Looked around for a thread on this but couldn't find one. Anywho, thought people should know about (if they don't already) the new Anime RWBY created by Monty Oum that premiered on the RoosterTeeth website today. It was an amazing start to this series, and I can't wait for episode 2 next Thursday!

Not sure how I feel about this.
Ruby's dialogue sounds very… "human" though. I like that.
The animation could also be better, but it has nice choreography.

Have you seen Haloid on youtube? That's probably what it reminds you of and why Monty sounds familiar. He created Haloid back then and has done animations for game companies like Midway games before he joined the RoosterTeeth crew

Monty Oum did Dead Fantasy. I've been keeping my eye out for this since the Red trailer but the voice acting makes my ears hurt.

Seems interesting from what I saw while skipping through it. I like monty oum, watched all of his dead fantasy movies and they always had nice over the top fight choreography.

I have been looking forward to RWBY since the White trailer. There are a lot of flaws to their production, but the stylistical choices appealed to me on some level, so I made a note to follow this. The first episode was a decent introduction to the world and Ruby herself, and the action and choreography was on par with what I came expecting from seeing the trailers. And damn if they haven't improved the voice acting. In the episode you can listen to Ruby without bleeding from your years. Now if something could be done about the actual lines.
And for those who haven't seen them, here are the four trailers Rooster Teeth have released for their project during the previous months.

Yeah, you're right, at least the girls are inspired by fairy tales. Ruby Rose - Little Red Riding Hood, Weiss Schnee - Snow White, Blake Belladonna - Beauty and the Beast, Yang Xiao Long - Goldilocks.

Volume 2 has more gear/money and it really shows in the animation. Things are much smoother and there are real background people now.(btw - wouldn't this belong in western animation thread?)

Apparently this was something that Monti Oum has been building the base work for the last several years so when he started getting it going all the character backgrounds, general history, and way everything worked was already sketched out.

Monty Oum passed away yesterday. I havent followed RWBY but Ive been a massive fan, patiently waiting for new Dead Fantasy for years. I dont know what this means for the future of RWBY but I am in complete shock.

Lol, that would be an epic reason for the scowl Taiyang gave Qrow when leaving the room.
But at the same time, I wouldn't want that to be the case.
Qrow's fine as the drunken Uncle, and we don't know enough about Summer Rose to suspect her of being unfaithful to Taiyang. -
Oh hey, I didn't know AP had a RWBY thread either. Cool.
! Ok, so it's been a week and a half, and I have in that time managed to come to terms with the fact that my favorite character in the show was shot through the chest with an arrow and then disintegrated. I still have a sliver of hope that she's not gone forever, but for now she's dead, and there is plenty of character development that's gonna come from that, especially for Jaune.
! I'm also glad that Ruby is not a maiden. I was expecting that, but rather than making the maidens the sole focus of the story, we instead have this more open ended idea that there will be many of Remnant's legends that turn out to be true, with their own associated abilities and powers. I think that will make the story more interesting in the long run.

I'm liking the new duds, Ruby! More mature, but still keeping that "woodsy-girl" feeling.
The question though is how many years have we skipped? It's hard to tell with Ruby, but from what I can tell in that one pic of the rest of team JNPR they've got to be at least in their 20s by now. And is it me or does Jaune have a ponytail now?

And yeah, I'd say two years too.Remember that RWBY was moved ahead two years in her education,
so this basically catches up her development time, while the others will have gotten even stronger (although Ruby's natural prowess will mean she won't fall behind.) Super hyped for this.
I'm curious as to whether she learned how to control any of her silver power over the past 2 years. Or whether that would make her a bit OP for this early stage of the post-beacon story. -
So having seen the whole trailer now, a couple thoughts:
The move from using Poser to Maya really shows. Very noticeable improvement in the animation. They got a lot of mileage out of Poser when Monty was around due to his experience with it, but at the end of the day it was called Poser for a reason. Movement, facial expression, etc all look really good, and apparently it's still unpolished, which says quite a bit.
Regarding the timeskip, the quote coming out of the panel was "It's not a massive timeskip or anything but stuff happens". Given what was shown in the trailer I'd say less than a year is likely.
