Shooting at Virginia Tech – Over 30 Dead

The hammer pic was lame.

good god
Yup!
And I think the sad part is that Bush is now going to turn to Korea instead of Iraq.
He'll call it the new Asian Axis of Evil! Nooooo! Bush will turn anywhere, use American citizens' fear to gain power and control over other countries (like Iraq), and now he's going to eye Asia, with China, Japan, North Korea and South Korea posing a threat to American economy, government, and power!
…
._.
I sure hope he won't do it.1666666 chsracters

Well, The Westburo Baptist Church is always appearing at events like these. The did these protests at the Amish shooting as well holding signs sayinig all the victims were in Hell. They are nutjobs…just look at this video...
and
http://www.youtube.com/verify_age?next_url=/watch%3Fv%3DeL37SoeEyr0 (flagged)Also, North Korea is already considered part of the Axis of Evil. and President Bush, along with 99% of the populace realize this was an act by an individual.

The dude is South Korean.
-
Already posted about the Westboro thing.
And i think it's funny how because the shooter was South Korean the y think President is going to be like "HYUK HYUK KILL ALL THOSE SLANTEYES! VIRGINIA TECH NEVER FORGET"
-
Its te first post that bothers me the most.
That guy can't stub his toe without blaming the government. He's the most insane person Iv'e ever met on Gaia, this is basically all he ever posts, batshit insanity. -
So the government got a South Korean student to shoot 50 people so they could have an excuse to BAN GUNS FOREVER
-
The mere fact that the media continuously focuses on the shooter's Korean nationality is simply dumbass-ery. A Korean can pull a trigger just as easily as an American, African, Finn, Lybian, etc.
-
The hammer pic was lame.
Indeed it was. But what's even lamer is how because of that image and the shooter's nationality, some media sources are claiming that Park Chan-Wook's film, Oldboy, was an inspiration, or whatever you want to call it, for the Virginia Tech incident. How utterly ridiculous.
Beyond that, though, I find it very hard to care about this in any real way. As callous as it sounds, this is just one more drop in the shit spitoon that is the contemporary human condition. It's also just yet another school massacre, and it's not even the worst one in American history unless you're inclined to casually disregard the 1927 bombing at Bath Elementary.
I'm tired of hearing about this in the news. Regardless of how admittedly tragic the Virginia Tech incident was, I can't help but to see it as an immediate distraction from everything else that's going on in the world.

This is old news….people need to quit bringing it up and the fact that nbc showed footage of that selfish, pious, little bitch, is going to insipre more people to do exactly what he did.

NBC, the network of choice for mass murderers
-
The footage is actually vital in trying to understand why this happened and perhaps ways to prevent so NBC isn't in any way at fault for airing it
-

Name-calling is just making you look stupid and insensitive.
I'm going to say he had "issues" rather than simply insulting him and his family and simply plop into the group of "bad guys".
People that try to fit humans into little groups are assholes.

this statement… contradicts itself.

….um....i'm not putting him into a group, i don't put people into groups, maybe you do, but i don't and i think that each person on this earth is different.
secondly i don't care if he had mental problems, what he did was selfish, and what he did hurts people, i frankly don't feel damn sorry for that asshole at all. Hope he rots in hell. The reason why i'm angry really right now is because they are putting all that air time just for him. you know what kinda of idea this gives people. hey you know what maybe i'll just kill 30 or so people so i can be famous for like a whole freakin month. The news stations regardless, need to quit this, cause this is going to turn into a catostrophe and inspire more psychopaths to this stuff.
Morever, on the mental note issue , if he had mental problems his parents would obviously know about it. since his parents apperantly knew about it, they obviously didn't freakin care, cause you know what there are options, there ways of saying help my son needs help, even if they didn't have the money the government should have been able to help them, the could have asked colleges, instutions, hospitals, if they even cared enough.
And about this whole Gun control uproar issue is stupid.... ok the kid had an automatic weapon which is illegal to even own an automatic weapon. One at this point must assume that this kid got this weapon illegall, so compalining about gun rights is useless because no legal weapon store even sells automatic weaopns
there i said my peace....i'm finished

It's like watching a replay of a well played game. Replays are essential for pros and it's inevitable that at some point a brave individual (probably some nolifer) will try to beat this Cho guy's new high score. 32 is a pretty big combo though so it needs to be a heck of a killing spree - and the weapon of choice needs to be just perfect (it's amazing what some people can do just with pistols but I would probably pick a rocket launcher, or a sniper but I have never been too good with those).
-
Blah, too many replies. But, Greg, so this dude would had killed over 30 persons with a fork too?
Ask Japanese subways riders what killers are capable of if guns are't readily available.
People are adept at killing massive amounts of people if they want to. Leading a charge against guns is stupid/pointless.
More control? All for it. I think it should be made hard as hell to purchase a gun. But even if they're illegal, people who shouldn't have them will get them.
I mean drugs are illegal and well…yeah ^O^
-
He could of made a dirty bomb.
But anyway,he was more American than Korean to me. He moved here when he ws 8. That is American if anything.

I'm inclined to disagree. Seeing as how it's basically the guy being a little prick and going "yeah you rich fags put me into a corner now I'm gonna bust some caps in yo' asses I didn't have to do this but it's all your fault you gave me no choice I hate you all," I highly doubt anyone, especially the average TV viewer, will find hidden psychological nuggets of wisdom. Airing the tapes is exactly what the guy wanted, and it's glorifying an idiot who should just be forgotten.

I was talking about this with my Psych professor, and one big thing is the guy's speech patterns. If you notice it's very rambling and hard to follow, which is a common symptom of schizophrenia. I mean, this whole thing is just so unbelievable, and things like this that can help us understand how 50 people can get shot like this are important, I think.
I mean, I'm not trying to say that the only reason the guy did it was because of schizophrenia. The guy was obviously a basketcase and an asshole. It's just trying to figure out how someone can be an asshole to this extent.
-
But still, showing it to the public? I mean, I could understand having NBC hire some guys to inspect the footage, but showing the video itself on national television just gives the guy this undeserved "fame," and just… makes it harder for people to move on, you know?
Last year, a police officer a few cities over from where I live was shot and killed. It was the first time in almost twenty years that one had died on duty. It was a pretty big blow to the communty and the surrounding area, and the local press reported the hell out of it. Week after week, there would be a headline on the front page with something like "funeral plans continue" or "the city moves on." It was endless. The same thing seems to be happening now with the shootings. Of course, there should be reports on the incident as new details emerge, but promoting what happened, and especially the perpetrator, so endlessly and persistently, is just unneccesary, and it's not like the videos are something the public needs to see because they have to know anyway.
-
With respect to culture, the reasons for what he did MAY be rooted in the very fact that he wasn't American.
That isn't to say anything about Koreans or otherwise, rather under the circumstances which he was raised.
Those of you who have moved when you were children know the trauma of losing friends and making new ones. Now imagine moving to a new COUNTRY. Although many, many children are eventually able to adapt, it's not only their part, it's also their parents. Their parents obviously were raised in another country and have an entirely different way of thinking from square one. A child then receives drastically mixed signals from their parents' way of thinking and those that surround them every day at school.
It's a massive mind-fuck and I don't wish it on anyone.
That said, seeing this attack as coming from a "South Korean" is stupid. It came from a human.
-
Is there still a lot of coverage on this and the video? I don't watch the news so I'm not sure.
I think extensively re-airing the tape is unnecessary, but I can't fault NBC for showing. I honestly don't see it as "glorification" sense all you see is an angry screwball babbling incoherently.
-
I haven't been keeping up recently, so I don't know if stations are still showing it now, but around Thursday they were, and you can see it online and everything. Actually, a couple stations declined to show it, calling it "pornography" and the like.
-
Yeah, a lot of stations out here have stopped talking about the subject entirely. In recent days, I've heard more about Simon Cowell's reaction to a contestant mentioning the killings than the killings themselves.
-

Simon Cowell was reacting to nasal singing or something.
-
I have trouble believing Cowell on that.
This made me realize how crappy the saftey at work is. A person could carry a gun onto the campass easily. All you have to do when you enter is sign your name, not tell security what you're here for or have them check you for any weapons. I'm talking to the vice principles a lot, but not many of them are listening. -__- Don't I feel safe.
-
According to the local paper, Cho killed himself in Room 211, surrounded by victims playing dead. That's got to be real frightening, to see the shooter's dead body fall by your face. The paper also says it took some time for police to get in the school building because Cho was barracated the doors.
Smart kid. Psycho, but smart.
-
I'd think it'd be more of a relief actually…
-
I dunno i'd be pretty afraid because i wouoldn't know if he had undead powers and could get back up and shoot all of us after we stopped playing dead
-
i imagines that he could just shoot every one in the head on the ground instead of putting himself in a position where he could get jumped

-
I heard the first part of the radio program they were on in exchange for not protesting.
It was… sick and twisted.
-
Oh lordie. I saw a magazine at the supermarket today with the headline "Virginia Tech Gunman: his secret gay life"
The news tabloids are shameful.
-
Yes, but things can get even worse than that.
Ok, seriously, because Jacko the Wacko suggests(before they even identify who the killer is) that the guy played video games, and that the kids at Columbine played Doom maps of their school(both of which are NOT true) suddenly they go arresting kids for playing games with maps that are similar to schools.
What's next? Each map for every game with a map editor(I can name 3 off the top of my head, Counterstrike Warcraft 3 and Halo for the PC) needs to have each map looked at, and those with floorplans similar to any school should have the creator and anyone who played it arrested or something?
If they are going this far, how do they know the 40 year old guy 2 blocks away isn't playing a custom Halo 2 map to kill all the 5 year olds at the local elementary school?
Seriously, it's insane, it's unfounded, no one can regulate everything, and
I'm starting to think the people who suggest this stuff need to be shot. -
Well, people tend to overreact. That whole map might have been because it was a large place that they could visualize. Anyway, I do agree that it was an overreaction for them to report the game map. But common sense doesn't account for much these days.
