I'm mostly putting a massive slow-down to collecting for financial reasons, but yeah 
The market lately just hasn't much that I'm interested in. As far as resale, if I go to the trouble of reselling my figures (which is unlikely because I'm lazy shit), I'm gonna be happy just getting something. The value is not really the reason for my collection. But for now, it's gotten as big as I can display it (and it's all not displayed properly) so I think it's time to bow out for awhile. Sabo, Koala, the new Nami, Corazon & Law will be it for me. I doubt that Gladius is gonna happen at this point, so I'll just keep my eye out for new Namis.

I'm pretty sure it's just the same figure except with a translucent pink plastic for the feathers… Which doesn't really match the rest of the figure's texture, unless they're completely re-texturing this figure. So it all looks smoother. Which I would think would detract from the sculpt. I really like the gritty look of the original, personally.

Since the timeskip, the quality has just declined imo. Fishman Island wasn't a great arc and neither was Punk Hazard. Dressrosa is one of my least favorite arcs next to Thriller Bark.
Ouch! That's harsh. I at least liked the Law and Doflamingo backstory in Dressrosa. I wanted to kill myself during a year of the Mugiwaras running away from (non-lethal) poison gas during Punk Hazard.
I agree that the quality has been down a bit since the Straw Hats got to the New World. I think the real problem is the complete and utter lack of any kind of character progression for any of the Mugiwaras, though. It was the drama surrounding the various crew members that made the first half of the series great.
I'm in the opposite camp. Fishman Island, and the beginning of Punk Hazard bored me to tears, but I'm liking that the focus is being shifted towards more of the world at large than JUST the Straw Hats. I was going to call Dressrosa my favorite arc but… it got waaaaaay too drawn out. If anything, the Law/Cora/Dofla backstory could've been much longer and more detailed That was infinitely more interesting than all of the stuff after the tournament. So I'm kinda back in the "I keep up with the manga but I'm not super into it" stage. I'm sure someone will come get me when Croc is back.
I'm also kinda mad about Law... after his backstory reveal, he kinda got shafted. That was literally keeping me going and then it just deflated... He really DIDN'T get to play much of a hand in defeating Doflamingo AND THAT CHEAPENED HIS CHARACTER SO MUCH D:<

I can't really explain the reason of the let down it's going on in One Piece, i don't know if in Japan they feel it the same way, in France at least One Piece is so popular that french editions are going to release all the log collection, my bro got my the first volume yesterday!!!
Collection wise, i gave myself until december 2015 then i will stop preordering
because it's a hassle, and most of the time figures are still in stock and sometimes drop in price.
Also the recent POP are exclusive, prices are increasing too much for me and i found the banpresto creator x creator,Scultures and MSP lines more interesting in term of quality,characters,prices,availability.
I think the market is flooding with so many stuff that the portrait of pirates line is dying slowly, i love scales but i think it might be a good thing for me and my wallet too lol

Fishman Island itself was ok, but my real hatred for Punk Hazard came about from two normal panels.

They're two sort of inconsequential pages, but when Oda retconned the whole "deadly gas" thing, it made the urgency and sacrifices of the whole arc seem completely pointless. There's always a chance that One Piece will get back to it's glory days, but I have no idea when. And until they do, OP merchandise sales will stay stagnant at best and go lower at worst.

Speaking from experience of visiting Japan in the last months versus the last times I was in Japan during the merchandise highs of OP…...I can say the popularity of OP hasn't died down.....if anything it has become a common household name and permeation in the Japanese culture as series like Dragon Ball has in the past. The problem with deflating values both in practice and perceived of OP merchandise is definitely saturation....you're talking about a series that is even attached to almost every common household items ranging from bathroom deodorizers to clothes hangers. There's just too much of it in too short a time so either people are spreading out their buying to other products involving OP or buying other things because the brand doesn't conjure a premium/special image anymore since it's everywhere. From the friends I talked to in Japan and peers and visiting events like Tokyo Tower, the series itself is still widely popular and accepted as generally being awesome. It has slowed down without a doubt in the last years but it's still definitely one of the top series out there bar none.
That said, I'm pretty proud to have been part of the rush on the collectible side....it's been a fun experience that I won't forget and I've met many great people while the fun lasted. It's nice to see everyone just chill and relax these days anyway.....takes a lot of the stress out of the constantly hunting/reserving preorders etc type stuff that had to be done back in the crazy days.

There was never a Lao G POP - something Megahouse would say.

You and me both buddy. Getting up at 3AM was fun for about a year, but then things changed (in life and in OP) and those days are no more. In fact, I think the last OP item I actually preordered was POP Doflamingo, which I ultimately canceled. Now, people get to wait for stuff to hit rock bottom prices or just buy at their leisure. That's one of the few positives from oversaturation.

Yeah I definitely do not doubt that One Piece's popularity is down at allllll in Japan. And most of us here are still super big fans
But yeah, I think a lot of people got a huge rush off those brutal early AM pre-orders and high values, and now that the market is super saturated with goods and you really don't have to put out much effort to get most things anymore… That is a buzzkill for some people. Not me though, I WELCOME being able to take my time in ordering, and not having to make split-second decisions at 4 AM anymore. Sooooo much better.

I do agree with you, i think it's not the popularity that dies but more the interest in the goods offered, though i will have to say the POP line is the one that suffered the most, i can't really tell about the wcf lines or even the styling lines.
I do remember those times when i had to wake up at a certain time and open many tabs to be sure to secure at least one while some go crazy and ordered 2/3 to resell after market at crazy price, i kind of miss the mood around this moment, talking about the time, the place where it was up first, saying like "otacute opened up go go go!!!" but i won't miss it now.
And about the drop interest in POP line, i think megahouse just realized their mistakes and i think that is the reason why most of their new POP are limited and exclusive, as if to give a prestige aura to the name POP again.
Though their problem would be fixed if they just dropped down the pricing a bit, make more POP that are SAL-able,product less POP so they sold out faster, and most of all FINALLY MAKES THE CHARACTERS PEOPLE ARE WAITING FOR!!!
If they do that they will gain popularity again for sure!

I thought this from day one which is why I passed initially. It seems a lot of the POP face sculpts have been off recently. A bit too real, not cartoony enough….....
I made reference to the overall decline in OP merchandise popularity in another post recently. I was looking at an article from Kotaku from last year where they specifically documented the decline in OP merchandise. Since the timeskip, the quality has just declined imo. Fishman Island wasn't a great arc and neither was Punk Hazard. Dressrosa is one of my least favorite arcs next to Thriller Bark. I mean, Oda really hit it out of the park with Sabaody, then Amazon Lily, then Impel Down, and then the War. The New World was touted as this really harsh, dangerous place with a lot of mysteries, but it hasn't really been shown yet after four years. My only hope is that from here on, Oda escalates things by a factor of 10 and brings in more unique, interesting characters (as well as a few old favorites). He does that, and both merchandise and interest will pick back up. He doesn't, and things will stay the same (or get worse).
Didn't he do that? Law (2nd), Kuzan (22nd), Sabo (5th), Smoker (24th), Kid (18th) and Doula Mongo (17th) all were reintroduced in this saga.
And so many interesting characters were introduced. Bartolomeo himself got into the top 10 in the popularity poll. Cavendish is fairly popular as well. And then there's Rosinante, Fujitora, Koala, Caesar, Sugar and Senor Pink who all scored high in the poll as well. And you've got all those unique-looking gladiators.
I mean, he pretty much did what you want him to do.

Punk Hazard -- One "sort of new" character released: Trafalgar Law. Punk Hazard Law pre-sold out and went to multiple printings.
Dressrosa -- Limited Cavendish and Bartolomeo sold well and became expensive aftermarket pieces. Dressrosa Law went to multiple printings and even got a second version. Rebecca pre-sold out and inexplicably got no reissue. Fujitora, Bellamy, Sugar, Momonosuke, Soldier and Child Rebecca all sell well and end up having few discounts. No Dressrosa Luffy or Doflamigo released (for some reason). Sabo and Koala look certain to sell well/sell out.
From where I'm standing, I don't see what MegaHouse's problem is with expanding the range of current characters produced. Their only real disasters in recent history are in producing old characters no longer relevant (Leopard Lucci, Arlong, MAX Kid) and movie figures that came out well after the movie and with an incomplete crew.
What do you guys think?
I think Bandai works in mysterious ways. Soooo many characters they can do in all of their figure lines from all of the properties they can get licenses or own licenses of, yet they don't make them.. so sad.

I think the same as you, i didn't get why they made characters like Lucci,Arlong and Kid….Also i found stupid that they didn't made more Punk Hazard characters and Strawhats version, that would have been a hit (i'm thinking of half naked Zoro, Robin in her shirt and mini short, Sanji's in Nami's body,Franky in Chopper's body) they missed a good sale there...
Also they didn't offered the most awaited character in POP size, Baggy is waiting, too long imo....
I don't think Sabo and Koala will sell well, Sabo's hype is slowly dying there, and Koala wasn't really important to get a figure treatment.
As for movie Film Z, they messed up badly by not making the whole crew, it's all because MH focused on making MAS Lucci,Marco,Max Kid, Killer v2)
For the completionist it sure hurts to see only half of it (if i remember there is luffy,zoro,nami,sanji, chopper and Robin) they just don't wanna think too much about the work they would give for Usopp and Franky or Brook who are massive in their size and or outfit.
And now we have an upcoming movie, will MH announce them once we have the final characters drawing? it would be wise to start to sell them before the movie release like they did for strong world if my memory don't fail...
For this arc now we mostly have them stop, Corazon and Law kid would be the last ones, i don't think they will makes a second Doflamingo, because his popularity ain't that high (not anymore?)
But there is still Kaidou to make, even big mom, and honestly i'm still waiting for a Bellemere renewal version, and a dream i have is to have an Olivia POP and a young Rayleigh/Roger/Shanks!
There is still so many options to go with, the only thing i'm scared about is the upcoming limited exclusive release they announced, with their increase in price, those who are not in Japan will have to go through shops that offers exclusive, payment upfront, paying more using some of them....
I hope the next arc would be really serious with awesome characters appearance that gives a fresh air, since their time skip there is something missing in the manga/anime, i can't point it out but i hope they would fix it.

I do have Zoro on pre-order since I was so impressed with the Luffy I wanted the whole crew. But I think I'll cancel him.

From memory no Robin was every announced…......only Nami and Mihawk..........Robin will come I don't doubt it, but Usopp, Franky and Brook, and to some degree Chopper (His most popular form would be difficult to warrant articulation) are very unlikely........
I expect they will gauge how well Mihawk sells before considering doing anyone else outside the poll top 10............

They've all been announced. The Calender posted earlier shows that they'll all be released at some point. Which is good. And there'll be multiples too. Luffy, Nami and Robin are all coming with two versions for alt colours it seems.

They've all been announced. The Calender posted earlier shows that they'll all be released at some point. Which is good. And there'll be multiples too. Luffy, Nami and Robin are all coming with two versions for alt colours it seems.
Yeah i've noticed that, but the thing that irks me was the fact they made us vote and the winners are not the first ones, but well i'm happy they are making Zoro,Ace,Barto,Robin,Perona along with Law and Hancock!
I've heard there will be a new batch of scultures and one of them would be Luffy gear 4th, there was some other DXF announced too but i didn't remember the names, must check on twitter if the names are there!

Well they asked us to vote for our favorite, but already planned to release Luffy nami and Robin, may be it's because of the stock? i mean may be they planned to do them all since the beginning but they wanna see how much people likes each one of them? a test of popularity or something? well i don't really get it but they give to everyone the whole characters, everyone will be pleased hopefully!

There is plenty of them we saw to make a whole set or two at least
Luffy,Ace,Law,Kaku,Kalifa for sure, there is also blackbeard one? there is Whitebeard one, and Baggy one? i'm not really sure but they can show us the devil fruits now, i feel myself robbed once with making prize figure of luffy's and Ace and making Law's premium….
Devil fruits are potentially hit, i am even willing to buy a special artbook with devil fruits inside!
