@Taco:
I am appalled. I believe this thread was clearly asking a theoretical question – I believe it because I intentionally made this thread with the premise of trying to make that clear in the original post so I wouldn't have to see garbage like this. It doesn't matter if you think it won't happen. That's what theory is about, it's not a hard concept to understand.
If all of mankind was ignorant, then I believe your responses would be completely and 100% warranted. However, since not all of us are ignorant, these questions give us great situations to imagine. Don't want to participate in the discussion? That's great, in fact, I would encourage just walking off every time you heard somebody say something you don't like. Suffice to say, both of you failed to do that.
Let's be adults about this and let people discuss what they want, since the poll and rest of the discussion seems to be interesting.
I'm appalled at your fixation for death and your lack of humor. So I'm an abomination to the human race because I don't see the logic in your thread? That's not being very mature.

@Taco:
The New World is a dangerous place. Who says everyone who goes in will come out alive in the end? There are two ways to survive in the New World. Go under the branch of a yonkou or continually challenge them. You think the thought is ridiculous but it's not so ridiculous when you have multiple extremely strong pirates and the marines on your tail.
I guess I'll spoil it for you now. I believe there's at least, at the very minimal, an 80% chance of a strawhat dying. If you look at this manga in retrospect, death is not that rare. But what's the point of the death for the strawhats as a whole? Good question, and trust me, it's not hard to use your imagination. It would be a sacrifice for the will and dreams of the other strawhats, that's what would make the death so great and emotional. Right now, I believe the strawhats are very laid-back in what seems to be a very serious place. There needs to be conflict, not to tighten the strawhats up, but to allow them to learn how serious the New World is.
I just find it hard to believe that 100% of the crew will be alive when they finish their journey.
THAT WAS THE REASON FOR THE TIME SKIP! Meaningful death for the main character and the world were all ready covered in the Marineford arc. Other main characters (other than Luffy because of the symmetry he has to Roger) dying especially near the end would make any previous training seem worthless.
