@Really:
Just wait until the Zombie L arc. It's awesome.
What's that? The first site i find with "Zombie L" and "Death Note" is a german blog that refers to Misa as Femme Fatale Haruhi and calls L a pokemon trainer.

I feel ashamed I did not pick up on this series when people told me to.
I shat brick when…
"By the way, why do you keep looking at your watch?"
"...Because...Seconds hand hits the 12...I'm Kira..."
Goes to kill herself
Oh, hey, my phone's working now. Don't you want to call up my dad and tell him who you met today?
Hahahahaha, that scene is so fucking great. Misora's face is hilarious every time.
Yagami Light is such a great son of a bitch.

It's where L comes back as a Zombie and bites Light's neck, turning him into a vampire. They then proceed to take over the world, and Near and Mello shoot their brain with shotguns, because it's the only way to kill a zombie.
It takes place during chapters 239-999 in the manga and episodes 108-500 in the anime.
Has anyone seen the Director's Cut video? Is it worth watching?
You referring to the TV special?
I know everybody here hates DN, but from what I've seen of the dub, I'm pretty impressed. Not a whole lot of shows out there that can maintain my interest without badass action scenes, but this is one of the shows that can. Definitely tuning in tonight, I expect good things from this series.
^ I gotta agree with this. It's far from my favorite anime, but it is quite interesting. AS has been lacking really interesting anime series lately.
Ahaha, oh God.
"I'll take a potato chip… heheh... and EAT it!!"
That was even more overdone than the original.
Anime:Where even the most mundane actions are extreme.
Hahahahaha, wow they really did overly exaggerate that line in the dub. It was already corny in the original anime, but Light's VA never fails to make things sound silly.
"…AND EAT IT!" @gaara:
I know everybody here hates DN
Light's one of my favorite manga characters, so.
The chip scene was golden.
Tonights episode was fantastic! I've never laughed so hard at the potato chip scene.
Wait…Did he just...
No...
No, he didn't...
He didn't just....
HOLY SHIT HE DID!
Haha eruk is funny as hell
ALSO Can anyone upload the Epic potato chip scene in english? Far superior then the original (see my sig)
Light's one of my favorite manga characters, so.
Glad I'm not the only one who really likes Light.
Here is a Youtube Poop of the english chip eating scene xD

Anybody who does this:

Not ummm…Not quite what i had in mind...
EDIT: NVM found one (see sig :D)
The only thing funny about that was Ryuk though the whole chip thing was kinda a random hopefully this doesn't become the new lead into a movement
akin to "I'm The Juggernaut Bitch".
@Cyringohn:
You referring to the TV special?
Yeah that one. (16)
Yeah, it's definitely worth watching, especially if you like:
! Light crawling on L's grave and laughing like a crazy fucker.
Havn't been on my old thread in awhile…and the potatoe chip scene is the scene I've been looking forward to since the dub first came out!..now for swimming lessons~
edit: Gohn may I please have a link to the tv special..I've still never watched that
@Cyringohn:
Yeah, it's definitely worth watching, especially if you like:

Though your reply made me go :wassat:, I think I'll give it a watch, thanks.
BTW Shadow check yo PM.
Someone edit a potato chip brand into DN's sponsor section.
TV Special? May I have a link to that as well please?
I'd like to see Light laughing like a psycho on L's grave, so can I have the link too?
That's the best you're goin' to find on YouTube. Subtitles aren't in English, by the way.
The only parts of the TV special worth watching are the beginning and the end, since those are the only parts with new scenes. I downloaded it a while ago and skimmed through it and it's basically just a recap of the events until L dies from Ryuk's perspective.
And yeah, that ending scene with him laughing at L's grave was pretty messed up.
Just watched 7&8 last night…and I'm starting to get really sick of Light finding some sort of way to stay one step ahead of everyone he meets. The way he offed the fiancee was just a tad too easy, (just get her to trust him to the point of revealing her real name) but at least that was more plausable than having specific guards to know his door was open and wasting four-hundred dollars (and a bag of potato chips) just to kill while studying. If it weren't for some of the other characters (L and the investigators, Ryuk), I probably wouldn't have too much reason to keep this up.

What the fuck, it wasn't "easy." He had to think of about 9027502 different ways, and all but one failed like a crazy whore. And the reason she trusted him enough near the end is because he is the chief inspector's son. That, and she specifically stated that Light seemed like L: highly intelligent and knows what he's doing. L is somebody she completely and utterly trusts, so her emotions got the best of her. What sealed the deal in the original manga is that he said that he believed it was destiny for him, L, and Misora to all work together to capture Kira. Misora became overwhelmed at the thought of being able to capture Kira with two incredibly brilliant men, so she sort of caved into her hopes.
It makes perfect sense.

So what, spending a lot of $$$ to cover your ass makes it "too easy?" And having ingenious and perfectly acceptable methods of protecting your privacy makes it "too easy" too? All these methods make perfect sense and are nowhere near bullcrap.
It's not like Light is going "I EXPECTED THERE'D BE CAMERAS IN MY ROOM" without doing any preparation beforehand. He's not Wesker from Resident Evil.

Only watch the parts with those characters, then.

Misora should of had doubts. Light was coming on too easily and just got away with getting her trust due to reputation and by lying that he was part of the task force. (yeah he joins it later but for the moment he just is using their works to help with his murders) While he did eventually get her name due to trust, she should have doubts that a high school kid, even a genius like Light who helped his father before, would be so eager to work with her and help her out when he himself is the one who killed her fiancee and wanted to kill her due to how much she already knew.

Light was being too precise, almost to the point of being paranoid. I knew he would not expect the cameras, but at the same time specifically knowing the way his door handle would work combined with having both the piece of paper and the pencil lead there just seemed a tad too much. Just because he's a genius doesn't mean he has to be cautious to the point of perfection to keep anyone off his trail. And even with his cautions, L was just getting closer to realizing he was a key suspect and all he did was just find ways to create an alibi in case he was asked.
@Tokoro:
Misora should of had doubts.
She did have doubts. The entire time. Which is why she gave him a fucking fake ID and ignored his wishes to not bother going to the station.
@Tokoro:

Silly me, I forgot that lies never work. Thanks for that reminder.
I also forgot that working through different ways of finding trust doesn't work either.
@Tokoro:
While he did eventually get her name due to trust, she should have doubts that a high school kid, even a genius like Light who helped his father before, would be so eager to work with her and help her out when he himself is the one who killed her fiancee and wanted to kill her due to how much she already knew.
Yeah, except she, you know, didn't know he was Kira. So that excuse makes about the opposite of sense.
Why wouldn't a kid like that be eager to work with her? He said he's helped cases before, so he's had a taste of what it's like to catch criminals and help society. He's also really smart like L, so he wants to put his talents to good use. She obviously has direct connections with L in the past, so working with her would be good credentials within the investigation team.
@Tokoro:

He started doing this stuff immediately after finding out that the Death Note actually works. Before he was even a suspect in the investigation. Basically, he did what any normal person would do, which is make sure nobody found the Death Note and guarding it in a secure place. He just went to extra lengths because he's so intelligent.
@Tokoro:
Just because he's a genius doesn't mean he has to be cautious to the point of perfection to keep anyone off his trail.
If he doesn't want to be executed, yes, he does. This isn't just some kind of game. If he's not as careful as possible, he's going to die.
@Tokoro:
And even with his cautions, L was just getting closer to realizing he was a key suspect and all he did was just find ways to create an alibi in case he was asked.
… And?
Essentially, it all boils down to you wanting Light to sit on his butt and just keep his Death Note in a desk drawer, hoping L doesn't capture him and that everything'll be okay; he should just not use that top student in Japan brain of his.
Of course, this is likely due to the fact that you obviously don't even like his character, as you pointed out.
If a situation comes up when I have to argue with Tokoro Ataru, I usually just ignore him/her to not waste my time.
The only problem I have with the whole sitation is when did Light put the television in his chips. But then again, I guess there couldn't be cameras at EVERY point in the house, so he had somewhere where the cameras weren't watching to put it in.
@Cyringohn:
She did have doubts. The entire time. Which is why she gave him a fucking fake ID and ignored his wishes to not bother going to the station.
The whole purpose of the character is that she should not trust anyone, particularly a kid who just comes up to you, knows about Ray Pember and the Kira case and wants to work with you so badly that you give up your information just to get yourself caught in his web. Misora did doubt him but somehow she just should not have given up her identification unless she had the proof from the investigation group that Light is a member. He could say whatever he wants just as long as he gains her trust, doesn't mean you have to succumb so easily. It boils down to getting the proof, particularly with a serial killer who can kill with a name out there and him staying around even after failing with the alias. Without the proof and merely trust, particularly with Light, all you're going to do is die.
Light is still an unofficial member working on the team, defactoing and assisting his father while using his information to kill. He's not an officially trusted teammates or gone through any of L's trials to really be a true member of the investigation, so he should have doubts from anyone who thinks he calls himself a part of this investigation. Misora should know from previously working with L how precise and paranoid he is and how he knows he trusts so few people out there. And then suddenly this kid comes along, wants him to trust him and says he's part of the task force and she drops her inhibitions to give up her name?
He started doing this stuff immediately after finding out that the Death Note actually works. Before he was even a suspect in the investigation. Just because you're a genius doesn't mean you can use these brains so practically. Light is just depicted as such since if he wasn't, then he would be caught easily and there would be no story. Creating a fake bottom for your drawer is one thing, but knowing the mechanics of your door and creating safeguards for it is a bit much, particularly since the cameras would have been placed in there regardless of the safeguards. Light would figure out someone had been there and started his fakeout from merely seeing other factors in his room that show misplacement and that someone had been there. Just because he's a perfectionist doesn't mean that the police can't screw up and leave some sort of clue to show they've been in there.
Essentially, it all boils down to you wanting Light to sit on his butt and just keep his Death Note in a desk drawer, hoping L doesn't capture him and that everything'll be okay; he should just not use that top student in Japan brain of his.
Look, I get Light is smart and wants to use his Death Note for his childish ambitions. Having a bit of paranoia is one thing but at this point he's just acting too cautious, to the point that he could eventually be considered a suspect by L and the investigators. While you have to use brains to outsmart people, I think they are just giving us too much to show that both sides are beyond normal intellect and are trying to one-up the other in order to catch the other. (Light to kill L and stop the investigation, L to stop Light) Besides, Light already knows he's a dead man: Ryuk told him that when his time is up, his name is going into the Death Note and that's it. All he's doing now is trying to make sure he reigns over this world as long and as precisely as possible
@Tokoro:
The whole purpose of the character is that she should not trust anyone
No, the purpose of her character is revenge against a killer. The word 'revenge' is used about 907509275 times whenever he character is mentioned.
Which is why she ultimately trusts Light. She wants to stop Kira at all costs, not protect herself from dying, especially when she stated that she has no qualms with dying as long as Ray Penber is avenged.
@Tokoro:
particularly a kid who just comes up to you, knows about Ray Pember and the Kira case and wants to work with you so badly that you give up your information just to get yourself caught in his web.
Light isn't just "some kid." I already explained this, but you just seem to want to ignore that.
Once again, you can't say "She was dumb to trust somebody who wanted to kill her." when she doesn't know that. Once again, you ignore what I just got done telling you.
@Tokoro:
Misora did doubt him but somehow she just should not have given up her identification unless she had the proof from the investigation group that Light is a member.
Logically, you're right. Only an idiot would give up her real ID like that.
But, as I stated, it's because her emotions got the best of her. Even Ryuk realizes this, taking note that "Human females are always sucker for the 'destiny' stuff."
@Tokoro:
He could say whatever he wants just as long as he gains her trust, doesn't mean you have to succumb so easily. It boils down to getting the proof, particularly with a serial killer who can kill with a name out there and him staying around even after failing with the alias. She doesn't care about dying. If she can get any help in avenging her dead fiance, she'll enlist it. Add in the fact that Light reminds her of L and there's your excuse.
@Tokoro:
Light is still an unofficial member working on the team, defactoing and assisting his father while using his information to kill. He's not an officially trusted teammates or gone through any of L's trials to really be a true member of the investigation, so he should have doubts from anyone who thinks he calls himself a part of this investigation.
He only lied about that after he knew she hasn't met with L about the case yet; she also confessed that she hasn't had contact with L outside of the times she worked with him in the past. Therefore, it's incredibly easy to deduce that she'd have no knowledge of who is on the team, and it's definitely not far fetched that Light, the son of the chief inspector of that region's police services, and who is obviously a genius, would be on the team.
@Tokoro:
Misora should know from previously working with L how precise and paranoid he is and how he knows he trusts so few people out there.
Which is why she had a fake ID made. And which is why she is paranoid.
But also like L, she doesn't care about dying and is willing to take risks to stop Kira. Which is, ultimately, the downfall of both characters. They weren't careful enough.
Then again, L also second-guessed himself all the time, largely because he was so dead set that Light was Kira that he boxed himself in a single train of thought that he didn't notice some other subtle clues.
@Tokoro:
And then suddenly this kid comes along, wants him to trust him and says he's part of the task force and she drops her inhibitions to give up her name?
You act like she doesn't know who Light's father is.
@Tokoro:
Just because you're a genius doesn't mean you can use these brains so practically.
Dude, even I could think of ways to rig my door, and I'm a dumbshit.
@Tokoro:
Light is just depicted as such since if he wasn't, then he would be caught easily and there would be no story.
And if L wasn't a genius detective, Light would win. What's your point?
@Tokoro:
Creating a fake bottom for your drawer is one thing, but knowing the mechanics of your door and creating safeguards for it is a bit much, particularly since the cameras would have been placed in there regardless of the safeguards.
What 'mechanics?' He purposefully doesn't close the handle all the way, which is something an 8 year old could figure out. Also, knowing the putting something in the hinges of a door would crush it when the door opens is about the opposite of rocket science.
@Tokoro:
Light would figure out someone had been there and started his fakeout from merely seeing other factors in his room that show misplacement and that someone had been there. Just because he's a perfectionist doesn't mean that the police can't screw up and leave some sort of clue to show they've been in there.
So now, you're trying to say that Light is a poor character because the police didn't leave him evidence to figure out? Wow.
@Tokoro:
Look, I get Light is smart and wants to use his Death Note for his childish ambitions. Having a bit of paranoia is one thing but at this point he's just acting too cautious, to the point that he could eventually be considered a suspect by L and the investigators. (Light to kill L and stop the investigation, L to stop Light)
How can they place "too much emphasis" on the entire point of the show? Maybe they should just devote twenty chapters to what noises Matsuda makes when he takes a gigantic dump.
@Tokoro:
Besides, Light already knows he's a dead man: Ryuk told him that when his time is up, his name is going into the Death Note and that's it. All he's doing now is trying to make sure he reigns over this world as long and as precisely as possible
By that logic, we should all just give up on life and never do anything since we're going to die, regardless. It's all fruitless, and we're only trying to live as long as possible.
The only problem I have with the whole sitation is when did Light put the television in his chips. But then again, I guess there couldn't be cameras at EVERY point in the house, so he had somewhere where the cameras weren't watching to put it in.
In the manga, Ryuk tells him the exact location of all the cameras. It's definitely a stretch that Light remembered all those positions, but the fact that he did means he calculated where they are and that's why he put the chips somewhere where they couldn't see. What's a bit bullshit-esque is that he remembered all the locations with Ryuk only having told him once, not that he thought of what to do about it.
Now that Gohn has won this silly little argument, I have a question:
Are there anymore overly epic scenes? Mayhaps epic TENNIS PLAYING?
I haven't really watched the anime, but I do know there's EPIC SAKUJO from Mikami, plus
! EPIC DYING on his part:
Every sakujo from Mikami is epic sakujo.
Now that Gohn has won this silly little argument, I have a question:

He didn't win, I just gave up. Wasn't really worth saying anything anymore.

The EPIC SPOILER there has to be one of the most exaggerated moments in the entire show.
@Tokoro:
He didn't win, I just gave up.
I believe all that Tokoro was saying is that things just happen to fall into place way too easily for Light to the point where it's not even realistic. I know it's because if not for plot devices Light would have royally screwed up by now and there'd be no more story. Even so it shouldn't be so easy for Light to cover his tracks and pretty much act like "I know everything that's going on and what everyone is doing before it happens because I'm super smart!" Nobody is THAT perfect.
Besides I don't see why people can hate Near for pretty much doing the exact same thing, yet defend Light doing crap like that.
Light wouldn't be caught if L wasn't so smart, and L would catch Light if Light wasn't so smart. The argument literally goes nowhere.
Near literally guesses things. Light and L deduce things through logic, while Near literally went:
"Okay, I know Mikami is X-Kira because I saw his face in a few Kira rally videos."
"The new L is Kira."
There's literally no basis for any of that.
Yeah pretty much. Considering killing the fiance didn't exactly change the outcome of what Light was trying to do in the first place I think the author could have let Light fail in trying to convince her. At least it would show that Light can't always win at every situation.
One other slight argument I have with the series now is how L shows little to no disbelief in Kira using some magical means to kill people.
I mean if I was thinking in non-manga-terms, I would assume these murders were done by an organization, but everyone assumes it's just one person who's somehow able to kill people on another side of the planet.
And the Lind L. Taylor thing isn't really an excuse because they could assume someone from this "organization" was among them at the time they were planning it.
But then again, it 'tis teh mango, and the story is much more interesting when L picks up on this "Face + Name = Death" thing a lot quicker.
Not to mention L suspecting Light even more while watching the camera's didn't make a lot of sense either. "Hmmm Light is doing what every other normal teenager does! That must mean he's Kira!"

I don't know, if tons of people were dieing of heart attacks with no visibile cause all over the world, sometimes in places where it seems like they should be hard to get to, I think many people would start to wonder if there was something paranormal going on.

This is true. However, I'd probably assume there was some undetectable drug being used to induce heart attacks in these people and that this hypothetical organization had the power to have access to these criminals (and I'd also assume there was some self-righteous leader with a God complex like Light controlling them). Maybe that's just because I don't believe much in ghosts and shit like that…Dunno what normal people would think, though.
@Cyringohn:
You act like she doesn't know who Light's father is.
Not to defend anyone, but if she was such a great detective, she could have suspected Light of lying. Instead of believing everything he said.
