Jinbei looks awesome in this preview^^

Saw the whole thing. Pretty good, didn't really feel draggy at all. Animation wasn't quite the best we've seen from Nakatani, but the directing and excellent use of music from Movie 9 made up for it. I was kinda left gaping at the fact that the Alabasta flashbacks at the very end were taken directly from Movie 8, though. It's pretty sad when a TV-budget episode is all-around handled better than a movie.

They probably didn't want to waste money reanimating the flashback or using blue borders again so they settled on this. Can't blame 'em, they should save money for the awesome scenes and they do need to make a profit.
-
Wow like others have said, they did great while using little manga material.
Now that's filler done right, when its used to flesh out cannon! Also now I remember, was that a new move Luffy used, 'gomu gomu no ricochet'?
Similar to 'Gomu Gomu no Tako Hanabi', only now with less octopus. -
What the fucking fuck was that crap with Ivankov turning the guard into a woman about? I'm not gonna tell you, oh, so now I'm a woman, alright I'm tell you then. I mean WHAT.THE.FUCK?!! Leave aside that it was totally unlike the manga (where it was a beat up dude all along) if they want to go with this gender change thing (which actually isn't that bad of an idea anyway) why didn't they just turn him into a woman and threaten him/her to "feed" him to the prisoners? That's much more convincing then with what they went with. Thumbs down for Toei on that.
Other than that the I really liked the episode. It had a really decent flow to it and for once they even proved that they can still do Dragon's face justice (something I didn't see since Drum anymore). So overall the episode was a good one. Just the thing I've described before was a big WTF moment.
On another note I coudln't help but chuckle on Jinbei's statement "I can't believe it. Even after risking your life, it's almost impossible to get the all the way here!" Apparently he can't cope with the fact that there might be other solutions to a problem than just risking your life alone.^^

Loved the episode, however seeing how boring and generic all the lvl6 prisoners are really put me off. Anyone else find this?

yeah they were boring :getlost: i mean .. those guys are supposed to be the worlds worst criminals … yet they don't look like that at all .. and on top of that .. they don't even behave like that .. "woa~ that guy cut the floor!! shock amazing!!!" :getlost: haven't seen many devil fruit users in your life eh?

Oh come on, you gotta admit it was kind of funny. Perhaps the poor dude wanted to be a woman all his life, now his dream has come true.
It worked better than the generic 'tell us, or we beat you up'. -

Yeah, I know. Level 6 is supposed to be worse than Level 4 and Level 5 but the criminals in it look like East Blue typical pirates.
-
I will admit that it is pretty sad that most of the unique Impel Down prisoners are guys that we've already met.
-
And did they crop/resize the Ace vivre card flashback? Because unless it's just that I haven't seen that episode in a while, it looked like the same footage but without the stupid flashback box of doom Laboon had in Thriller Bark… Even though it was just a bunch of still shots, it was nice to see that they can redo stuff for flashbacks instead of recycling too, but if they keep away from the flashback box of doom I'm fine with stuff like that Ace vivre card flashback too.
Nope, Deguchi re-animated it in episode 416.
-
Well, try to think of how pirates gain thier bounties. It's not all strength in comparison to other powerful pirates but more of what they did to threaten the lives of ordinary civilians in society.
-
But Level 6 contains the prisoners who were erased from the history.
-
This episode alternated between amusing and boring. I enjoyed seeing Mr. 3 and Buggy again, so apparantly (thankfully) we'll be getting regular updates with them.
I really didn't see the point of Ivankov changing the guard into a woman.
LOL at Inazuma taking his time cuttin' up the floor.
And then there's Ace, staring up at the sky. Yay?
Croc's reappearance during the last minute or so kind of made up for the wasted time in the episode.
Overall, I was a bit disappointed. I felt the preview for next week's episode was more interesting than the episode itself. Still, for what it's worth, it's still One Piece animated, and that's incentive enough to watch it, even if it has its share of problems.
-
For me this episode spanned around mediocre to average for like half of it, started peaking from the point Inazuma cut the floor and skyrocketed from the point Luffy said he was going to Marineford.
Disappointed that we didn't get that epic Inazuma shot holding the wine in his scissor hands like in the manga though.
-
I didn't like the art, they all look younger.
-
I'm late in complaining this… but the new Jimbei voice kinda disappoints me, compared to the older cooler one. []
oh well, too bad.
-
Is it just me, or did they redo Crocodile's sand? I don't remember it having that kind of constantly-moving, stipling effect to it before.

We live in the digital age, my friend.

I was not happy with this episode at all. Animation was lacking, unnecessary extension of the scenes, and couldve ended with releasing Crocodile and Jimbei being released like the end of the chapter. I think the animators enjoy gender bending no name characters too much. All around disappointed with the episode.

lol

i liked the art of this episode, luffy is only 17, he have to look young :D
-
Disappointing that they didn't animate the full chapter in this episode, but I still enjoyed it. And hopefully they'll make up for it in the next one
-
I enjoyed this one. Not great but went down smoothly (Like Inazumas endless glass of wine)
Gomu Gomu No Ricochet! Nice one
I thought the gender-change thing could have worked better if it would have been explicitly pointed out that the guy always wanted to be a woman. I think that's what Toei were getting at with Iva picking him specifically from all the guards.
mmmmm, Crocodile gave me the chills. Love that guy!
-
Animation budget for this episode must have gone all to the end with Croc.
-
We live in the digital age, my friend.
I realize that. I was just wondering if that was a new feature or just a result of a crappy video-resolution. Heck, I was half-expecting CGI effects for his sand, like in Movie 8.
'Nother funny thing is that Whitebeard's 'stache actually looked like a mustache in this episode. Actually, it looked just like the one that certain Elder has.
-
Pretty good episode. Best moment for me was when Luffy said he was going to Marine HQ to rescue Ace. Awesome stuff. Looking forward to seeing more of Crocodile's return next week.
-
Nice episode. I had hopes for a full chapter episode, but too bad . Next week looks like we get the last part of 540 , full 541 and a little part of 542.(Maybe 443 will end with sengoku receiving the news of a certain person invading impel down?)
-
What'd they do to Moria?
Anyway, I actually liked the filler this time. Didn't seem out of place. But now it's time to get this ball rolling. From here on out things will continue to escalate.
-
hmm finally looked at preview for next week, looks like they show Ace looking up at the sky. So unless they change the order of things or threw that in early that is the first page of 542.
which means next episode will cover the remaining 5 pages of 540 and the entire 541 chapter, plus 1 page of 542. Most likely ending with
! ace arriving at Gates of Justice at Marineford as our cliffhanger and ending with a big boom saying time remaining and/or saying Ace arrives at his execution place marineford HQ

Toei sucks. They always slap on some lame filler to every episode and rewrite parts of the story. What the hell's with that sex-changed guard talking like some bitch from a harem manga? No one in One Piece ever talks like that. And when in the manga did Crocodile ever say, "It's been a while, Strawhat"? NEVER. He never said it. In the manga his opinion of Luffy was kept a complete mystery, but Toei had to go and completely screw up the unique new way Oda has Crocodile interact with him by replacing Crocodile's original lines with some boring cliche. They've given all their no-name, uncreative directors the authority to rewrite any part of One Piece they think isn't good enough. Like it's their story.
They didn't used to do this. They used to always animate each chapter word for word (minus a few minor grammar changes here and there). And life was good then. But now they just go and fuck up every episode with diaper rash fillers and alterations. Every episode deals out more and more plot holes and out-of-characterness. The anime isn't even really One Piece anymore. Watching an episode now is like eating my favorite food but with shit spattered on it.
Man I'm pissed. I hate Toei. Fuu fuu yay. Toei is gay.

This is a joke right? You're parodying a generic purist moron right?

He better …....
-
No, I think he's just a generic purist moron.

You thought that rant was bad? I have an even better one on how the Japanese are all nothing but a bunch of mindless, soulless drones, with their ability to be creative beaten out of them by their disgustingly oppressive, "the nail that sticks up must be hammered down!" society. Oda is a rarity among rarities. There can't be more than a few dozen people in that lifeless country with his incredible level of creativity, yet his masterpiece work is constantly under assault by these retarded clones in the anime industry who can only follow the nationally accepted dogma that the best thing to do is always what has already been done before.
-
Yeah, seriously, he looked fucking ugly in this episode.
As opposed to what? His normal state?
I love how according to Ulrilra Crocodile uttering one, dirt-common Japanese phrase suddenly changes and warps his entire characterization.

This is an elaborate joke right? No one can be THIS bad.

Moria looks the same as he always did to me. Butt-ugly.

Providing terrible posts since Dec 2005..believe it!
-
Yeah, seriously, he looked fucking ugly in this episode.
How is that different from any other situation?
-
Oh my god how I've missed that man's voice. best. villain. ever.
-
Moria may be ugly either way but the anime people usually draw him pretty weirdly, lawls.
I have to start getting up early to watch these episodes…
-
-
sigh I'm not liking toei's products the past 50 or so episodes
-
I think the quality is getting slightly better and the pacing will pick up in a couple episodes. Finally a Buggy and Mr. 3 bit that didn't bore the crap out of me!
