I don't know if this has been discussed and im not going to look however characters tier list would be cool if its already been brought up or if there is already one then point me in the direction of that if not lets make one.

It's way too soon for one to be made considering this game hasn't even been out that long. Let alone that no one here knows nearly enough to make a valid tier list. Just play who you want to play, and don't worry so much whether your character is seen as "good" or not.

I don't think a tier list is bullshit if you consider the speed strength and the characters ability to come back. I think Pit is the best character in the game.

Sonic is the fastest -
Tier lists aren't BS, but the only thing that seems to matter are the top 3 and the bottom three.
As for SSBB, there won't be any tier lists until more glitches are discovered ^.-

Anyway, Cyringohn explained pretty well in the other forum so I'll just paste it here.
Tiers measure the demonstrated tournament potential of each character when utilized in that character's metagame by a highly skilled player.
One of the most important things to remember is that tiers literally mean nothing in a casual environment, as these players often lack the skill and knowledge that is used when determining tiers. For example, if your friend plays with Marth, yet all he does is walk around and do random aerials and some mixed-in Smash attacks, Marth's placement on the tier list doesn't mean anything due to the fact that that player isn't using Marth to his full potential. Therefore, if you're a better player than he is, you can just slap him around with somebody like Roy and win.
Tiers are designed with the metagame in mind. For example, Character A might be the best character in Insert Game because high levels of play in that game focus around grabbing, and Character A has the best grab game in the game, as well as methods of dealing with grabs. In Smash Bros. Melee, Captain Falcon was rather high on the tier list because of his ability to easily kill the space animals [Fox and Falco] with SHFFL combos; he had a character advantage over them. Since Fox and Falco were already so good on their own, Captain Falcon's ability to deal with such good characters in the tournament scene bumped him up a lot in the tier list.
So yeah, it's all about the tournament scene and what strategies are being implemented at the time.
By the way, a metagame is generally considered to be the "accepted and proper" way to play a character. Player styles will always vary, but if you watch games like Third Strike, you'll notice that players always pick the same Super Arts and tend to use the same combo strings, as this, after much practice, is considered to be the most effective method of utilizing the character with the most strengths and fewest weaknesses.
Writing it off and calling it bullshit doesn't prove what your viewpoint on the matter is. Remember that tiers only affect the metagame of whatever game your playing, not some casual environment where one can say
"so and so is good with insert character here so that character has to be good."
You can disagree all you want but the fact is that they do exist.

They don't have character balancing ablilties at all. Every character does have their strengths and weaknesses. What determines tiers is how glaring said weakness, and how powerful said strengths are.
Also, easier to use characters don't mean shit metagame wise. Everyone will have delved a signfigant amount into their character by that time. Unless this easy to use character is an annoyingly broken bitch. (Melee Shiek, though not really broken)

Sorry Chaos. You gave me the lag of hell. My Squirtle is not sexy at all without timing. Though you're pretty good. I just kept playing until I experimented with PK thunder to see the lag severely killed response time. The damn bolt went 10 feet before turning.
Maybe we'll go again sometime though.
