Did you guys see the dubtitles on Wikipedia? I kind of wish those were the real ones for the new dub, but hopefully Funimation will make them stay close to the original.
-
They did that once with Pokemon too. One episode is called "Flower Power" and another years later was called "Now THAT'S Flower Power!". Apparantly they don't know how to keep track of their own shit.
While I agree on your reasoning for how DBZ rose in popularity, Ao Kiji, I don't think that's outright the ONLY reason as to why Toei gave them the license to the series. I'm not saying it couldnt've been a factor into them finally getting it, but business with stuff like this isn't as cut and dry as that.

Ya I saw. I was wondering where that info on the titles came from hopefully the tittle of the sub will be the same in the dub

I think "Now THAT's Flower Power!" was a Pokemon USA era episode, so I wouldn't be surprised if they forgot 4Kids had already used that pun before.
Now, using the exact same episode title twice?
-
This means there is a very good chance that the new dub will air on the 29th. They called it the Great Escape 2 because there was another dub ep known as "The Great Escape."

Thank you for that information.
-
The new dub must air on the 29. Unless we get another Naruto marathon. It would be great if Funi kicked off the dub with two back to back episodes. I'm looking forward to OP marathons in the future.
-
@Ao:
DBZ was taken off the air so many times, and the whole "skipping straight to z' thing happened partially because it was unpopular.
You mean Dragon Ball aired first in the states?
-
You mean Dragon Ball aired first in the states?
The first attempt at dubbing it was back in the 80's by Harmony Gold but no one watched it. Then there was another attempt in 1995 which also failed.
-
He right, but there was another try in 1992, but it was taken off after two episodes,
-
it was taken off after two episodes,
That's just what happened to Wulin Warriors! And the main guy had Goku's voice for the dub. They gave it a rap intro too, with lots of pizza puns.
^Can you BELIEVE how Funimation dubbed this tragety? It's worse then 4Kids One Piece.
(although that puppet looks really bad @ss at 00:26 seconds xD)But it's so horrible it's awesome. Another reason why I have the 4Kids "Gum Gum Rap" on my Ipod… xD
EDIT: Wow, this show is actually pretty cool uncut....
(sasori would be proud) -
FUNimation is NOT responsible for Wulin Warriors. That's Animation Collective's handywork there.
-

Sweet MOTHER oF CORN!!! I just watched the ENTIRE first episode on You Tube xD I can't stop laughing!!
That's Animation Collective's handywork there.
Are you certain? It had Goku's VA as the main character. Didn't you guys say that the companies generally "own" their voice actors?

Goku's voice actor also works at 4Kids. In fact, he doesn't work at FUNi anymore unless he needs to record some Goku lines for games and such.
FUNi didn't dub Wulin Warriors.
-
I'm pretty sure Schemmel lives in New York now, which is where companies like 4kids, Animation Collective, and Media Blasters are based. And yeah, I the only connection I think he has to FUNi now is reprising his role as Goku.
-
Haha, I had a friend who brought bootlegs of that show back with him from Taiwan. We shared many laughs over it's awesomeness. I had no idea it ever appeared on US television.

Similarly, most of voice actress Luci Christian's work is at ADV. But she'll be lending her voice to Funimation as Nami.
-
Huh, guess she was really interested in the role.
-
Huh, guess she was really interested in the role.
If by "role", you mean "roll of money"…
Don't you know that VA's get paid by the word? Anyone who plays a character with a huge mouth, such as Nami, is sure to make a fortune.
-
-
Thank you, Tonfa.
-
Only thing needed for this reply.
-

nope, I'm pretty sure this was LONG before any of that weny down. One was during Johto and one was during Houen.
However, these same people, even WAY back when, didn't even realize that Charmander was going to be a recurring character WHILE they were dubbing an episode in Season 1, when he's captured IN the episode, blatantly.
Pokeymanz-language aside, in conclusion, the people at this company don't know what the fuck they're doing in general, and I wouldn't be surprised if some bigger company buys them out and they quietly disappear from U.S. television in general.
EDIT: Actually Lobster, Anime VAs are paid by the hour, not by word. Not sure who told you that, but they're incorrect, unless they're doing union jobs in which case that might be on different grounds, but I doubt "by word" is the case for that either. Though the fact that Nami has more lines than some of the other Strawhats still factors into how much they'd get, but when doing anime voicework, money's usually not the first thing on people's minds. 9 outta 10 times they do it because it's fun and they love to act. If they wanted to make money, they'd be trying to be doctors or lawyers.
-
Huh, guess she was really interested in the role.
Funi and ADV "share" a lot of their VAs because they're both based in Texas.
And LPS, I guess you missed that Schemmel interview I posted a few weeks ago, he really doesn't care much for working for Funi anymore.
-
Also to clarify, companies don't "own" voice actors. That's the reason why you'll see ADV and FUNimation using different people in Texas. Their studios are 6 hours away from each other, yeah, but they're all still places to do voicework. That's also why certain people will come to LA to record certain things, and most recently people from LA coming down to Texas for stuff, mostly in FUNimation's case. Unless it's a union job, where things get a little more complicated and you can only do certain jobs (and even then there are exceptions to those rules), and then there are cases of contractual issues if it's a specific character voice that can't be used in something else (4Kids likes to do that. A lot). Other than those few exceptions, most general anime VAs are simply "freelancers" for whatever's close by.
-
Yeah thats why its easy for almost anybody to get a voicce acting job. If you did it for the money, you'll starve to death.
-

As others have said, this isn't true. And, voice actors really aren't paid all that much. Some might even say "underpaid". Which is why they register for so many other roles, you can't live off of one character role. Well, maybe if it's a really important character with a lot of lines/episodes. They probably do it for fun. Hell, I know I would like to voice a character, only if I had any talent.
0h,um.. Anyone else gonna flick off their TV as the last seconds of 4K!Ds last episode airs on Toonami ? Just to show how we feel that our favorite dub is going to leave us…

I typically flick it off when the first seconds of a 4Kids episode air…

well it does depend on what you're VAing really. I mean Don LaFontaine, the movie guy, makes $14 million a year. People who VA in movies generally get a lot of money too. Not to mention commercials and stuff…
or did you just mean in anime? cause then I don't know.

haha, that was funny

Meh, its just a bad dub, but its a good background noise.

… That guy.. Has the same last name as me. LaFontaine.
… Um anyway, I was really only talking about anime.

I typically used to do this too, before I heard about the dub. I used to ask my bro to do this too, and he did. It was just a little effort to get the show canceled. However, now that Funi's dub is coming, sometimes we try to watch as much as we can stand. My brother has more of a tolerance for the 4kids dub then I, and I have to admit that the 4kids dub has some "so bad it's good moments." Like that Rainbow Mist edit where Zoro is messing with one of Sanji's lolipops! Genius.
I figure that since Cartoon Netwrok probably views 4kids and Funi's One Piece as the same show, then as this can only help the new dub right? To have as many people watch as possible…if they can stand it.
-
@Tommy:
You and me both.
hey,Same here:sad:

i think that when they see the sudden influx of new viewers, they'll have no choice but to view them separately. they'll probably start putting on more marathons and stuff too.
just my guess. -
I'm a bit nervous about Funimation's dub voice for Vivi… Funimation tends to give alot of girls generic high pitched "cheer leader" voices. (which I hope Nami doesn't get either) But Crocodile will most likey be fine (because Funi seemes to have a limitless supply of bad @ss voices).
But, you never know…

Though I know it'll be never as bad as 4kids Vivi.
Ah.. that scream was awful…
-
Heso!
I am really looking forward to finding out who will be Vivi. I have faith that they will get someone who will be both strong and sweet. It would be interesting to me if they went with one of their newer female VAs.
I have be rewatching my Fruits Basket and I kind of get a smile when I think that Eric Vale did Yuki Sohma who is called Prince Yuki and now he is Sanji who called himself Mr. Prince. Anyway I am looking forward to see how Eric Vale will handle his Sanji. I have heard him in many different parts so I am looking forward to it.
However I guess this should be talked about in the Funi VAs post.

Uh…In what series did they give their girl characters "generic high pitched cheerleader voices"?

I was just listening to the voice of the person (playing another role) who will be playing Nami, and she just sounded like that "typical highschool girl dub voice" they always use.
Actually…. (thinks)
I wonder if Winry's VA would be good for Vivi.
It might not sound too bad. -
Nah, Winry's VA (or at least that voice) doesn't fit Vivi.
-
I wouldn't mind if Luci Christian used her Ringo voice from Air Gear for Nami…well at least I think it'd sorta fit.
-
Acording to Toon Zone member Matt Hazuda, the Funimation Episode titles have been revealed. Only one problem. We aren't aloud to know  . But it's not a pun or that fake wikipedia one (The Log Pose is Taken. Salvage King Masira!).
…
Only 16 daye left. WHOO!
-
Sooo…does that mean they are coming up with their own episode titles instead of translating, but at he same time not making them stupid/silly?
-

I'd imagine Colleen could play Vivi using her "Rose" from FMA voice. It seems to be pretty close to the vein of the seiyuu.
Also LPS, like I said before, check out Nami's VA in Negima. I found it to be annoying until I actually watched a few more eps and she's a good actress, who does a nice job with the angry pissed off moments AND the sweet vulnerable ones. Most VA's I've heard either veer to far into sounding bitchy ALL the time or sound to weak even during scenes where they're screaming and angry. She does a good job with a similar character type in Negima. Still, I'm not a giant Nami fan or anything so her voice isn't as important to me as it may be to the small group of elite DIEHARD Nami fans. But honestly, I honestly, I find the voice rather cute. Which I don't feel listening to the Japanese, not to mention it could be ALOT worse. They do have ALOT of teen-girl voices now(which is a good thing since uptil now they were always way to old sounding imho. The VA's for young characters I mean).
BTW as far as other voice actors besides Mignona who I'd like NOT to hear with a main role in this dub…Greg Ayres. And I LOVED him as Chrno! And I got used to and eventually enjoyed his Negi. Honestly, after hearing he would play my fave character from NHK ni Yokoso, despite me feeling like he wasnt the right fit the same way I did with Koyuki..I just feel like studios are overusing that guy to an extreme level. He's like the geeky version of Steve Blum. Anytime there's a soft spoken or indecisive character casting directors seem to go "AYRES!" right away or something..

Wait, the one that wiki made up was.
The Stolen Log, Sal King Masira.
Then one The greatPirateKing made was the actually episode title. -

Omg… You're right. I never thought about that xD

Hey, I'm not a huge Nami fan either, it's just that she has more lines then the rest of the crew combined (during group episodes). Anyway, this is what I mean by the "typical dub voice" Nami might get.
^There, that's a perfect example, so you know what "voice" I'm refering to.
(which the person was clearly intending to do as a spoof)But I've actually heard official dubs like that…
But I do have a some faith in Funi… (well, not their advertizing anyway)
