This is probably one of my favourite Gamecube games!
I absolutely love this game. It was my first Gamecub game ever!
I used to have all the characters but i soon lost my data when i accidently deleted all my data off my memory card :(

Iwata-san mentioned a Smash Brothers Online game was well into development on Revolution and hopefully will launch with the console in '06.
I heard they might bring third-party characters (such as Sonic).

I believe it's the best fighting game since SF II but I haven't played in a while though. Fox, Samus and Yoshi were my weapons of choice, Peach being my ultimate secret weapon. I'm hoping for Ripley, Meta Knight, Wario, Olimar and Samurai Goroh (and they should get rid of those clone characters or make them more unique, use the sword Ganondorf!).
Smash Bros. BEST GAME EVER! I'll kick everyones butt with Kirby which is cool, because most people say Kirby sucks because the way he looks. That's when I step in and prove to them otherwise..
My best characters are Peach and Ganondorf. Peach just because she can hover, and I love smacking beyatches around with a frying pan, and Ganondorf kicks the crap out of his enemies…literally. I absolutely love the game as well. I remember when I first got it, I played it non-stop for like three days. It has to be THE most addictive fighting game known to man.
A third one? Awesome! I hope Toad will be in it. Or maybe Birdo. kyehehe

Yeah that was a trick a magazine did a while back. It's fake. Smash Bros. (cause of it's popularity) gets alot of false information created by people.

Awesome game! Especially all the special melee modes. Slo-mo melee with Bowser and Dk and giant-mushrooms as the only weapon = fun.
My choices were usually Luigi and Bowser.
Heh, that gag was one of the two that really caught me in EGM. The other was this years; Redone WindWaker as a preorder bonus for Twilight Princess. I saw it, almost wet my pants, then checked the spine of the magazine.

Fun game, but I don't really like it as much as some of my friends do. Ha ha, sometimes my friends and I start pausing the screens and panning the camera over our characters in obscene poses. Alright, maybe not exactly obscene, but it amuses us. Of course, it gets somewhat annoying if some of us want to actually play the game. Nevertheless, it's good times, good times.
Can't express how much I want to see Sonic in the next installment. Definately favorite character is Pikachu.
Am I the only one that likes to play fixed camera mode on the Game & Watch stage? That's always kickass.
I have it but it is kinda boring to play single player… Only have 1 control.. My favourites is Falcon and Fox, I suck with others..

Super Smash Bros. Melee is the only game I know that brings out the raw testerone in every person holding a controller. By far my favourite game. If there is online play for the next, we can finally settle the age old Nintendo question: "Who's better at SSB:M?"

It's starting to get into the PS3 and XBOX 360 mood.
I don't like the whole online idea.
Just make a newer version.. add in a few new characters (sonic, tails, toad, toadette, baby bowser, BOO (a must), petey pirana, SHY GUY!)
and make the game run on a broadband just like Mario Kart Double Dash. I'd like that better.
I picked this game again. Here I thought it wouldn't happen never again but Soldier of Fortune, a Falco combo video, caused an urge to wipe out the dust from my old GC and just try out SSBM a bit. After all these years Final Destination with weapons turned off is still a killer combination, there's nothing like it. It's just you and your opponent. Amazing actually, I had not touched the game in a year or so, probably more, but I could still immediately play it like it was a second nature to me.
I'm bit worried of the next installation though…and seeing that Sonic suggestion always makes my brain sore. Why not just have Master Chief in the game too?
WHY do people even think Sonic will be in? There is a reason why it's called NINTENDO'S Super Smash Bros Melee, not Nintendo and Segas Super Doopa Fighting game

And on the subject of non-nintendo characters, a friend of mine keeps insisting at how awesome it would be if master chief was in the game, no matter how many times I tell him it will never happen. Really, the only non-nintendo characters I can see in the game are broad third-party characters that have prodominately been on nintendo systems, such as bomberman, etc.

I never really played with 3-other people a lot but some of my fav. characters
are Roy, Capt. Falcon, Mario, Young Link fav. mode is Super Sudden-Death.
Who did everyone use to beat the giga bowser, mewtwo, and ganondorf?

jigglypuff is probably the best to use against gigabowser, mewtwo, and ganondorf
for gigabowser, just jump to his face and use her…ugh...i forgot which skill...B up? or was it B down...
anyway, do that and you'll send him flying
3 times will be enough to knock him off the stage
(or if you're lucky he might just fall off in one hit)
but of course, you'll have to avoid mewtwo and ganondorf while you go after gigabowser, try not to get hit by them or you're done for
and after you've taken out gigabowser
I usually use the cheap charge up roll attack for mewtwo and ganondorf
but sometimes they're smart and will dodge and throw stuff at you
so just play the 'hit and run' game with them
(throwing items or using good or longranged weapons is always good)
but if you're up for a challenge, use anyone to beat them :x

What were you guys' time for beating the Giga Bowser/Mewtwo/Ganondorf stage? I got 3:02, only because I got Weezing out of a pokeball and it raised their percentages by like 200%. 
i got 4:51 whats everyones fav. event battles for me its kirbys air-raid , the one were u protect the egg , the cap. falcon one were u run real fast and thats all memebers
I will absolutely kick anyone's ass with Sheik, sorry for sounding a bit cocky but that's just how it is. =D
For Giga Bowser, Mewtwo, and Ganondorf, I just used Ganondorf and had no problems with the 3. I've never tried the Jigglypuff method, might as well get a shot at that.
For that trio, I believe that I used Jigglypuff, though that was a long time ago that I beat them. the Jigglypuff method is quite simple really, you use her sleep attack, which is b - down on Giga Bowser first, seeing as he's an easy target to use that technique on. Then you can do whatever you want with Ganondorf and Mewtwo, you could use the sleep attack again if you've had enough practice with it, but i wouldn't advise it.
Jigglypuff is the best for taking on groups with that rest attack. It was with the Jigglypuff that I cleared many of the event matches. I got 0.50 seconds on the event match where you have to beat Capt. falcon in 7 seconds or less.
And against the very last event match, I could only do it with Jigglypuff. Attack Bowser from above with rest, Mewtwo get underneath, and charge up your roll attack for Gannondorf, and release when he's doing an attack so he can't dodge. His attacks are slow, so you'll be fine. And if he dodges, you can reverse direction and attack from behind, it's a great surprise to someone who thinks they dodged the bullet.
I kicked everything's ass with Luigi. Even Giga Bowser, Ganondorf, and Mewtwo.
