Okay guys, since some people wanted a clear version of FUNimation's We Are, I decided to try singing it. Sorry for the not-so-perfect quality, it went through a bit of converting.

Well better a dub version of the opening than servicing to the weeaboo's by giving them the Japanese opening with subtitles. Besides as others have said I find the english adaptation of Hikari E nice to listen too, and I liked the english adaptations of most anime openings including Kenshin's.
The only thing I like about Hikari E is the still they use at the end
as for Kenshin I loathe you. -
@Tommy:
Did somebody just say "weeaboo"?

On the topic of Japanese openings with subs in english dubbed anime (Naruto, Death Note)…I kinda wish they wouldn't do that. But whatever.I kinda wish they wouldn't either, but it makes the japanophiles BAWWWW if they don't keep it in Japanese so it can't be helped.

Bolded parts = fixed from what I heard. Still working on seeing if I can figure out what the hell it said.
Anyone with closed captions see if the song was brought up?
Sorry if someone else already answered, but no, Closed Captions did not display lyrics to the song.
-
Hey now I like both the Japanese AND English versions of the Kenshin openings and endings.
I'm not too big of a fan of the english opening theme for Kenshin, but I do like the ending theme:happy:.

No I just can't stand the first opening to Kenshin  and not because it seems out of place given the way series goes.

Yeah, I really don't like it much either.
-
There you go, I fixed it.
ok wait… what did you fix about what I said?... seriously, if you were trying to be funny, it just came off as stupid... you didn't change anything
-
reads the lyrics
You know, on paper it's not that bad. Change "we are on the hunt" to "we are on the cruise" and I'd accept it. But the vocal part shouldn't have dragged on certain words. It sounds unnaturally drawn out.
-
@Sandai:
I for one just don't like the fact that Funi seems to think every opening or closing in any anime they acquire has to be translated or rewritten into english, though not all of they're work is bad I've still had to suffer
from they're rewritten substitutions for Cha-La Head Cha-La,We Gotta Power,Don't You See,& Dan Dan Kokoro and they're translated versions
of Makafushigi Adventure & now We AreThere was nothing wrong with the translated Mystierious Adventure. o_O It sounds really weird hearing the opening to an anime in a different language than what's being presented in the entire episode.
You seem to forget not everyone actually follows subs and knows what the songs are all about. Slapping subtitles on ala Naruto-style would be incredibly cheap. It just doesn't have that same impact.
Hell, there's nothing wrong with the English translated songs compared to this fucking shit:
IicQ5mvhT0Q -
The only really bad part of the song is the verse about Luffy being the Pirate King. It sounded both out of place and corny. Hopefully, the DVD version will be much better.
I loved the "Setting sail, setting out, searching for our dreams.." at the beginning.
Next week, SKYPIEA!!!
-
oh god yes, Thank Heaven FUNimation only made such an appallingly bad opening theme for a series that Sucked to begin with… you people should be thanking your Lucky Stars we didn't get "Step into the Grand Line (GRAND LINE, GRAND LINE) Step into the Grand Line, SHOUNEN JUMP'S ONE PIECE!!"
-

I lol'ed and then cried. Mainly out of fear of what could've been and out of sadness that GT's only redeeming quality is gone from the dub. :(

IicQ5mvhT0QThank you Tsukento you reminded me exactly why I didn't like the music that Funi passed off as good music in their GT Dub.And All things considered I still don't see a reason why I shouldn't go on a rantpage every once in awhile when Funi,Viz or 4Kids takes it upon themselves to jack up the Opening or closing to an anime by changing the theme & adding sub-par lyrics or some lazy ass instrumental or just translating the song into english with the original song and still making it really sound really crappy sometimes.

eh? I liked Freckles both in english and japanese… but that's just me. I just liked the song.

That's what happens when you take a shounen series and try to target it towards girls as well with a cutesy girly sounding theme. :p
I gotta agree, though. I didn't care much for it. One has to wonder why the hell "Heart of the Sword" was an ending theme instead of an opening.

A story about an ex assassin who vows to never kill again and you cheapen it
with a cheesetastic song like that, but evenmore you make the song overly annoying to listen to. -
So is it bad then that I liked that song?
And well yeah Heart of the sword should have been an opening too, but I liked it as an ending.
Besides let's face it Freckles was a good opening song to start off the series since it was pretty light hearted for most of the beginning stuff anyways up until the Kyoto arc.
-
For those that missed it. 4kids "We Are" English version.
-
So is it bad then that I liked that song?
Bad that you liked it? Nah. If you like it, then to each their own. :p I just didn't feel it fit for a shounen series about an ex-assassin swearing never to kill again.
And well yeah Heart of the sword should have been an opening too, but I liked it as an ending.
Didn't really mind. I just felt it would've been better off as an opening.
On topic though, I still can't get over Luffy messing with the South Bird. That was friggen priceless. XD
-
Hearing "It's time to set sail for a mystery" in the 4kids version of We Are always reminded me of this pic:

Yeah, but they continued the "Cutesy" Opening theme thing even in the Kyoto Arc, remember " 1/2 "?
Don't get me wrong, I liked the Opening themes for Kenshin, they were cute XP -

Don't get me wrong, I liked the Opening themes for Kenshin, they were cute XPI liked 1/2 and thought that fit fine. :P
ah well okay glad you liked them too then. I thought I was alone here. XD

I guess so but I mean it's not like they used that opening for the Trust and Betrayel OVA's XD
and yeah Heart of the sword would have been a good opening song during the Kyoto arc.
lol yeah it was funny how they were teasing the south bird and all. Luffy did sound a little cocky there though, but I felt it fit. XD
-
The fact that the South Bird's head would spring back to the south position the first time was priceless. XD
-
You could tell it was trying with all it's might to stay like that too. You know speaking of which the south bird wasn't even in a cage at that time so what was stopping him from flying away?
-
That whole South Bird scene was hilarious.
Third time I ever laughed at a One Piece dub because it was actually funny. And yes, the first two times were during the FUNi dub. -
You could tell it was trying with all it's might to stay like that too. You know speaking of which the south bird wasn't even in a cage at that time so what was stopping him from flying away?
It was chained to the rail. You could see a small rope-like chain shackled to its foot. :P
-
I believe he was chained by his foot to the railing. I rather liked Chopper's tone when he repeated what the bird said.
EDIT: To quote Sonic, "Too slow." D:
-

I didn't even notice that. I thought it was just sitting on the rail freely and wondered why it bothered sticking around. XD
To be honest it would have been kinda funny if it had bitten Usopp or something.
-
lol Yeah, I loved the Southbird thing to. There have been a lot of things I've actually laughed about when watching the FUNimation dub.
(And Aethos, you're not totally alone, I loved the Kenshin opening. )
-

Well I am happy to hear that then.
but yeah it would have been funny if it had bitten Luffy or Usopp and it showed them trying to pry the south bird off one of them.
-
The FUNi dub is hilarious.
-
Finally watched it. It was well played out, We Are sounded fairly bland, but I wasn't expecting a masterpiece for it since they did say that it was heavily rushed. I can't wait to hear the fixed version.
-
They could do like the theme to Teen Titans and put it in diff laguages.
-

Not really, considering both English and Japanese themes of Teen Titans were done by the game singers.
-
I've been playing FFIII all day. XD Anywho…what did I miss?^^;;
Oh, and by the way, I was wondering when we're going to get to hear a new ending? Does anyone know? =/
-
Quick post of impressions for last night's episode.
Best line: Zoro's pigeon line. Nailed the deadpan delivery.
Worst line: "NAVIGATOR!", nuh uh Robin. That's "Miss Navigator" to you. Seriously. Less tude please.
Bonus: "We are" was pretty bad. Didn't live up to the high standards set by "Hikari E".
-
Oh, and by the way, I was wondering when we're going to get to hear a new ending? Does anyone know? =/
Three and a half episodes from now. So that's three episodes and then the end of the following episode. :P

Yeah, that did come out a bit off. :wassat: I thought it may have been mouthflap problems, but "Ms. Navigator" seemed to fit in where "Hey Navigator" was used.
Bonus: "We are" was pretty bad. Didn't live up to the high standards set by "Hikari E".
Well "Hikari E" was given time to work on. Mike did say "We Are" might not be up to everyone's standards due to having to rush it. We can likely count on it being fixed by the time DVD dubs are being done.
-
Just saw my recording. Liked it generally, no real complaints except some odd lines that the characters would never say, most notably Zoro's "mother nature" rant.
I'd need to hear more of We Are! but it sounds pretty good except for the part where they changed every word entirely. No, no, I exaggerate. I also laughed a little at that "We are on the hunt!" line. I was like "How can you mistranslate your own language?"
-
Yeah, I too thought that the "Navigator" line was kinda…awkward. Robin seems to have an attitude problem in the FUNi dub. XP
-
Funi's We Are! wasn't by any means bad, but some spots in the song need to be fixed. The line where it talks about Luffy being the pirate king needs to be changed as well as hunt being changed back to cruise, but I think those are the only problems with it.
And I like Freckles too, Aethos !
-

Hmm…I see. So it's like...almost a month. This settles it then. I sure as hell ain't gonna go to Mexico this Christmas. XP

Oh right. I forgot to factor in when Christmas was. That's also if CN doesn't decide to interfere with the Toonami schedule for Christmas marathons of any sort.
-
Kaizoku Luffy the quote in your sig gives me mental images of Luffy trying to stuff the other straw hats into his pockets. XD
-

Knowing how they've been regarding marathons all year long that seems
somewhat plausible ,they just keep coming up with more and more excuses too stuff Toonami's or Adults Swim regular scheldues in a locker. -

But you just know that they're going to do just that. >.<

"Quit asking questions! Get inside my pocket Chopper!" XP
-
Well we all know Luffy loves to stuff everything into his pants.
Meat
Octopus
Shiny orb that can't be eaten, even though he tried to eat it.It's only a matter of time before he tries shoving his friends in.

Hey anyone notice how episodes with action are rated TV-Y7 but non-action episodes are rated TV-PG???
-
After watching the knock-up stream again, I'm liking it more.. The only thing I wasn't really feeling was Sanji's delivery of the "Nami I love you" line. Just didn't sound "passionate" enough I guess.
Otherwise the episode was really good, but I still say they could have at least stayed somewhat close to the original lyrics for We Are instead of completely making it up.
And I also laughed a bit at "we are on the hunt".
-
@Ethereal:

Yeah, I've noticed that too. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. =/
