FF IX was Multiplayer on PS1/X while 1-8,10-12 were all single player.
was it because square enix wanted to try a new kind of gaming in the franchise?
Wonder why…

was it because square enix wanted to try a new kind of gaming in the franchise?FFVI had the exact same feature in its options, so its inclusion in IX was probably a reference to that.

^FF6 had multiplayer option? Was that in the JP SNES ver. only or was it added to the PSX ver. as well?
Either way, I guess the reason they didn't do it prob. cuz ppl didn't notice it or the producers forgot about it. -
Neither my PSX, PS2, nor either SNES are connected right now, so I can't check on either version. I'm fairly certain that it was like that on the SNES though.

I think Gametrailer's FF retrospective explored the question of "why it went MMO" reasonably well.

was 9 multiplayer? i thought it was 11 that was mmo?

I don't know if you could really call it multiplayer, since all it was limited to was just having a someone on a separate controller select commands in battles.

yes it was only you split up the party so different character are controlled by what player its assigned to.(example:Stein and garnet can be controlled by player one while Quina and Vivi can becontrolled by player 2)

along with VI and IX, I believe V is multiplayer as well..? I don't remember, it's been quite a long time since I last played it.

Huh, you learn something new everyday. IX is my favorite FF title (with IV and VI being after) and I had no idea about that.
