How can I tell who is a staff member?

These people are all staff members.
-
Can someone delete the thread or how do you do that?
-
^You don't have to, because I believe that the staff changed that rule a while ago.
AWB's just out of the hooptie loop.

The Desert Princess and the Pirates earn its PG-13 rating with bloody violence, women flashing groups of men, and jokes about cross-dressing.
The back of the DVD should have said this exact quote in the ratings block.
-
I don't exactly agree with them saying its more "adult". It may be more mature but not adult. Saying that makes it sound really vulgar.
-
Many would put bloody violence, flashing, and gay jokes in the "adult" category.
-
Meh. I guess.
16 characters
-
Well, if my computer is complient I'll maybe upload a scan of the advertisement in the new US JUMP. Thirteen episodes for the win!

I'm 12 and I understand the jokes, my parents dont mind.
-
My parents just pre-ordered this for me. I'm excited right now.
-
Well, in the set, the pack brings in two cases that feature "Luffy" on the first DVD box, and "Zoro" on the other. I guess that pattern will continue with the other numerous characters.
-
I orderd Movie 8 and it's on it's way. I think it was put in the 'adult' category because you also got to consider the over-protective soccer moms that consider stuff on the original One Piece too violent for kids in the US, whereas it's a kids show in Japan.
I'm also getting Volume 1 of the uncut dub.

Do you mean like, there being two cases for the DVD, and the image we've seen until now is like a slip-cover or something? Or am I completely missing the point here?
-
I'm guessing.
What we see now would basically be the case that holds both the dvds. Open (or slide, don't know which one) the boxset case, and you see the two other dvd cases that hold the actual DVDs.
-
I'm thinking it'll be like the Dragonball sets. 1 keepcase, 2 discs.

The two thin disc cases slide out of the box cover (the image that Funi has been advertising). The first disc case features Luffy and the second one is Zoro. I can get scans/pics up in a little bit.

There's pictures over on Toon Zone forums, actually.

Well how bout' posting a direct link to them? :silly:

Kuro's new name pronunciation is wonderful. (just like Vivi's was)
Funi = awesome :s -
Here are quick scans of the two disc covers:
-
Grrrr….I'm so pumped to get this now.
-
Sooo, explain those covers to me. Is it like two mini cases with the DVDs inside bounded together with a sleeve cover?
-
Buuhan, I'd really botch up an explanation so I took a few quick pics – hopefully it'll clear things up!
-
Yep, that's exactly what I asked if it was or not. Thank you.
Looks great.
-
Stupid question due to being slightly impatient, and a bit curious, but is the disc art different? Or is it Luffy and Zoro (or maybe Nami and Usopp (to balance it out))?
-
EGX, the disc art is basically a compass rose, with the Shonen Jump One Piece logo featured at the top. It's a simple but tasteful design - very fitting for a pirate themed anime.
-
I'm confused as to how the menus are.
Is it animated, or just "cheap" style, like their Movie 8 DVD? I'm not really expecting much though.
As long as it looks aesthetically pleasing, it's alright if it isn't animated. =] -
Here are quick scans of the two disc covers:
that Artowrk looks so cool.
RIght now I am resisting to put zoro as a wallpaper on my PC since I lost my other OP Desktop backgroundSmall question:Is the audio on the DVD good?
-
Lobster, no, the menus aren't animated. Below are examples from Disc 2:

I'm one who is a sucker for animated menus, extra features, etc. but seeing how quickly they have put this set out (and how quickly they are planning to release the others), I have no qualms about any of it. The menus look nice and are easy to navigate. I think the beri coins are a nifty little touch.
KF22, I thought the audio sounded great but that is from someone who is no where near a techno geek. That question would probably be better answered by others here or from Toon Zone reviews, etc.
-
Lol, it looks great.
More like Pirates of the Caribbean then One Piece though xD

Oh, I've been forgetting to ask something. Why is Buggy referred to as a "Clown Prince" in one of the episode titles?
-
Buuhan, if one of the titles you've seen refers to Buggy as a "Clown Prince" then it's a misprint. I checked the back of my DVDs, the episode menu, and the episode itself. They all have the title as:
"A Terrifying Mysterious Power! Captain Buggy, the Clown Pirate!"
-
Okay, good. Someone in the other thread who wrote all the episode titles typoed then.
-
So, I just heard this from some random guy at AnimeOnDVD: Apparently there is no japanese credit-track on the DVDs, and the episode title-cards are also english only. Now, this doesn't affect the show at all, but I still think it's somewhat dissapointing, especially seeing how I like the japanese logo far more than FUNi's…
-
How were Sam and Buccie sounding?
-
… It's only a different color and an I.
-
… It's only a different color and an I.
Oh, so because it's just a different color and an I, that means that I'm not allowed to be annoyed? (And you forgot that the font itself is also different.)
Besides, in opening 4, they removed the title-screen entirely and replaced it with just a random image of the Going Merry from the side. Call me overly nit-picky here, but I think that's a more logical thing to complain about than "There propably won't be any extras on the DVD."
Besides, I'm still gonna buy the DVD, and I still have no doubts that I'll enjoy the show, but it's still slightly frustrating that they replaced the original logo WHICH WAS ALREADY WRITTEN IN ENGLISH, and now there's no way to get the original one… So in my opinion, there are now 2 things FUNi could do to improve these sets, which already seem quite good: Use 3 discs instead of 2, which would increase the video-quality, and including the japanese credits and title-cards when you watch it in japanese. They've done it before, so it shouldn't be too hard. -
It's very possible that they'll include them in upcoming DVDs, especially if people tactifully approach Mike McFarland and other Funi reps and request them to be included.
I know I heard in at least one interview (an informal Q&A after a con panel) that they said the original logo, etc would be accessible using the "angle" feature, as this is what they've done in the past with other shows. Perhaps in the rush to get this set out (they've been SO busy with the current Skypeia episodes, Unlimited Adventure, Movie 8, and now dubbing from Episode 1) that it was something they overlooked since there is no other angle in which to view the DVDs.

That's possible. If not, then I hope that they'll at least fix the sloppy editing they did with Bon Voyage, and place the logo over the ACTUAL video instead of replacing it with random stock-footage. Again, I'm basically just nitpicking here, but the fact that they include both english and japanese credits is one of the reasons why I prefer FUNi to other dubbing-companies, so I'd hate to see them stop doing that.

@Lobster:
How were Sam and Buccie sounding?
Like Todd Haberkorn (Kohza) and Chris Rager (Mr. Satan). HA. That'll be interesting.
-
MR SATAN is Buccie?! o_o
As in.. HERCULE x)
-
They don't really sound like their Japanese counterparts, but the voices fit nicely.
-
@The:

They shouldn't always try to, either.
Otherwise you have actors trying to imitate people that they couldn't match. I thought we all learned this lesson when FUNi hired a new cast for DBZ and first tried having them imitate the old Ocean Group cast.
-
Heh talk about timing, I just finished watching The Cat Returns, and I swear the very SECOND the credits started rolling, the UPS guy drives up with my DVDs. Awesome!
-
I suspect FUNi didn't get those materials from TOEI.
-
Done with disc one.
A few notes:
- Attacks have been restored to their original names. Chop-Chop Buzzsaw is now Chop-Chop Rice Cracker for example. Very nice!
- Video quality is very good. I'll check out the 5.1 audio after I watch all the episodes.
- The audio that plays in the menus sound odd. Its a sped up version of Luffy's "theme". (I recall the track being called,"Gomu Gomu no Bazooka".)
- There are no alternate angles for the original logo or kanji credits. While this doesn't bother me, its inconsistent with the movie eight DVD. The clean opening on disc two doesn't have the original logo either.
- I'm LOVING the dub so far. Fucking awesome.
I'm starting disc two now. I can't wait to get the next set.
EDIT:
"D'ow…my balls...my balls...that was a cheap shot...!"
ROFL.
-
danm it. The UPS guy drived passed my house like 10 times today and no dvd, I better get it tomorow.
