I think that would have to be the most filler I've seen in a single episode of the new anime. I can see the reason as to why they did it, but it also has me mildly annoyed.

You're thinking transmutation types when it comes to transforming. Biske's a transmutation type, not reinforcement
Really depends on the ability transformation doesn mean one has to be a transmutation user. I mean remember tsubone having this vehicle transformer ability which was a conjuration type of ability. Gon transforming into an older form of himself is very likely reinforcement if you think along the lines of reinforcing growth.
Biske is transforming her real self into a more condensed form which is reasonable/very likely transmutation.

I really liked the new episode, the only thing that was a little annoying that these introduction scenes didn't do anything for these characters but it was still nice to watch.
-
The only thing that annoyed me about the introduction scenes is that the whole time i was thinking, man they make filler scenes for "unimportant" characters but they couldn't do a scene w/ Kaito.

I didn't actually think about this while I was watching the episode, now I'm more annoyed about those little introductory scenes. Especially since I thought the introductions were perfectly fine in the manga to begin with.

Who's Kaito?
16 Omitted Characters
-
…16 characters of Kite?
-
16 characters of unreadable sarcasm

16 characters of my malfunctioning sarcasm detector then.

I got used to reading his name as Kaito so i've always gone with that.
I know you were probably just making a joke about his lack of existence, however.
-
Kaito is dead and has been dead ever since Pitou killed him. Ant-Kaito is a completely different character altogether that just so happens to have the previous kites memory's.
I also consider Palm to be dead and Ant-Palm to be another character that just happens to have the previous palms memory's

Palm's not a normal Ant, though. She wasn't actually eaten by the Queen. She committed suicide because she thought they killed Knov and they experimented on her and resuscitated her with Ant DNA. She's more of a Hybrid-Zombie than a reborn Ant.

What? Palm has still her memories and her personality, only the body changed slightly and she got some new abilities. And Kaito was basically reborn through his ability, so he's still Kaito.

Someone mentioned earlier that Kaito's special ability to allow him to be reborned might be Ging pulling it out of his ass to make gon feel better. Cause think of the numerous other ants who were ""reborned"" with their human memory's intact. Granted none of the memory's came over night

Ability or not, chapter 337 makes it clear that Kaito is still Kaito, not just his memories but his 'self'.

Oh fuck! I forgot about him.
Well he was a very rare occasion and I believe he was the only ant that left the hive practically ASAP–- Update From New Post Merge ---

How about new body with an old soul, does that tickle your fancy?
-
I thought strong willed individuals could stay living in their new ant bodies, kind of like their personality is the dominant one out of all the other creatures that were consumed to produce that ant. Maybe I just made that up though to try and make sense on how some ants seem to be dead people reborn and other ants seem to strictly be a new life made from what the queen ate

Yes, that's kind of it. Which would also overwrite your previous statement.

No. Pretty sure it was stated that humans with strong wills can have their consciousness dominated the ant body. Of course, that doesn't explain Reina. I mean, I guess it's possible a little girl could have a strong enough will, but it doesn't seem very likely.

I read up to where the head Hunter guy kills the mini-Cell look-a-like and then Gon goes into weird wrestler mode. I quit after that, I did give it a try. Still I do love YYH to death

I still stick by that old statement somewhat. I still believe that the kite that we were Introduced to back in chapter 1 is dead.

Ok so you got to Netero vs Mereum and Gons transformation.
So do tell why did you quit? -
Then you have a different view on the concept of reincarnation than me.
I'm sure a new body affects the mind in some ways, if that's what you're getting at, but I think when everyone in HxH thinks s/he's Kaito and s/he himself thinks s/he's Kaito then there's still a Kaito around. Togashi has not shown any indication that Kaito is gone. -

Should muscle though it! It's not too much left after that then you'll hit the hiatus wall.

Is it good that it's on hiatus or are you a fan?

So do tell why did you quit?I quit because it was like this guy Gon knew as a kid dies and suddenly he goes super Gon for no reason. Also the arc was like wtf, why do I care about these random super bugs? I only enjoyed Killua and Kurapika but that's because they are cool as character I don't have any attachment to them, unlike other characters in manga I do enjoy. I might pick it back up but it will take LOTS of motivation

I am a fan. I'm not happy it went on hiatus but it at least hit at a good resting point. Not in the middle of a conflict or anything.
Gon's transformation wasn't random. Others above mentioned why. I feel that during the YorkShin arc Gon's interest in the conditions was peaked. He just didn't have a reason to use it until that fight against the Ants. I'm a bit confused about part of your statement. You think Killua and Kurapika were cool but didn't have any emotional attachment to em? Why's that?

Didn't you notice that the whole story was one giant deconstruction of the shonen genre without going too preachy or self-aware like many post-modern stories.
The king (Merriam) is meant to look like a combination of Freeza and Cell because they are the most recognizable characters for the 'all powerful creature' archetype. Hunter does it different though and makes Merriam a real character instead of an arc boss. If you were born to be the savior then what is the need to sacrifice loved ones (Kamugi) for conquest? Where Cell was born with a mission in mind, Merriam asks why and once his existential analysis is over (and boy that takes a while) he only resorts to violence after being provoked and blackmailed by Netero.
Gon's transformation is by the same notion of taking pre-existing trope and taking it to a whole knew level. Shonen protagonists pull power-ups out of their arse all the time and Man Gon is heavily reflective of once again Dragon Ball, a series that has both influenced and stagnated the creativity in the genre. If you read the aftermath of the fight, it is clear that Togashi is trying to depict the ramifications these characters should exhibit after going through these ludicrous power-ups. Without spoiling everything, Togashi uses transformation as sacrifice rather than transcendence.
People complained the the Chimera Ants were way too powerful for the series at it's current point in time. Yes that is an entirely accurate critique but you have to remember that none of the Royal Ants were defeated by conventional shonen battle techniques. Netero's deception/the genocidic nature of man defeated 3 out of the 4 bosses and only Gon, who essentially destroyed himself, finished off the last. Mankind was onable to overcome adversity through deception and self-destruction opposed to the diplomacy Merriam was asking for earlier within the arcs climax.
Well that's what I got out of the story. Probably looking at it too deeply and completely in the wrong direction. Also everybody knows that Knuckle is best character and could clobber Killua and Kurapika any day of the week.
-
Mereum was hostile from the get-go, although that could have just been due to the caste system of the Ants in general. As time progressed and he began playing the board game more often with Kamugi, that's when he started to question things. But he didn't really cease his violent and blatant disregard for life until after he was blown up. I was under the impression that it caused severe memory loss, or at least some sort of concussion, which not only suppressed his memories of Kamugi, but of his whole nature in general. However, despite Pufu's efforts, he saw Komugi and regained his memories, but at that time, realized it was too late to do much of anything. My impression was that he knew of the radiation poisoning immediately after the Rose bomb detonated, but it's a little ambiguous. Yupi died offscreen because he had become irrelevant at that point.
-
I liked the ants arc, it really exercised Togashi's creative muscle (surfing lion defeated by carbon dioxide, anyone?)
-
The story through the Chimera arc was pretty amazing, how Kaito died originally is still the best death I've seen in a manga

I can't really understand your reasoning behind any of your statements, even when you said why…it's just doesn't compute. What other series do you follow btw. It might give me some kind of insight into your preference.
-
Throughout the whole series were there any random power ups? Besides Gon's not random power up.

The only one that got something like a "Random Powerup" was Palm. After becoming an Ant, she gained much better control over her Nen powers, to the point where they were actually extremely useful.

Naruto, Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon, Digimon, Hello Kitty…
No, I enjoyed YYH, Rurouni Kenshin, Dragonball (DBZ is highly overrated in my opinion), One Piece, Death Note (I quit after L died, why continue), Soul Reaper was ok, Ao no Exorcist was decent, RAVE was good, M.A.R, Gash Bell... Those are the main ones of the top of my head so pretty generic mostly Shonen manga

I only quit Death Note because shortly after L dies I was like ok where is the epic battle of the minds I so loved? I didn't quit anything else except HxH because I read like 300 chapters waiting for something and just nothing.
Ok so you got to Netero vs Mereum and Gons transformation.
So do tell why did you quit?Because it was boring as hell. Gon went hax like every other manga and Mereum was just a reused Cell like character who had to be beaten by bomb. If the ants were that dangerous why was Mereum the first to appear who could beat almost any human? He is born and a few days later he is competing with the Hunter president but somehow Naruto is hax and YYH is worse than HxH. I don't understand people

Yeah, this has been my philosophy for a long time. Very recently, as in like a day or two ago, I started reading Rebirth: The Lunatic Taker, and it didn't start out strongly at all. But, my policy is to never drop anything ever (I guess you could say I've dropped Bleach because I only look through the pictures, I only read the dialogue if it looks like it'll be bad), so I kept on and heylookatthat, it became way more interesting later on, introducing elements I never thought it would and becoming a very different manga.
My policy generally only benefits me, as I've come to find out.

Actually most ants could kill most humans, since most humans in HxH don't have nen to be technical.ANd you're forgetting the royal guard who were super powerful. Or the fact that Gon's grow up ability had devestating side effects and put him in a coma. And we kike HxH for more than just the fights. The point of Meyrem was more his character development than his fighting ability. Also, the thing that you ignore is that Mayrem was the only ant produce that had been made up of a nen user before birth, and that he could eat people and gain their power

Yes I believe chrollo is dead.

Not to sound like a pretentious arse or anything but fighting and power levels really aren't all comics are about. Personally I find these two to be the most boring elements of the medium. My advice would be maybe not continue with the series if all you are looking for in a series is fighting and whether a character has a "hax" power level. I mean the next arc does revolve around an election and there is maybe 1 chapter dedicated to fighting. Oh and Firefist, I'll get back to our conversation as soon as my computer gets fixed.

This is exciting, new Togashi material. Maybe he'll start mangakaing again soon too. (wishful thinking)
-
Is Togashi doing the story? Is it canon?
EDIT: I see Togashi is doing the story. The details say Kurapica will take the lead as the main character with Gon/Killua being a little more like supporting characters. Sounds a lot like Yorksin. I wonder if this is setting up for another Kurapica centered arc in the manga. We're due for one. Also i could see the manga starting up again around the release of this movie. It'd be another 6ish months from now, sounds realistic enough.
-
funny if its revealed that Togashi has been taking all these breaks to work on the movie secretly.
-
Very nice. I know that there has been some talk about a movie, but I didn't expect it to be canon.
More stuff about the Genei Ryodan is always good.
