he was a stratigist, like two other generals that were accualy slain easely? the old man from renpas crew and the thin smal general that was wich was shins first general, forgot is name.
this could inply thus that he has not a lot of real combat experience. and the fact that he totaly got stabbed in the back by his own man.

Again, this was a legendary general. I'd expect for a well rounded soldier, not someone who is just good at chess.

Well that's what he was. He carried no weapons, wore no real armor, and taught Gohoumei strategy.
Unless you expected some ninja skills or Karate, the guy clearly wasn't a fighter
Seems like he's on par with Gokei/Fuuji/Gohoumei/other Qin guy that was part of Ouki's death, in that strategist realm but still run vast armies.
There's been a clear split of these types of Generals since Shin and Ten went their separate ways. Why guys like Ouki/Ryofui so dangerous.
It's not like I'm not disappointed after the hype, but this is just to further Shins advancement in the military at the end of the day.

I don't know, Wei and the other states will realize that Qin has earnestly started doing exactly what Tou said they would start doing (destroying kingdoms) with this latest ploy so I'm guessing 1 or more of the other states will send reinforcements. And short of another coalition (which prolly aint happening again) it really wouldn't be that strange or rare for one of the bordering states like Zhao or Han (thought given that they are the weakest of the 7 states and the fact that Qin only has 1 general deployed in the critical area i think they would focus on their own defense) to show up.
So i think it would be interesting to see what happens over the next year.

when does chapter 402 come out? and the spoilers…
-
Turnip just released their scan today, so I guess it just depends on when they get their scan seeing as sources of raws need to take a bit more time with the installation of new antipiracy comic laws

Thanks a lot. I love this manga. It gets better and better.

I doubt it, Wei still needs a round 2 right? Seemed like some emphasis was put on defense of that fort and Wei wasn't going down easily.
I wonder if Shin will get an award ceremony again for slaying a 'legendary' Fire Dragon?
-
Nah, but we will See him again in the Manga,
Yeah, i think Award:
1. Ouhon, plan + killing Earl Shi
2. Shin, fighting/stoping Gaimou + Killing Reiou
3. Kyoukai, capturing Wei HQTou will as the General get earned equally, because hes the leader

"For the award of doing absolutely nothing for longer than anyone else, Tou!"

Ch. 402 will be up next week, Kingdom is on break this week.

@Purple:
"For the award of doing absolutely nothing for longer than anyone else, Tou!"
First up the honour goes to the man who led Qin s men to victory, Commander in Chief General mougou. (Chapter 243) and the only thing he has done was to lose one Arm. Is was the Plan of Ouhon, to let them Focus there Main offense against Tou.
Oh no, a break….

I doubt it, Wei still needs a round 2 right? Seemed like some emphasis was put on defense of that fort and Wei wasn't going down easily.
No way will there be another arc right now against Wei, no matter how small. Hara made that clear by herself by killing most of the Wei opponents. And the fortress will be finished in one year, thats too fast.
And once its finished, Wei will be out of the picture: Any attack deeper into Wei would made the whole fortress pointless, so a potential Wei campaign would have to take them out completely (and thats nothing that the rest of china would allow, as Qin has learned during the Alliance War).
But on the other hand, if Qin wants to attack Zhao for example, they dont have to worry about Wei (and Han) anymore. Chu on the other hand….... -
Go Hou Mei is no Kanki.
But damn if he didn't just single-handedly redeem this awful Ouhon arc by escaping Shin with such class.
-
So this fortress building… To make Shin stay there and to build up saving the King moment?

Well… historical spoilers ahead.
! It's probably to keep any big campaign Shin might participate in from happening, considering they are going to put Ryofui out of the picture within the next year, and Hara will most certainly alter history for Shin to play a major part in the events.

! Shin, Ouhon and Mougu still need achievements if they're to have a pivotal role in the sacking of the rest of the Kingdoms. I think Hara may be bold and have them off racking up victories, allowing the story of Ryofui to unfold as per the official history told it.
-
There are five years from the fall of Ryo Fui to the beginning of the unification conquest. Plenty of time for the younger generation to come into its own and gather all the victories and achievements they need to lead the conquest.
If we are to believe Shiji, Ryofui mostly falls by his own hands. But seeing as it is Hara who does this manga, and his Ryofui is betting it all on the coming ceremony, it a safe bet to see the coming arc turn into an assassination action fest.

Damn, just read the Renpa-Arc again… 4 heavenly Kings are so awesome. hope we see Kyou En again, one of the best character designs... and of course renpa.

! hes gonna get away with the assassination attempt again though, but proof will be found out about the queen dowager soon after. Wonder if Hara will go into Qin Shi Huang's parentage? Some believe Ryofui was really his father…

! I think some historians dispute that statement because they believed that it was a smear campaign by later generations to deface the Qin. The Han dynasty's historians in particular didn't have a high opinion of the Qin dynasty. Also, irl, it is believed that Sei saw Ryofui as a father figure and was fond of him.

! In Confucian thought, merchants are at the bottom of the class hierarchy. For Sei to be the son of a merchant would servers as an insult, so it's thought to have been a rumour meant to both discredit and shame him.

Really? I thought the Han were always revered and celebrated, even directly after their downfall and with all their obvious downsides and problems.
The same can be said about the Ming and Tang, which were always considered as Golden Ages, even by the directly following dynasties.

… I think you misread something here. I meant that Qin dynasty was in many ways demonized by later dynasties, especially Han.

what if i post a Full Summary Of Chapter 402 :)
! raw : http://tieba.baidu.com/p/3292334102 Summary: -2 months after capturing Choyou, Qin had already sent thousands of craftsmen, laborers and soldiers to Choyou for the construction of the fortress. -Qin had also sent a huge number of migrants to the neighboring castle of Sanyou, causing the population in Sanyou to double. -Shin and co. mention that Sanyou and Choyou will be the key to destroying Wei in the future and eventually the unification of China. -During the short discussion, a scout rushed back to Shin reporting that Kyokai's unit is currently in combat with Wei forces. -Meanwhile in the capital of Zhao, Riboku also realizes the 200 year power balance between the 7 states of the warring kingdom will soon be broken after the fall of both Choyou and Sanyou. The state to break this power balance will definitely be Qin and China will move towards the new era. -He also analyzes that Chu had not done anything significant since the end of the coalition invasion and are probably training their army, making them a force to be reckoned with together with Qin. However, what they are exactly capable of doing is still currently unknown. (page 8 bottom pic: i wonder if Xiang Yan is the one to the far left in the background). -With that, Riboku also planned to strengthen the forces of Zhao to be on par with Qin and Chu. -Riboku also states that the battle in Kanyou(between Sei and Ryofui) will decide the fate of China as Sei is key to breaking the power balance between the states. -Meanwhile in Kanyou, Sei and Ryo seem to be unfazed by the petty arguments between the lesser court officials regarding the funding of Choyou's fortress construction in the background. -Just as the arguments between the court officials were heating up, The Queen Dowager suddenly returned the court after moving out of Kanyou for 2 years to avoid bad luck*. She demanded them to hand Sanyou and Choyou to the harem**. -Looks like Shin will be kept busy in Choyou by the Wei forces while Sei will be fighting his own battle back in Kanyou. -There is no doubt the final showdown between the 2 powers in court will begin now. *Historical spoiler: Where did the Queen Dowager go and why did she disappear for 2 years? From Biography of Lu BuWei: 有身,太后恐人知之,诈卜当避时,徙宫居雍…... The Queen Dowager was pregnant(by Lao Ai). She feared that the news will spread if she stayed in XianYang(Kanyou) and moved to Yong(the old capital of Qin), using the excuse that a fortune teller had told her that staying in XianYang will bring bad luck. **Historical spoiler 2: Probably a foreshadow for this: From Annals of Qin Shi Huang: 嫪毐封为长信侯。予之山阳地,令毐居之。 Lao Ai was awarded the title of Count ChangXin. He was also awarded the land of ShanYang[Sanyou] and ordered to reside there.
-
thanks for the info, but please spoiler it.
! Well I guess we're back to court politics for the time being. The Wei forces are probably insignificant. At this stage, what can Wei possibly do? They've already lost two major strongholds and most of their "generals".

Just started reading this Manga a few days ago. Currently starting chapter 45 and liking the series so far. I was a little worried, and still am, about Shin becoming to strong compared to most of the characters so far in the series. I can take the victories so far because a number of them have been from others helping him. Only other thing is that Ouki is a boss for cutting down a man and a horse together with one swing.

Honestly? Shin, for me, is the weakest part of the story… but it doesn't matter. You know why?
Cause warfare and generals are awesome.
You've just went by the weakest part of the story, in my personal opinion, which is opening chapters. Next you go into first Campaign arc, which is awesome. You will see.
Also, I can tell you right now, there is still a long way for Shin to go four hundred chapters in. You don't have to worry about him being too strong compared to other people, it's just that his opponents thus far (where you are) were lacking.

I got the impression early on that Shin was going to be the weakest part of the story, but I agree that a number of even the early characters were awesome, like Ouki, cause nothing is more awesome then the first guy and horse he took down.
I am in the first campaign and it's pretty sweet overall at the moment. If the first part of the story is the weakest part, I can't wait to see the rest. Even though it had some weak parts, the first part sucked me in right away.
By the way, gotta thank you. Because of some of your others posts in sections briefly mentioning this manga, I decided to give it a go.

Don't mention it. I'm always glad when someone picks this manga up, it has become my personal favorite as I read it.
The rule of the manga is that if someone is named general and has unique design, then you can generaly expect them to be awesome. Ouki is just the first of many, many, many great commanders. It's one of those things that make you jealous for other people that did not yet experienced it.
Great military campaigns with badass commanders are the most glorious part of this manga, and the thing Hara excels at. Art gets better as the story progresses as well.
Altough you are still quite away from my favorite part of the manga…

Of the few generals that have been introduced, they all have quite unique designs, and each one seems to have a different way of how they lead and fight, or at least it's been indicated. Overall the art style is just great as well, which really shines in the battles. This was especially true when Shin ran up to the battle field, and you see the scope of the field, then all the stuff that was going on. Really gives the impression of a battle going on. Also the Chariots coming in was pretty damn epic.

Oh yeah, that was great. Altough at that point where you are, I believe only three great generals were introduced thus far, right? Ouki, Duke Hyou and Go Kei, correct?
They are all great, altough none of my favorites has appeared yet where you are. Keep reading, it only gets better.

Yes, only three have been introduced, with the introduction of Go Kei being great by holding the severed head of the "Star Dragon" General and his menacing look. Duke Hyou has only shown to seem to have tactics that are questionable, but I'm assuming here soon they'll be shown to be effective. That or it bites him in the ass.

Hmm… I can only promise that it will be awesome. You will see. I don't want to spoil it.
And yeah, if there is one weakness the manga has is that sometimes tactics leading to victory or failure can be... questionable. Not always, Hara is usually quite good at it, but sometimes.

Well... historical, Lao Ai was ripped apart by horses, his children put into sacks and beaten to death, his other family executed to the third degree... All and all, it was quite gruesome stuff. ! Nah, Lao Ai is the father of those kids. You know, Queen's lover? Any way, it is out of character for Sei, but not really out character for Zheng, and it would be a large departure from history if it happened otherwise, since that part is rather well documented.
! Zheng was not the nicest person alive, you know? -

! Zheng was not the nicest person alive, you know?! He is a king after all, he can't afford to be one. Would be good if Hara took that approach. So we Seinen tag would have a real use rather than limb cutting and blood.
-
Wondering why the harem faction wants the two zones closest to the battlefront, or rather, which of the Qin soldiers they would get to use/control if they did have that area.
my guess:
! Since that area is a vital strategic stronghold for conquering China, I guess the queen is preparing for a civil war?
-
^ You know, that part should really be in spoiler tags…
Anyway, here's summary for 403, if you are interested.
