Well it doesn't help where the Yankees play. Being stuck in a division with teams like Boston, Tampa and Baltimore does not help your chances much.
MLB Season 2013
-
-
Boston is the crazy variable though of couple of seasons being terrible now they're back with a vengeance. The Rays and Orioles I'm used to breathing down the Yankees back.
-
Just imagine if Toronto had lived up to the hype.
-
Well you know the old saying. Wait til next year.
-
I'm an Orioles fan, I lived and breathed that saying for the better part of two decades.
-
It could be worse, you could be a Cubs fan and be stuck waiting a lifetime.
-
MLB's being dickish by not announcing the suspensions ahead of the trade deadline. What happens if you are a contending team that sits pat, but suddenly your whole OF gets suspended? Not announcing the suspensions is being done to punish the teams and that's not cool.
-
Going by the A-Rod situation, I think one of the reasons that they're holding off announcing suspensions is that they're trying to get these guys in such a way that they can't appeal said suspensions. An appeal would allow them to continue playing until the appeal is heard, which would be embarrassing for MLB since it means that everyone would know that this perspn cheated but they aren't suffering any consequences for it yet.
It'll be especially embarrassing if that person's team gets into the playoffs and even worse if they edge out a clean team.
-
I've also read that that MLB's trying to time it as close to the "fifty games left" cutoff as possible, so more players might take the Ryan Braun plea deal to avoid risking a suspension running into the next season.
-
The Rangers are playing like something else lately. First that horrible losing streak (w6 scoreless innings!) and then they sweep the Angels with 3 walk off home run wins. They've got some crazy momentum behind them now, especially since they gained 2 games on the As during this series; hopefully they can follow it through and reclaim not just the West, but the entirety of the AL.

Yean and get bounced from another world series.

They really deserve a win. Considering just how bad this team was throughout its entire history until that 2010 season, they have more than earned the big win. And, since the AL finally has homefield advantage for the World Series, they actually stand a good chance of winning it if they can make it back.
-
Well you also got the Pirates who history hasn't been too kind too either. Though for all anyone knows they themselves might suffer the same fate as the Nationals did last season.
-
My Dodgers are going hard. Get on the wagon folks, I foresee greatness.

It is such a beautiful thingtelling my friends who are so called Dodgers fans that the season isn't over and then pointing this out.
Plus I have just realized I have gone to more Dodger home games this year than the previous three years combined.

HAHA yeah me too, I got all them bobble heads and more to come. I never counted them out, we were just to injured.
-
My Nationals vote on the World Series poll is not looking so great.
-
Well seeing how 3 of the division leaders and one of the WC holders aren't even on that poll it wasn't so great to start with.

I doubt it happens. Daniels was already going to phone in the season when Nelson Cruz admitted he wouldn't fight his suspension: the fact that the Rangers are so offensively challenged right now, and they're losing one of their productive OF's, spells doom for their season. Garza potentially getting suspended for going ape today against the A's won't help their chances, either.
Oakland is just demolishing that division.

If I could vote again, I'd vote for the Pirates over any other team in the NL right now. The Cards are a bit overrated because their defense is bad, and their pitching isn't great outside of Wainwright and Milller. The Reds are solid on pitching but light on offense, but Pittsburgh has everything right now. The defense sparkles, the bullpen is un-believable, and their offense is pretty good. Plus they're rich in prospects. When their SPs return from oblivion, Pittsburgh will be the team to beat.
LA is really strong right now, as expected when everyone returned to full strength. I have no idea how far they can go.
My preferred World Series winners right now (most to least):
Kansas City
Pittsburgh
Texas
Detroit
Baltimore
Los Angeles
Atlanta
Arizona
Cincinnati
Oakland
St. Louis
Tampa Bay

Suspensions have finally come out.
Fifty games for:
Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz, Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta, Phillies reliever Antonio Bastardo, Mets outfielder Jordany Valdespin, Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera, free-agent pitcher Jordan Norberto, Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli, Mariners catcher Jesus Montero, Mets outfielder Cesar Puello, Astros reliever Sergio Escalona, Padres reliever Fautino De Los Santos and Yankees outfielder Fernando Martinez have accepted their punishments handed out by Major League Baseball based on the investigation into South Florida anti-aging clinic Biogenesis.
The Sword of Damocles still hangs over A-Rod.
-
I hope MLB Video records his first PA in Yankee Stadium tomorrow. I cannot wait to hear the raucous boo's.
-
I'm pretty sure A-Rod has a haters gonna hate mentality to the boos by now.
-
I'm guessing this whole "A-Rod has speed" situation is a bunch of bullsh**. Don't know the details but I feel it scream bs all over.
-
The 15/10 score of the Boston/Houston game is so terrible yet unsurprising.
-

Oakland is just demolishing that division.
Watching the game tonight, they have found a new offense. They were stealing bases like nobody's business. I am all for a running team over a power team.
Also, the A's weren't demolishing the division when you posted that, but they're certainly not now.
-
If you want to talk about demolishing a division, look at the National League East. Not only does Atlanta currently have the biggest lead in the majors, but it's nearly three times as many games as the next biggest lead.
-
The Rangers signing Manny Ramirez really annoyed me. I've hated him since he likened his desire to play in MLB to a migrant farm worker looking for a chance to pick tomatoes in a foreign country. He's an old, arrogant man with diminished skills an addiction to the high life he can't access anymore. Daniels tempted Manny away from the EDA Rhinos (where he was a legitimate slugger again, and a hero to the team) for a minor league deal just to release him. The only ones who got screwed in this scenario were the Rhinos. A loathsome move for a loathsome 'character' like Manny. Not cool at all, even with the Rangers' situation.

Agree. However, let's try to make this a happy thread so here is Yasiel Puig throwing out another runner
-
A-Rod doing David Ortiz' home run celebration was absolutely tremendous

Miguel Tejada, already suspended for 105 games because of amphetamine abuse, has been linked to Biogenesis.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also, Ryan Braun is a complete tool.

If I was that sample taker, I would try to find out if he has any shot of suing Braun for Slandering his good name and his career

MLB to Braun: "Urine trouble, mister."
Thank you, thank you.

Worst bunt attempt I've seen :ninja:.

Too bad Plouffe went yard on him the next time he faced Darvish

I know but given how early that swing looks it might've as well have been.
-
I can't wait for the post season to begin, my Dodgers magic number at the moment is 14. I just hope the Cardinals don't get that wild card spot. I don't want to face them.
-
Bit late with this but. Mariano Rivera doesn't always blow saves but when he does it's to the Boston Red Sox.
-
Dodgers celebrated their winning by jumping in the D-Back's pool.
I wonder what the owner thought of that?

The D-Backs owner.
…
Anyway, Rangers lost to the Rays, 5-2. I felt bad for Texas. They've had to face some pretty stunning losses in the past three years, after all those years of never making the postseason. It's clear to me that the organization needs to fix something, because they not only do badly in the regular season, they can't seem to win out when their season is on the line.
Consider, this year they had to play an elimination game against Tampa Bay because they couldn't with their division outright. Despite going 17-2 against Houston. Clearly, Texas is in need of stars or talent or something. The 2011 team had three great hitters in Napoli, Beltre, and Hamilton, supplemented by two really good defenders and lead-off hitters in Kinsler and Andrus. Kinsler and Andrus are still around, but the only real threat in their lineup is Adrian Beltre.
And bringing in Matt Garza was a huge disaster, both in performance and PR.
-
^ Why is the Rangers going 17-2 against the Astros good?
-
It's not as bad as it was when the NL Central still had six teams but playing each team in your division nineteen times apiece is still a bit much. They really need to cut it down to fifteen or sixteen so that they can mix the schedule up a bit.
-
^ Why is the Rangers going 17-2 against the Astros good?
It's not. I implied that the Rangers basically padded their 2013 record with a lot of easy games against Houston. The team you saw in the playoffs was possibly the weakest of the recent Rangers playoff teams. Jon Daniels has also made some questionable decisions lately as well…I mean, extending Elvis Andrus when he has super prospect Jurickson Profar ready in the wings?
-
Yeah don't know where the Rangers were at these last few weeks I mean I can't talk given how the Yankees blew their games down the stretch but still.
-
The Reds fired Dusty Baker.

The Yankees were never in serious contention this year. That dynasty is ending. They need to rebuild with a new core.
The Reds fired Dusty Baker.
Unexpected and kind of disappointing. I suspect the Reds will probably be on the decline in the future, Baker's impact on that team can't really be understated. Bruce, Chapman, and Cueto LOVED playing for him.
