Scream: The TV Series

As if MTV hasn't ruined everything enough already, MTV has decided that we need a Scream TV series. BEcause what makes the movies so great is totally acceptable on non HBO/Showtime television, right?

So far, they've only green-lit a pilot with Wes Craven in talks to direct, but Kevin Williamson has not be put anywhere near this project, and we all know how Scream ends up when he's not present. (Scream 3…ugh.)

We wouldn't be seeing it until summer 2014 if it gets a full order, but still.

After Scream 3 and 4, you'd think they would stop making more….

Scream 4 was fantastic, so I don't know what you're talking about there.

Yeaahhh….not a huge fan of 3 but 4 was pretty good...considering how appropiate that wes craven was directing it....the irony it iself makes it pretty damn funny.

I had heard about the TV series, but I wasn't really expecting them to actually go through with it any farther than they had. Would really rather they just made Scream 5, seeing as Scream 4 was pretty enjoyable.

Honestly, I cannot see how Scream 5 could come into fruition either. The NOTION of Scream 5 has only been explored in a few movies at the moment which hasn't really provided any material/conventions/tropes that would be noteworthy of parodying.

Just to clarify, Scream 4 is a parody of Reboots (which had PLENTY of references by the time this movie was released) whereas Scream 5 would PROBABLY have to be a parody of sequels of Reboots (I mean…where else can they go with it?) However, there is little to actually parody since Reboot sequels doesn't really exist (yet) aside from The Hills Have Eyes 2, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, House on Haunted Hill 2, Grudge/Ring 2 (a stretch) and...I think that's about it so far.

Aaannd this would be the same exact reason why a Scream TV series wouldn't work. There isn't enough source material to parody. A horror television serie...um okay? How many of these do we ACTUALLY know? (which is why movies worked better, most folks actually remember horror movies rather than TV series...).

I mean (if I had to list mainstream ones)...we got Twilight Zone, Buffy, The Walking Dead....um...yeah, do these actually have any tropes or conventions as horror TV shows that warrants a Scream TV show? I am a 80s+ horror buff and I SHOULD know more, but damn I don't even know how this could work.

To be fair, Williamson said he had a story ironed out for 5 and 6 if 4 was a success.

So if there WERE a 5 and 6…what the hell would those be about? I'm not sure how a 5 and 6 would pan out...what CAN it be about actually? (AND PLEASE...don't say "continuing the story" or whatever because that's not the right answer).

Supposedly, there wouldn't have been any specific "parody" at work. It would kind have gone Scream 2 style parody. And it would have moved to complete the tragic arc for Sid he originally intended to have close out in 3. That's what all the foreshadowing in 2 was about.

Rumor is, 5 and 6 would actually have been connected, one big overarching story. Of sorts. Each would have been its own film, but at the same time, that would have once and for all ended Sid's story.

Meh so it is a narrative based film(s)? Bah…parody is what made the Scream serie so effective in my book (ESPECIALLY in film 4...fricken perfect for Wes Craven, the guy that got his movie remade...over and over and over...).

Only thing is, I felt Craven's directing was at a series' worst in Scream 4. It just felt phoned in.
