@robbybedfart:
fine, if you're going to have THAT reaction. In brief.
Always works
Chief among them is the fact that after Luffy ate a DF, then there was a 10 year timeskip of all his training we're seeing now, in flashback, that he sucked with it.
I'm not saying that Luffy suddenly learned everything he could do with the fruit, but all the basic things like the endurance from normal blows, the better endurance overall, the bullet resistance, etc etc, it all came from it.
And even if it didn't, there are Devil Fruits better than others, there's no possible argument against this, so, my question is, what if Luffy didn't end up eating the DF? What would have happened if he faced Enel? Lucci? What would have happened if Luffy never got the fruit? Even if he trained a lot, would he be able to defeat who he defeated?
No
His Devil Fruit is a outside source.
Its not like I hate the idea it is a outside source, but it is true that he wouldn't be as strong as he is if he didn't eat this fruit, and he could be far stronger if he ended up eating the fruit Enel ate and training just the same.
Blackbeard was on Whitebeard's ship for 20 years, he had a lot of time to observe and think about the quake fruit.
Alright, makes sense, but about DF's, look at the argument above anyways
On the grand line, it seems they're pretty damn abundant. Most characters of note have managed to grab one. And Luffy's faced other foes with great fruits that sucked due to not using them well, such as Bellamy.
Even if they're abundant, the fact remains that there are many who don't have them, and some of them are older than those who do.
Its still related to luck, and besides, as said before, there are fruits weaker than others.
Ambition abilities seem born from the actual desire of the user, and are not a genetic trait. Born to 1 in a 1000 is because only 1 in 1000 has enough ambition to be a great pirate, as opposed to a say, cabbage salesman.
I don't buy it, it is clear that it is related to DNA in some way. I'd say that Smoker has a big will too, bigger than most of the Kuja's, yet he doesn't have any kind of haki.
And it seems to be a rarity even among the more experienced warriors.
Besides, even if you were right in this point, once again, DF's are related to luck.
@Dark:
Go read Hunter x Hunter.
Bah, screw it, I'l go read it, but I know I'l cry when I have to wait 6 months for another chapter :sad:
@onemoment:
That's the kings haki, which really hasn't been shown to be different from other hakis'
Silver's Rayleigh has haki. Shanks has it. Whitebeard has it. Based on the Snake sisters (who also have it), Mantra might be haki'related so many Skypian's might have it. Oh, and countless Amazon's have it.
Like's like a 1000 peopel right there. Oh and Ace had it when he was a kid, there it didn't seem to make much of a difference. I hardly see how it's unfair either when many of the Haki users mentioned have been brutally beaten by people who may of may not have haki, good examples being Ace or those countless Amazons that Luffy beat with pure unarmed combat. How is it unfair to have an ability–one that we barely know about--that doesn't give you an inherit edge on your opponent?
You're admitting it is an outside source.
I don't think you are getting my point.
I don't mind Haki, the only thing I'm saying is that I'd love a manga that doesn't have outside sources besides someone's will (not haki, lol)
Regardless though, I'm willing to guess that "ambition" is born from one's own personality rather then an inherited ability. Hence, it's probably something earned rather then given.

Well okay, but here's what I dislike about the statement with Luffy . Are you implying that anyone who got this fruit could do the same things Luffy does? Cause that's what I really hate about the whole "outside sources" ideal. The implication that a certain fighter is hallow just cause he's gained a certain power. There's a point where luck and chance becomes insignificant compared to personal ability. It just seems fair to me, even if it's an outside source some people can earn that kind of power, whether it's earlier or later in life.
Luffy has a great will and is a great fighter, but here are some facts you can't deny:
- He would be weaker if he had a weaker fruit
- He would be stronger if he had a stronger fruit
- He would be weaker if he didn't have a fruit at all
Its an outside source, I know it also depends on many other skills, but the DF is a great help that comes from finding a fruit by random chance and eating it.
