@onemoment:
Oh, I don't have a problem with fanservice, but there's a time and place for everything. Here's the real page that bothers me.

The other fighters wreck there opponents, but Shigure gets the short end of the stick here. Look in the background, the silhouettes of Shigure are all of her legs with her ass in the air! There's no excuse for that, not where pretty literally ever shot of her up to this point has had some level of fanservice in it already. Why couldn't we get a cool sword slash during this action scene, and save the fanservice for the comedy scenes which are supposed to be more laid back. It's what I hate about Shigure's character, too many sacrifices are made for the sake of sex appeal. I really wish there were more scenes of her kicking ass like the other masters.
You're kidding, right? You do realise she was in generic spirit form where everything is cloaked in light? And she's freakin' tiny. You call that fan-service? The reason that scene was drawn as it was because it's much cooler to think the strikes were occurring in parellel different directions rather than the same direction. We got Shigure's back and Kagerou's front. Since we've never gotten a Kagerou badass pose attack before, he ended up getting the front. That was a very, very bad example. And Shigure kicks plenty of ass. In fact, she's one of the etter treated masters on the show (heck, they're all treated great). She got her own flashback, mini-arc not to mention her personality and fighting style is great. Her final opponent was just hyped up and built up to be much stronger than her giving a potential awesome battle in the future. I don't agree that the fan-service detracts her awesomeness in any way. Personally it doesn't bother me at all, I just take it as one of those things that registers for half a second and then you move on.
@onemoment:
And fanservice isn't all bad. I remember a scene where her and the headmaster Hyato were wearing thongs by a public pool. Now, THAT scene was funny because of it's absurdity. Here, well the naked girl in the panel is enough, what was the artist thinking those silhouettes would do? They aren't drawn well enough to be sexy and like I said, they can't be taken seriously. It adds nothing and sucks tension out of the scene.
It's probably the aesthethics of the author. I agree that it doesn't seem well drawn but it doesn't look like he's even trying. Probably the same as drawing clothers for Matusena. At any rate, it only sucks out tension if you let it bother you. I just ignore it, it's not a big deal.
@onemoment:
Yeah…that all happened in one chapter though, the Kushinada parts and Chikage parts at least. That doesn't make out for the other wasted chapters.
What's wasted? The current plot is the battle of Ryonzopaku vs. Yomi. To just have them fight the nine fists would be boring. Having them fight aginst different parts like the weapons division adds an element of diversty and intrigue. Not to mention the entire weapons theme being a good foundation for Shigure to get some limelight when she fought against Kushinada. It felt more sensible that she did the fighting rather than Sakaki.
@onemoment:
Yeah…that's all pretty bland though. It seems pretty pointless for a group for lethal martial artists need weapons for anyway. I
So Shigure is pointless? Martial arts is a diverse art in the real world let alone in the shonenified Kenichi world. There are certain martial artists that revolve their art around using a weapon. The fact that there is a differentiation made between those who use weapons and those who don't is quite sensible because that's a pretty big deal. Also blandness is subjective. I find this diversity interesting.
@onemoment:
That's be more true if these other guys were more interesting. They were completing unmemorable characters. That's the real weakness of this arc, it just came out of nowhere and threw the characters into these actions scenes, which I'm guessing what the author's intention anyway. He wanted sex and action, and here it was.
They had good designs and even gave us some interesting fights. Going into detail on their characters would have slowed things down and lowered the excitement of the arc. This fast pacing diving head deep straight into action is actually one of the things that makes this series awesome. And quit exagerrating on the sex part. A nipple shot here and there is nothing.
@onemoment:
But despite this I guess it's to be expected. This series is pretty much a middle road shonen manga anyway. It's not really bad…but never gets that good either. Personally, I'm just reading it as long as I can find it on onemanga. I've only gotten more into this series now that the anime's airing on tv.
Again, subjective. This series is definitely one of my top favorites.
@leapyear29:
what i know is that the current running series of this was the remake of the original? correct me if i'm wrong.. anyway this manga is good it reminds me og karate kid movie hehe..
Yeah, same characters. Different, far better story. And Sougetsu looks like a bona fide badass not a boring old man :D
