I wonder if Brooke was originally a pile of skeletons, but was an early experiment of Dr. Begabank's where inanimate objects "eat" devil fruits (maybe the hair hair fruit?), which was thrown/cast away or maybe escaped?
Maybe that's why the Florian Triangle is so "cursed", because it actually is connected to the government and their experiments or something.
Damn, Oda never ceases to amaze me. I can't wait to see some decent scans of this chapter, especially to get a better look at Brooke. I love how Oda gives us the introduction to a classic pirate story, "The Ghost Ship", and introduces such a memorable character all in the first chapter of the arc. Luffy's poop question and Brooke calmly answering was hilarious. Though I doubt Brooke will actually join, he is definatly an awesome character.
We also get to see a funny scene with the sweet new aquarium. And a glimpse at the Soldier Dock System, though now I just have more questions about the name. Maybe a different transformation will make more sense. And I wonder what the significance of the opened booze barrel will be.
Man, Oda really packs a lot into his 19 pages some weeks…

BROOKE IS THE MUSICIAN. He was the musician on the ship before it was turned into ghosts, and now he wants to join the crew. But he's bound to the Florian Triangle by a curse that the Straw Hat's need to break. That's my theory.

I have a bizarre theory that Brooke will wind up being the villain in this arc. Going back to The Offering, they only escaped that storm because of Nami's excellent meteorology skill and Thousand Sunny's Soldier Dock System. Then there's Brooke's comment "Binks drink…sent," hinting that he may have known about The Offering and the curse it brought down upon desecrators. Since the storm came up before they entered the Triangle, any other crew opening that barrel would be dead before they drifted into his domain. Whether this means that he's amassing a ghost crew to rival that of Usopp's (hah!) or that he simply likes playing lethal pranks on people remains to be determined. I'd need more evidence.

Well he hasn't killed in over 5 years that for sure because of his undercover work…maybe that changed him. Kaku was a good man that did bad things. Luffy's a pirate but he's still "good" even though he apparently did a bad pirate thing by stealing gold from Skypiea.
Who wishes that the main villain of this arc is also a skeleton? Maybe it can be someone like Cortez from Paper Mario 2? That would be awesome! A huge monstrous skeleton! This takes a break from human enemies (except Arlong).

E: He is their Friend for a while, then something Causes him to turn bad and he either comes back to his senses and helps them escape, comes back and fully joins, or stays Evil and is beaten

soliders killing people is a wildcard. depends on the reason. ie WG OP soldiers fighting for slavery = bad.
on a lighter note- ive fallen in love for skellefro. he equates perfectly in the crew. hope he sticks around.
Despite all the arguements about whether or not Brooke is going to be a permanent member, he is officially, one of my, new favorite characters. I don't know how Oda can make characters so damn lovable at first sight. I'm not sure…there's just something about Brook that is...great. There is this air of greatness about him...and...well...he's great. I love him. He's so polite...and his laugh is gold.

Two reasons why Brooke should join:
1. It breaks the trend that characters only join after their respective arc. Oda loves to break trends and surprize us. Also given Brooke's laid-back, comical personality he's the perfect person to join without first having to go through his tragic flashback and painful memories.
2. There simply isn't enough time to have one character join after every big arc. They are already halfway through Grand Line and if Luffy's crew is gonna be 10 members big or if he wants 10 crewmates then they better come in the near future or the won't have enough time to develop or adapt to the story. Imagine the last member joining just before Raftel. Whatever kind of dream he will have, it won't be the same struggle everyone else has gone through to fufill their dreams. This person isn't gonna be worthy to say "I sailed the Grand Line with the Pirate King" and so on.

I don't think Brooke is responsible for the killing people who enters this area. He said he hasn't seen a live being for 10 years. If he does indeed kill them, then he should be seeing live people quite often.

British accent, that guy just screams British accent. Not sure how that would sound in Japanese, but I'm sure they can make it work somehow.
Maybe they try and hire someone from England that knows very good Japanese so they can get him to voice the character instead of having some forced accent that would bring shame to our already tarnish accent, thanks to those damn Americans and their sterotypical "Wot Wot Old Bean" posh accent.
He might have a typical Barbossa-like voice… Doesn't seem like it but I'm thinking of the "Yohoho" part. Maybe slightly higher pitched.

Act in absence of the captain, check supplies + shock, keep other officers and crew in place amongst many other things.
He is the Captain's right-hand man and the top officer in the crew.

Wow, you certainly just went ahead and slapped Brooke into your sig. Also, there is still NOTHING about Brooke on Wikipedia. And I think his design was based off of Slash from that band.
I could see Brook with the Earl of The Millenium's voice from D Gray Man. I still find it strange how he just said sure with no problem. Brook is a shift character imo.

Now that I finally got a better look at the chapter, I think I like Brook a bit more, but I'm still unsure he's going to stay around unless there's some way for living skeletons to exist outside the Florian Triangle. Meanwhile, I liked some of the goofing off time on the Thousand Sunny (even if Luffy screwed up the aquarium throwing in the shark) and finally seeing Franky in something other than a floral shirt. Oh, and Thousand Sunny's paddle TF…really cool.
