Robin joined the StrawHats because she had nowhere else to go. She said it herself. Pauly still has somewhere to go. Unless Aqua Laguna submerges the whole city of Water7. Then i think he could join the StrawHats.

I've been thinking about Koby, that would be cool but Koby seems too loyal to the marines to help Luffy, he said that they would meet as enemies.
And heck, a fight between Luffy and Koby wouldn't be too bad either.
While i think that Pauly would make a great crewmate, i just don't think he'll make it. It's not that he doesn't have a tragic past or anything, it's the fact that Franky has one. This isn't to say that Pauley doesn't, just that when have they really had a flashback about a character's past that didn't have some huge role (Vivi's the only one who comes to mind that didn't join the crew).

That's not to say something bad didn't happen to him in the years between that flashback and hooking up with Iceberg. His father could have been a deadbeat with gambling debts. His sister could have turned out to be a "shameless" prostitute. ;) You never know what could have happened with him and his family. He had to end up with Iceberg somehow.

How would they get to Inpel Down though?
The way Nami talks about it, it sounds like the Marines take their prisoners on shore at Aeneas Lobby, take them through the courthouse, out through the Gates of Hell, onto a dock, and then on to either the Marine Headquarters or Inpel Down. The Sea Train tracks most likely end at the Lobby (though if Tom's alive, it wouldn't surprise me if there's another Sea Train that links these government institutions from the other side of the Lobby), so the Straw Hats will have to get some other transportation when they get there if they want to continue on to Inpel.
At any rate, they'd have to commandeer a government ship to go from there. That or simply go right through the Courthouse with their train and onto the tracks outside (which would be a pretty awesome visual).
If they do that though, they're going to be swarmed by Marines direct from the Headquarters, probably enough of them to make a Buster Call look like a social call.
Like Omae and ooshi, I tend to think that they'll have to go back to Water 7 at least for a while; they still need a ship if nothing else and won't have a chance to get one for a while if they keep pressing forward. It wouldn't surprise me though if they don't back to Water 7 go with the knowledge via CP9 that Tom is alive and well at Inpel Down and that they will return to the Lobby to go on to Inpel with the specific purpose of rescuing him.
That'd be a good first test for Franky's dream ship. That or Pluton, let's see how these government pricks deal with an Ancient Weapon knocking on their front door.
Even if they don't go to Inpel Down, I'd still say that we'll see at least part of it. Outside of Aokiji, nobody has come closer to killing Luffy than Crocodile and I think he'd be very receptive to an offer by, let's say, Spandam of a pardon in exchange for killing somebody that he already hates.
Complicating things since 2009.

Hmm…since Robin is stuck with the Government. Perhaps she will go to the HQ, while Usopp and Franky are sent down to Impel Down.
That is if the train isn't intercepted, or Sanji takes out EVERYONE. That would kick (No pun intended) ass, but I'm doubtful.
I get the feeling they'll toss her into Impel Down for good, they have no real use for her now, they're not trying to ressurect an ancient weapon here, they're trying to build one. So her potential as a Government tool has dwindled.
She's much too dangerous to the Government, to be given any amount of freedom, they sure as hell don't want her or anyone else awakening another weapon(s) to oppose their 'Pluton'. So keeping Nico Robin incarcerated must be one of their top priorities, remember once you enter through the the gates of justice, "you'll never see the light of day again". So for Robin to be locked away, with no contact with outside world, is just what the Govt. would want, to have a real chance to end this 'Pirate age'.

Well, where are they going to go if they escape?
According to Nami, after you pass the Gates of Justice, the only choices are Impel Down and the Marine Headquarters. Neither of those would be very appealing to a prisoner.
The close proximity of the Marine Headquarters also means that most of the higher level prisoners are probably escorted by top level Marines. Somebody like Crocodile might even have warranted being escorted by Aokiji or another of the Big Three personally.
I wonder if Aeneas Lobby is actually built on the Red Line with Impel Down being located in a channel through the mountains; that would physically prevent you from sailing anywhere but straight ahead.
I also wonder why Gold Roger wasn't taken there, was he executed in Logue Town strictly for symbolic purposes or did the Government think he was too dangerous to be taken to Impel Down and decided to get it over with?

The Straw Hats would have to plow right through the building to use the tracks that lead to Impel Down though, unless the train tracks skirt Aeneas Lobby and there are stations on either side. That might be the case as well; prisoners debark and do a perp walk while the train circles around and waits for them on the other side.

thank you! that was the very first thing that popped into my head when Impel Down was mentioned. i'm thinking the latter. he's caused way too much trouble and they probably knew to give him any more time to was to give him chance to get away and do some more damage. we all know how it goes. we've seen it happen before. just ask any james bond villain. not that roger is anywhere close to being james bond. what i mean is, you give the guy 15 minutes to look around while you monologue on how grand your evil scheme is and how futile it is to escape and before you know it, he's climbing out that damn ventilation shaft again.

Somehow I admire the stability of the things in OnePiece world. It's not only Luffy's hat and everybody's clothes which seem to last forever (except if some nudity is required), but also the train! I would have thought that they would have some spare train in case of any breakdown :huh: (Yesterday I lost quite a lot of time due to breakdowns of three major trains and subways ….)

Maybe Impel Down was only built during the last 22 years and Logue Town was the place for all executions at that time?

Keeping him alive just gives him a chance to escape (and the Marines would never live that down) and gives him a chance of saying something that might embarrass the Government, which he did anyway. That wasn't a beaten man on that execution platform; the Government had to have known that and it must have frightened them.
So executing him then and there was probably just the expedient method; too bad for them that even killing him in this fashion still gave him a chance to launch the Pirate Era by telling people his treasure is still out there and to go and get it if they can.

That might the case, though I have to wonder why executions would take place so far away from Mariejoa. If that's all there is to it, you'd think that Roger'd warrant special treatment if only because the Government would want to trumpet their victory over him.
I'd definitely execute the guy crudely in front a large crowd in his hometown.

The Marines always wanted to execute pirates in front of public whenever they can; that's why if you bring the pirates in alive, you don't get the 30% cut of the bounty (Yup, if Luffy dies he's gonna be worth 70 million--It's in Whiskey Peak's arc, see Igaram's explanation).

Basically, when Oda adds a new member to them, the chapter's title would say "xxx-th person". Nami, who should've been the second one, didn't get her "Second Person" title until after Arlong Park.
