OK the zombies numbers are really bothering me so i thought we all could start speculating about them.
Ivotas mentioned something in another thread that got me started.
Oda always puts in numbers to showcase a rank among the antagonists. In Arabsta it was the number-names of the BW agents, in Enies Lobby it was the Doriki of the CP9ers and in Skypiea it was the survival rate of the Priest´s trials.
and apart from that theres the whole bounty deal between pirates.
But what is up with the numbers on the zombies in thriller bark?
Edit: put in this list of numbers instead of the sketchy ideas i had.
Wild (Creature) zombies:
1= zombie penguin nr1
2= zombie penguin nr2

29= Wild zombie (small moustached thing beside the big panda zombie number 83)
36=Garden zombie: kangaroo-zebra the second man-tree in the forest also has this number.
37=Zombie lion
42=Zombie unicorn

889=Large Zobmie General"Strongest special zombie in the history":
SZ-900= Special Zombie named "Oz" containing Luffy's shadowNamed zombies without numbers:
(Absolom)
(Perona)
Ryuuma
Sluggish Captain John
Unnamed Fourarmed Gunslinger (errr why is he counted amongst the named Zombies you ask? simply because he seems special enough)
Lola the Warthog Bride
Tararan the spider monkey or monkey spider (commander of the S500? is he S1?)
Nin, Gyoro and Bao (they are the guys wakeing up Moria, Nin is the one with the bow, they are opening the special freezer in 456)
Bearsy (the hushed paddingless plushy)
why has docktor hogback waited with completeing 741 "mario"? if it was because he wanted a stronger spirit and numbers indicates strenght wouldnt the number be higher? and if the number indicates when its done wouldnt it still be higher as its not finished?
or is he just repairing mario because mario lost the shadow that reanimated him?
and since the newer zombies doesn't have higher number it doesnt seem to be in the order they are finished either…
(odd stuff)
-the penguin trio doesnt seem to have any numbers (we got a 360 degree view and i cant find it). instead the penguins seem to state their numbers when they introduce themselves.
-can't seem to find ruymas number either for that matter but that could be under his clothes, Lola, capt john and possibly absoloms and peronas numbers are also missing.
As i cant seem to find any other consistancy im starting to wonder if the numbers are only an indication to what group of zombies they belong to? (Edit: i am now convinced that is the case thanks to Bogia)
Edit: adding my opinions so that they dont have to be brought up again for peopl that doesnt want to brows through the thread.
_@Rai:
As far as we know, ANY strong shadow can be placed randomly into ANY body made of strong parts._
I agree with that, if the shadows need to be somewhat compateble with the body why was sanji's shadow given to a penguin? and why was the ledgendary flesh of a dragonslayer given the shadow of a skeletal musician?
Since we belive any strong shadow can be placed in any strong body why hasn't he completed the bodies (with pairing them with shadows) in numerical order? Why is Jigoroh's number lower then that of other already completed general zombies if any strong shadow would have done the trick? Is the numbers indicateing when he started on them? When he finished them? or their relative strenght? or are the numbers indicateing nothing at all?
It has been pointed out that Hogback might have bodies ready for shadows prepared somewhere, i agree with the point of view that he has bodies stockpiled. I just dont understand why a stockpiled body has lower number then an already complete zombie.
My opinion is that its an unnecessary long wait for a shadow, not in time but in relation to finding a shadow for all the other bodies! shadows doesnt seem to need a perfect fit so why has he waited so long with fitting those bodies (Mario, the penguin and Jigoroh, all zombies with relative low numbers compared to others in their grp) with a shadow?
(this post might seem a bit unstructured sorry about that)
