I think it's more or less because we're getting uncut DVD's anyways.

For me, it's both. 4Kids bastardized the entire show to market it to 7 year olds, and that particular reason is why I hated the lollipop. As CosmicDebris stated, 4kids just went ahead and voluntarily made edits left and right. But if keeping the lollipop ensures that One Piece has a chance to be successful, I'll deal with it since we're getting Uncut DVD's anyway.

That is a very good question. We will probably get a definitive answer at AnimeCon in their press release, otherwise someone should go to the convention and ask.

Suggestion: In the very first commercial, show a clip of Bellamy getting one shot, this is one of the best scenes in the anime, aside from current events.

Something like, One Piece is back, and more serious then ever. With the crew finally out of the desert, it's time for an all new saga to begin. The Strawhat Pirates are wanted all over the world after the incident in Arabasta, and the real journey to becoming King of The Pirates is soon to begin.

Put tons of spoilers in the commercial, clips of Bellamy, Sengoku, Mihawk, Blackbeard, Flamingo and Kuma. I know when DBZ had new seasons coming out, and they put the badass scenes from the Opening in it, I was drawn in. Like seeing SS3 Goku for the first time. Also Skypiea scenes are needed.

Maybe end the commercial with Enel zapping someone.

I like your idea, but instead of Enel zapping someone have a quick clip of Gan Fall, Robin, Wiper, and Zoro looking intense ready fight Enel, or tiny bits of Wiper Vs. Luffy during the beginning parts of the Surival Game, when the Wiper fires his Boozoka, while Luffy getting ready to attack Wiper at the same time.

I think it will stay intact. FUNI doesn't seem to mind showing japanese stuff in there. (Unlike 4kids, whom I heard actually wanted to HIDE the fact that the shows are japanese.) I do know that they left some of the japanese insert-songs in their Dragonball-dub, at least. (But others were strangely missing, without anything to replace them, which created some pretty awkward scenes…)

I highly suggest that Funi keeps Zoro's name as "Zoro", not "Zolo".

Answer: FUNimation will begin dubbing for television broadcast where 4kids left off, right at the beginning of the Jaya Arc, episode 144. The new episodes will start airing in August on Cartoon Network. They are currently debating releasing the first 143 episodes Uncut on DVD first, and they are also debating to instead release Uncut DVD's from Episode 144 onward.

There's your answer right there.

I'm talking DBZ or Naruto style promos. Not those 10 second promos that Bobobo or Zatch Bell got. Long promos, showing awesome scenes, almost like an AMV.

Yep! It was that same DBZ promo I was talking about. The first time seeing Super Saiyan 3 gave me chills.

One thing I can't wait to see, Brand New World. INCREDIBLE opening. Seeing Gear 2nd for the first time will surely bring in more watchers (people love the power up things.)

I'd still rather see something other than the Lollipop, mainly to disassociate it with the 4kids dub more completely. Hell, the best idea would to color the cigarette a darker color, edit out the smoke, and say he's chewing on a pen. It would seem much less unnatural to hold a pen like that than it would a Lollipop, and when the cigarette bends, it could be passed off as bite marks.

Also, both can be considered bad habits, although smoking is a more hazardous habit to ones health.

Random question: Does anyone know if Love Hina was ever aired on cable television? One of the characters in that show always had an unlit cig in her mouth. I know the editing rules may have been different based on the channel it was airing on, but just wondering.

I got a question:

What will Funimation do about the Enies Lobby arc? As far as most of us know, that arc seems to have a lot of government-related material that might start some huge controversy.

I can't imagine that there'd be any huge problem with it. At least, I'd hope that people could tell the difference between a fictional government that actually seems pretty well-meaning (Keeping in mind that pirates are supposed to be a menace to the public) that just has a branch led by a crazy guy and the real government. We're keeping in mind here that the main characters ARE pirates, and pirates are supposed to be "bad guys."

Then again, whenever you have something, anything, someone's bound to take it the wrong way.

Government corruption and taking on the government is a prevelant theme in the media. American or otherwise. There are plenty of TV shows and movies that depict people going up against a corrupt or evil government, and that stuff goes by fine, even if that "corrupt government" happens to be the US government. I doubt a corrupt fictional government would be a problem.

Maybe I missed someone mentioning it, but region-free is a good thing.

I understand several of the official OP dubs in Europe and elsewhere are not considered 'enthusiast calibre', so I could see definitely some people there importing a high-quality dub or sub release, even if it was in English. Especially if it's price-competitive to importing the Japanese DVDs.

I noticed One Piece gets lame 4Kids background music with stuff like a terrible Luffy voice going "YEAH! I'm gonna be king of the pirates!" and show random stuff of people just sitting there.

**I HATE bearing bad news like this, I must say this. I was just recently at a convention and while Mike McFarland and Christine Auten were answering questions from the audience. They were asked about what roles would they like to be in One Piece since FUNi now has One Piece. However they were actually puzzled about it when they first heard the question. (Heck Christine "Izumi Curtis" Auten openly admitted that she never even heard of the show though Mike McFarland has though.) But the thing is apparently Mike had no idea about the very idea of FUNi getting to take over the dub for One Piece. In fact one of his first reactions to it, namely when someone told him that FUNi has taken over the OP dub he said "They have?" pretty clearly.

Does this mean that the whole news about FUNi taking over the OP dub is a hoax? Or was he trying to evade that particular question or something like that? I dunno there seems to be strong evidence of that article being fake. But for some reason I can't help but wonder if I shouldn't jump into conclusions so quickly. Again I hate to bring bad news, but I'd just thought I warn you all about this. Especially if someone does jump into the conclusion of how the article might be a fraud.**

It's possible that McFarland and Auten were unaware that the news was revealed, and pretended to know nothing about it. That's my guess anyway.

I can explain this.

I often speak to, if not people directly IN the industry, people who know other people. Some aqquaintences of mine that have ins, or relationships with people in FUNimation have actually known about this for quite some times, and only recently have said "Ah, NOW I can talk about it."

By comparison, Caitlin Glass responded, when I asked her about the character she'd be playing in Tsubasa, "What character in Tsubasa?". Then apologized later, since she wasn't 100% about if she was even allowed to speak about that or not.

When it gets down to it, it's both a business thing, and a marketing thing. Certain people aren't allowed to talk about certain things until a specified time, with their logic being that if people learn about something so early, that by the time it actually comes out, that the hype ruins it and no one cares anymore. It's understandable, despite how inconveniant for us it is.

And that is excellent news to hear that Luffy's attacks are all what they are in the Japanese version.

It's amazing how tiny tidbits of information like this will cheer us up. I guess it's been clear since day one that FUNimation is going to do this show right, even if that "day one" was just last Friday!

And I will continue to edit the FAQ section to add questions or modify previous questions, so as long as you're willing to correct me when I make a mistake, the FAQ's will be as accurate as possible :)

I read that Viz said that they were going to plan on leaving the sanji lolipop, because cartoon network doesnt allow cigars and beer. But, Asuma from the Naruto series still have his cigar. But I think they modified it so it looks like a white stick instead of a cigar. Wouldnt it be better if they just do the same instead of the damn lolipop.
I hope funamation does the same thing as Viz.
Viz has improve a lot with Naruto.

He can't really answer that because he doesn't deal with the dub. He only deals with the uncut subs.
