They'll start dubbing in May. Also, Jaime Roca asked the fans to know more about the characters and find the best people to dub them, know if they're important, etc.

Not recommending people. Just explain him about the personality of the characters so he can choose who would be better. Also, explain that this character will only appear in 10 episodes, this one the whole saga, this one will be next nakama, etc.

I guess it is pretty shameful, asking the fans, but it also helps to make the dub as accurate as possible. I mean, One Piece is still not big enough in Spain, to invest too much money I imagine, so Mr.Roca must have limited resourses to work with, so what better way than to ask info to the fans.
I find incredible this facebook group help bring One Piece back, and if this page will also help on the dub itself providing info, then i guess i'll be a pretty important site for any spanish One Piece fan…. (already liked them, by the way..)

First of all, I'm spanish. One Piece it's big enough in Spain. And Mr Roca works for one of the richest companys in Spain. The private channel whith more audience and more benefits in the country.

The same resources than you and me. Read/View One Piece. It's his fucking job. If he ask fans to do that it means he's not taking it seriously/professionally enough.

He just wants to find out about the characters, he doesn't have to read/watch the entire story before he has to dub it to do that, and it's definitely not part of the job of directing a dub (although it certainly wouldn't hurt to do that).

You really think so? I think it's essential. If you don't know the context of what you're reading you would end up sending phrases to the air without intonation and making a lot of mistakes.
And I can tell you that because I've heard the lame dub that Jaime Roca makes of Monkey D Luffy.

You do realize that generally when a foreign studio is dubbing an anime they have access to the original scripts or they have a translator make the scripts from the original material, right? So ultimately the director is going to become familiar with the original material regardless. They don't need to read the manga or watch all the episodes way in advance. Rarely ever do the voice actors in Japan even know what's gonna happen later in an anime story based on a manga. I doubt Jaime goes into dubbing "One Piece" clueless.

Invented and changed names such as Usuff (Usopp), Zorro Ronoa (Roronoa Zoro), Malhumo (Smoker), childish vocabulary. Invented attacks (Luffy never says the word Gum in his attacks and they're lame)… Usopp is now a musilm... Jaime Roca dubs 1000 characters, not only Luffy, he dubs others like Roger or Jango which makes him do a stupid voice...

I don't like it, but I respect people who do. They got what they wanted so great for them.

In Catalunya we have the catalan dub which is really good and we're in episode 405.

Because most dubs that come out are made without the staff knowing anything about the show until production actually starts. FUNimation started at Skypiea, dubbed the whole saga, then went back to the beginning. They did a great job.

I mean "One Piece" is dubbed by a big company in Spain right? Are they just not using good translations for the scripts. If I had to guess the director is probably just taking unnecessary liberties. And didn't the dub originally get cancelled because there wasn't enough money to continue it?

As far as I know, money wasn't the reason. The had licensed 300 episodes but only dubbed 195. Don't know why. The first 102 were aired in Telecinco (one of the most important channels here in Spain) but they were all censored. Then the whole 195 episodes were released in Fox Kids/Jetix and repeated the Skypiea saga a lot of times. That's all what I know. The new episodes didn't had censorship.

Now, Boing (which is owned by Telecinco) is supposed to release all this 195 episodes but people doesn't know what will happen with the censorship since Boing is from Telecinco. The ratings are great, making One Piece the best program in the channel since it's first day and now it seems the channel decieded to release more episodes so they'll be dubbing 68 more episodes, finishing 5th season, in the beginning of Enies Lobby.

I guess you're going to say that in the podcast but don't say we don't like the dub because most of the people do and we must respect that.

Probably my biggest gripe with the Spanish dub (even though I'm not from spain) is how they gave Chopper possibly the worst voice they could have chosen for him. I mean, I can't imagine taking Drum seriously when Chopper sounds like Meatwad. Moroccan Usopp is also pretty terrible.

But hey, good for the fans of that dub for getting new episodes.

But still, for One Piece to be popular in Spain as a whole, it has to be in TV, bad dub or not. The dub could get better on the new episodes, (I mean Mr. Roca is asking the fans after all) or maybe not, but as long as the audience likes it, then all the better in the long run for One Piece.

Yeah, the new episodes are dubbed and ready, we will be watching the water 7 arc, and it will end just before the start of Enies Lobby. Also, One of the moderators over at the facebook group "One Piece en Castellano" tells he was present at the recording of a certain catchy song, of a "new" mask wearing character. Can't wait to hear it….
And finally, the voice actors who participated in this new episodes, left a message to the fans, thanking them, asking to watch these new dubbed episodes, and to keep the support of the series so that more episodes can be dubbed. The cool thing at the end of the message? the "SUPER" it ends with ;)

So tomorrow, at 9;40 pm, local time, the new episodes start airing. The schedule is an episode, Monday to Friday, and it seems we get a repeat of the episode at 11:35 on the same day. What a great day for One Piece fans in Spain ;)

They still take liberties with the name of attacks, and sometimes make some mistakes with the name of the seas (they mistook all-blue with east blue) but well, the rest is fine for me, I love jonathan voice, and in 2 chapters we arrived at davy back fight iirc.

They´re taking liberties but, at the same time, they´re trying to fix some of those liberties, like when they called the Devil Fruits "Beelzebu´s Nuts", or Smoker "Malhumo" (Badsmoke). Still, they can´t change every name and attack abruptly, since kids that only know the anime would be confused, if they change things it will be slowly and from now on.

By the way, they changed the schedule this week, it´s from Monday to Thursday(movies on fridays) at 21:15, and a reair of the PREVIOUS episode at 23:10

. One Piece is definetly getting a boost in popularity in Spain. But thats not all….
Today, Arait multimedia (Spain's version of Funimation ) has announced some good news, using a video on their official YouTube page.

We are getting 52 NEW EPISODES!!! Which means all of Ennies Lobby…
The interesting part though, is that although they are going to dub 52 episodes, it seems they have bought up to episode 394. The guys on the facebook page One Piece In castellano, are still debating whether there are that many episodes or not. The video is quite confusing in that aspect. And the people over at the facebook page of Arait Multimedia, have refused to say anything more for now.
Anyways, we are very excited over here in Spain, Just wanted to let you guys know, One Piece is slowly but surely getting worldwide recognition

So the dub director (and Luffy's voice) , Jaime Roca and one of the series translators Alessandra Moura, have confessed to not be aware of any new episodes…..even though there is an offical video released about it.
Right now all of us, spanish fans, are scratching our heads trying to figure out what this all means

I just saw the news on Facebook this morning, congratulations! This will definitely be on the podcast news segment.

I'm so happy to see "One Piece" gain such popularity in Spain where it was previously cancelled for quite some time. But aren't there still a lot of places in Europe that still don't get the anime, or where it got cancelled too? I still wait with cautious optimism for "One Piece" to get more and more popular worldwide, and it's slowly happening it seems. I especially want to see "One Piece" take off in Latin America with a non-4Kids dub!

Ok, so it seems the news is that Arait Multimedia has bought 52 new episodes, so now they own 394 total. Of those 394, they have dubbed up to 263, and of those 263, the TV channel "Boing" is going to start airing on the 13 of this month from episodes 229 and upwards…

UPDATE-
Ok, so we have official news. A representative of Arait multimedia spoke in the podcast of the well known spanish site, Ramen Para Dos. One Piece is doing quite well in Boing, and has a firm fan base of watchers. Arait Multimedia has licenced 406 episodes, and 263 of those are dubbed. The rest of them are waiting to be dubbed, and for that to happen, Boing has to order them. As of now, Boing is about to premiere new episodes (the Water 7 arc) starting with episode 229.
