And afterwards, we might actually get new installments and maybe, JUST MAYBE, another Crash and Spyro reboot. But let's not count our chickens before they hatch lol.
-
Personally, I think this looks amazing! There is no way I'm not going to get this when it comes out!:wub:I love Crash, I had every game, even the disappointing reboots. Btw, I'm kinda interested, I know everybody loves the original trilogy and Crash Team Racing and hates the newer ones, but what are your thoughts about stuff like The Wrath of Cortex, Twinsanity, and Crash Tag Team Racing? I remember really enjoying the humor especially in the latter two games, even though Twinsanity in particular was quite different from its predecessors.
-
Looks like a solid remake. I never played much of the originals so I'll probably get this.
-
I really enjoyed Twinsanity to be honest. The music was outstanding.
-
My only problem with Twinsanity is my copy of the game was screwed up so I couldn't finish it
-
I loved Twinsanity. I definitely wouldn't mind similar writing to that if new Crash games are made in the style of the N. Sanity Trilogy are made. But Twinsanity is infamous for being a VERY unfinished game.
-
they should do the a capella soundtrack again
that was the actual best part of twinsanity -
Oh, that a capella soundtrack was indeed gorgeous. It fitted the kookiness of Crash Bandicoot perfectly.
-
My only problem with Twinsanity is my copy of the game was screwed up so I couldn't finish it
That happened with mine, too! I loved every minute of it, but I was never able to finish the game :getlost:
-
Tag Team Racing was insanely fun and I loved just screwing around in the overworld, but I wished it was a little harder, plus the characters kinda felt like parodies of themselves (Mr. T Crunch, bleck)
Also Lex Lang continued to shine as Cortex.
-

For the most part I agree, especially in regards to the secrets of Crash 2. But that games Blue Gem was bullshit.
Overall, as someone who doesn't own a PS4 yet, this all looks very appealing and nostalgic, but I think I want some new content- extra levels, challenges or bosses, and what have you- before I'm fully aboard.
Now if Ape Escape got the same treatment…
-
It'd be cool if they took the time trial feature from Crash 3 and added it to the first two games.
-

I prefer to just play the originals, generally. Which Spyro games were good besides the first one?
-
2 and 3 were fun too, even if they eventually diluted the platforming in favor of gimmicks… which is standard operating procedure for Sony Mascot Platformers it seems (see also: Crash, Jak, Ratchet, Sly)
-
It'd be cool if they took the time trial feature from Crash 3 and added it to the first two games.
They confirmed that they're doing this. Also, the bonus rounds in the first game don't go away after you fail them once. You can retry them in the level as much as you want. Vicarious Visions is paying attention to the improvements made throughout the three games and making them well-rounded and less dated.
-
I wonder if that means they're doing the "skull routes" for crash 1, instead of the old system. I can see why you'd do it, even if I liked the challenge of trying to perfect a late-game temple level with 100% crates…in an angry, masochistic way.
For Crash 2, I hope they revamp the Komodo Bros and Cortex fights to make them actually fun.
-
I'm super hyped for this. I'm a bit sad TBH that they picked Lex Lang to come back as Cortex… I know he's the "Current" Voice of the character, but he picked up the role during the PS2 era.... 2 of the 3 games in this Trilogy Collection featured Clancy Brown, Lex freaking Luthor himself as Cortex.... I would have LOVED him to come back for nostalgia's sake.
Oh well tho, Maurice LeMarche as N. Brio is freaking gold.
The only thing I'm worried about is... from the videos I've seen, the graphics look solid and it does seem they're recreating the levels faithfully... but the physics is what I'm worried about. I REALLY Hope the physics feel right. It has to feel like original Crash. This is the ONE area they could screw this up.
TBH, I also wouldn't mind if they balanced out the difficulty in Crash 1 a little bit and made it feel less unfair at times, but I'd want that to be a selectable option. Like, if I want to experience original punishing Crash 1, let me pick that, but if I want to play a version more balanced like 2 and 3, it'd be a neat new option.
If the choice is one OR the other tho, totally be faithful to the original. -
Why would anyone want to play the original crash 1 when a more playable version is available? I mean, the level difficulty seems untouched, major change being not having to go stupid lengths just to save the game. To me it doesn't seem like a challenge worth recreating, and it can be easily emulated by attempting no-death jewel runs.
-
From what I've seen, absolutely none of the original team at Naughty Dog is involved.
Crash 1 to me feels a lot like Mega Man 1 in that, it's punishingly hard but not in that way where it just feels like a challenge… it does feel unfair hard at times. I mean in that, it feels like when you make a mistake, it's not entirely your fault, it's because the design isn't QUITE as tight as it COULD Be.
in both cases, the second game in the series (Crash 2, MM2) they prefected the level design and the physics.
Fixing Crash 1 I think would require just a slight tightening up of the phyiscs and/or a slight modification of the level design.... My problem tho comes back to them not having any of the original staff involved.
It feels like a recipe for disaster to have them changing things lol.
I mean, I think Crash 1 has problems, but Crash 2 is great and Crash 3 is Amazing. Crash 3 actually breaks into my top 10 games of all time list. I REALLY love that game, it's super tight and just the right level of challenge.
I worry basically about a team that isn't in any way tied to the original devs going in and tweaking physics and level designs. It's a platformer, so how Crash handles is a big deal, and I don't want them to set precedent for going in and "Fixing" it since that might lead to them thinking they need to "Fix" Crash 2 and 3.
Which is why a tightening of the physics and the like for Crash 1 would be nice... but only if they pulled it off... if they broke it, or worse, got emboldened to go "lets fix other stuff in the other 2 games!" then I'd hate it.
So if we got anything like that, I'd like it to be an option rather than the primary mode.... or maybe I'd get lucky and they'll know to fix Crash 1 and leave the other two the hell alone?
-

But the current generation need to suffer exactly like I did! If not, everything I went through had no meaning!!
Nah, you're right of course. The save feature should absolutely be changed, and as long as the option of more challenging runs remain (whether self-imposed or official), its fine.
One other thing I'd update in Crash 1: More death animations. Make it up to par with the latter games. Oh, and have it acknowledge Cocos existence, to make her appearence in 2 less jarring.
I wouldn't change much in 2 apart from the bosses and the blue gem, but 3 is a tougher one because my main gripe with that game was always the reduced focus on classic platforming in favor of gimmicks. Only actual new content can alleviate that. But I guess some updates to the Cortex/Uka Uka rematch would be nice, instead of just copy-pasting the first battle.
-
I would definitely like to see more fleshed out boss intros. At least for Crash 1.
-
Demon Rin pretty much covered everything I wanted to say about this (though I like 2 more than 3, but both are awesome).
-
The real question is… when's Crash Bash? :ninja:
-

I personally was fine with most gimmicks of 3. Pura and the jet ski were fun. The bike not so much.
I also liked the level design of 3 much more, with each themed level adding something new from the previous one. 2 was great, but many levels felt like repeats, which makes me understand why they tried to shake it up a bit for the sequel. It helped that Crash got new moves after bosses.

What we truly need is… Crash Team Racing Remake
