I'm just curious, but what difficulty level is everyone choosing, and are they going with casual or classic? Personally I'm going to play on hard with classic first. I actually plan on doing an organic playthrough first where if a character dies, I don't reset the game, although I'll probably attempt a perfect no death playthrough after that. It's pretty much how I've played every fire emblem (Well, every one since sacred stones since that was my first FE, and I ahven't played any of the older ones). Although it did once get me stuck on Path of Radiance when my healer died early which led to me getting stuck on one of the next levels

Hard and classic mode. I plan to reset every time a character dies cause I can't live with myself otherwise. Even if it's like at the end of a long chapter. After that I'm goin' lunatic.
-
The game is out on the American eshop now by the way
-
I'm going with Normal Classic, as it's my first Fire Emblem.
-
Probably normal and classic. From what I saw in the demo, hard is highly manageable. but I like doing a first, simpler runthrough so I can get adjusted to new mechanics and characters and see how my early choices affect the game.
Also, I can't bring myself to choose casual and I can't afford nowadays to spend hours on a single chapter resetting after a character death. I'll leave those moments for the summer vacation.
The question I'm struggling with right now is whether to get this game in cartridge or dowload it from the eshop.
-
Got super worried at one point in chapter 3 when an archer attacked my Pegasus Knight, but agaisnt an over 70% chance of hitting, the archer missed and I managed to get through with no units lost

I started playing on normal, classic.
About chapter 3 or 4 I realized I had done the opposite for my avatar than what I wanted. I wanted to favor luck and disfavor hp, did opposite. So restarted. Was very very tempted to go to hard, cause well normal seemed to easy.
But for same reason as you I went normal again. I wish they had an "easy" difficulty so it would feel like normal is not such a pussy difficulty. But yea I'm going to play through first and then on second playthrough I will know which characters i like, thus level them and ignore others. And other tactical and strategic things. Have this whole marriage thing and children thing figured out and maybe do different, ect.
I went eshop. This like Pokemon and Mario Kart are games that i will have on eshop for sure cause when out and about those seem like games you cna pop in at any moment and play.
-
Ok, wound up getting the eshop copy since there's been delays to so many gamestops around here.
Now the next tough decision is whether to make my avatar male or female. Mostly hard to choose since I figure it affects marriages and children.
edit: went for female, I liked their designs more and it makes a cute pair with Chrom.

OK love Fire Emblem games but avoided Shadow Dragon because I heard it was terrible. This one worth buying?

Shadow Dragon is kind of the black sheep, this game is the complete opposite for the most part.

Before Shadow Dragon, I was buying every game in the series without doubt, and after playing Shadow Dragon I felt like that tradition needed to stop. So originally I didn't mean to get this one at all, and ignored most news about it.
However, after playing the demo and hearing reviews, I decided to give it a chance, and I do not regret it. It's a fantastic reentry into the series.
The way I see it Shadow Dragon was a great way for Japanese people to get hit by nostalgia, but for us it was like going back to the first entry which lacked the charm and tight gameplay of the newer versions (such as Path of Radiance.) So that was a huge step back.
Awakening is a massive step forward. -
headdesk Yeah, so apparently they fucked up and shipments practically everywhere (Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop) were delayed. So I can't get my pre-ordered bundle until Friday. Nintendo released a "we work hard to satisfy our customers" bs, yadda yadda yaddda. Dammit.
-
I got my copy from the Gamestop off campus today, though I won't be able to play it until I get home sometime tonight. The clerk said that it was the only one they had, though I don't know if she meant that it was the only one left after others came to claim their copies, or the only one period. Either way, I'm just glad I got it.
-
I got this off eshop when it came out since the stores here said they wouldn't get it until the end of the week. Donnell is ridiculously strong once you get him going (which isn't easy, granted, as you babysit him through poking mobs with 1 hp with a toothpick for a while). I've seen him get +1 to every single stat when he's leveled 3 different times. His ability that raises his chances of stat gains when leveling is untouchable. I got him to level 16 and used a second seal on him, at which point he became unquestionably my best unit. My great lord couldn't even match up to him as a level 2 fighter.
Oh yeah, awesome game though. I don't really have time to play it, but I do anyway. It's just one of those games. Like most others I'm rolling normal classic the first time through to get my legs under me. I'll do hard classic later and then… yeah I dunno we'll see but I might just quit there. As much as I'd love to conquer the forced enema difficulty, there are probably too many games and too little time to pull it off.
The whole marriage system really seems like it'll push you to focus on fighting with pairs at higher difficulties. But I can't say I'm too thrilled that the game pushes you to marry off a kid by claiming that she's like 1000 years old. She looks like a kid, she acts like a kid, she sounds like a kid, and in order to be a completionist she needs to pop out a kid of her own. Sigh. Lissa's not much better, though, and she doesn't have that age thing going for her. Dammit Japan. But I do love the gameplay aspect of the marriage system. I'm especially looking forward to figuring out how to manipulate it. The challenge for me is to make a kid that's stronger than Donnell.

Dammit dammit dammit. Gamestop tweets that my bundle will be in today. What do I get? Blizzard.
waits for the dumb jokes

I don't get it.
…....oh wait. You mean an actual blizzard and not a game from Blizzard!
-
I just beat Chapter 4. So far I haven't lost anyone, though there have been a handful of close calls. Especially with Miriel, given her toilet paper defense.
I hope bullion items become more plentiful later on, because I can foresee money being an issue as I go on.
-
It's not that you'll get a lot more of them, but rather you'll get more valuable ones. I've seen 1k, 5k, and 10k versions to this point. A single 10k bullion will pay for 4 seals, and money seems hardly needed for anything else in the normal difficulty. Weapons come and go too quickly for me to want to invest much into them.
-
I don't get it.

Yeah, we're currently undergoing THE MOST EPIC OF EPIC BLIZZARDS! Which really hasn't hit yet, but the Governor has banned all car travel on pain of 1 year of jail or 500$.
-
I like how impossible this game is to get right now. I'm not downloading a full retail title through the nintendo store, that is not happening. But I live on an island and it takes three hours to get to the mainland of the US to even find a gamestop that isn't gonna have the game in stock anyways so lol.
I'm not giving in to these $61.99 prices on Amazon too.
Darn.
-
Well, I'm glad I've got other games to keep me occupied while they sort all this out.
Sorry to all those who've been inconvenienced by it though.
-
My local FYE had copies! Some local guy bothered them so much they special ordered a lot :) Thank you random local guy.
I gotta say the 3D effect in this is incredibly cool. It's the first game I almost think I just… HAVE to have 3D on? It beefs up and creates a very nice level of depth that I never imagined could happen. It almost doesn't even feel gimmicky, it just looks so good.
-
Well, I have my first casualty, Ricken. Died on the second Paralogue. God, I hated that mission. Anna does herself no favors because she doesn't bother attacking the archers that are just sitting there within range sniping her. Ugh. Took me a whole bunch of retries, and I'm still not sure if it was worth it.
On the plus side though, Lon'qu is a critical hit machine-god of death. The bromance between him and Vaike is leading to great things. There's also no rush quite like those ''oh shitshitshitshit oh fuck yeah!'' moments during battle.
-
Holy shit Frederick is my favorite character right now. I kept hearing my friends make fun of him for being this forever alone goofball as nobody wants to romance him, or he just flat out annoys them, but I really like him. He's like a combination of a Butler and Steiner from Final Fantasy IX. He's my current top choice to marry, but I'm on chapter 2 so that doesn't mean much haha….
-
Haven't used Fredrick much, but I'll admit his first support with Chrom was hilarious
-

Do you agree
Would a peach colored blanket best suit Chrom's complexion?
-
I shelved Frederick when the game started for being an xp sponge and forgot about him. I pulled him out for really the first time last night and he nearly got one shot.
The manakete class is ridiculously strong in this game. Other than Donnel the invincible, nobody else seems to be able to really stack up. I got Donnel up to level 5 hero and and got Sol and now I feel like he could solo the game with a stack of hand axes, no potions necessary. I don't even use him for anything but the hardest fights anymore because he makes it too easy. And forget actual weapons where he's involved. In his hands, hand axes and bronze swords destroy everything I've seen just fine.
A week in now and I've seen the first couple kid paralogues, and I have to say they're the most difficult fights I've been in (except Lucina's, which isn't a paralogue). In every other fight my focus is on leveling and relationships, but those kid paralogues force me to focus more on keeping my units alive, like I was playing hard mode or something. At least Donnel gets a chance to fight during those.
Second seals were a brilliant addition to the game. They'll basically reset the leveling counter, so the RNG level up system can't screw you over anymore in the long run. You can keep dropping a character back to level 1 without penalty and level them up some more to keep increasing the stats. As a result, those stat boost items really aren't "endgame" items, so you might as well make use of them when you get them.
-
I pretty much benched Frederick too as soon as I could.
I've noticed that aside from the Avatar I haven't really had much need for the magic-based characters yet. Hopefully that'll change once I encounter people like Tharja and Henry and really start focusing on reclassing. I'm going to take a break from the story for a little while to grind on the DLC map so that I can bring guys like Gaius and Donny up to speed.
As an aside, with how much people talk about food, pies, and tea in the supports the game should be called Pie Emblem: The Bakery.
-
I'm only using Frederick because I wanna marry his dumb ass at the moment (unless someone better comes along), so I just pair him with my MC and never have him be the primary one.
I think partly it's that he's already an upgraded class? It feels wrong to have him get EXP that other people could be using, but he keeps leveling anyways. He reminds me of Seth in what little I played of Fire Emblem Sacred Stones, where he's already like a one-hit-KO killing machine, so it feels wrong when he gets any EXP at all.
I'm trying to get a lot of support stuff up too. Oh, I summoned FLORINA and kicked her ass too, as a nice EXP encounter. Thank you free DLC.
I wonder if my trying to evenly level people is gonna end when I get even more party units and don't want to try any more. I'm focusing on support anyways and the EXP just comes naturally, but … Eh! On Chapter 4 and my main party dudes are around level 5, Avatar is 6, and the lowest is 3. I kind of want to use Donnel if only because he's hilariously weak right now and I bet there's something good in the Villager class if I keep at it.
Hopefully!
Also why the hell does everybody forget Kellam? I know it's his character gimmick but when guys like STAHL are hanging out and getting attention it makes me question the validity of the universe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's just funny since Stahl is legitimately just the most forgettable thing ever, while everybody is just pretending Kellam is.
I'm considering pranking the game and marrying Kellam off to Lissa.
-
That's essentially Donny's gimmick. His Aptitude skill increases all of his stat growth rates by 20%. So once he hits I think level 15 and you reclass him to something else that doesn't have crap base stats he pretty much becomes a walking god that will emasculate the rest of the army.
I personally like Kellam since he's been a very dependable unit. Though the armor's space pauldrons and Batman and Robin armor nipples are rather lulzy.
-
While I actualy have beaten restarting a lot to keep characters alive unlike my original plan, I've still let quite a few die when they haven't been as useful or I just am not that attached to them. Kellam was one of the first units on my team to stay dead, so he's gone. Also as a little note: Marth in the dlc has aptitude as a skill, just like Donney. However, since DLC characters are pretty much treated (and in most cases just plain are) as avatar characters, they can reclass into anything you want (except opposite-gender specific classes)
-
Yeah Donnel starts out awful but takes over as your best character around the time you respec him out of villager. You can do that at 10 but he gets an ability at 15 that you might as well wait for. And by the time you push him to an advanced class he's basically a walking god. The only better character in the entire game is probably his kid, depending on how that's done. I had him marry Nowi, and they popped out a manakete that didn't need long to catch up to her mom as my second strongest unit. And I'm pretty sure she'll even surpass Donnel in time, because she levels up almost as strongly as he does, even though she didn't inherit the 20% growth ability (it seems to pass on the most recent ability from each parent I guess? Which would make inheriting the growth ability extremely difficult). She did, however, inherit Sol from him (which heals her when she deals damage), which is just unfair. I almost regret creating such a ridiculously strong trio in normal mode, because I'll want to do it differently in hard and the result will certainly be worse if I do.
I just can't bring myself to use the DLC Marth, mostly because he gets no support options at all. As much as I loved Anna when I first got her, I stopped using her right away too after I realized her only support option was me.

The Blue Dragon 3DS is mine, MINE!!! cackles

So I've pretty much seen people say this is the best Fire Emblem game of all time, so…..I'm guessing I should get it?

terrible comic…but I think this sums up your line of thought...
!
Anyway, after a whole load of love I'm seeing for this game, I am thinking of taking my money for the preorder on Luigi's Mansion and getting this…
-
So this game is nearly impossible to get, even online. I lucked out and somehow found a Target that is carrying two copies (that weren't even on the display case) and drove about half an hour to get it. Can't wait to start! Now only to find the time to play….
-
You can always buy a digital copy if you really need to
-
Got it yesterday and I LOVE it! Awesome story, awesome graphics, awesome music… And somehow, I managed to turn my avatar into a real tank! She can survive pretty much anything and when she's paired up with her hubby, she can one-shot kill pretty much anything with either the sword or the thunder tome I forged for her. Same go for her hubby, Gregor, who can survive anything and one-shot kill anything with his steel sword! And while my avatar is now a grandmaster (Upgraded Tactician) Gregor is still a mercenary... I'm probably one of the few who actually decided to marry Gregor but I really like him! He's so funny and I just love his russian accent.
-
Have barely had time to play this, but I love it. I have never been so involved with supports.
It can get really hard to plan at the beginning too. It was especially weird that I've had my avatar and Chrom hit it off since the beginning and it's such a deadly couple, and then in goes Sumia and it's obvious they're trying to bill her as the main romantic interest of Chrom. But F that, I got to him first. Although I do like Sumia's entrances in which she falls flat on her face.
Currently took a break from the main campaign to catch Sumia and Donnel up to the rest of the units. Also having difficulty knowing who to shelve, lot of monstrous characters so far. Miriam is a fiery beast that kills everything, the archer is delightful and enjoyable, and sully is amazing. And then they go and give me Lon'qu, a member of my favorite class, who is critical hitting every moving enemy.
So it's becoming really difficult deciding who to bring to battle each time. Except for Frederick, he can warm the bench for all I care. It's cute seeing new Fire Emblem players considering him a powerhouse. I guess he's no Marcus but I'm making sure he doesn't take experience away from others. -
Just beat my first playthrough on hard classic. I had quite a few allies dead by the end though. I actually beat the final chapter in just two turns through a bold strategy(it took me a few tries to do this though). It worked really well in the end and no characters died in the last battle. Now to go through my second playthrough where I let nobody die and get all the children. THis one will be much harder, since I still plan on playing on classic (Not upping the difficulty yet though).
! I liked how the ending I got actually mirrored the game's start. There are actually two endings, the methods of getting which are pretty clearly pointed out, though I heard they don't differ much. One last note, but I don't get why people complain about playing as the avatar rather than Chrom since they're pretty much equally important, and by the end I'd even go as far as to state the avatar has the more crucial role
-
Donnel is still my version of Onepunch Man, despite the fact that I never use him anymore, and the dragons aren't far behind. But I'm really starting to dig the kids. I put a little effort into trying to breed an awesome one, and three maps after getting her she's a high damage swordmaster with both Luna and Galeforce. She's already starting to absolutely terrorize things. Soon I'll be popping out another with Aether and Galeforce, but I have no idea what eligible classes he/she might offer yet. At this rate I might wind up deciding to conquer hard mode with an army of super children.
-
I've tried out the demo for Awakening, and I love it, but can't afford the full game right now. So I'm making do with finally diving into my Ambassador-gift Sacred Stones instead for the time being.
-
Maybe I grinded a bit too much or reclassed a bit too early, because the final confrontation with Gangrel was a bit anticlimactic. Chrom dodged everything the Mad King threw at him. I'm kinda reluctant to use Cherche at the moment since in my experience with this game wyvern riders have terrible accuracy, but maybe that's just the enemy AI. Libra's surprisingly bulky though - I wished I'd used him a bit more before now. Go and kick ass in the name of the Lord, you girly man you.
I'm now convinced that the 'Awakening' part of the title refers to Donny because christ, not everyone can solo the enemy flanks like he can.

Urouge, now all I can envision you is a Southern Plantation owner in a white suit and white hat, sitting on your porch sipping iced tea as your team toils in the ground harvesting super babies…

Just finished chapter 8, and it has been pretty fun so far. Its an odd experience because its been awhile since I've played a FE game for the first time, I'm going in blind as to who to use! Finally got my rotation, dropped all the magic users, cocky ax guy and unfortunately the archer. I always love using one archer and usually the one that comes at the start (<3 you Rebecca) and his haughty asshole attitude appealed to me ("I AM LEGEND" after a kill was great) but JESUS that guy had too many terrible levels for me to keep.
I went in kind of blind in this game so I'm still figuring out the pairings thing, mostly using guys I don't need (Kellam and Frederick) to boost people I'm using. Sumia became a monster after I paired her with Kellam. Eventually I'm going to need to start paying more attention to the supports and whatever the hell this marriage/kids thing is.
Story was never something I cared about to much but I have to say for "the best FE game ever" as some people are claiming the story kind of sucks. Still time to improve though. So far so fun!
-
I haven't even finished my first playthrough yet but I'm already planning to get married to either
! Gangrel or Walhart (spoiled because of "secret" recrutable characters) on my second playthrough…
-
The game must have been paying attention when I said that the fight with Gangrel in chapter 11 was anticlimactic, 'cause I nearly shat my pants when I saw chapter 12. I powered through, but lost three guys so I'm definitely going to redo that. I also need to get better gear too, since I've been incredibly stingy with money outside of Master and Second Seals.
Kellam as a General though was pretty awesome. All the enemies couldn't do anything but blunt their blades against his armor.
-
I know it goes without saying, but for pretty much all of you guys, I ask that you are careful with spoilers … I am going in clueless into the later chapters and can only play max three chapters during the week.
So if you are talking of a story plot twist, please spoiler.
-
GRAH!!! So I was on the wiki looking to see who could marry who and as I was scrolling through the page my I caught 2 MAJOR spoilers and I am really annoyed for being spoiled but also really curios to see how it all plays out.
Anyways, after playing the demo I can't wait to get this game. I just need to convince my parents to let me get another game after getting one just last week(Sly Cooper Thieves in Time in case you were wondering).
