1. I recently downloaded a torrent program. I do know alot of torrent users, but they are too lazy to help…
Is there anything i should definately do?
Like, for example, something involving getting caught...
2. Also, I really hate my PC. I am planning on getting a new one!
Should I keep default Vista even though it sucks, it has alot of vista only stuff.
Or should I just reformat it for XP, since it is more user friendly, and lax with torrents.
no… you should preferebly NOT get caught doing anything illegal... =P

I mean are there any repracautions.
PS. I tried downloading a torrent, and it did not work. The progress bar never moved :|

dont know… the company that holds the legal rights to anything you downloaded will probably sue you if they find out.
legal consequences depend on what country you are in.
personally i dont know of any specific tips to help you dodge getting caught.
the reason the progress bar wont move is most likely that there are no seeders for that particular torrent (meaning there is noone connected you can download from)
Also it seems its having trouble downloading things containing multiple files.
What torrent program are you using?
Reformat back to XP. Trust me, it's what works best for what you're doing.

The torrent client you're using makes a big difference. Personally, I use Vuze beta, powered by Azureus, because it's the fastest one I know. If you're having trouble downloading, it probably means your connected to the wrong port. I had an NAT error for a while after I got azureus, and had to change the port.

This is the best place for getting torrents, but you can also try mininova, boxtorrentz (cookies must be enabled), Anime Yume, or Baka Updates:

Remember, if it was ever out on the internet, there's still a way to get it.
Basically, the best thing you can do to get yourself aquainted with your new client is to click around on it until you figure out how exactly it works. Torrents take more or less time dependingon how healthy the torrent is. If you have 2 seeders and 700 leechers, it is going to take a very long time, if not infinity. Just find the heathiest torrent you can, and wait for it. It sometimes helps to make things go faster if you torrent around 3 to 4 things at once, but too many will slow it down again.
To not get caught…
1. Don't torrent licensed shows
2. Don't seed shows once you're done torrenting. Especially for extended periods of time.
I think if you're caught you have to pay a hefty fine. That's all I've heard of, but, like Gorlom said, it depends on where you live.
I think downloading via IRC is best for manga, in case you want that too.
And I don't know about XP vs. Vista. I have XP.

But seriously. Most people are told to reformat and they erase all their drivers and they call asking why their internet won't work… apparently even XP doesn't have all the NICs listed, so they can't get online.
If you reformat, MAKE SURE you have the network card drivers.
Btw, Vista isn't as bad as everyone thinks. You just have to know how to work it.
But XP is more user-friendly when it comes to torrents, yes.

B) yeah, i keep it on at night. but you dont need to if you dont want to, since files doesnt need to be downloaded in one go.
how you do it pretty much depends on your internet habits.
if you dont like to have your comp on over the night then by all means shut it off. it will just take longer to download the files but it wont delete or corrupt the parts you have already gotten onto your computer.
how do you download in multiple goes?
what do you mean? dont you know how bittorrents works? (multiple goes are automatic)
