the only time Marvel really focused on Doom was after Heroes Return back in the pocket Universe and that was only for 1 or 2 books.

New issue of The New Avengers came out today, along with the Civil War collect trade paperback. I'm really digging the new Avengers though, even if it's taking forever to get the meat of the story movie. The flashbacks are interesting though, I'll give them that.
-
One thing I found cool was how Stark got his Damage Report info on Iron Fist. But it was only with the past few NA issues that I noticed what people meant about Bendis being slow. It felt like Elektra has just been hovering in mid air for 3 months.
Like last month, I felt TB stole their thunder.

@Freeman-12:
What are some good Dr. Doom comics if there are any?
Well Marvel recently did a mini called "The Book of Doom" I am not sure if it is out in trade paper back but it is basically a retelling of Dooms origin and his rise to power in Latveria. As for a classic Doom story I would pick up the original Secret War's that is Doom at his finest hour going Toe to Toe with a god and winning. Long Live DOOM. Also check out the road to civil war Fantastic Four issue where Doom fights his way out of hell. Best Doom moment ever!!!!! "COME THERE IS DOOM ENOUGH FOR ALL" Bad ass.
-
theres also that arc where he and Doctor Strange break his mom out of Hell
-
Ah, Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment. It's a must read for anyone. Definetly one of the comics a CB fan must read before dying.
-
Doom 2099 was a good one. But good luck finding that one.
-
You can always try to find torrents. I'd post a link but I haven't been able to find a website page with a torrent to those comics that doesn't have a banner that breaks this forum's PG-13 rule.
-
Haha, I had some Doom 2099 when I was like 7. I didn't like that line very much, but I did like that one.
Funny you mentioned that, mm. I just got the "Road" trade today. When I get through the rest of IM #16 (wow, what a tone this has already) I'll definitely check that out.
Oh, and before work I got through Loners. Pity they really have no space for actual development.
Yes, new comic day is all day for me.
-
For real, kids :ninja: BTW nobody bother using it as an av as I am making one ATM :P.
Gonna give those series u mentioned a search and get them. Might start with Cable & Deadpool.
I love this line: "….Captain America, OK, I salute you, Super Soldier. Will pummel you with great regret." -
Where's that from? Coverbrowser.com also helps me sometimes. Especially with older series, it helps to narrow down the issues you want.
Haha, there was apparently a preview issue of Deadpool with him attacked by the "lamest dead people" with Bucky at the front.
-
that one was FUCKING AMAZING it came with an issue of Wizard
so many throwaway characters so little time to kill em all.
-
I have that issue. Best line was when Deadpool first came face to face with the hordes of super losers. "I must have done something really good in a past life, 'cause this is early Christmas"
I also love the scene were Deadpool faces the Wheezer, commenting that he was a legend made-up to make little children laugh themselves to sleep.
"Wow, the Wheezer. I thought you were a legend made-up to get little children laugh themselves to sleep" -
MASSIVE WWH SPOILERS
!
-
I think that's just a simulation.
-
Aargh, I was just coming to post that. T_T
Awesome though. I seriously hope Hulk wins. (or at least kills Reed and judging by that pic, it just might happen ) -
Holy hell, that's from the Iron Man movie?! I just got the Marvel Legends version of his first appearance for 3 bucks at KB and I am happy with him (Got the whole MOJO set for about 20 bucks)
-
Yeah let me tell ya, Reed Richards is not being hurled into the sun.
I knew the Iron Man suit would look cool, with today's technology, it had to. The real feat will be to have Terrence Howard and Robert Downey not suck.
-
yeah Reeds got some gizmo in one of his pockets
he always has one more gizmo.
-
…and like I said it's probably a simulation. It's in a press release for the WWH Prologue, and the summary of that says something about "Hulk relives some of his old battles with the Inhumans, Iron Man, and the Fantastic Four."
And yeah, as much as I hate it, there's no way they'd kill Richards. They didn't even have the guts to have to FF break up because of the Civil War.
-

Yup hopefully the movie will stay truer than ever to the original comic or at least IronMan's origins as seen in IronMan: Extremis
-
I actually kinda hop they only graze the origin. For some reason it feels like that actually gets explored too often. Maybe I'm just tired of "first movie" obligations. But with Rhodes there they'll either do that or give him a messy origin, and with Downey in there, I know they're gonna play the alcoholic side as well.

I thumbed through the latest She Hulk, and…. god, I swear that series is the dumbest on stands today. The dialogue is so cheesy and terrible, and every issue is about She Hulk trying to get into the pants of different superhero.
Of course in this issue she slept with Stark.. ugh.
"How do you get away with sleeping around? Everyone calls me a skank, but you get called a player. Isn't that a double standard?"
I mean JESUS who writes this shit?
-

Really? I haven't read SHe-Hulk in a while, but it was pretty enjoyable. Though the sleeping with Stark thing does sound pretty lame.
-
There's another issue I looked through where she and Wolverine team up to fight Wendigo. After the thing's been taken down, she's all over the guy! She pretty much came out and said "Hey, let's go screw for no reason"
And then Wolverine goes, "I have better things to do than mess with Juggernaut's leftovers." BAM She-Hulk.
On another note, there's probably like a 1% chance anyone else will know what I'm talking about, but last night I finished Jimmy Corrigan: Smartest Kid on Earth.
-
Jimmy Corrigan is an amazing yet depressing story. I'm still trying to get into Chris Ware's other work to no avail. (I wasn't too fond of Quimby the Mouse)
I'm not up to date on the storylines, but is anyone else reading Usagi Yojimbo? It's a pretty damn good series.
-
I bought the entire first series of Usagi Yojimbo along with some of his early appearances in Critters and Albedo in a back issue bin (all for like 25 cents each).
But I'm not up to date with the current series. I liked the ones I've read though. I like Stan Sakai's artwork quite a bit.
-

Yeah, after getting through a few pages I was like "goddamn, this is depressing. I'll be pretty sad when this is done." And I was, but it felt pretty satisfying.
My main problem with is was that Ware was a little all over the place with his panels. They'd flow one way in one page and another on the next, so it'd take some adjusting to know what was going on.
The parts about Jimmy's grandpa also seemed to drag, but it was still good.
The thing reads amazingly fast. I was like… maybe around halfway-two thirds through when I picked it back up last night. Then I finished.
Interestingly enough, I read it for my Lit class.
-

I'm a huge fan of the series myself, but I usually wait for the graphic novels to get released as it's easier for me to get them then track down the comics. However I did get number 101 yesterday which had an interesting plotline. I'm interested in seeing if this will be developed further.
-
It once sounded cool to me, but then it got lumped in with Ninja Turtles and I never really looked back.
Haha for She-Hulk. I was wondering who she slept with this issue. But you know, it wasn't really necessary to start up animosity between them for WWH.
-
Actually, I only found out about Usagi Yojimbo when I was a kid because of the Ninja Turtles toys.
It was a pretty smart move by Stan Sakai to let his character crossover like that, because tons of people found out about him through the turtles.
But other than some crossover stuff, it's not related at all.

Yeah, other than both animated series and some anthology stories, the Ninja Turtles and Usagi really haven't crossed over that much. As an aside, Stan Sakai really did a great job using the Turtles in the Shades of Green storyline.
BTW, Anyone interested in getting into Usagi Yojimbo should start with The Brink of Life and Death. Usagi was moving from Mirage to Dark Horse, and this volume collects the early Dark Horse stories and is very accessible (though pretty much every Usagi trade is accessible.)

Same for me. In fact, when I first heard of the new TMNT series, I went to see if Usagi was part of the line up. It was only by reading a bit more about the character after seeing he wasn't that I learnt of his own comic series.

I finished reading Superman:true brit and I must say its very intresting for a AU comic
-
Who is that?
That's the first Iron Man armor that Tony Stark ever developed.
I wonder how they're going to handle Iron Man's origin. Ellis came up with a new origin but I haven't read Extremis yet, and they're definitely not going to use the Vietnam War.
-
^They could always use the Gulf War…
BTW Hulk 2 movie info-
Edward Norton will play the lead IIRC, and Abomination will appear in the movie as well. -

They could always use the origin for Ultimate Iron Man or a variant, say he was born with a heart condition and later in life needs the suit to help keep it pumping.
-
^Ugh I didn't like Tony's origins in Ultimate IronMan, better stick to the ol' 'heart severly wounded and can only function normally with electronic gizmo that prevents you from sleeping with women'.
-
I'm curious if the movie will have the Demon in a Bottle story. That story is good in a comic, but on film, a super hero who deals with a drinking problem sounds corny, especially if this is an origin movie and the drinking problem starts shortly there after.
-
That's precisely what I said.

.I was wondering myself who said that line.

I once read that Tony's alcoholism may actually be included in a sequel instead of the first film, but that was a while back.
[edit] According to a quote from Wikipedia's entry on the film:
"Director Jon Favreau said that the first film's plot would not deal with Tony Stark's personal problems, such as alcoholism. Favreau noted that if there were sequels, Tony Stark's personal problems would be explored." -
^Kinda sucks, but I kinda understand why they would do it in a 2nd movie. Maybe in the 2nd movie he will undergo a depression of sort?
-
Looking at some online mentions of New Avengers, it appears I wasn't the only "smart" guy to guess that Ronin could be Orson Randall. Or Daredevil. Or Bucky. Or Fury. Or…...Falcon.
-
What would Deadpool Do?
-
…ROFL. Especially the vegetarian part.
I reread a lot of my old Spiderman comics. I have to say that the stories with Osbourne as the Goblin are the best. Green Goblin is definitely the best Spiderman villain. When I was young it was always Doc Ock and Venom. But specifically the Night Gwen Stacy died, the 3 parter Drug issues, and Norman's origin with him finding out Spidey's identity are some of the best issues that Marvel ever produced.
-
You gotta love Deadpool. Personally, I am looking forward to World War Hulk. All the destruction, and Reed Richards will finally get what coming to him.
-
I loved Hulk as a kid, and I'm excited for WWH, but really, only to see what everyone else does during the storyline.

The thing about Spidey is good issues are great issues, but are actually few and far between. Late 60s and early 70s were mostly just shitty gimmick villains, Michelinie's 80s issues had that Mcfarlane on them, and the 90s were just three or four bad ideas strecthed over a few years. And that's just the Amazing line. I'd really only stick up for Lee, Conway and…..uh....Stracynski.
Norman Goblin issues were usually always a win, though.
-
An old Spidey villain I never really liked was Mr. Big of the Enforcers. I never was a fan of them.
Did anyone read Spiderman Reign? It is kinda like Dark Knight Returns but with Spiderman. In it Spiderman is very old in a New York city that is similar to Nazi Germany but with superheroes and masks not being allowed. J. Johna Jameson is alive and preaches to young children about the mayor and how the bells would protect them. He then asks Peter to come back which eventually he does so.
I personally liked Sandman in the story. He rocking the girl while she died was very sad. That is why Spidey 3 will work: an tragic Sandman. -
Sandman had some amount of tragedy in the first place, but I personally like him as just a super goon. I love when, in his first appearance, he tried to force a random principal at Pete's school into giving him a diploma.
Reign sounds somewhat interesting, but I didn't take that leap.
! 1. Radioactive semen killing MJ?
2. Venom?
3. I wasn't TOO crazy about DKR in the first place
