Sorry, I'm just addicted to DP XD-
DeadPool vs. Wolverine (It's actually Ilaney's comment in the middle of the page that's the main highlight) -
Aren't we all addicted to the merc with the mouth?
-
So what're your thoughts on Agent X? I was reading it and TBH I don't like Hayden even if he has some DP in him, he's nothing like the real deal.
On other related news, Taskmaster seems kinda badass; he can replicate just about ANYTHING his adversaries can do and use it against them. I liked how he appeared in the first DP issues over the 4-issue one UDON worked on.
Speaking of DP, Constrictor's hilarious I've yet to see someone who can bitch as much as he can XD.
-
So I'm real surprised that nobody's talking about One More Day and how shitty it ended.
-
@The:
So I'm real surprised that nobody's talking about One More Day and how shitty it ended.
Since I only follow DC I haven't read it, but from what I can tell the whole thing is just a giant bollocks move on Marvel's part. I mean why sacrifice over 20 years of character growth and character development, and all for what, so Peter can be the more iconic mainstream version? Sorry, I thought Ultimate Spiderman (and the million other Spider books on the market) was supposed to do that. Why have an entire line dedicated to revamped more mainstream versions of the characters, when you're just gonna go and make these abrupt major changes to the main continuity?
I wouldn't know first hand, but it seems like Queseda is one shitty editor in chief.
-
^Perhaps that's why no one's talking about it :ninja:
-
It's fun seeing him try to spin the thing in interviews though.
Quesada interviews are great. They're so air-heady and sugary, it's like the man lives in his own little universe.
-
OMD was poorly done, but I'm no less inclined to read ASM than I ever was. Despite being so popular, Spidey's stories were never the best, but I'll give Brand New Day a shot. Because really, I don't give a shit about the marriage, and I find it funny that geeks elsewhere are shitting themselves in fury.
So for January, new Captain America, new Spider-Man, new Hulk. I can get with it.

Joe Q interview about One More Day.
some of the funnier bits
For starters, you’re talking to a guy that feels that a married Peter Parker isn’t the healthiest thing for the franchise since it ages the character. There is no way on planet earth that I could let him to have kids, Marvel almost made that mistake several years ago. And there were further implications of the story that were out of my comfort zone. First, it was the dealing with the repercussions of Peter and Gwen having unprotected or careless sex out of wedlock. Second, it would be dealing with Peter having kids out of wedlock; while, of course, he wasn’t aware of having had them, there was always the possibility that the media could spin it that way. But in the end, it was mostly the idea of Peter having kids that I just balked at.
All right. Now, instead of having to build up this pact with Mephisto to dissolve the marriage, why not just divorce them?
Sure, that would have been a very easy solution. However, how would a parent feel when they had to explain to their kid that Spider-Man just got divorced from his wife? How would that headline read across the AP or on USA today? The same can be said with an annulment. Sure, divorce is a reality of life, but Peter Parker and Spider-Man are not the types of characters that would do that. Spider-Man is a worldwide icon and is considered one of the good guys, like Superman. There’s always the option of killing off MJ, but over the years way too many key characters in Spider-Man mythology have been killed off. Much like the marriage, those deaths hurt the book. The Spider-Man books were better with Harry in them, as well as Norman. Also, how much older would Peter seem as a widower – yikes! -
Man, fuck you Joe Q. Harry's death was appropriate. Bringing him back just kills it all. Ugh. I was kinda irked when they brought Norman back from the dead, but I can live with it. This is just stupid. I'm on safari, motherfucker. SAFARI
"Yikes!"
Save for the judge, Joe Quesada. Your cutesy remarks can't help you now, sausage-fingers. -
-
…so Peter's unmasking is gone. That's pretty good, I guess.
But they brought back Harry. What the hell? That is complete and utter bullshit.
-
@Anime:
…so Peter's unmasking is gone. That's pretty good, I guess.
But they brought back Harry. What the hell? That is complete and utter bullshit.
More like pretty GAY I guess
It would've been alright to undo the unmasking if it was in a remotely reasonable way. i.e. not making a deal with the FUCKING DEVIL OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE
I mean Joe Q want to make Spider-Man a "young" and relatable character but let's face it, if MEPHISTO is your solution to fuckups and you don't take accountability for your fuckups then who the hell would want to relate to you?
All this did was add Spider-Man into the same "ageless" philosophical dilemma as Superman. A prime (hyuck not intended) example.
-
Joe Q: "I don't like that he's married….......let's completely defeat the purpose of the Ultimate line, and the numerous other Spidey books out there, and do something that'll piss off alot of people."
And Harry back from the dead? lame
-
Who the fuck cares about Harry
go watch Spider-Man 3 if you love him that much
-
JMS chimes in on the whole thing its towards the bottom of the article but what he says is pretty spot on: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=141756
But there are some vital omissions in the interview, including the primary reason I finally threw up my hands on the book, which had mainly to do with how the resolution was handled.
To explain, here's the conversation I had with Marvel, in sum:
"So what does Mephisto do?" I ask.
"He makes everybody forget Peter's Spider-Man."
"Uh, huh. So Aunt May's still in the hospital –"
"No, he saves Aunt May."
"But if all he does is save her life and make everybody forget he's Spidey, she still has a scar on her midsection."
"No, he makes that go away too."
"Okay...:
"Then he wakes up in her house."
"The house that was burned down?"
"Right."
"But how --"
"Mephisto undoes that as well."
"Okay. And the guys who shot at Peter and May and were killed, they're alive too? Mephisto can bring guys back from the dead?"
"It's all part of the spell."
"And Doc Strange can't tell?"
"No,"
"And the newspaper articles? News footage?"
"Joe, it's been forgotten."
"I'm just asking is that stuff there or not there?"
"Not there. And Peter's web shooters are back."
"Is this the same spell or a different spell?"
"Same spell."
"How does making people forget he's Spidey bring back his web shooters?"
"It's magic, okay?"
"I see. And Harry's back."
"Right."
"And Mephisto does this too."
"Yep."
"So is Harry back from the dead, or has he been alive? If they ask him, hey Harry, what did you do last summer, will he remember? And the year before? And the year before? If he says they all went on a picnic two years ago, will they remember it?"
"It's --"
"Because if he now has a life he remembers, if he's not back from the dead, then you've changed the continuity you said you didn't want to change. Those are your only options: he was brought back from the dead, and there's a grave, and people remember him dying --"
"Mephisto changes THEIR memories too."
"-- or he's effectively been alive as far as our characters know, so he's been alive all along, so either way as far as our characters are concerned, continuity's been violated going back to 1971.
How do you explain that?"
"It's magic, we don't have to explain it."
And that's the part I had a real problem with, maybe the single biggest problem.
So he wanted to retcon Sin's Past too. This should have been retconned instead of the marriage.
And a preview for Brand New Day:

I love how Joe Q. was the same guy bitching about Dr. Strange being used as a deus ex machina
-
Spider-Man just went to shit. Good job Marvel!
-
All this talk about Spidey and Harry Osborn just made me post this…when Spidey was at his 'prime' in the 60s-
!
-
It's funny that JMS was pretending he doesn't suck.
-
whoa whoa whoa
I hadn't heard anything about this one more day stuff until now so let me get this straight
Peter makes a deal with Mephisto to act as a Deus Ex Machina for all the bonehead moves he made during the Civil War, and for some reason Harry Osborne is alive agin?….........
-

Well the deal was to save Aunt May's life. In doing so his Civil War unmasking was fixed, his marriage to MJ was erased, and yeah Harry is back for some reason.
-
Normally I wouldn't say something like this, but
Aunt May should have died. Plus I really don't see what purpose she could ever serve anymore in the stories.
-
Here's my thing, what's gonna happen with New Avengers and the Skrulls? Let's hope Marvel as a whole stops counting Amazing as cannon for the time being.
-
@AWB:
Aunt May should have died. Plus I really don't see what purpose she could ever serve anymore in the stories.
She has to serve as the financial support of Peter, since apparently he is more relatable to people when he's a deadbeat.
-
People have been wanting May's head since the '60's. You can see people bitching about it in the lettercols.
It's ridiculous enough that she's still around, but now that she doesn't even know Peter's Spidey anymore, she's pretty much a completely worthless character again. We'll have to go back to hoping that some kind soul will take pity on the readership and put the old bag out of her misery.
Seriously, it's because of shit like that that the character will never, ever change or grow.
-
damn I liked Green Lantern 26 for 1 single reason
!
I love it when the villains win
-
I was thinking earlier, and I thought it was kind of weird/disappointing that more Earth-based villains weren't in the Sinestro Corps.
I mean if BATMAN can get offered a ring why not the Joker?
Then again I guess they didn't want to steal other titles' thunder.
-
Joker with a Power Ring…......
Luthor would also be an interesting choice
-
I don't think Luthor's really a huge instiller of great fear, since he still has to have good PR as a businessman.
He's just a dick.
-
doesn't necessarily have to be yellow now though
-
Yeah.
He was the first person to come to mind when they talked about the Orange Lantern.
Though he doesn't seem like he's SUPER GREEDY enough anyway
He's mostly just a rich asshole
-
@AWB:
Aunt May should have died. Plus I really don't see what purpose she could ever serve anymore in the stories.
Agreed. As much as I love my mum, I would never chose her over the love of my life so I can't say I agree with Peter's decision. I really doubt May wanted Peter to give up his marriage for her.
Seriously, it's because of shit like that that the character will never, ever change or grow.
I completely agree. I was actually enjoying the last few years of Spidey comics. I felt the character was going in some new, potentially interesting territory. I loved the idea of Peter and Spidey becoming one as he was becoming a bigger part of the heroes community, May learnt Peter was Spider-Man and the unmasking. I also felt the new powers had potential for something interesting. Course I must be the only person as it seems everyone else in the world thinks he needs to be stuck in some Groundhog Day style Time Loop that's based around the 60's and 70's. Having said that though, I wouldn't mind to much if Peter develops a more serious relationship with Black Cat.
I seem to have a nack for liking ideas no one else does. I loved the idea of Ult Peter x Ult Kitty. I felt it was the best thing to happy to the Ult Spidey comics. I loved the Deadpool arc and was looking forward to more like it. About 15 odd comics after this relationship appears, Peter is back in MJ. And the more I read of the Sentry, the more I grow to like him. His comment to Hulk about "letting his full power out more often", the way he tried to rip off the female Ulton's head and the preview where he's meant to have some kind of mental break down when he ends up stuck in the past in a future issue of Mighty Avengers makes sound like he could be a very interesting character. I loved what I read in the "Marvel Knights: The Sentry" and "Sentry: Reborn" graphic novels. However everyone else just sees him as a Superman rip off.
-
I dunno which is sexier-
DeadPool in the original 60s Marvel Girl outfit or DeadPool in the Ms. Marvel one :/
Then again DP has always been sexy despite his disfiguration.….and Blind Al>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Aunt May

http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/Spider-Man/BND/StatusQuo.html Behold the changes of OMD! Thank god that Gwen is still dead, but this is so retarded, especially the Civil War crap.
-
Fuck man, what a way to screw over the last 20 years of writers.
-
Bastards! They could at least keep Gwen alive and make me happy!
One day… one day Gwen will come back and all will be right...
-
They'll bring her back and it'll turn out that Doc Ock raped her too and she had a daughter that looked just like her
-
Yay… Even some of the classic Spidey angles I liked (him and Daredevil being good friends and knowing each other's identity) have gone. I'm interested in seeing how BND turns out, but I'm hoping in a few months time they'll retcon this change.
-
Sinestro handed those rings out to people capable of "instilling great fear", right? So why didn't the Scarecrow get one?
I-Mockery's Protoclown does the single best summary I've seen so far as to why the whole "One More Day" concept is completely idiotic.
@Tales:
They took a mature and growing character twenty years backwards because Joe Quesada didn't think he was "relatable" to his readers (who at this point are mostly adults) anymore. They've done everything short of having him back in diapers in their effort to make him seem younger again. But it's actually just pathetic that he's now a thirty-something guy who's never moved out of his aunt's house (although maybe that does make him relatable to many readers).
The problem with that argument is that for eight years now you've had Ultimate Spider-Man for your young, unmarried Peter fix. Alternate continuity, teenage, unmarried Peter Parker. Not to mention Marvel Adventures Spider-Man and Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, aimed at younger readers and girls, respectively, and feature a younger, unmarried Peter Parker. The nice thing about the "core" universe book was that it was actually different by having a married, more mature Peter. But now that's gone, and all we have left are heaping servings of the same old shit, no matter which "flavor" you go for.
Quesada also didn't want Peter to get a divorce because that wouldn't be a good example for the children. IN WHAT FUCKING WAY IS MAKING A DEAL WITH THE GODDAMNED DEVIL MORE ACCEPTABLE?? Not only that, but pretty much every character along the way told Peter that altering reality was a bad move and pointed out the precious nature of true love. So now our "hero" Peter comes off as not only immoral, but a complete fucking moron for making what everyone else could plainly see was a horrible decision.
-
Sinestro handed those rings out to people capable of "instilling great fear", right? So why didn't the Scarecrow get one?
Shit
Why didn't I think of that either?
-
I guess it's because the Scarecrow's something of a joke villain-wise thanks to things like The Superfriends lingering in our heads, but damnit, how could it not work as a concept?
Not giving the Scarecrow a Sinestro Corps ring is like having a Fish Telepathy ring and not giving one to Aquaman.
-
I think it could be somewhat justified as Batman villains seeming to not really worry about bigger scale things, and not wanting to answer to anyone else.
Of course the fact that a year ago every fucking villain was a part of the goddamn Society blows that excuse out of the water.
And I don't really think Scarecrow's considered a joke due to residual Superfriends effects- at least not nearly on the same scales as Aquaman and Grundy.
-
Most of the comics I read are American. Here's a bit of a list:
- Sandman and a lot of others by Neil Gaiman - also like Stardust
- Various works by Alan Moore (From Hell, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Watchmen)
- Fables (pretty much the only ongoing american comic I read nowadays)
- Planetary (a great one by Warren Ellis)
- Sin City
- Bone
- Lucifer (Mike Carey - this is pretty heavy stuff, but I do like the mythos)
- Frank Miller's Dark Knight returns
- American Splendor
I used to read a lot of X-Men, Spiderman etc. when I was tad younger, but I just couldn't keep up with the plots anymore. However, I did read the Civil War arc recently and it was quite good.
-
So remember kids "With great power comes great responsibility" except of course when your close personal friends with the devil
-
So I read this Sam and Max comic I got the other day, shit is fucking hilarious.
-
I-Mockery's Protoclown does the single best summary I've seen so far as to why the whole "One More Day" concept is completely idiotic.
I think it's a pretty shoddy argument, but eh. I sure had a shit ton of fun listening to GROWN MEN in my comic shop yesterday rant like that. One of them was even the guy at the register, and he gave me a pretty mean look when I bought 3 copies.
Some pretty good comics came out this week, I haven't had much time to read them.
-
@Freeman-12:
So I read this Sam and Max comic I got the other day, shit is fucking hilarious.
Oh yeah. Sam and Max is one of the best. I love the opening page to each story because Steve always adds so much to it. I love how the duo sometimes forgets which one is which.
"Wake up, Sam.. I mean, Max"
The cartoon was fun too.
