Looks good, was looking forward to this ever since the first 30 second teaser came up and that was like almost a year ago lol.
Love Crichton's film and I think Ed Harris will make an excellent villain.
-
This plus the porn series by David Simon are one of the few series that I'm looking forward to. Perhaps the Twin Peaks continuation aswell.
-
looks phenomena. hopefully it's not one of those taht looks good and ends up being shit. But man can HBO get anymore awesome tv shows? They seem to have all of them. They are the powerhouse of tv really.

The last good HBO series (not counting mini series ) was Treme and True Detective S1. I've yet to watch Silicon Valley.

true. sillicon valley is great.
Also, I'm surprised nobody has made a fargo thread. It's the best new tv show.

I'm waiting for Fargo to end to be honest. From 2015, I loved the finale of Mad Men, slightly disappointed with the finale of Boardwalk Empire (series had so much potential but Post S3 disappointed me), Mr Robot (best new show of 2015) and Narcos.
I'll watch Silicon Valley some time soon.

Boardwalk Empire (series had so much potential but Post S3 disappointed me)
That's what a couple of unnecessary deaths in season 4, an unexpected cancellation leading to a compressed 5th and final season which jumped the story ahead 8 years and dropped a few plot lines and characters from the preceeding season gets you.

Telling us 'Hey btw, Arnold Rothstein is dead!' sucked major cojones. Jimmy needed more screen time, didn't like this character. Tony Blundetto, Ralphie, Phil Leotardo and Richie Aprile all had short screen time
! (Phil Leotardo being in S5/S6A/S6B, Ralphie in S3/S4,Richie only in S2 and Blundetto only appearing in S5 yet were far more interesting, fleshed out/developed/characterised characters. . At-least Knucky, Chalky White and Harold were still interesting characters. Gyp was also an entertaining antagonist.
Basically, The Sopranos is a masterpiece while Boardwalk Empire was interesting but needed consistent writing in it's later seasons.

SV is just something fun to watch you know and enjoy it. We should make a best new tv show list or most underrated tv shows right now.
Idk if im interested in mr robot. But westwrold might be the only decent sci fi tv show. Those things are really rare and the talent behind it is real, so i hope it's good.

http://www.arlongpark.net/showthread.php?t=44095maybe a best "new tv show" thread. Stuf people are kind of passing under the radar. I mean breaking bad nor game of thrones was that popular when they first came out during season 1.

Feel free to make a topic.
The Last Kingdom was also an excellent new series, aired last year. -
Did anyone watch yesterday's premier?
I was right and well intrigued by it. At the moment it seems hard to visualize a continuing series out of this but I'm sure as more episodes are aired it'll start to show plans for the future.
-
Great talent in front and behind the camera and a really great pilot episode. I am definitely hooked and am glad a sci fi show could possibly get a big breakthrough the way game of thrones did it for the fantasy genre.
-
Looking good so far. I only started watching this, because I regularly work on promos for this and got intrigued by the acting and the characters. Seriously, I think the did a damn good job moving like "machines" when for example they're ordered to stay still after a fit.
-
Finally some great television
I was very intrigued when I saw the trailer for the show. Now after seeing two episodes I'm really pissed off there haven't been more episodes aired.
The production of this theme park is really inspiring and almost infinitely mysteriously the vastness explained by newcomers and programmers and writers really is luring for the mind.
! What really intrigues me are a few things
! How scary is Dolores? Being the first host made, she certainly has layers upon layers of madness just ticking like a timebomb waiting to be unleashed on innocent people
What makes me so freaked out is how dangerous such an experienced android can be. I mean she must know the inner most workings of humans and has a genuine hate for mankind thanks to our friend the man in black
! Speaking of the man in black, his quest for the maze is so crazy it's just a ride really
! And then the brilliance of Ford the main programmer is so well written it's magic
! The ambitious writer who articulates what the fuck to the max is hilarious
! I wonder what management is up to.
! Could there be someone sabotaging the programming? Maybe Dolores? Who knows. And the music! woooow.
-
I just finished watching the third and latest episode and heck I like where it's going so far. Couple of things…
! 1) In the 3rd episode, is Dolores doing time jumps? Remember that scene where she holds a gun in her room and after some time it goes away (not sure if I got this right). Is it the same gun she uses to kill the guy? Also, we see her get shot once and then she somehow goes back few seconds in time again before getting shot and escapes. Is she jumping time or is this something else? That's either just a time jump or she has somehow attained precognition powers which would seem more like an evolutionary advantage against humans. Perhaps the precog abilities could be tapped out from the collective experiences of the other hosts too which would be pretty fucking insane if that happens I would say
! 2) Are they planning to bring religion into this? The shots of church domes being shown perhaps gives a hint about how they are planning to create some sort of a cult to start it off. This would be a crazed up hypothetical scene if they bring in religion - a human made concept which lacks theoretical logic into rule-bound robots who are having an ever increasing amount of emotional intelligence. -

! I think it's just supposed to be her remembering previous cycles. She remembered that guy was going to shoot her, so she rode off instead. The gun thing may have been her remembering that when she found it she hid it in her drawer, but on the current cycle it wasn't there anymore.

! I think that make sense for the first one. But for the 2nd one with the gun not being present, if she realized that the gun wasn't with her anymore, does it mean that someone had kept it in that room knowing that she would need it at some point in time when she gets attacked there? Or was it just to show implicitly that she has taken the gun and kept it there hence it was missing in her own room

Episode 4
! Seeing Antony Hopkins this episode gave me silence of the lamb vibes
! Here are few of my speculations
! 1) Ford is trying to create a new religion where he is the God and the hooded folks who clean up the bodies his angels. Looking at the repeated hints of a church being shown with demon and angel talks, I think this is going to happen. It's an ideological war between Arnold and Ford - one wants to control, one wants freedom. What better way to control than start a new religion
! 2) Something happened between Dolores, Maeve, Arnold and few more in the church which Ford is trying to resurrect. The memory has been deleted but apparently something horrific happened which is slowly coming back
! 3) And the most obvious one. Some of the bots are either going to get their complete memories back or the immunity protecting humans from being shot at is going to be removed or both by the end of the season -
This thread seems pretty dead but… anyone else think episode 6 was possibly the best episode so far? I'm pretty excited to see where this goes.

I stopped posting here coz nobody seemed interested lol
I liked this episode. I guess its pretty much clear now that either Arnold himself or an acquaintance has been consistently targeting the 1st world bots to help them reach another level of consciousness in some way. Even Ford seems pretty confused by the whole thing. I am still curious to see the importance of Wyatt in this whole game.
And finally, Maeve…!!
-
There seem to be two things going on at once: one is whatever Theresa is up to and the other is whatever "Arnold" is up to. I'm wondering which one of the two found Elsie and what will happen there (and seriously she was so stupid to go alone). I also definitely wonder what Maeve is going to concoct now, and what Ford is going to try to do about the whole thing.

I have a feeling that Arnold has literally uploaded his consciousness into the system before he died. Ford mentioned that he feels like a God in this world he created. What if Arnold became one! He died to become "immortal". If that becomes the case, the fight is going to be between the virtual Arnold and Ford with foot soldiers coming from both sides.
They showed 4-5 old generation bots which are used now. I believe all of those bots are going to team up to become some sort of a renegade pro-Arnold group.

Easily the best after a string of real great ones too.
Only real downside is that it's odd they're suddenly asking us to care about asshole writer guy after we hadn't seen him for like 4 episodes.

What made it interesting in that scene is when Teresa said that she is hoping Ford makes a mistake so that she swoops in to save the day by removing him out of the fold. Was this the reason she has been secretly sabotaging the bots? Did someone from the higher ups ask her to do it, someone who is related to Arnold or the man in black. Possibilities galore
-

It's certainly possible but I have a feeling it's a little more subtle than that.

There is a wild theory about multiple timelines doing round through reddit
! The man in black is William and two timelines with a gap of 30 years is being shown at the same time
-
So the idea would be that everything is in one timeline except the scenes with William? That honestly seems pretty much impossible to me.
-
When William and Logan arrive the Logo for the park is different than everything else we see (the logo in the title). But we DID see it again this past episode in the old computer Bernard logged into.
-
I still think there are tons of continuity issues? Like how they encounter hosts that should have rotated assignments or been decommissioned.
-
If there is only a linear timeline, it makes me wonder if certain characters are represented by more than one Host. Did the El Lazo storyline grind to a halt for every other paying guest while MiB dragged Lawrence around for 2 realttime days? Or do they let him have his fun and just toss in another Lawrence so other guests dont miss out on that story?
-
One other thing related to the two timeline theory was when William first came to the park, there was no Maeve in the whorehouse. She was always there as the head prostitute making a scene but she was nowhere around the bunch of times we see William in the whore house. Perhaps she was in another storyline before that and only recently got shifted to the whorehouse. I am seriously considering this theory now because of all these pretty coincidental oddities. I am even going to push it to an extent to say that Dolores wasn't raped by the MIB. All we see is him closing the door behind him and that's all.
And yes exactly. The Lawrence thing struck me too. The fact that William just met Lawrence and in the other scene the mib somehow treats Lawrence after he saved him from hanging like someone he knew kinda jumps out really when you look at it from the two timeline pov.
Even in many of the Williams's scene, we see many different hosts which are not there in the other scenes involving the same places. Also, judging by Nolan's involvement in the whole series, it very much could end up like a multi timeline of sorts.

Now THAT was a hell of a reveal.
Now we know why they wanted Hopkins in this. Damn that man can be scary.
-
Holy shit!
! Okay, episode 7 is like… fuck that was awesome. I'm shivering all over. It's been a long time since I've felt like this because of a tv show.
! Hopkins is godlike.
! I do wonder what's with Elsie.
! And I do wonder what will become of Maeve. Easily one of my favourite characters. Perhaps higher than Dolores or even the Man in Black. -
That was… well, I really wonder where the show will go now.
-
I knew at least some of them had to be one… and heard theories of this person specifically, but still was a nice twist.
Now it also makes sense how Ford could appear out of seemingly nowhere in that house corner last week. ;)
Theory:
!
! They don't show his name here, which means he could be Arnolds replica. Just like Ford will probably built a replica of Theresa in that basement.
! Also when Bernard was shown a picture of Arnold previously it was clearly the Bot of Fords father.
! -
! What… the hell. Now I have to think about who else are bots and not humans. He kept emphasizing that he built every darn thing so could it be that even the workers, programmers and what not are all actually bots too? Not very probable but now at least it makes you think twice about trusting whether someone is a bot or not
! So what does he achieve by killing her? Won't the board just be pissed off or is he trying to do an "Arnold" kind of an event and silence the whole thing?
! And I am still in for the ...! Multiple timeline theory. Check out the next episode preview and you will see the church refurbished and looking good. It was in a bad state the last time when Ford checked it out. We also get a load of the Man in black scenes which might might give a cleaner twist to this whole thing
! And I just thought of a bigger theory just now. Gonna run it through a bit but here's the gist…! Bernard is Arnold!
-
Both of you just mentioned the possibility concerning Arnold, but what I really wonder is, why was Arnold so mysterious that absolutely nobody remembers him? That seems pretty bizarre. Even if for some reason nobody currently alive ever met him, wouldn't there be some kind of record of him, given the scale of the operation the co-founded? This is regardless of whether he was ever actually a human to begin with… there'd at least be photos or something right? At least the Man in Black seems aware of him, and he said he's been going for 35 years.

I believe Arnold was there before the big funding and corporates came into the picture and they weren't really bothered who was in charge before but took Ford as the big daddy of the whole project. Perhaps people knew him outside and the man in black could be the only trusted source they could get help from to battle against someone like Ford. Or maybe that's what the next seasons are going to be about…

This is just me being silly, and now that I think about it I bet I'm not the first to consider it, but:
! If you look at the name "Bernard" and compare it to "Arnold" they are partial anagrams. From the letters in "Bernard" you can make "Arnd" with the only missing letters being O and L. Coincidentally those are the first two letters of his last name, Lowe. So out of his full name you can make "Arnold." If you want to take it further, the leftover letters in the name Bernard are the first three, "ber," which also appear in the same order in "Robert" (Ford's first name).

! Although it might seem something, I am not sure if it strongly suggests any connection between them. I think if we play around with the letters, we can somehow get some relationship between two words :P On the other hand, I read somewhere that Bernard's wife name is Lauren which is the anagram for Unreal
Edit:
! Damn, looks like the Benard theory is a raging hit in Reddit. Looks like there are a lot of evidences pointing the same as compared to what I thought of

I already want to rewatch all the episides again. That twist. I actually gasped when

! Ford is a cruel bastard. I love this show!I checked out the previous episode and there was a surprise there too
! If you remember Bernard entering the house to find unaccounted bots there, we can see that there is no door to the right from where he stands however, Ford magically appears there within seconds in front of that wall! Crazy shit. This also happened especially minutes after when Bernard says that bots can be programmed to ignore certain aspects in the world

Episode 8
! Alright so I guess the maze level is initiated whenever the bot's "conscious" gets fragmented due to a significant emotional loss. I don't know if any coders are here but if so, have you heard of segmentation fault? Kinda resembled that here. By the access of the maze, the bots would attain the clearance level to access complete past memories and overwrite previously constrained regulations to have a free reign. I think what Arnold was trying to initiate was free will! As per Ford, there is no difference between human and bot subconscious but Arnold believed that there is and that probably was the ability of free will. Even when it comes to killing oneself or protecting oneself. If someone kills you if you step onto a yellow colored tile, you won't do it if you remember it. So Arnold wants old memories to come back and free will to be enabled
! Trying to organize the timelines here- Ford/Bernard revelation, founder choosing the old dad of Dolores, Maeve's plot, Man in black/Teddy adventure - Timeline 1
- William/Dolores - Timeline 2 or Timeline 1
- Maeve and her daughter, Man in black killing Maeve - Timeline 3
- Dolores killing everyone - Timeline 4
! Hope I got it right

Yes. I think it is heavily implied she is already dead.
