@Kaos:
And honestly, I don't understand why you see him as a seahorse, seahorses don't spit water but there're lots of fish that do it to catch insects.
I was refering that the in fantasy cartoon, comics, manga, anime etc. stories the stereotype seacreature that spits water always is a seahorse. Unfortunally of course I can´t think of any story to back that up right now, but the water spitting definitely always is done by a seahorse.
And I think his mouth actually fits very well with a seahorse over any other stereotype sea creature.
You know every animal family has some sort of regular cast that gets used as representatives. If you talk about wildcats then the usual suspects are tigers, lions, cheetahs and panthers. When you think of birds of prey, then eagle´s, hawk´s and vulture´s are the usual suspects. And so on and so on.
However the seacreature family is much larger therefore the cast of usual suspects is larger too. Among them are the great white shark, dolphins, orca´s, octopusses, mantas, crabs, eels, oysters, sea turtles, that wale race that Moby Dick is (sorry but I don´t know the name) and seahorses.
Creatures like perches, salmons, clods, trouts, carps or that thing thats called chuu in japanese aren´t actually the usual suspects you confront to people as representatives of sea creatures.
I mean it is a silly example but just look at Disney´s Arielle and tell me how many of the above mentioned usual suspects you can see there and how many of the other shrimps.
I hope I could somewhat understandable explain the thought behind the idea.
