Yep, that´s what he said. My guess is that shortly afterwards Luffy will become Pirate King.

I think he will. It was a promise and we know what promises mean in the One Piece world. However this doesn´t mean that Shanks will keep it himself. It is also possible that Shanks is grateful to Luffy because he kept his promise and then gives him the hat permanentally because he earned it.

Well when he gives up the hat he'll be "pirate king Luffy", and it'll be the end of the story anyway.

I think luffy will give the strawhat to Shanks and Shanks will say something like
"You've earned it, so you keep it and take good care of it or I'll be on your back"

I don´t understand this question. The manga is the original cannon, so since the original promise comes from the manga it is logic that it will be kept there first.

What I meant was if this will be a filler in the anime or still be a part of the manga or eve doesn't appear at all
Like this hipothesis :
1 - The promise still appears in the manga and Luffy returns the strawhat to Shanks this also appear in the anime
2 - The promise appears was a filler in the anime since it didn't appear in the manga
3 - It doesn't appear at all because One Piece ended when all the strawhats made their dreams come true
The question is wich of this will be the right answer
I'm hoping for the 1 one, the manga still shows Luffy returning the strawhat to Shanks

Yeah the original promise is from the manga so the returning part will also be in the manga.

I can't wait until Luffy meets Shanks! I wonder how high Luffy's bounty will be by then. I also can't wait till Usopp, err….Soge King meets his dad! It's gonna be a great moment!

yeah. and even though luffys the captain of the strawhat pirates, he wont need to keep shanks' hat. giving the hat back to shanks will give the crew more history, and personally i think it would make them even more memorable to the public as the captain would then be the strawhatless pirate captain, which would make his crew jus a little bit more special… if u noe wut i mean. yeah.

There is no pirate king at this point of time. There are great pirates like whitebeard but the saying goes that whoever finds One Piece will be considered the pirate king.

Personally I'd like to see Luffy meet up with Shanks again before Luffy becomes a great pirate/pirate king and maybe have the two crews do a mini adventure together, or something like that.

Looking at that picture on Gerusama's front page makes me wonder how if Shanks decided to make Luffy the pirate king much like Ace wants to make Newgate the pirate king.
