History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi

I just can't wait till this arc is over. I hate nothing more than anything that deals with Mind Manipulation/Amnesia. I hate crap like that.
-
Sakaki has full body bandages in this pic http://www.batoto.net/read/_/81130/historys-strongest-disciple-kenichi_ch462_by_imperial-scans/14 and they're suddenly gone on the next page lol http://www.batoto.net/read/_/81130/historys-strongest-disciple-kenichi_ch462_by_imperial-scans/15

He is a master…they do that in split seconds. :ninja:
-
Damnit Miu your crotch yet again ruins what could be awesome fight scenes :getlost:.
Kenichi was really cool this chapter. I feel like there had been a lack of it lately. And glad the others finally popped up. Next chapter should be even better…I hope.

Seems like Miu is wearing panties (although it might as well be a thong…).

She's not…he's trying to just full out draw it, but lines are missing here and there in other shots...Bleh. Alright I'm done.
Looking forward to next week and to hopefully be done with this amnesia thing...
-
its probably a shadow. Kenichi was bad ass in this chapter again though. Miu just wake up and put some underwear on.

@Thousand:
The fact of the matter is that this manga has uber elite fodder. I know it may sound weird but that's how it is and the author can hardly waste time developing every fodder can he?
Late response with the chapter. Well I have those two masters regardless. You may be right, but something about a character appearing, having some guy say "that's a master," and suddenly we're supposed to believe that only another master can save them grates at me. It's a scenario with only one conclusion…a master needs to save them. That's boring.
It's even worse when, I remember some characters better then the sword guy and politician master. The master from the D&D tournament and the dad of that blonde pigtail girl.
Hopefully that's enough to remember them, but here goes. The former was present throughout the arc, and his being a master was a nice twist. The latter had about a chapter of fighting with the Shinpaku alliance where they survived despite injuries and an overwhelming enemy who shattered the earth around him. These guys were interesting and good things came from them. Meanwhile those other guys were OHKO's. Hell, politician master was more worried about freaking acorns then the actual attacks of the shinpaku alliance, and he sucked. Yes, I know the masters are far stronger, but something about that bothers me. This story is about the growth of the disciples...and fanservice...and sometimes the masters overshadow them a little too much.Back to this chapter, I think it's been established that undies don't exist in this country. I forget if they mention where this is taking place, but I assume it's some sort of reverse Islamic nation where the women have to wear less clothes. Probably some places Matsuena wishes existed. What's weird though, is that these butt shots seem phoned in don't they? I think the guy is actually getting bored of this.
Also, this chapter actually has me excited for the master battle. With this chaos, Miu confused and Kenichi injured they can create a lot of suspense. On top of it all, this is another master fight where I actually care cause this master actually matters.

And Fortuna is the effin boss villain of the best arc of the series. So off course, they got susbtantial development. It's just something we gotta accept you know? It's either waste time developing every master or screw up the whole power system or just let be Masters be fodder for masters. It's a very weird situation off course and I think it's pretty unique to only Kenichi but there you go. If you're bored, well they're fodder so their fights are hardly supposed to be super exciting. Unfortunately the author has written himself into a corner where the power gaps are just too high between ranks. He does it well and balances it quite well and make sure everyone gets his turn in a fight but…there's that inherent problem with such a system.
(But yeah, I hated the fight against that politician too, I was expecting another epic battle like against Fortuna and instead we got Sakaki bailing them out at the first punch? Lame).
-
I can't even begin to predict how this arc will end. I just hope there's a lasting emotional effect on Kenichi and Miu. And Junazard brainwashed Miu into thinking that Hongo was her enemy so maybe she'll attack him again?

Indeed, there was a lack of badass Kenichi. It's time he levels up.
Also, Miu's crotch is blank. She has Barbie anatomy.

Ikr? The author managed to make the chapter without a single panel of Kenichi and Miu. On to next week xD.

I think that this series would really benefit from a time-skp right now. Allow all of the younger fighters to take a few levels in power, while not berating he masters.
-
with one piece it was ok but with kenichi I want to see his development. chapter was ok. not much fan service but that back shoot of the princess
-
This chapter only adds evidence to my theory that Matsuena is somehow bored of drawing pantless Miu. It's kinda scary, I don't know what would push Matseuna into making an entire chapter about war and dudes fighting each other, but it happened. Hell, that one back shot of the princess (which I didn't even notice until RPG King mentioned it) looks flat and bland–clearly secondary to the action in this chapter.
I'm now entertaining a fantasy that Matsuena has been pushing for pantless Miu in a long time, his editor finally gave in, and now that he's got it it's nowhere near as fun as he thought it'd be. He may just be going through a personal crisis where he'll grow as a person.
I also didn't care about this chapter. With Hongo here I keep thinking back to his fight with Sakaki, and I freaking hated that arc.
-
I chuckled. I know these are supposed to be manly men, but the abs being easily seen through Hongo's coat cracks me up. Wearing satin to a fight might feel nicer though.
I'm glad for the lack of fan service, but not much happened really.

lack of fan service? what are you talking about? You even mentioned it in your post!
Those abs, unrealistically poking through his shirt. Is that a body type that anyone could ever actually achieve? It's degrading, having all these men flexing 100% of their muscles 100% of the time, just so the female fans can ogle them. It's actually gotten to the point where I'm distracted from my enjoyment of the chapter, because I see all these things that I know girls find attractive, and it bugs me. Half of the male characters don't even have a personality beyond "I AM STRONG LOOK AT MY PECS". Why can't this manga feature men with realistic bodies? Why do they have to all be these beefcakes?

True I had to re-read but I don't know how I could have missed that, yet seen it!
Yeah. Look at those deltoids. It's obscene, men being exploited in such a vulgar way. It's clearly setting an unhealthy standard for young boys to try and gain so much muscle mass that they can't wear a proper shirt. We don't need full panels of a guy flexing just to talk!

We're discussing muscled men and pecs in a shonen manga… surreal.

I enjoyed the chapter a lot. I'm quite surprised Hongou is taking on Jezard by himself. There's nothing left for Sasaki to take on except fodder. That giant who couldn't even become a master would be defeated in about 10 seconds. I wonder if the author will do back and forth chapters. Whole chapters covering the Hongou vs. Jezerd fight and whole chapters covering Miu, Sasaki, and Keinichi. That or just mix the coverage up in the chapters.
You know, I've never been bothered by the fanserive in this manga except when it distracts and takes aways from intense emotional scenes, so I can't give voice to the complaints about of the fanservice in this manga. It's just something I could care less about on most occassions. I have noticed since the beginning of the manga how muscular the men are but that has never distracted me even when they're in an emotional scene… I think it's the fact that most of the fighters in this manga just have unrealistically proportioned and extreme bodies. What makes the fanservice different about the women is what they wear. Men can wear tight clothes that show off their figure but women wear tight and less clothing to show off, so I suppose women are put on the spot in a more variety of ways for fanservice? That makes sense seeing as how this is a genre genre geared towards boys and teenagers.
Anyway, I think it's the fact that men aren't stipped down constantly which makes their fanserice less distracting/ignorable for me in the few scenes where fanservice is uncalled for.
-
Well I was mostly just playing off of BBL, but I guess I'll switch over to non silly discussion mode.
It is something that's always been unbalanced in these sorts or genres it seems. In this series women in tight barely there clothing comes off as impractical, "sexy", slutty, silly. Men in tight barely there clothing comes off as impractical, a way to show off strength, silly. I left off sexy for the men. The men aren't posed so that they are sticking their asses out, with the weird half lidded lust mode facial expressions. We also get far less crotch shot from underneath.
Sasaki's pant's look painfully tight, or he's apparently wearing Jeggings.
Women in this series bodies don't really match the years of training in my opinion. I feel at best Miu should start vaguely looking less soft and more hard. Freya even has a defined 6 pack, I just find it odd that Miu doesn't. I get that she's supposed to be the agile fighter, but she's still physically strong and even gymnasts get crazy abs, and muscular thighs. Street Fighter at least got Chung-Li on the right track even though she looks very out of proportion in recent games. Incoming character names I don't remember…Cat lover girl, pervert sensei's daughter both lack muscle definition as well.
It's kinda funny that you can tell this was really only being geared towards boys. Very muscular men, women with huge boobs, flimsy reasons to show off bodies. It's also kinda funny cause with mangas if they want to draw in the female viewers they typically put in a man that could pass for a woman in that universe, gender neutral or might be possibly gay. Occasionally they throw in an actual woman that could be a role model, but they usually get hit with the fan service stick too at some point. If they are older, they get shown as young and pretty in a flashback or through some technique to let them revert, if they are young and strong they lack modesty or self control in some way. Booze, money, cute things, men, women, griping fear of a particular person or item, then they are down and out till the distraction is gone. I'm okay with giving characters personality flaws, everyone has them but what I listed seem to be the common go to flaw types in the manga I've read.
Freya is probably the closest to a female character I can get behind in this, but I doubt she'll ever get a spot light again. While she does have fairly large breasticles, she's wearing a full pair of jeans, at the very least. I'd like it if she had more than tank top since it gets shredded so easily. But she has a fairly strong calm personality and can put up a good fight but she wasn't quite at Miu's level. But she got fan serviced into walking around topless (nude?) and implying she's into women around Cat girl. Which weirdly reminded me of Yoroichi and Soi Fon.
And holy crap I rambled on longer than I meant to lol.

Good points, what it basically comes down to is that this manga is geared towards guys and one avenue the author decided to tread down to attract his audience is loads of fanservice, mostly of women. What fanservice there is of men (to attract the smaller female audience) is kept at a minimal to not piss off the majority male fan base.
What the author has of really muscular men can actually be considered fan service to a certain point but it could be a hell of a lot more with…as you said the lewd poses combined with conviently stripped clothing the women go through.

Spoilers are out on imperial, and trans is out on mangahelpers. Looks like there will be a 1 week break after this chapter so the author can do a hermit and kanou shou gaiden to show their past together.
-
chapter's out by imperial. that's a crotch shot if i ever saw one. D:
finally this amnesia thing is over. i hate that kind of plot.
-
Kenshi actually hit her, huh? O_O
Never ever thought that would happen.
-
Why was I surprised that Matsuena had this Miu outfit get torn up too?
I like the page spread where Kenichi finally breaks Miu'd amnesia. This has been a good fight for Kenichi, though he really should be at his limit at this point. Hopefully Miu will get a chance to save face and carry the slack from here.
-
@Sonic:
Someone here needs to read Baki, this manga is full of fat slobs in comparsion.
Do we have a Baki thread? If not, then one really needs to be made lol. That thing would be on it's second thread in no time.
-
Jeez, this chapter was INTENSE. if there's one thing Kenichi is really good at is delivering the hard-core action. That scene with him grabbing the sword just to be hit in the back by Miu and then slammed down by a sword was brutal. Talk about going above and beyond your limits.
-

He's been a zombie since the beginning lol.
-
yay Kenichi was so kick ass this chapter. God damnit Miu…I kinda don't want her to fight next chapter cause it'll just be more Boobs and crotch...that was the worst lol. Hopefully Sasaki will come busting through a wall and put down that guy. Miu can redeem herself after she puts on proper clothes.
I'm so happy though, Kenichi technically broke his rule about hitting women, although it also prevented her from getting slashed, a good way to introduce it. And I'd bet that after he's out of berzerk mode, he'll later realize he hit her and freak out lol. Really intesnse.
-
So…... Is the message "If you hit a woman she'll come to her senses?" What the crap?
-
A long standing theme of this manga has been Kenichi's desire to protect Miu along with the fact that he's incapable of hitting a woman. It's sexist and stupid especially in a series with very strong, capable females that could break his spine with a single kick but that's just the way he is.
The fact that Kenichi finally hit a woman along with the fact that it's Miu of all people goes a long way in giving this scene monumental impact. It shows his incredible resolve to protect her for him to abandon his ethics which he has been keeping to since the start of the series and might even lead to him finally giving women a little more…well I won't say respect because it's not really a respect thing but just the way he is...well at least he might treat them more as martial artists.
Just trust me when I say I think a lot of members including female ones are probably pretty happy that Kenichi finally had the resolve to hit Miu (and to be fair, it looked like he wasn't really trying to hit her as much as knock her away).
-
finally she wakes up. bout damn time. kenichi was a bad ass no doubt in this chapter. the fan service was kinda expected with the swords and miu being there. This is why he's my avatar. never gives up no matter what happens.
-
So…... Is the message "If you hit a woman she'll come to her senses?" What the crap?
kenichi doesn't hit women
wow how sexist treating women like they are inferior and dont deserve to be fought with the same level of respect he shows male fighterskenichi hits a woman
wow how sexist is this manga saying its fine to abuse women!
-
Hey, something battles me. In the past few chapters, Miu's done several crotch shots with doll nudity. Yet this chapter, Miu gets her robe torn and suddenly every shot of Miu below the belt is covered by a hanging piece of cloth. Why? Does Miu's vagina suddenly exist now that her robe is torn? Makes no sense.
-

Not to mention I never said anything about sexism. It's not that I think hitting women is sexist, I think its wrong. It's not about sexism, its about respect for fellow humans because they're human. Buts that a whole different argument. One that isnt appropriate for a subforum about a silvermedal manga.
Besides. I don't read manga expecting everything to be gender equal. And if I was really upset with the sexism involved, then I'd complain about One Piece way more.

It's..a martial arts manga. People are going to be hit, women included. I'm not really sure what the complaint is.

Naw. He's got those bracers or awesomeness on.

How his Kenichi's chivalry sexist? His motivation for not hitting woman obviously isn't because he feels they are incapable of dealing with it. He just doesn't like hitting females. How this could offend anyone ever is dumbfounding.
-
Seriously, they should be in the one piece thread flaming sanji rather than kenichi lol.

Ah, but there-in lies the problem. Why does Kenichi not like hitting females?
As far as I know, there hasn't been a specific reason for this attitude stated in the manga, so one can only assume it comes from chivalry, which would infer that he thinks women are more delicate than men and therefor should not be harmed.
-

But he obviously doesn't think like that. It's clear he knows very well that women like Miu, Renka, Kushinada, etc are all very dangerous and capable. He even respects female martial artists to the point that he's happy to be the disciple of Shigure.
HOWEVER, even if the underlying motivation for his hesitance to hit women was because he felt they were more delicate generally speaking, that still wouldn't be sexist. It's just a simple fact that the female body through evolution is not the equal of a males body is some areas, and vice versa. It isn't as a big, and it isn't as strong, and it doesn't posses the same stamina among other differences. Females can be more delicate in that sense. This isn't sexism here, this is physiology.
-
sigh Sanji is a bit different, in that he's a total pervert, he's not usually thinking clearly if the woman is pretty lol, the Kalifa fight was just ridiculous. Sanji could have possibly been able to beat her, but because he was so turned on he got clobbered. It's weird to explain but it's in it's own way disrepectful in Kenichi's case. Kenichi is the newbie in all of this. But time after time even if the female opponet could mop the floor with him because they have more experience, he still refuses to fight the same way he would with a guy. Some can say he's chivarlous. I find it to be stupid. I could maybe understand this logic if he was Sasaki strong. Strong enough that you can fight strong opponents fairly easily and still be holding back your real strength.
But eh the females in this get taken out with grapples and swooning over Kenichi and his moxy.
-

Oh yes, I agree with you on the body thing. Physiology is physiology, and no amount of complaining will change the fact that men do have more stamina and generally have stronger bodies. However, this is little comfort to women who do practice martial arts and work and train all the time only to be looked down on by their male peers.
I'm not disagreeing with your logic, I'm just trying to clarify the mindset of the people who think Kenichi's behavior is sexist.
