haven't played a lot of FF but:
FF VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XII
I am currently playing FF9, which is prob. my fav. FF of all time.
…and for all your FF needs-
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com
The info in it seem rather accurate.
Also quit hating on classic games kids :V
I Own:
Final Fantasy I (Dawn of Souls, GBA… not the awful PSP ports)
Final Fantasy II ( " ")
Final Fantasy III (NDS)
Final Fantasy IV (GBA, NDS, PSX)
Final Fantasy V (GBA, PSX)
Final Fantasy VI (GBA, PSX)
Final Fantasy VII (PSX, PC)
Final Fantasy VIII (PSX, PC)
Final Fantasy IX (PSX)
Final Fantasy X (PS2)
Final Fantasy XI (PC)
Final Fantasy XII (PS2)
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA)
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP)
Final Fantasy VII - Dirge of Cerberus (PS2)
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (NGC)
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Ring of Fates (NDS)
Final Fantasy XII - Revenant Wings (NDS)
Final Fantasy Advent Children
Final Fantasy Advent Children - Complete
Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within
Final Fantasy Unlimited 1 - 7
....I have a feeling that some things are missing from that list but no worries.... thats most of it.
Now time for a bit more controversy.
For me, IX is by far my favourite Final Fantasy game. It embodies everything that truly made the series great instead of stepping into too much familiar Sci-Fi territory.
...That said, despite it not being my favourite, I will still argue to the ends of the earth that the best game EVER made is Final Fantasy VII. The technological advancements, story, gameplay and longevity really raised the bar, not just for the Final Fantasy series.... not even just for the RPG genre, but for the future of gaming itself.
Many people will say that VII is overrated but to be quite simple, no, its not. It deserves all the praise it gets and more. The worst aspect about it are its "fans". You know the ones. The OCD ones that refuse to believe that any other games exist. The ones that make countless AMV's of clips from it to Linkin Park songs or whatever radio friendly "nu metal" is "cool" at that time.
What I will say as far as overrated goes though is that, for me.... IV and VI really have never had the impact on me that everyone kind of makes me feel I should have had. IV is bland and repetetive with a piss-poor story to boot and VI has terribly one dimensional characters and is just so boring. Instead of playing III or IV, I've always found that V was the best of the "classic" series. It pretty much perfected the job system, had great characters and had a really interesting story to boot. It's just a shame this one gets forgotten or overlooked an awful lot
The worst in the series, are without a doubt I, II, VIII and XII.
IX>VII>V>X>VI>IV>III>I>XI>VIII>II>XII
X X2 XII
I started Tactics a few months back been too busy to get further thru it.
I actually sort of lost interest in FF series after 7, though I did end up getting X. Didn't like XII much.
FF I
FF II
FF III (VI) <- My favorite in the series
FF VII
FF X <- Pretty good I guess
FF Tactics
FF Tactics Advance <- Didn't like it
FF Tactics Advance 2 <- liked it more than FFTA
FF III (DS remake) <- Didn't like this one much
FF IV (DS remake) <- Enjoyed this one though. I was surprised, since I haven't really been into FF since a long time ago.
If FF XIII turns out to be any good, I will probably pick that up as well. I'm getting pretty big FFVII vibes from it, and it's not just because Lightning is just Cloud if he was actually a girl. The game just seems like it's going to be a lot like it. Maybe it's the train or something.
I am currently playing FFII and it is not that bad.
And FFVIII is the best.
My list of FF games…
FFI&II: Dawn of Souls (GBA)
FFIII (DS)
FFIV (GBA)
FFIV: After Years (VC)
FFV (GBA)
FFVI (GBA)
FFX (PS2)
FFX-2 (PS2)
FFXII (PS2)
FF Crystal Chronicles (GC)
I played the first few minutes of FFIV: After Years, but I'm really gonna start playing it once I finish World of Goo.
But yeah, Final Fantasy rox. This and Kingdom Hearts are the only reasons I would buy a PS3.
You started the flame war you fool !
VI>X>IX>and the rest is identical
This sounds about right
Seriously, everyone should play VI before dying. But IX and X also left a big impression on me.
VII is pure, overrated angst.
Geez, already with the "which Final Fantasy is the best" arguments? :P
These are the main Final Fantasy games I own:
I (PSP; currently playing)
II (PSP)
III (DS; final boss making me cry)
IV (GBA, DS; finished)
V (PSX, GBA; currently playing GBA ver.)
VI (PSX, GBA)
VII (currently playing)
VIII (I started it a long time ago, but didn't get far; will restart eventually)
IX (finished)
X (finished)
XII (finished)
Out of the ones I've finished, XII was probably my least favorite. It was alright and I personally liked the battle system, but the story and characters were not as engaging as some of the other games.
X will forever be precious to me, being the first Final Fantasy I've played and having one of my favorite video game ending.
IX was just great; loved the story, characters, setting, everything. Same with IV.
This whole which FF is the best thing is BS; overall, by the end of the day, and for the most part we all like the FF series and we enjoy playing it.
Honestly you kids these days.
I am currently playing FFII and it is not that bad.
Which system are you playing it on?
Because from what I understand II on the PSP really REALLY improves the balance over any previous version.
;P .
Bad choice of words I guess, I was leaning towards how 'better than the other' or 'liked more than the other' or the likes
…but yeah FF9's my fav. but I still forget some stuff about it
Same here. I used to know someone who spent 3 weeks at the beginning of the game trying to become a rope skipping champion.
I forgot ive played FF adventure III and Legend II
i havent played DOS yet due to every copy freezing my DS

DoS?
Also aren't FF Adventure and FF Legend the English name of the Mana and SaGa series?
DOS is FFI & FFII on a GBA cart with extra stuff.
And yeah, FFA is secret of mana(the snes games is actually secret of mana 2), and FFL is SaGa 2.
DoS?
Also aren't FF Adventure and FF Legend the English name of the Mana and SaGa series?
Dawn of Souls.. the FFI&II GBA game.
i never played it.. i have to buy a copy once they arent 30.00 a game.
the rental ones were making my system freeze and screech
not sure about the SaGa and mana thing.
Ah DoS. Well if you can't run an original copy maybe if you used a special cart with the ROM of the game in it, it can run on your DS.
Anyway I've played DoS for the GBA-
FF1 DoS is greatly different than the original and PSX remake; the level up system, for one, has been changed so that you level up faster and you can reach Lvl. 99, I believe the magic spells were also changed as well.
Dunno about FF2 DoS, but the PSP ver. is prob. the better ver.
Which system are you playing it on?

Yeah that's the one i am playing it on now. I used to have Dawn of souls too, i beat FFI, but never got around to II simply because it was a pain. Now it is pretty good in my opinion.
So I started to play Final Fantasy IX again because I never finished it and I noticed how awful the trance system is :(.
anyone play FFIV:the after years yet?
it looks cool from the video of it i have seen(although the Octo is back lol)
viii is my fave ff. i love the card game thing
Currently in Disc 3 in FF9 and am about to enter Ipsen's castle, I'll get all the Chocographs, but I won't fight Ozma til Disc 4 (or after I've beaten the game), learning much or just about every Ability in the game can take some time….

That's exactly where I am too. I just got my gold chocobo!
Where did you get your avatar, by the way?
It's a fanart, here is it's original size along with other Freya fanarts-
http://img188.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=freya1u.jpg
Gonna go into Terra soon, that or try to find Chocobo Air Garden and finish off the Digging Sidequest.
Also don't forget to kill 100 Dragon enemies and buy any 1 of the equipments from Daguerro and E. Gaza if you missed any.
What will killing 100 dragon enemies do?
What will killing 100 dragon enemies do?
If you've killed a 100 dragons, then Freya's Dragon Crest attack will always do 9999 damage (it's formula is # of dragons killed^2).
The hard part is actually getting into a battle where you face 2 or more dragons.
Your best bet is fighting in the area between Lindblum and Gizamaluke's grotto's entrance since you can fight 2 Serpion dragons sometimes. However you will not face this enemy in Disc 4, leaving you with having to fight Grand Dragons (or Worm Hydras which can be fought in some forests in Disc 4) @_@
Although you don't have to do it, the attack can be very useful up against bosses and some enemies.
I've only played VII, VIII, half of IX and X. My favorite so far are VIII and VII.
FFVII had so many things and I loved the amusement park with the scary hotel, and it seemed to me that it had more minigames than the other FFs I played.
X's blitzball was addictive once I got the hang of it (which took me a while to understand) and I loved getting new players. It was sad when I played the game again after some time and I didn't remember how to play blitzball.
I liked the card game in VIII and the secret card game society (though I lost more often than I won) and stuff but I never quite understood the card game in IX :/. I didn't like FF IX that much either but maybe that was because I didn't play it thoroughly, now I'm on vacation I'll ask me bff to lend it to me again.
I get it many people disliked the junction system in VIII but I personally loved it. I could spend hours there trying spells and stuff (memory is a bit foggy since it was a long while since I last played it) and I loved the music! And the Summons! Though I somehow liked more the VII summons. The story was very nice too and the school!!! I loved the school!!!
I've been replaying a few recently, and alot of stuff isn't like I rememberred it. For all his emo bitching, I forgot that Squall's whininess was an actual character flaw that the storyline pointed out he needed to get the fuck over. I got lotsa respect for any plotline that involves "getting emo boy to buck the fuck up." Plus, that card game is stupid fun. I keep getting sidetracked by it, just playing the ever-loving fuck out of it. I swear, Triple Triad needs its own ganme. I would totally buy it.
Also, Sephiroth's alot cooler than I remember him, and I'm kinda wondering where the hell this whole thing with him being "emo" came from?! Guy reminds me of Enel more than anything, just replace "God" with "higher life form." Plus, didn't he spend his entire appearance in Advent Children with a big ol' smile on his face? Not only that, he killed Aerith, and I did not like Aerith at all. Do you all know how many series I've watched where I wished the cool main villain would just drop in and kill some bitch I can't stand?! FF7 actually did that! That's awesome! Thank you, Square!
Yeah, Seph-O's pretty damn cool, if I do say so myself. Shame about his fanbase, though…
Of course, he's no Exdeath. ;)
I swear, Triple Triad needs its own ganme. I would totally buy it.
Its funny you mention that because in Europe, Tetra Master (the card game from IX) actually got its own real-life game.
I remember not being able to figure out how the hell Triple Triad worked, but then again, I've yet to actually play the VIII now that I'm older, higher attention span, and not have to share a save file with brother.
I understand Triple Traid perfectly but I suck a Tetra Master -.-.
Ah, Dead Fantasy III - V is coming soon :)!
cant stand Triple Triad. Rule at Tetra Master.
Ah DoS. Well if you can't run an original copy maybe if you used a special cart with the ROM of the game in it, it can run on your DS.

Nuh-uh…. I thought that the DoS GBA ports were fart better than those awful PSP versions. Really really couldnt get on with them in the slightest. Not to mention the rip off price they go for.

yes, shame about his fanbase indeed. But for the most part I agree that Seph was a pretty memorable villain. To me, he's no Kefka, but he did his job and didn't bore me.
It's hard to think about ff7 without thinking about it's shitty shitty fanbase though. But the effects linger. I really don't have any idea why or when the kids started calling all the characters from it "emo". But 10+ years ago (when ff7 was important) people weren't even saying that word.
cant stand Triple Triad. Rule at Tetra Master.
Nuh-uh…. I thought that the DoS GBA ports were fart better than those awful PSP versions. Really really couldnt get on with them in the slightest. Not to mention the rip off price they go for.
Well that's S-E overpricing some of their games :P
I think I can find both games for under $40 over here.
What was wrong with the PSP ver.? They seem like the GBA ver. but with better art?
Just plays terribly and full of graphical glitches from when I played it. Didnt like the music engine either.
Dunno, just didnt sit right. There was a comparison thing on youtube a while back that showed all the problems with it but I can find it at the moment
Now I remember why I never finished Final Fantasy IX :getlost:!
Trance and stealing!
Not only I can't decide when to use my Trance:wassat:, then they aren't even useful (Quina, Garnet):getlost:.The stealing rate is far too low and stealing is so fu****g important in this game. The fights against the Antilion and Lani today taked 2 damn hours together because Zidane sucks at stealing!
But I love anything else in this game but those two points …
Stealing is a bitch in FFXII too, one of my few faults with the game.
Man, this whole thread reminds me that I really need to finish XII and Tactics A2.
This was posted over at NPC the other day, and I just thought I'd like to share:
http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/6848/46a1bff4d26c4d9f75a536a.jpg
Were those actually drawn by the different manga artists or just people (person?) imitating their styles? I'm thinking it's the latter….
Either way, it's pretty cool! I like Bartz and Tidus the most. XD
Don't understand the last two panels.
Were those actually drawn by the different manga artists or just people (person?) imitating their styles? I'm thinking it's the latter….
Yup.
And "Murata's" FFV drawing is my favorite to.
As for the last two panels, the Yuna, Rydia and Garnet one is supposed to in Kentaro Yabuki's (Black Cat) style and the last one by Hideki Sorachi (Gin Tama).
For those who can't tell…
FF1: Hara Tetsuo (Hokuto No Ken)
FF2: Konomi Takeshi (Prince of Tennis)
FF3: Oda Eiichirou (ONE PIECE)
FF4: Obata Takeshi (Death Note)
FF5: Murata Yuusuke (Eyeshield 21)
FF6: Araki Hirohiko (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)
FF7: Kishimoto Masashi (Naruto)
FF8: Kubo Tite (Bleach)
FF9: Amano Akira (Katekyo Hitman REBORN!)
FF10: Inoue Takehiko (Slam Dunk, Vagabond)
FF11: Toriyama Akira (Dragonball)
FF12: Yabuki Kentarou (Black Cat)
13: Sorachi Hideaki (Gintama)
Since this is a Final Fantasy thread, can someone tell me how to beat Seymour Natus?
im asking for help too.
what the best teams to use in FFVI for the mountain bosses?
FFXII was ok.. just i never got used to the free battle system.
Oh..im thinking of getting the PSP FF Dissidia bundle pack..is that a good game?
Yup.

I was actually confused as to why Vaan is in the 13th panel instead of the 12th since every other panel sans the 12 & 13th seemed to relate to a specific FF i.e. panel 6 being FFVI panel 7 FFVII etc.
@Super-Franky:
Since this is a Final Fantasy thread, can someone tell me how to beat Seymour Natus?
Use Aeons,Heal,Overdrives, & attack the mortibodies
Oh..im thinking of getting the PSP FF Dissidia bundle pack..is that a good game?
Unless you don't have a PSP, I don't think buying the whole bundle is actually worth it. The PSP doesn't even have a snazzy design on it! That's just me, though.
The game itself is pretty fun. The controls are easy to grasp and the battles are nice and shiny. I can't say much on the story mode though, since I haven't played much of that (and I don't know much Japanese), but if you're anything like me, the novelty of having characters from different Final Fantasy games interact alone is worth playing the game. XD
