Kaidou apparantly translates into weird kid.
If the Shichibukai are so strong, then why havent they found One Piece?

My guess is that it's the guy who looks like Wanze here:

@MonkeyDMalcolm:
Theres no way Mihawk can beat shanks. Do you realize he is in possession of a pirate crew of enormous proportion. None of which have been captured by the government. The weakest one probably being the rock star dude with 80,000 dollar bounty. His first and second in command should be close to him in strength. Mihawk will not be able to defeat shanks because he has to get through his crew first. Mihawk wouldn't be able to defeat such a large number of people. If he could he wouldn't have become a shichibukai.
How old was Mihawk when he won the Title. What were the conditions. What was going on. Until all these are answered you can't flat out say Mihawk > Shanks. 2 yonkou not known could be swordsman and be stronger than Mihawk. Where was shanks at was shanks concerned about the title. Its funny Mihawk has the title but shanks has an amazing crew and is emperor.
Its not a title like in WWE or in boxing, its a title given to him by the author of the manga its not real life you know, and thats why there will be no swordmen who is stronger then him. He is to important to the plot for there to be anyone as strong or stronger then him in.

Shanks is infinitely more important to the plot than Mihawk. Especially since Shanks was the 3rd main character introduced in the entire manga, the first two being Roger and Luffy, respectively.
-
This is the stuff that only dreams are made of…........
It's called imagination.
-
@Sea:
Actually, there were Marines investigating Baroque Works prior to the Mugiwara arrival on Arabasta
There were? Must have skipped that part. Where was that?
-
It was just after they left Little Garden, remember? They wiretapped the conversation between Crocodile and Sanji, and they had Mr. 11 tied up and Smoker tricked him into confessing he was working on orders.
-
@Fire Fist:

But Shanks role is not to be the end goal for the swordman who wants to be the best in the world. Shanks can be 100 times stronger then Mihawk for all I care but he will never be a better swordman cause Oda has built up Mihawk as the best in the world for 9 years.
-

Ahh, now I get it. I understood it as if they would have investigated Baroque Works even before Smoker decided to follow Luffy.
Well then Crocodile was still pretty undercover even if the Marine got interested in BW because the conversation didn´t say a word about Crocodile but Mr. 0.
And if it wouldn´t have been for the Strawhats the Marine would have been pretty clueless even about that conversation seeing it that Smoker would never had captured Mr. 11. So in the end for Moria it will be just the same, undercover until the Strawhats screw everything up.
-
Well it makes sense if Kaidou is a Marine. 10 years ago is Moria was probably a pirate defeated by kaidou then becoming a shichibukai.
Mihawk holds a title to be surpassed. He while be surpassed the same way WB will become surpassed. Thats their role its not big its not important.
-

How did you come to that conclusion?
If you beat whitebeard you will be the closest man to One Piece and beating Mihawk is zoro's dream.
They both seem very important to me.

Maybe because we haven't seen any character development from them. It's kinda like dragon ball when goku and krillin are training to see who is stronger. If mihawk gets surpassed by zoro the we can assume luffy will surpass WB. But it will be interesting to see what luffy does on the second half of the GL

Well that doesn't negate their importance to the story, the defeat of those two will complete dreams and completely destroy the balance.
-

The balance is already being destroyed. Luffy defeating WB if he does do that will only be another stepping stone in accomplishing his dream.
-
Remember, Kidou could also be a marine.
That's Exactly what I'm betting on.
EDIT: Why do people believe that Mihawk is Stronger than Ol' Red Hair?
-
We were told the Yonkou are the 4 strongest by Garp. So that stands no matter what. We know Mihawk is the strongest swordsman. So that stands no matter what.
-
@MonkeyDMalcolm:

Defeating whitebeard would decimate the balance, you do know he is the strongest in the world. Defeating crocodile hasn't done much to the balance, although if mihawk were to be defeated, it would have a similar effect to whitebeards defeat.
Those two aren't stepping stones, they're the top of the ladder.
@Sea:
EDIT: Why do people believe that Mihawk is Stronger than Ol' Red Hair**?**
Because shanks is a swordsman and mihawk is above ALL swordsmen. That is what the manga has shown us so far. When it shows shanks not being a swordsman, we will know either one could be stronger.
But for now Mihawk>shanks
-
Lemme get this Straight:
So, Because Mihawk is better swordsmen than Shanks. We should automatically assume he's stronger Overall?
How does that makes any sense?
With that logic I guess Zoro's better than Luffy because he's a more proficient swords men..

He never said they were the strongest pirates ever of all time or what-not.
…And what's with all the colors?!
-
NOWhERe At all...just HE weIlds a SWord.
For display purposes?
We can Assume HE is Aworse _swor_dsman But NOT a WORSE FIGHTER, that is speculation.
The red book makes it clear he weilds a sword, has world class skills and was Mihawks rival. So if Mihawk is above all swordsmen, he is above shanks, which makes him a better fighter than shanks.
Like I said before if shanks shows he isn't a swordsman then it will be unknown as to who is stronger
-
**OiP, why would you do that?
why?**

For your theory to be right we have to assume that Red Hair Shanks is a infact Swordsmen, despite it never being stated.
If having a sword mean't you were a swordsmen, then everyone from generic marines to generic pirates would be swordsmen for weilding **_cutlasses and katana's
Besides using your "logic"
Ace is a lancefighter because he can summon Flame Lances and he's a christian because he has a Flame Cross._**
-
OiP, why would you do that?
why?
If you mean why am I wasting my time, well I guess I've got nothing better to do. If you mean something else give me a pm.

This was stated in the manga.

Wow, next time I post in the color scheme prediction thread I should start trying out the color thing too.
Oh and since this discussion is on an anal level, if Shanks is something then it´s a swordsman not swordsm_e_n.

Do you have proofs that Shanks is not a men?

I havn't been here for awhile, I hadn't realized "insanely horrible speculation based off wild assumptions" had become the de riguer for the manga subforum.
-

That's what I said, By the way your posting style is Great.
the last two pages of this thread were quite funny and people seem to be enjoying themselves but wasn't the initial question already answered on the first page :D ?
-
**The question was answered on the first page. This thread is now pointless.
So let's discuss whether or not shanks is a men.**
-
So let's discuss whether or not shanks is a men.
Considering his supernatural spirit powers i'd definitely say amen
-
Well said.
16 Characters
Question: ^ why do some people here write that at the end of their posts anyway?

Question: ^ why do some people here write that at the end of their posts anyway?
to pass the 16 characters stopping us from achieving freedom.
-
I see…
16 CHARACTERS (Lol)
Shanks is difidently as strong as a men, but he is only a man.
-
A men can be so complicated. like a clock.
-
This argument is so worn out.
Mihawk is a better Swordsman, but Shanks is infinitely more important to the plot of One Piece. It doesn't matter who's stronger.
Shanks' role is to be a hero to our protagonist, a pseudo-narrator of the past, and was the third major character introduced. Mihawk is just the world's greatest swordsman, and that's it. He's not really that important of a character as far as the story is concerned. He's Zoro's goal, sure. But other than that, he's useless.
-

Yeah, don'tcha know? After he lost his arm, he ate the split split fruit. He can split into hundreds of Shanks.
So he's a men.

so know your saying mihawk = WB.
We haven't seen the aftermath of what happen we don't know how its affected the balance so to say that it hasn't its ridiculous.

Do you know the meaning of similar?
We haven't seen the aftermath of what happen we don't know how its affected the balance so to say that it hasn't its ridiculous.
First of all I didn't say it hasn't affected the balance, I said it doesn't seem to have done much.
Now the fact Oda hasn't shown anything being out of balance, shows the balance seems to be holding out for now. When Oda shows us something we'll be able to judge, until then you must go by what is shown

Shanks was the first MAJOR character introduced and then Mihawk was the next. Shanks hasn't really done anything that Hawkeye's hasn't done but become a child's idol JUST like Mihawk did. Shanks has shown nothing to be "infinitely" important to the plot. Mihawk and Shanks importance is about even.
-
Ok, how I see it, (and I've said this before in other threads):
In swordsmanship:
Mihawk > Shanks
In all out free for all:
Mihawk = Shanks
(Or possibly Mihawk < Shanks given his spiritual power) -
@Fire Fist:
Yeah, don'tcha know? After he lost his arm, he ate the split split fruit. He can split into hundreds of Shanks.
So he's a men.
Yes! XD
If Shanks were a man, he would just be one Shank. Can you imagine, Luffy idolizing a Shank!? No. No, we can't have any of that. Shanks is definitely a men.
And to clear up that endless debate:
Mihawk is the strongest swordsman, and Shanks is the strongest swordsmen. THERE WE GO. No more arguing. :D

Where does it State that Shanks is a SWORDSMEN?
Info blurb on Shanks in One Piece RED (pg 152)…...
本来左ききであるシャンクスはかつて、右の腰に長剣を携えていた。 ミホークとライバルだった 過去からみて も、その剣の実力は世界でもトップクラスだったのだろう
"At first, the left-handed Shanks had simply carried his sword on the right side. When he was a rival of Mihawk, he was regarded as having some of the world's top-class skills."
Literal translation….....
"Shanks, who is naturally left-handed, once held his long sword on his right hip. Even looking from the past where he and Mihawk were rivals, that sword's skill/power was the top class in the world."
Not to mention it states in the Manga that Shanks and Mihawk had "Legendary Duels!" Now for some more canon…...........
Shanks ALWAYS had his "long sword" since the beginning of One Piece.
http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceManga/onepiecechapter01.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=29Shanks used a sword on Gold Roger's ship.
http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceMangav-2/chapter434hq.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=9746As you can see Shanks casually asks Mihawk for a match (That is what rivals do).
http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceManga/onepiecechapter96.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1907Just another pic with his "long sword."
http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceManga/onepiecechapter234.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=4522And Finally attacks Whitebeard (The strongest Man in the World) with his Sword!
http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceMangav-2/chapter434hq.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=9751
Also Shanks projected a "Spirit" which KO'd the lesser members of Whitebeard's ship, an intangible power that something Zoro only has displayed, a SWORDSMAN.Shanks is a swordsman all the facts point to it and in my opinion Shanks and Mihakw WILL be the Final bosses for Luffy and Zoro!!!!
