You want to know my reasons why? Seriously? I thought I explained this in the first post already. It's because I think it would be fun. because I want to learn more about this place, which I think is awesome. because I hope others will get a laugh out this or at the very least, reminisce about fond memories. I love the tournament and that just happens to be the one thing I have more knowledge about.

If you want to "learn more about this place", then let the people who has been around here do it.
-
Do you really think anyone around here would have suggested to do this? and I am letting people do it. other people are adding other things to the wiki. that's precisely why I'm only working on the tournament section. hell, I didn't even expect this to be a well-liked idea.
-
I don't think it is.
I guess people are too kind and nice here.
Especially the new ones.

When did we start caring about the opinion of an obvious alt again?
-
oommg what is this and why is everything "according to robby"
-
Who wants to take on the job of writing a page about Romangod… any takers?
-
oommg what is this and why is everything "according to robby"
There are more than two pages with "according to Robby"?

I bet you wrote those 2.

I bet you wrote those 2.

You think everything I write will be with "According to Robby"? Wrong.
Currently I don't remember any other comment about those two by other influential members to quote. If you do, I would welcome you to add.
Quoting people is to be more objective, rather than letting the article say by itself.

I will say my opinion, though. For one, I don't really like this whole idea because people might actually use this to form their opinion about a member before after talking to them, seeing them post, or in some cases going through archives and seeing what they might have been like at one time or another. Plus, it really begins to favor certain members depending on how many people like them, or not. Hopefully the moderators of this system are people who have been around here for quite some time and have a good idea of how shit has went down around here over the years, not just like, the last 1 or 2.
On the other hand, it might be beneficial because it gives people incentive to go digging about conflicts and other happenings in the AP community in the past. Which, in turn, will help them learn about what makes this community so fun and with some actual history to it. Or just for the lulz. Where they might not hear about stuff for some time (things tend to go around every so often and brought back up) they might surf through here, read about the AWB murders, and be like, huh? And go digging.
So yeah, I feel like it promotes more bad than good, but to each his own. Carry on, good sir.

a TV Tropes would be good for AP
….Cause AGOG can be under Butt monkey :D
-
Perhaps we should have a poll to know whether people support this wiki.
-
Doesn't seem like too many people are into it. It's a good idea, but Wiki's tend to only work if there are a lot of people editing them.
-
This is just a tad bit creepy.
Besides, in putting up a catalogue of all the events and info about members (:ermm:) in the forum, doesn't it kind of take away the point of the forum..?
-

go, piratemarimo.
i understand all the criticisms and where they're coming from. and i agree that there is a lot for potential for bad things to happen leading to this whole project crashing and burning. but lighten up on piratemarimo, yeah? the wikia's been around for what, four days? it's not easy to write properly about something like the history of a forum, where there's just so much and so little a few people can do. i'm sure that if this wikia continues, and more people come on board to help, all the kinks will be worked out and the pages will start making more sense. just give piratemarimo, kitsune inferno and the other admins a little more time to get a proper grasp on things. i think they're doing a great job as it is. :)
ultimately this is just for fun and information - it's not going to kill anyone. anyone unhappy with their user page can edit it, and someone who praises him/herself is just gonna be ignored/disrespected by the other members. i think we're all sensible and mature enough to be discerning about that. (if you're not, you probably shouldn't be on here.) just give the editors some time to get a good grasp on things and weed out all the nonsense. of course, if things are still like that a month from now then there should definitely be some serious discussion about it.
with regard to the history of AP forums, i agree that there should definitely be a filter plus a good 'supervisor' or admin who's been around for a reasonably long time and knows the ins and outs of this forum. but while everything's being sorted out, let's try to be constructive and patient, and not demand so much from the admins. i believe that they're doing the best they can already, based on the page histories and updates in this thread.
-
I'm just bustin' your chops, Sea. :)
Damn, I could have responded in a funnier way. But something happened recently made me a bit nervous and take things too seriously.
-
Ignore the naysayers, Pirate. If you are enjoying making the Wiki, keep at it; if they don't like it, they can just ignore it. I had fun writing a few articles, and if inspirations strikes, I might pen some more.
-
@Sea:
With that page, you have got some of the attention you seek, Xico.
I don't intend to offend you in any way, but I wouldn't have had any attention whatsoever if you didn't complain about my article and just took it as what it really is, a joke.

Thank you very much for your kind words. I really do enjoy working on this project. this is perhaps the first time in my life that I've done something on this scale before. I have always felt like I never accomplish anything and never finish what I start (such as stories). But if this can flourish and survive somehow, I can look back in a few years and be proud that I actually did something that had impact, even if it doesn't change the world.
My purpose is not to detract away from interactions among people on these forums by having them go to the wiki to learn about people and I certainly don't want them to go there first before at least making some friends here. Robby said that the best way to get to know people is to go out there and do it; have an adventure. I hope people can be honest on the wiki so that if they read and see genuine appreciation from others, that can make their day a little brighter.
For me personally, I am much more fascinated in history (wow, I sound a lot like Robin right now), or in other words things that I didn't get to experience. Obviously reading about something is not the same as living through it, but we can imagine.
-
yeah i would also like to say something but trappedolphin already said everything i wanted to say
-
I might have missed it, but is there a way to restrict who can edit? If so, might I suggest that you keep the editing open for the next few days/weeks while people tinker, and thereafter restrict access to a few select and generally unbiased people (such as piratemarimo, kitsune inferno, and one or two mods). New pages and significant edits could be sent to those select people through pm here, and pending approval, they could update the wiki accordingly.
Just a thought.
Anyway, I made my own page…
-
Yeah, what trappedolphin said.

! > I don't intend to offend you in any way, but I wouldn't have had any attention whatsoever if you didn't complain about my article and just took it as what it really is, a joke.
! Nope. Let me be blunt. When that article was made, everyone was like "Who is this Xico guy?" ( The name is new so people would be curious and click, thus you got the attention). The joke was not even funny because nobody knew who you were except for SGRaaize (it can make you laugh if it is considered an inside joke). A personal joke about a figure is funny when people have an idea who that figure is. And your article was (uncreative) stuff like your (made-up) life story (which no one cared about).
! ZEHAHAHAHA EVERYBODY THIS IS A PUBLIC WIKI WHICH PROVIDE INFORMATION PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW, SO LET ME TELL YOU MY FLASHY LIFE STORY!! YOU SHOULD KNOW IT AND YOU SHOULD CARE WHETHER OR NOT I LIKE BLEACH BECAUSE I AM THAT IMPORTANT EVEN IF I AM A POSTER WITH LESS THAN 10 POSTS!!
! I wasn't surprised that you like Aizen and only keep reading One Piece because of Kizaru.
If I was you I wouldn't post that link to my profile which had literally nothing.
And SGRaaize is going everywhere milking your nonexistent reputation and get you more attention which you should only get for contribution to the forum.
I am trying to bring common sense here. A wiki article is different from a casual forum post.
BTW, the type of joke I mentioned before, it has some relevance to the actual character of the person in regard, either exaggerated or contrary. Your, had none. -
I just assumed Xico was SG's alt account the way it was going on to be honest….

Yes, some might have had curiosity to click on my article, and then they saw my article and closed the window or went to another article, if you feel offended over the attention I'm getting outside of my article (for whatever reason), taking that out is fine.
I enjoyed your sarcastical Caps-Lock rant, but some things:
-A Public Wiki is not just about information everyone should know, and this has been stated to be a light-hearted Wiki by PirateMarino
-A Article with facts about my person is fair game, you may not care about me, but that doesn't make me any less of a member here, and sometimes, having a fact list is a nice idea, so you get to know me better. Do you want to know me better? No? Then do please close the article. I don't really enjoy reading about Sim4, so I'm not going to visit that article on Wikipedia.
I thought that you were offended at the "Master Debater" (lol) part and at the part where it says I'm calm but stubborn, but were you really offended over a fact-list of my tastes? Even if you don't care, what's the problem with that?
"I wasn't surprised you like Aizen and only kept reading One Piece because of Kizaru"
The part about Kizaru is a lie, I always liked One Piece for a lot of reasons.
And you're better than that, being blunt doesn't mean turning into a insult machine and insulting when unnecessary
I told SGRaaize to put the link in case people got confused when he told me he was gonna make a Wiki and make me his "leader"
"And SGRaaize is going everywhere milking your reputation around the APWiki"
SGRaaize is a retard, I thought that was already established, as I said before, taking out references to my article is fine. And this isn't just about bringing "Common Sense", I wouldn't be defending the article if you simply said "bad article", you outright said that as long as my article was standing there, you didn't want a article about yourself, that's why I am here defending it, I can't go against your reputation, but I can fight against your reasoning
-
Um… Well I know I'm not a mod or anything, but I think this argument is starting to get a little bit out of hand here. While this is fascinating to watch you two go at it, perhaps if you PM each other instead? Unless I'm the only one who is concerned that this will turn into something potentially more ugly.
Also…
@Sea:BTW, the type of joke I mentioned before, it has some relevance to the actual character of the person in regard, either exaggerated or contrary. Your, had none.
I don't really want to take sides, but the way I see it, the wiki should be like satire in terms of humor. that was my intention (though of course I never thought it would even go far in the first place). What Sea is describing rather hits the mark. there's irony and over the top material that goes into satire, but when you come down to it, there's a morsel of truth at its very core. satire is hilarious precisely because people know that the illogical fallacies presented are really just a mockery of the truth, which in and of itself oftentimes doesn't make sense. The Colbert Report is a perfect example. I have no delusions that this project can possibly be as good as that show, which I admire very much, but it's a strong inspiration to me all the same.
Inside jokes that are shared with a large group of people are different than those that are only shared by two people. The main point is whether you can tell it's a joke and whether there is evidence to back that up. You could make a joke about Robby being raised by a pack of wolves, but you would still be able to provide evidence of where that idea came from. If you can show "this is where this inside joke got started, here's what happened" on the forums, then by all means put it out there, because then others can see it.

! Not that kind of humour. Pure fanfic (with jokes that are random as hell) is different from sarcastic humor that has relevance to the actual personality/characteristic of the mentioned member. Read marimo's post.
Behind the jokes are a certain amount of truth. That is what a Wiki's joke should be.

No, in term of rule, there's no problem with that, which is why I let it to yourself. The problem is how everyone think about you after that article. When basically everyone who has an article for themselves has done something for the forum.

You know, everybody agreed to limit the number of editors. hello guys.. i hope somebody will make a page about some guy from along time ago call phenom or what ever.. i heard he's quite famous among one piece fans not only at APforums but also at narutofan as a troll.. just a stupid request.. lol
I've recently found some of his posts in the outskirts battle dome of Narutofan. It is already a terrible sub-forums, so when you add one of the most terrible poster, it becomes one of the worst thing you've ever read in your life.
He definitely deserves a page.

Phenom was one of the most terrific poster of Arlong Park. He could annoy you with his "incredibly stupid bullshit" to the point you had to shoot yourself.
Currently known as Technique. -

[hide]"Pure fanfic (with jokes that are random as hell) is different from sarcastic humor that has relevance to the actual personality/characteristic of the mentioned member"
The joke is a sarcastic "contrary" joke, as you referenced on your previous post, I am a random nobody that tends to write short SMS-like messages, the article is treating me like a "master debater" (lol) and the leader of SGRaaize."I am not what makes you less of an member. Your contribution to the forum that is."
I confused you, admittedly, my wording didn't make this one clear, I just wished to say that I am a member here like everyone else, even if I haven't contributed for anything. There is nothing wrong with an article about me in a wiki, this isn't wikipedia, it doesn't lose anything with my article there."No, in term of rule, there's no problem with that"

It's not in my interest to call you a liar, but do please look at this post:"After seeing Xico's page and the ones made after his, I would like to say this: Don't make any page about me."
I am sorry, but I am fairly positive that I am right when saying that the quote above doesn't mean that you don't want to create a article about yourself, it simply says that you don't want to be involved in a wiki with a article like mine there.
I don't want the moderators of the APWiki to delete my article so that they can create yours, do you understand me?"You know, everybody agreed to limit the number of editors. Its unappropriated, and two things
-You're misinterpreting the "lameness" of the "master debater" joke hahaha, no offence, of course, you must not be English like me, it took me a while to understand it too haha
-The article never said I made anyone admit its wrong, that's ahead of the line, you will notice that my article doesn't refer to anyone aside from SGRaaize, but I don't think he (or any of you) cares about it.[/hide] -

When an appropriate article can only describe a specific member.

Wow, great comedian! Let our wiki flooded with articles like that. -
I just traced your posts, Xico, and wow, guess what, I was wrong. My apology. Your history here is indeed something to write about. You argued with JERK DISEASE in defense for Aizen and Zoom, who was banned for trolling everywhere (I missed a chance to tell Zoom to get the fuck out of the forum).
This must be quoted:
"Aizen is overpowered, but awesome nonetheless".
Your article makes complete sense now. I am terribly sorry and take back every argument against you. -
the fact that he tried to defend zoom and bleach is impressive i have to admit
that alone is more impressive than i will ever do on this forum

Yes sir, lots of good work getting done in this thread.

I noticed you have absolute respect for Jerk Disease/Zephos, but please, not even SGRaaize used the poor fellow as a chance to see a spectacle.
This sentence made no sense.
I noticed you have absolute respect for Jerk Disease/Zephos
I am not his fan, and disagree with him in tons of problems. We are equal. Friends like you and SGRaaize.
BTW, as I said, I was wrong about your history. I approve of your article now.
Even before that, I said I left it to your choice, which meant neither me or any other admin would delete it.
There is no point arguing anymore. I will clarify the misunderstanding, though.! > First you are worried about newcomers who visit my article and think I'm a big deal
! I didn't say that.
! > This is the first article to do something like this, if it ever comes to a huge flood of articles like mine, the article should be deleted and SGRaaize is to blame
If your problem is that a lot of people will start imitating the joke, you have my apologies if it ever happens, but I sincerely doubt it haha.
! Sure a thing to be proud of.
It is (superbly) imitable. While others' aren't.
You could be a role-model, a trend-setter for many lurkers.:)
! > If your problem is that a lot of people will …
! Oh, thank you, that's my problem. It only took you several days to realize. I was thinking about the future of the wiki when I read your article. "If many articles are like this…". Something can happens once, can happen twice...and more.
! > …start imitating the joke
! Of course people won't, because with these arguments I kinda prevented it.
! > If all the lurkers in the world made an article about themselves with their tastes and their personality, would it mean that the wiki would be a disaster?
! You answer yourself here:
! > if it ever comes to a huge flood of articles like mine, the article should be deleted and SGRaaize is to blame
! I think you get it. The most part of the article is a joke and that's what I was talking about. Replace "article" with "jokes" and my statement made sense.
! > SGRaaize is to blame
! He is: :P
! > was it because SGRaaize's article might not give the wrong idea that he is the best?
! Because it described who SGRaaize is rather exactly. :P
! However it still looks like he is making a show about himself.
Which I don't do. But I don't forbid anyone to do. -

I am with Xico on this one Sea. He's eating you alive, and tbh who's deciding who's important and who's not, you? random newbie? Since there isn't anyone who has read the whole forum from a to z, there is noone who can decide that.
If lurker #3421 wants to advertise himself on your wikia, he has the right to, in the way he wants to, cause he's a part of apforums.

Sure, I never denied it, which is why I didn't use my power to intervene with his article in first place. This is not my wikia, BTW, which is why I respected his choice. I didn't forbid him from doing anything.
I just refused to advertise myself. And refused to get advertised in a Wiki where… communist lurkers advertised themselves.
And you know what we limit the number of editors for.
Plus, people can request to have a page for themselves.
Judge by the term you used, I believe after reading this post, you can get what I said. He's eating you alive
You mean the opposite now. Though I am not aggressive enough to be described like that.

EDIT: I ended the argument with him anyway. You see, people start posting normally again. -

I am infinitely offended that I am not in this stupid thing.
