Few More Months: The Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Thread

Oh my god I fucking love how Spencer plays…! Definitely picking this sombitch up. Gotta work with Haggar as well; I'm also diggin' the mayor's playstyle, and wanna add him to the team.

I tend to prefer a mix of characters in my teams. One technical/rushdown-friendly character (Deadpool, Zero, Taskmaster), one heavyweight (Sentinel, Tron), and Dormammu balancing the group out as the ranged guy. I really like the team dynamic of doing that, and I tend to enjoy using those combinations much better than others (except when I pair Deadpool and Taskmaster, because yay Deadpool and Taskmaster team-up). Even then I'll usually pair them with a heavy, and have 'Pool and Tasky balance ranged and rushdown duties, since (luckily) they can do both.

Spencer/Haggar/Dormammu team coming soon...! That'll make a nice third reserve!

Sorry I didn't participate in any online battles today guys, but I just wanted to spend today in Mission Mode, getting a feel for different characters. So far I've cycled through most of Capcom (plus Deadpool), played arcade mode, and unlocked Akuma in the process, but I still have a lot of ground to cover. Hopefully I'll be able to play online a bit tomorrow night. ^^

I'd like to play you tomorrow (or I guess later tonight. It's tomorrow for me, anyway) if you have the time. I wanna see how you're coming along in this game, since it feels more your style than SSF4 was. Although I could be reading your style of play wrong, that's just the impression I got, so I'm curious.

Sure. I'll certainly be on later in the evening. And true, I'm having a much easier time picking up this game than SF, but that might also be due in part to having more fighting experience in general.

Still need to settle on some teams, though. Maybe Wesker/Morrigan/Dante. Danny-boy is more fun to play than I would have expected and he's certainly user-friendly. Hmm…

I hated Arthur at first, though I did figure out how to get around him (particularly with Dormammu). I still find him really annoying, though.

He is projectile spam incarnate. Fuck Sentinel, that's the guy who kids are gonna think is broken.

To be fair, he is the character thats obviously built around projectiles. I was honestly worried that I would find him kinda boring because of that, but he's been really fun to play. Plus his lance charge makes for a decent rush down into a combo. He also doesn't have the best speed or stamina (I think he's actually one of the weakest characters in that regard, putting aside Phoenix) so it kinda balances out.

Also Arthur wrecks Sentinel.

I'm in the same boat to, the other night there were little pockets when I'd actually forget some of the moves I could do with my main team and ended up mashing Square like a goober.

Although if you want to know the traditional set-up, it would be the three buttons on the top row representing light, medium, and strong attacks in order and the first button on the bottom row being special.

Ammy is really good. She has good normals as well as a really good full screen punish. Her assist is the best imo with Cold Star that lets you pin down your opponent for some mix ups.

So I've noticed I have this odd habit online of randomly going "derp-a-derp" and forgetting how to play. One match I'll be comboing like a motherfucker, next match I'm… well, I don't even know what the fuck. I know it's due to still learning the mechanics and all that, but it's still bizarre.

Happens to everyone dude, me especially. Most of the time, when I started getting the hang of learning and doing something new, I end up forgetting how to do it the following day, which sucks. Man I tell ya, having ADHD can be such a bitch. :(

Y'know what assist I'm finding a lot of uses for? Dormammu's Purification. At first it seemed like his assists were only okay, but that one has been coming in handy a LOT. It basically creates a wall in front of you that stuffs projectiles, has infinite vertical reach, and functions as an anti-air. It's a GREAT cover move.

Also, Spider Man's web shot assist makes me wish I used him. That assist is a nasty piece of work. If anyone here uses Spider Man, abuse the fuck out of that assist.

Anyway, after I get home from work, I think I'm gonna do a few practice runs in arcade mode with some of my WIP characters before I go online. Especially Spencer, I really fucking like how he plays. Seriously, he's like Dormammu, insomuch as one short, simple combo can wreck a motherfucker for huge damage (for Dormammu, it's Dark Matter > H Black Hole > Chaotic Flame. For Spencer it's L > M > H > Shield Breaker > Bionic Maneuvers). Also, apparently his Bionic Launcher (QCB 2A) eats through just about anything, beating virtually any projectile clean. If so, combined with his grappling and swinging and what have you, he may very well be Arthur's counterpick.

I'll admit having a lot of different game modes is actually pretty cool. SFA3 was filled with them, among them the WT you just commented. Rival Schools had a gazillion different modes (seriously: a League mode, now THAT's cool) and tons of mini-games. The JoJo psx game had the best story mode ever in a fighting game. But lately it's all about the on-line. It's ok, but. . .something's lacking.
And I miss SSF2 tournament mode to play off-line. In SSF4 it's only on-line.

This I can agree with but, if memory serves me correctly, those features were DLC then part of SSFIV as an extension of the already growing userbase.

I know the MvC3 userbase should be similar (if not larger) but if I'm to go by history, we should get it as a free patch.

Hopefully we can get a Team Battle mode there too :o

That didn't have a long list (it was before Phoenix/Haggar) and he was missing shit (although, some colors may not have references) but I recall him missing some obvious Marvel color schemes.

Loved the theory of C. Viper's alts being Rufus, Fuerte, and Abel. It worked perfectly. Though her El Fuerte alt is hideous.

EDIT: Hmm. If I have to wait this long for my turn to start online, I could easily do homework while I wait. This could be beneficial.

I believe it's already been confirmed that we'll get Spectator mode soon. Not so sure about replay, but I would assume that too eventually.

I just kind of wonder why these options weren't already available with the game's release, considering how popular they turned out to be. I know we'll get them (or at least spectator mode), but the delay just feels like something of an oversight to me. But then, I'm no expert when it comes to fighters, maybe this is normal. I'll just be glad to get to watch fights eventually, I love watching the better fighters play. ^^

My guess (and this is just a guess) is that they were SO busy trying to get the game out for such an early release (it does seem like it was not long ago when we first heard of this game) that they forgo-ed the plethora of modes and details in lieu of a nice diverse (and balanced) roster.

I'm still sure we'll get everything SSFIV has and then some though.

Otherwise I'll be equally disappointed, but the PC gamer in me is waiting for a free patch ;D.

It was an obvious fact.

Not from the very beginning (which was El Fuerte) was first shown, but seeing her third (Rufus) color scheme, it was obvious.

Ugh what an awful night for me.
