I know what you mean. I've spent too much recently, but glad I'm nearing a point where there isn't much I want outside of new figures. I'm only missing a handful of POPs now. I'm sorta regretting trying to collect all POPs, though I actually don't regret getting anything I've bought so far which is good. It gets crazy when you buy a lot of figures from different shows and also collect other crazy things. It all adds up fast!
The "wink" is not really a wink.. looks more like one eye closed… since when you wink the other eye squirls abit.. that´s just me thinking that?

Depends on how used you are to winking. Anyone used to it should be able to do it with the other eye fully open, I rarely do it and I can.
Try to imitate Zoro and just keep just one eye fully open for a while. You can't do it without exerting the palpebrae on the other eye to keep it closed, right? It just takes some getting used to. It's funny stuff, some people can only raise one of their eyebrows while keeping the other lowered, some can do it with either.
And some people wink like Duval.

Hi everyone. Finally got a good internet connection going so I can drop by here more often. Miss you guys!!! Not much going on in Australia collection wise but I'm enjoying being home. Got a lot of packages from Japan last week - all my OP stuff came!!! Now I just have to find somewhere to put it.

hey everyone! I wanted to say thank you for all the fun we had with One Piece here :) In good and in bad times.
I am taking my time off because I am exhausted and damaged inside because of a girl I used to love.
Going to heal my heart somehow. My interest in collecting stuff at the moment is gone. Nothing seems to make me happy now anymore.

Yeah I dare not look at how much I spent on figures lol. Even worse if I look at how much extra I spent on them. (customs, for figures in set that I didn't want/couldn't sell.)
Actually I think I gotten better this past year. 8 POPs (9 if you include Chopper). 4 GLX (including Robin/Olvia) 10 FAZ. About 40 WCF (this is the line that's costing me so much) and the rest are all smaller ones. Gave up on lines like the Attacks Motions, Stylings etc. And only indulge myself with other 'one-offs' like the IKs, Eternal Calender, MBH here and there.
Of course all offset by the likes of the Muppet Palisades line. Which are stupidly expensive. (Dammit! I need Sam and Zoot!) and games/consoles (3DS, Vita and Wii U in the space of a few months is waaaay too much lol)

Or just get better jobs :D I have no probs with buying alot… i spend about 2-400 euro per month and still have alot left. Last 2 months been much, ordered 50 WCF and 9 POP :D and some other small items.

! There's close to 15% unemployment here and the minimum wage is 390€. And all companies (big or small) use that crisis to offer lower salaries, close to the minimum wage, because theres ALOT of competition to get even the poopy jobs. We got people with degrees working at coffee shops and mcdonalds just to pay the bills, quite sad. And if you can get a job, to put it in prespective, the crappiest 1 room apartment in the city goes for 300€ a month. Spend 2000-4000 a month on figures? HA! not even in a year or 2! :D

You're bracing yourself for an angry mob, right? That's the kind of stuff I only expect people fortunate enough to live in a financially stable community with a job that was given to them in a silver platter to say. The way you speak also makes it sound like you have no bills to pay, which adds insult to injury.
I don't mind people living well in their little corner of happiness and financial bliss, but rubbing it in other peoples faces and saying crap like "just get more money! duh!" tends to tick me off.
Just had a couple of figures from 1UP arrive yesterday (they're great, thanks 1UP!) when I was counting cents to pay the bills this month. It kinda reminded me on how out of hand this little hobby has gone for me.

From fretting to what will happen to my figures if a natural disaster hits to regretting figures that just get thrown on the pile, I think long and hard about my purchases now. Instead of pre-ordering, I use that time to think about if I really want the item or not. By the time it's released and pictures are out, I either don't want it or want it very badly. Yet, if you let more time pass, I find 85% of the time something else comes along and I forget about what I had wanted a month ago in the first place. There's always something else. I just get annoyed when I have to pay for figures, which isn't a good sign. I mean, $100-$150 for a POP before shipping? Ehh, kinda need to pay my car insurance more. As figures get more expensive it's a lot easier to notice the dent they make in my checking account. Also many of the figures that don't make me go 'wow' again and again are slowly being sold.
I find that I wish I knew someone that collected everything, so I could see it all in person but not feel the need to own it XD It really won't kill you not to buy all the figures you want, but it will destroy you if you buy them all and can't afford it…

With each new figure I feel the need to get rid of an old one.. It's kinda sad when the biggest feeling of relief is when you manage to let go of your things!
I actually get major trepidation before I sell stuff sometimes, but then when it's gone I don't really ever think of it again (going through this with plushies, and I've got hundreds and hundreds of them and I plan to not keep any of them but…!! memories). You pull things out that you want to sell, and when you have it in your hand you remember that you liked it. I guess reminding myself that I never look at it should be enough!
I wish your friend was selling the Death Note nendoroid petits! I want to sell all mine and replace it with a single L nendo petit ^_^;;
Heh yes that is exactly the feeling! You don't want it till you go to sell it. But then you'd never sell anything because of course you only bought things you like.
Nendo petits are the only nendos for me. ;) I have Watari and Ryuk and Rem.. but no L. But he's one of the cutest.
I'm really starting to cut back now. Thankfully like Saige I've accumulated a lot of what I originally wanted, so at this point it's just picking off a few remaining old figures that I want and some new releases. I've sold pretty much all the extra figures I no longer cared about or didn't want. Thankfully I still enjoy this hobby and don't regret it at all. I think branching off from Shonen stuff in general helped, I'll still get One Piece, Naruto, DBZ etc but they aren't a primary focus for me. I'm starting to collect items from several other lines, series and companies and I find it adds a pallet of refreshing variety to my collection. This way, I never feel like my collection is becoming stagnant or just like I'm collecting for collecting sake (example, getting a new figure and not even opening the box, just tucking it onto a shelf and moving on). I make sure now that when I get something it's something that I want and not so much of an impulse buy, or an attempt to collect every single item from a series or line.
@ Kanji, I understand, you should at least get Franky though. He will be costly for sure but at this point he won't be released until around March-April so I'd tuck some cash away and consider getting him. You have all of the crew up until this point, you just gotta get Franky (cue Megahouse evil laughter in the background)

You guys are great to read!! I'm still enjoying the hobby like the first day, but I'm starting to feel the need to design a good displayer cabinet. Having all of them boxes has paid me of with the country move, but right now I feel a urge to unbox them.
However I really need to restrain myself for a bit. I've just found out that this week is my last week at my current job. So until I found another one, there won't be more preorders for me… "Luckily", they're still owning me the last 3 months, so I think I will manage for a while...

Good to see I'm not the only one going wow so much money when I look at my figures. I'm actually pretty happy with my figures. I still like looking at them and really enjoy it. When I watch or read OP, it just makes me love them even more. So at least it that regard, I have zero regrets to the point that I never plan to sell them, hence why I binned the box these days (I have no room to store stuff). I think if you can do that with no regret, then the figure is a keeper. If you plan to hold on to the box, just incase, then it's probably not really worth getting. Of course, if you're a MISB collector, then that's another story. :P
POP wise, I only need Vivi, Carue, and Neo Nami. O and the mild kids. I have laughing Robin only and not even sure if I want the other ones honestly cause they're not that great and I really prefer the GLC ones. I also don't get repaints (Well other than Garp 0, my Robin madness and Hancock Blue dress which I so totally caved in, since I'm planning to sculpt her proper cloak). I rarely get IK, GLx or FAZ figures now unless it's something I want to add to one of my mini shrines or it's truly superb. So doing really good in the don't over spend on OP figures department. I do get other figures from other anime/manga/American comics/video game. But they're generally not that great in number. It usually is about one every two months or so on average.

You're right about impulse buying. And the long pre-order time for most figures outside of One Piece series does help making that decision.
Right now I will let the temptation cooling down for a couple of days. And if within a few weeks I still want that figure, than I would pre-order it.

I agree with you Raithos about branching off.
By collecting figures from other series, we then have comparison. Suddenly I realize some POP aren't worth collecting with that quality vs the price. Suddenly I realize rather than sparing $100 for a volume of WCF, I would rather buy another awesome GSC or ALTER figure.
Suddenly I realize I can't afford to spend $300 a month for WCF, POP and Grandline Men series which are released every month. And now I can collect figures I really like, not just for the sake of collecting.
Being able to sell figures also help. I can sell any figures of my own collection that I don't care anymore at my local forum. Of course you must learn how to let go first. But that's life isn't it? Letting go the old one and getting a new one, that's what we do in life. Learning how to cope with our attachments. :)
There will be time when I need to sell all of my collections and moving on. Since I'm having a baby for a couple of months now, I think that time might come sooner than later. Priorities in life do move. :)

Yeah, but not new, I've had figure collecting habits that dates back like twenty years.
That's why I shouldn't be adding more shelves and figures, especially when I'm supposed to be saving up for a house. -_-;

You can always get those from Yahoo Auction Japan, but sadly it's usually just as expensive as the secret ones.
I collect MBH secrets, and I recently feel it's less and less worth to collect :sad:
Especially the newest "Commander Chopper" :
Not that I hate Chopper… but it's hard to spend > 5000 yen to get a small figure of crying Chopper.
Zeo would be a much more interesting secret of Fishman Island.

Damn. Commander Chopper with the awesomest roaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar ever is the secret? Damn I want him. But yeah. The prices for the secrets are too stupid. Especially considering this one where the rest of the box is largely dull.
Ah well, hopefully we'll see Commander Chopper in WCF when they get to it. Him and Smooshed Cheeks Chopper seem too good to pass up merch wise.
Funny that you guys are talking about cutting back on the figures, because so am I. Limiting myself to only those I really want, with a monthly budget or so. I need to sell off quite a few of those I can no longer afford the same adoration as a few years back when I first bought them, they deserve better imo. I just got amiami to cancel some of my orders too, although they weren't too happy about it at all. Nope, not at all.

@Valsheto - I have been trying to find a better paid job for a while now, but it's easier said than done. Also, I have a £450,000 mortgage, a wife and an 18-month old daughter to think about, so it's more a question of priorities than affordability. If I have an extra £30-40 at the end of the month, I'd rather start spending it on them then on myself.
@Raithos - you're killing me man! I do hope to get Franky eventually. Maybe i'll try and pick him up in 12 months time (provided he's been released by then

Also, i've already given 1Up non-refundable deposits for Perona, Shiyru & Teach 1.5, so since pre-orders for all 3 have closed now, I may be able to give them away and put the deposits toward a Franky instead

Also, as I was saying about putting family first, with Xmas around the corner I really wanted to treat my little girl. Must of missed this last year, but just bought her this Elmo for xmas

Just had HobbySearch cancel my entire batch of pre-orders. I was suprised how understanding they were about my plight, but guess they don't want to see me go bankrupt either, which is nice.
It's sad to see all those cancellations, but it's time to move on.

about what i've read i can tell you that i understand some people quitting, i instead am lucky enough to still be at mom's and dad's home because i'm not married yet, i just found a proper job and i'm thinking of slowing those figures buying because i have my drive test to pay and save up for a car :/
so it's understandable that some of you who have bills to pay, and a family to take care of to stop it or slow it down at least!

So yeah it's nice they got so many in. Shame that Robin's is the most fail tho. It's not even Baroque Works Croc. It's Marineford. Which is even more stupid. At least a lot of them are great poses. Also wanna point out that it's a Time-Skip all the way except the Supernova one which is pre-TS. Still the best one since the one a few years ago which had original pictures.
Edit: Just checked and Hiromi also put in a leaflet for the 'Dignity' line of OP shirts. Nothing here that I care much for but if people want a Ace, Buggy, Zoro or Croc t-shirt they might be interested. http://jig-zag.jp
You guys are great to read!! I'm still enjoying the hobby like the first day, but I'm starting to feel the need to design a good displayer cabinet. Having all of them boxes has paid me of with the country move, but right now I feel a urge to unbox them.
However I really need to restrain myself for a bit. I've just found out that this week is my last week at my current job. So until I found another one, there won't be more preorders for me… "Luckily", they're still owning me the last 3 months, so I think I will manage for a while...

Hi Im Orph, and I too have been cancelling my preorders for figures. I use to buy/preorder everything. When HLJ or HS has a box of the chara/petite on, I would preorder it. I have been collecting for the last 15 years at least.
@maggie, @behan, @Aohige, @Keithgator, @Kanji, @ Raithos: I know what you guys are saying for sure. I feel the temptation, the regret and the pain of it. I have been cancelling most of my PO due to financial stress and etc. I look at how much I spend and I am shocked.
@Cyber: Take a look at your monthly expense on figures, you will be shocked indeed. It is probably a cycle of decision...you are probably denying it right now...lol.
I am currently past the whole "despair" stage. I am coming to acept that I dont NEED the figures. It is NICE to have them, but not a need. I have a good job, and my wife supports my hobby. However, it is becoming a….hassle. Getting up to preorder and etc. I need to save for a house, pay down my car, and save money for a baby on the way.
The excitement is just not there anymore. I dont feel the same "excitement" anymore. I still remember how EXCITED I was over my first POP (the first gen Luffy/Nami/Zoro), now I dont feel the excitement, its just mundane.
I will probably keep up with the POPs sporatically, but not like the past year. I doubt it will mean anything to Megahouse or the drop in OP popularity. I think it just speaks to the economy as a whole.

Seems like we are all feeling the pain, but I like your outlook Orph. It's true that it's NICE to have them, but not a NEED. My only worry is the impact of not having a figure has on my enjoyment of the manga/anime. I remember before I picked up DX Perona, that when she started appearing in the 2 year training arc with Zoro it annoyed me that I didn't own her, to the point where I couldn't watch her without thinking, "damn, I wonder where I can get that figure from". It was the same with Law when he made an appearance at the end of MarineFord and it really got to me.
It would be like if Enel suddenly made a freak re-appearance during the current arc and became a main character. I'd be like, damn! I don't want to buy the DX, but now he's a main character again I really need to and it might ruin my enjoyment if I don't!!
I might take a break from OP in general until i've been "on the wagon" for a for a few weeks. Still haven't watched Sunday's episode yet, and luckily there is no new chapter this week.
Maybe it'd be safer to stick to series with little to no merchanise available for them in future, hehe

LOL, I am a huge fan of a comic that will probably never get any figure treatment, and I feel so down about that every day XD I look at all the shitty generic anime characters that are made into figures and wonder why is life so unfair…
a big problem is that figures have become more and more expensive. just a couple of years ago the most expensive pop like wb and bb were around 100€, now it's 130 even thanks to yen being stronger.
i used to buy tot figures every couple of months, but now i can't afford that anymore and only bought smoker faz since july.

I am proud of my collection. I look at every figure, and remember when, how and what lead to it and etc.
Its just, sometimes, other things are taking priority and etc. I wont sell my figures…

Ah guys I feel you. Seriously. However I can't really say that I've been cutting down on figures. ^^ I only cut down on One Piece merchandise. But as I said many times before … there are so many beautiful figures out there and due to me concentrating on POPs only I missed so many of them. haha Now I guess I need to make up for that. XD I guess I prefer buying figures which I adore and which present a piece of art instead of just buying them coz well .. it's a POP and I kinda like that character. ^^'' Sadly I'm spending even more money than before. XD I did make a list of all my figures and what I paid for them. Yes I could have bought a small car BUT no car is as perfect as my Alter Aegis, no car is as beautiful as my Kiriko or Sylvia and yes ... no car can be as lovely as my Menma and Enma ... ^^'' So I do not regret anything! Ha~ however, for the first time in my life as a collector, I set myself a monthly budget. :) So from now on I'll only buy what fits into that budget. ^^

@ AlinaJames LOL well, there are definitely some figures I look at and I have no regrets at all, totally worth it (Death Note resin Light & Ryuk). And the ace collection, I rarely ever think of the cost there whatsoever. But when I get some figures on impulse or I finally get one in the mail and it's not as I expected it to be, it's very hard for me not to be annoyed (at myself more than anything). Everything I buy, I want to love it as much when I receive it as I thought I would when I made the purchase (does that make sense? ahaha). You don't want to anticipate something, have it come in the mail, and dash all your hopes.
@ lello4ever yes definitely more expensive. Bellemere cost me $35 if I remember correctly. Now if they re-released her I'm sure they'd charge 7000Y+. Small prize figures that used to be 1000Y are now 1500Y. Makes you think.

I guess a lot of us are at a similar point in life, trying to save for a house, getting a better job, having kids. I'm sure children force you to prioritize, or probably make you not even care about your figures as all of you has been rerouted into loving your child ^_^.

I Really dont wanna think about the series that I'd kill to have some figures from. Xenoblade for sure, there's a big question mark over her gender but I'd kill for a Kaine (hell, some Nier merch in general would be fun.) and I always thought Eyeshield 21 got screwed over in terms of merch. I don't think I ever saw a gashapon set from that.
That reminds me. I need to find out where Riou and Chris went from my Suikoden figures :/
I'd love some Desert Punk merch, one of my all time favourite comedies.
I received the SA Chopper Kyuupin convention exclusive FAZ today, he's small but awesome. I'll take some pics tonight. Got some WCFs aswell. Everything seems to come on the same day, got 3 packages from Japan and Black Ops 2 to boot.
