@Roz:
I have to wonder if Iceberg's "Nma"s will actually be translated as a word or a noise (I prefer to think of it as a noise.). It sounds a lot to me like "Well," but then again I don't know crap about Japanese. I just hope that the fact that he says something/makes some little sound before he says most things is kept, because I love that. :3
It's not TOO uncommon, well, at least a long thoughtful "maaaa" is pretty common. We try to keep little special character traits documented for the writers to do as they see fit. So it probably won't be overlooked if I'm still around when FUNi gets there.
@LC:
Just a few little random questions from me (I apologize in advance if they've already been answered or if they seem pointless).
- Masira's whole "Do I really look that Monkeyed up" joke.
- It's Devil Fruit now, right? We fixed "Cursed Fruit", right?
- Roshio the Executioner (the guy Bellamy kills) is still that, right?
- We've talked about cigarettes - lollipops, but I forget the solutions discussed for Noland and Wiper. Wiper's in particular looks more like a cigar than a cigarrette, brown and fuzzy.
- Laki (one of the Shandians) or Lucky? Or something else?
EDIT1 - Bartholomew "Kuma" or Bartholomew "Bear"? It's a name, soooooo….. I dunno.
As to the whole Choppers "Boosts" versus "Points", I still don't understand why it's so difficult to change back. He'll be using it as early as 147, so it's priority.
Unless this is the problem:
Chopper : "Horn Point!"-
Random Guy : Did he just say penis?
1. I'm not sure, I don't think I handled too many Masira episodes.
2. Devil Fruit, yes. That's what we've been using since Day 1. I expect the dub to use the same, but since I'm not a dub guy I can't say for certain. I don't see any reason for them to use Cursed Fruit though.
3. Funnily enough, this came up today. It's Roshio now, we were using Rossio beforehand. I can't find any definitive origins for his name, though Rossio does turn up lots of Pirate of the Caribbean stuff. Him and Sarquiss I haven't been able to find any definitive sources on.
4. I don't know, that's TV dub editing dept. stuff. They could probably just cut out any smoke there is and say it looks like a weed or something (though I know they're rare in the clouds :P) Isn't he chewing one as a kid anyway?
5. Was Raki at first, now Laki. Lucky hadn't even entered my mind.
6. Kuma.
7. Again, it's not so much a difficulty thing as it is a "only new Jaya & Skypiea terms were looked at". And like I've mentioned before, it apparently takes a while to get approval or even just responses :ermm:
I can understand why Toei/4Kids decided to go with "Boost", but hopefully we'll get to change it for the subs.
@TakinawaTonfa:
Are you serious? Oh man….
Well if you can't say what it was going to be, or any of the other wacky names for that matter, how about something that rhymes with them?
Yeah, "gravity blue" was mentioned in the English Pirates Carnival game. The name used on scans and subs is "blue sea dwellers"
Oh and off topic, love the new avatar Mato, its uniquely you, y'know?
Actually, I think it'd be funnier to see what alternate names people here could come up with
My new avatar is courtesy of a cool forum dweller over at Starmen.Net. My current avatar over there is pretty sad, and gets mistaken for a taco sometimes.
Behold, the Going Mato!
@RobinNami:
Heso!
Mato: Sounds like things are going well. I am glad that it is going to be Skypiea. It would be so strange otherwise. Here is a good one. Will it be Vearth or Varse? I am not sure if you were asked that one. It is a good question with Wiper, Noland, and Cricket will they get to smoke since they are older and not main characters. I really love your new avatar. It is neat!
It used to be Varse, as you can see in some of the games. Right away we were like, uhh, what? We managed to get it changed to Vearth when we got all that mantra, etc. stuff fixed. We're also using Fairy Vearth for the subs, I'm hoping the dub will use it too, but judging from the list and the games, Endless might be used instead. If that seems weird, it's not TOO crazy, because "Fairy" is just the furigana for 限りない, which means limitless, endless, etc. I guess that's where that came from.
How old is Wyper anyway? I never thought about it.
@Quexinos:
I can't believe 4Kids wanted to rename Skypia… no wait I can believe it
can I put it on the site that they were going to rename it or would that be a bad idea?
There's probably no need to. That's kind of why I'm wary of revealing other names, it could just stir up more negativity, you know?
@theAMAZINGboo:
I'd like to give a late THANKS to FUNI for saving One Piece. And yadda yadda I love you guys.
Anyway, for Mato (awesome work you're doing); You wouldn't happen to be at Luffy's song yet would you? I'm just really interested in seeing what that will be translated to. Though I guess that's more of a dub question. ..Which renders this question pointless.
Ahh..well.
His forest song? If that's what you mean, then I did that a while back. I just tried to translate it as normally as possible. I also included some notes for the writers so they could have some extra info about it.
@RomanGod:
Really? Wow. That's odd, because, in the games, they left it as Skypeia. Though, they also left in Climatact and later changed it to Weather Forcer, so it wouldn't be outta the question if the decided to change it last-minute.
Thanks for correcting that, though.
Yeah, some things here in the list they seemed to ignore. That was smart of 'em. Maybe someyear I'll write my memoirs about dealing with the list
