This show is surprisingly silly sometimes for what it's about. I don't know if it's just my odd sense of humor but like the scene where the guy melts his bathtub while trying to dissolve the body. I found that slightly humorous.
TREMENDOUS
@Thousand:
I know this may be random but…

Holy shit, I didn't have a clue. I haven't been this shocked since I found out House was Stuart Little's dad.
For anyone who is a fan of the show, Giancarlo Esposito recently did a huge Q&A for Reddit, answering a ton of fan-submitted questions (including mine which was one of the last few he answered) so if you have time give this a read

I was reading the AMA before, it is filled with win. He did a few video responses which very few famous people do which is awesome. Seems like such a great man.

! Big Mike is back.
Its been on Wikipedia for a bit that he was bumped up to top billing. But they also got rid of 2 of the main characters last seasons, so adjustments had to be made haha.
Dang, can't wait for July 15th. We all saw it coming, but Mike looks to be a great antagonist.
Not happy that they're splitting the season, though. Apparently we'll get 8 episodes for this Summer, and the last 8 for next year. I'd rather take 16 episodes straight.
Wait, that's craaaaaaap!
Well, its only going to last one season? Let's do what the Harry Potter people did and split it into 2 parts.
It might as well be 2 8 episode seasons.
The first 90 seconds of the season premiere
Can't wait for the 15th. I hope they go deeper into Gus's character, especially his Chilean background. I'm still wondering as to who he really is.
Today's the day. Put on your labcoats everybody. The time of reckoning will soon be upon us.
Tonight's the night
More like tonight's the night season 4 is on Netflix and I'm gonna catch up
The new darker color palette suits BrBa well.
! That was a powerful scene with Beneke.
! So the oranges at the scene of Ted's supposed "death" last season were just a red herring, hahahaha.
better call saul and tell him i love him
! YEAH BITCH!!! MAGENTS!! OHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
! YEAH BITCH!!! MAGENTS!! OHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
So many great lines this episode, my favorite being from
! Mike when he decides to help Walt and Jesse get rid of the video evidence and he's standing by Jesse's car with his hand out
! Keys, scumbag.. This is the universal symbol for keys
Nice to have a Mike-centric episode.
I am really starting to regret getting caught up with this show. These breaks are freaking killing me.
That was such a great hour of television. Like I said in an earlier comment they really are opting for everything to be heavily shadowed now.
! I was so hoping that Mike's soft side would come through on that last trigger pull, and thankfully it did. Even without him pulling the trigger, the writers were not fibbing when they said this was the darkest season yet. Loved the entire interaction between Mike and Hank as well.
Oh and it ended with creepy!Walt again lol. Oh how I wish for his walrus-stache to touch the nape of my neck… nah not really.
! All that foreshadowing with Scarface and other gun-related stuff on the TVs throughout the episode! But perhaps the biggest foreshadowing: Walt says, "Does everyone die in this movie?"
! Great cooking montage this ep. Liked the scene with Walt and Jesse / father/son on the couch talking about secrets. Other than that wasn't a major fan of this episode, but it was still great build-up. Besides it wasn't like they could follow up last episode with a better one, especially on the exposition phase of this season.
Loving the slow build up. It will make it all the sweeter when shit hits the fan.
! Anybody know the purpose of ~~the apple bite~~?
! It was 2deep4me. But seriously I didn't get that, and this show quite often has hidden symbolism. Instead of consoling Skyler, he took a vicious bite out of that poor fruit. Was it related to Ted, Skyler…? Taking a bite out of the apple because of Ted's poor condition, as in a celebratory bite?

It's just to show his character. He created another true yet deceiving lie (as weird as that sounds) to Marie. Just another one of the "Monster's" success. He bit the apple vigorously, strongly. Everything's going according to plan to him.
Gia has it. S01-03 Walter would've been shook after doing something like that. Panicking, running through is paces to make sure he got the story straight, going to skyler to try and get her to go in on it. Not anymore. Just drops that clever lie, covers his ass, and has a snack. Hey, he even sits down to watch a movie with the kids afterwards. Come on in honey, you've got nowhere else to go.
Walter grows more and more chilling by the episode.
You can almost hear the tick tick ticking of the clock, counting inexorably down to the moment the time bomb goes off.
And blows up in his face.
I kind of don't want it to. I kind of want him to be the king. But i also feel like he's got so much shit coming to him he can't possible get away from it.
also question
! Ponytails guys cut can't be 110k each time right? Was that a one time thing cause if not once you factor in his +25k per cook he's making almost as much as walter and jesse.
This episode was glorious. The actors really gave their A game. Setting up the business, Walt and Jesse's tall, Walt sitting next to Brock, Walt and Marie, the final scene with Walt, Mike and Jesse and Jesse and Walt. All incredible minutes of television.
Two big gripes though.
I did not buy Skyler's breakdown at all. Call me a monster if you want but I think the actress, who is usually very good, just hammed it up too much. Instead of feeling sorry for her, I just thought she should stop chewing so much scenery. Yeah sorry, I just didn't buy it, maybe if she really upped the frequency of her voice, I'd have bought it but I felt she didn't do a good job of really letting herself loose.
Also, really, Scarface? The scene wasn't exactly subtle was it? And with all the movies, parents let their children go to see in the theater, I didn't enjoy the implication that Walt did anything wrong having his baby with him during the movie. She's a baby, she wouldn't understand anything let alone the parents who let their children and tweens see movies like DKR, Alice in Wonderland, Twilight, Transformers etc. etc. I thought that was in pretty bad taste. Yes, Walt should know better being a drug dealer but come on, it's just a movie. She's not gonna understand shit.
Just two minor nit-picks from an otherwise great episode.
I didn't really have a problem with her acting. Her mental breakdown seemed pretty legit to me.
Also, the Scarface scene wasn't to show that Walt is a bad father by watching a gory movie with his unborn daughter. The key point is when he says "Man, everyone dies in this movie." while he's watching with his two kids and asks his wife to join them. Breaking Bad loves its foreshadowing, could Walt's story end in a similar way?

Well personal tastes, I thought she was hamming it up but maybe it's just me.
I dunno about the Scarface scene, I wasn't thinking anything other than "Oh cute, he's showing his daughter an awesome movie at first" Then the shooting got louder and we panned to reaction shots and I got uncomfortable. Again, maybe it's just me.
I actually hope Walt wins. Honestly, I'm kinda sick and tired of the Scarface ending. It's gotten a bit cliche even if it's the logical conclusion. I'd prefer if the movie overturned our expectations and just have Walt win. Not just because I've grown attached to Walt. Just, it's a pretty predictable ending and Breaking Bad is usually great at surprising you. Give a "Fuck it, this is life, and sometimes the bad guys win ending". Like Godfather.
In the middle of the episode. Haha, I love Gary from Bent, it was nice to see his actor do a bit in this show.
It was nice to see SKinny Pete and Badger again too. Everyone in this show does such a great job. Also that cooking scene, fucking amazing. I think i've rewatched it about 5x already.
I didn't see the Scarface scene as foreshadowing so much as it was a message to Skyler.
The volume was up loud enough to wake her, and his remarks of "Everybody dies in this movie don't they?" didn't seem off the cuff.
In keeping with virtually everything Walt's done this season, it seems right in line with his new ruthlessly manipulative, blame-shifting, combative persona.
To keep everyone too fearful of him to jeopardize him.
Walt hasn't shown any interest in her well-being or what she wants. He moved in without consulting her, he "forgave" her for using his money to keep Ted quiet.
He slimily sidles up next to her in bed, kissing her regardless of her response, telling her "she'll eventually get used to it. This is all for the family."
And hearing about her breakdown from Marie, shows not one inch of concern for her beyond her giving away his secret.
He tosses her in front a train to her sister, then casually goes to the kitchen to take a self-satisfied bite out of an apple, not really caring to check on her.
Scarface was a message.
I don't think he was threatening to kill her, but he is putting the fear of what could happen to their family in her, if she blows his cover.
He's doing the same to Jessie; making the kid more and more complicit in his misdeeds - and dependent on him.
That crown Walt thinks he's wearing is gonna come down at this rate. Mike said as much.
So here's hoping that at least Jessie gets out while he still can.

Oh wow, I completely misinterpreted that scene then. Yeah that's way better than what I thought. Walt has really become a dick. I don't think he was this bad in season 4. Every scene that shows genuine goodness still in him can be construed as subtle manipulation. I missed how he engineered Jesse's break up with his girlfriend until a friend pointed it out.
Fuck the non-cliche ending. Let him burn.
Huh. That's a pretty interesting way to interpret that, I hadn't thought of that. Seems completely accurate! I just thought it might have been linked to the scene at the very beginning of the first episode of this season where Walt opens his trunk with the gun in it (can't remember what gun it was, there was a huge discussion about that on Reddit, though I think they came to the conclusion that it was NOT the same one Scarface used, like many believed). I've just been seeing the gun-related stuff they've been watching on TV as foreshadowing for that.
But, that scene you were referring to could have two purposes, Walt capturing Skyler in his twisted beard of fear, and the foreshadowing to Walt looking at that gun contemplatively.
Also this is random but I <3 Skinny Pete! How cool would it be that, if things turn out okay instead of a complete mess at the end of the season, he starts a band with Badger & Jesse? OR even if things do go to shit, those guys are still okay and start the band anyway because they avoid the crossfire of Walt's downfall?
Yea, nice call. Thats probably what it was. Walt is such a slimebag this season.
You know, I would have said that Walt was going to end up going out like Scarface, but putting Scarface into the show is just way too obvious. And Skyler's reaction is totally believable. Look at what happened to Ted, then her husband blew up an old folk's home, and now he's acting creepy and rapey, while moving back into the house. She's gonna tattle to someone if Walt doesn't get to her first (he is saving that ricin after all).
Walt's almost getting in over my head. He's gotten way too confident, as seen in the first episode this season. "How do you know they won't catch you?" "Because I said so."
Plus how considerably creepy he's been with Skyler.
Walt's come a long way from his timid days in season 1. He's changed completely, and I really don't think he's going to get out alive, or intact with his family, anyways. I think he's going to suffer a big loss.
But then again, I can't ever accurately speculate on Breaking Bad, and I actually love it for that.
@The:

I figure the ricin will be coming back in the season, since he didn't dispose of it.
chekhov's gun. I don't think he's going to use it on Skyler. She loves her family too much and is in too deep to blab plus if she was dead he'd have to look after the whole family. He can do what he does mostly because he's not required at the house. Hank, Jesse, and Mike are the most probable targets if its intentional but it could be anyone if it's used accidentally.
I think Walt will use it on Ted (only reason he was brought back in my opinion), which is what will ultimately cause Skyler to snap.
i really don't think Ted is going to talk. I think he was brought back to show Skylar just how far in she was. He looked at her like she was a mafia don, he was terrified all pleading for the sake of his kids and what not. I think that's whats gotten her so upset recently. I mean yeah walt blowing up someone didn't help but before she could always just say she was handling the money, making sure it was taken care of. But now she's put a guy in the hospital and walt was creeping all over her reminding her of what she's responsible for. You're just like me baby, we're in it together.
Really any scene with walt and Skyler this season has just been so disgusting. i feel bad for her =/
Pretty good episode, if you ask me.
"What exactly are you waiting for, Skyler?"
! "For the cancer to come back."
She got you good on that one, Walt.
And I loved that final shot of the watch. Tick tick ticking away.
breaking badstep lol
I'm really grateful for this episode because it injected some goddamn humanity back into Walt's character.
You mean reminding him of his mortality? Cause he was pretty much a monster the entire episode.
I mean actually showing humane moments and not that he became an emotionally disconnected Gus clone.
That opening scene with the cars where he's just having fun and, though he's still acting the conniving bastard with the way he was mentally cornering Skyler, his tone indicated he was angry at her and after Skyler said she wanted him to die, it felt like he had been slammed in the gut so at least he shows he actually wants to be loved by his wife and family and thinks he is still fighting for them in his twisted way. And he can still be touched by moments of kindness like when Jesse gave him the present.
