What are your favorite old school anime and mangas. (From the 60's 70's or 80's) I really like "Gegege no Kitarou", "Dororo", "Lupin the 3rd" and the first "Devilman" series. What are some of your faves?

How'd you get to see those?
My favorite old anime would probably be Dragon Ball. I know, it's not that old, but hey, it's one of the oldest I've seen and enjoyed. The 80s Astro Boy was also pretty good.
-
Hokuto no Ken is the greatest, and still is.

**I got to see the "Gegege no Kitarou", "Devilamn" and "Dororo" from some bootleg subbed vhs tapes at the comic shop near here. Apparently theres a bootleg dubbing company near here because they regularly get new vids of them in. I don't know where THEY got them though.
-
Where, Cali? I'd kill to see those.

Buc wins.
-
two old time favorites would have to be the orignal Astro Boy and Bubblegum Crisis 2032 , I could watch Bubblegum Crisis over and over.
-
I used to love Tezuka's Fantastic Adventures of Unico as a kid. I have it on DVD now, but it's not official…because no official American release exists, unfortunately.
I also really like Kagaku Ninjatai Gatchaman. Can't wait for ADV to release the DVDs. :)
Lupin III is cool. I wish they would have shown more episodes on adult swim. I feel like a heel for not having seen the original Japanese though.
And then there's Robotech. I also feel like a heel for never seeing the original Japanese Macross. But Robotech was really not bad for what it was. It's definately more watchable than dubbed One Piece. ;)
"Yes, Rick…only a dream..."There are also some anime that I like that originaly came out a long time ago, but were remade recently, like Cyborg 009 and Kikaider.
-
I love Lupin the Third and Robotech. I have all 14 volumes of the first manga series of Lupin the Third and the movie "Secret of Mamo". I also have three Robotech books going from the beginning to the "Southern Cross" story arc with Max and Mirya's brat as the main charcter, not to mention the Robotech Battlecry game.
-
Ive seen all of Hokuto No Ken 1 & 2
Getter Robo
Demon City Shinjuku
Vampire Hunter D
umm what else
New Domion Tank Police
8 Man After
Galaxy Express 999 and Adieu Galaxy Express 999
Starblazers ( aka Space Battleship Yamato )
Robotech is awesome as well
Ohh Lupin III is awesome as well
If you get a chance go see Castle of Cogliostro
it's directed by Hayo Miyazaki ( sp? ) -
Guh, I forgot!
Space Adventure Cobra! and Rose of Versailles. They're pretty old, but definitely worth checking out.
-
I have to agree with Lupin III and Dragonball. Also, Ronin Warriors (Samurai Troopers) was pretty cool as well.
I guess I should mention Voltron as well, seeing as how it was probably the first anime I ever saw growing up (man, am I old).
-
Robotech, Rose of Versailles, AtsroBoy are pretty cool…
but I've to confess that Lupin Sansei will always be my absolute favorite...
-
I didn't much care for the original Vampire Hunter D, but I loved Bloodlust (which is not old at all). I own the DVD.

Oh god! How could I forget Voltron and the Ronin Warriors?! I loved that stuff back when I was a kid.
-
Is gegege no kitaro that old? I loved that show as a kid! lol Castle of Cagliostro is a really good film. The Lupin III series is good as well. Unico - I watched hte movie, but that actually scared me … ^_^;; Jungle taitei Leo was another good movie from that age. Other forever running shows like Chibi marukochan, Doraemon, adn Sazaesan, I like a lot as well.
I seem to like most old school anime. I've liked most of the bits and pieces I've seen. Can't remember all but some were: Hokuto no ken, ashita no joe, ace wo nerae (dorama w/ ueto aya was pretty good as well), candy candy, versailles no bara, gundam, Touch...
-
Doraemon! It was the first manga/anime I have seen. Though I wonder if this is old school..
-
i liked pretty much all that stranded here when i was a child. unfortunately i have forgotten most of the titles.
but my favourite was, and still is, ginga nagareboshi gin. my love towards it is eternal, and the nostalgic shot it gives is immeasurable.damn, i didn't even know that there was vampire hunter d. before bloodlust. what rock have i been living under?
-
I find the early dragon ball quite funny. puts a smile on my face.
I also like Cyborg 009 (got 3 volumes) its pretty old school.
The old school mangas I'd really love to read is The Vampire and Astro Boy by Osamu Tezuka.
-
yeah the original Vampire Hunter D has more action but Bloodlust has more story. Weird ain't it LOL
-
Dragonball, because tats the only oldschool manga I've read.
-
Crayon ShinChian XD
it's fairly old but still going : x
it's the first manga I read… -
Speed Racer
I just loved how everyone talked sooo fast. I wonder if anyone ever passed out  ?
-
Lupin III and Dragonball.
-
Gatchaman and Space Battleship Yamato. When I was a kid I thought Desslok was so scary, and I thought Berg Katse (Zoltar) was, er, ah, hm, different?
-
Nothing beats Dragonball, Robotech and Astro Boy. Don't like Lupin the 3rd that much -_-
-
Unico - I watched hte movie, but that actually scared me …
Because of the guy that turns into the gigantic evil demonic being? :D There's actually 3 movies. I've only seen the one, though.

Well, he was. He was a female and male twin that got merged together into a sometimes male, sometimes female mutant.

No, it was some comic shop in Nashville, Tennessee called Phantom Realm. I go down there almost every two months and they always have new volumes on the bootlegged VHS tapes. The guy that runs it holds them for me because he says i'm the only one that buys them
is gegege no kitaro that old? I remember watching it as a kid._
The one you watched was probobly the remake. I was talking about the original "Gegege no Kitarou" series from 1963.
-
Dragonball, Bubblegum Crisis (original ova series), Gunbuster.
-
Gatchaman ruled! Loved watching it as 'Battle of the Planets' and can't wait to get it on DVD.
Loved Robotech. Watching Macross Saga again and loving it. Never realized just how good it was. Voltron was fun for a little bit but then it got boring.
And I have only watched one episode of Speed Racer. Ever. It was…. interesting. Someday I might break down and give it a chance. -
Dragonball, followed by Transformers, followed by Lupin.
-
Ranma 1/2 Its the best manga ever besides OP and Monster.
DragonWarrior; why is robin williams dancing with naruto and a japanese girl?
-
Lupin the 3rd and the original Dragonball.
-
No anime/manga has made me cry as I cried when I watched/read those two: Candy candy and Lady Georgie. Oh God. That reminds me of when I was a little girl. I loved shoujou XD But those two ended so sadly…
City hunter <--- I fell in love with him ^_^ He was so sexy!!!
Dragon Ball.
Rose of Versaille <--- so tragic but so good. I learnt more about the French revolution watching that anime then at school. =pHmmm I was watching them in french and italian...so actually I don t really know the actual title -_- anyway...
Mila e shiro <-- It was about volley ball. The girl had orange hair but she sure made me dream! I LOVE volley ball and I wanted to be as great as she was.
Lamu
Maison Ikoku
Ranma 1/2 <-- Funniest manga/anime ever!! I ll never be tired of it.
Jayce et les conquÃrants de la lumière.
Ulyss 31
Saint seiya
Cobra
Goldorak
Ken
Kimagure Orange Road
Albator 84
You re under arrest
Nadia
And more... When I was a kid I sure watched a lot of anime...thing that I m not doing anymore...
And more...But if there was one that I hated it was Captain tsubasa -_- sighs It took him a whole week to score one goal!!! o_O And he could even make a whole in the wall! What kid would believe that??? It sure made a lot of boys dream...
-
The Fist of the North star was a great 80's anime
-

Gatchaman can be preordered at Amazon now.
The following volumes will be released June 16:
Gatchaman: Collectors Edition Vol. #01, Episodes #1-5 (125 minutes) $14.98
Gatchaman: Collectors Edition Vol. #02 , Episodes #6-10 (125 minutes) $14.98
Gatchaman: Collectors Edition Box Set #01, Episodes #1-10 + bonus disc (250 minutes): $44.98That's why I like ADV. 5 episodes for only $15. That's how anime DVDs should be. ^_^ Hopefully the whole rest of the series will be released. They seem pretty confindent that it will.
Features for the box set include Japanese, English subbed and Englished dubbed episodes, clean opening and closing animation, episode commentary, Gatchaman karaoke, profile of Ken, character sketches of Ken, episode sketches, interviews with the English staff and cast and audition footage. Features for the individual volumes appear to be episode commentary and Gatchaman karaoke.
Info on the voice cast and characters:
http://www.animeondvd.com/news/pr.php?pr_view=521I find it really amusing that Jinpei is being played by the same person that does Kanami Chidori from FMP and Yukari from Azumanga Daioh. XD Not sure what I'll think of the dub…it'll be the THIRD time this series has been dubbed. At least in this case the dub is only optional. Yay SUBBIES!

Dragonball, Fist Of The North Star, Captain Herlock, Ranma.
-
area 88 is one of my favorite pre dragonball manga.

Has anyone seen an Anime film called 'Super Grand Prix' i dont know what its called in Japan but its really quite cool. It must be 60's or early 70's Anime, because it has that vintage feel to it. I recently picked the DVD up in a cheap little pound shop near my collage for a pound. I must admit when i first picked it put i had my doubts but when i got it home to wach i really enjoyed it. I wont spoil the story for you if your going to track it down, but i really remomend it for you Otakus who like the vintage stuff.
-
Vampire Hunter D. I saw it yesterday and I thought it was kickass :D .
-
Well, I'm thinking Akira was written in the 80s (the fact that nobody else has chosen it makes me wonder, though), and it's one of my all-time favorites, so that's the obvious choice.
Other than that, I haven't really read/watched anything that old (that I liked, anyway). I'm a newbie of the manga/anime world, I guess.
-
I've seen a lot of old stuff. From movies I liked Wicked City (one of the sickest movies I've ever seen) and Akira. From TV series I liked Rose of Versailles, Voltron, Sabre Rider and the Star Sheriffs, City Hunter, Cat's Eye and that anime version of Treasure Island.
Btw, can someone please tell me how Voltron (the one with the lions, not the cars) and Sabre Rider ended. -
Dragon ball is a great old school anime
Same goes with Vampire Hunter D, Lupin the 3rd.
I also enjoyed Cooking Master Boy (Chuukai Ichiban)–>dont know if this was old school but it looked old! -
Oh yeah, I also forgot to add the original Dragonball. That show rocked! Unlike some other…
-
Lupin III is possibly the best one I've seen. Too bad they don't show any new episodes on [adult swim].
-
Shinzo Ningen Casshern
Gatchaman
Devilman
Mach Go Go Go! (Speed Racer)
Kinnikuman
Gegege no Kitarou
Ninja Sensei Tobikage
Harmaggedon
Captain Tsubasa
Babel II -
Urusei Yatsura <3 (I love this series so much I got the $250 15 CD box set OST. Now that, mon ami, is devotion  )
I also like Leiji Matsumoto's stuff - Ginga Tetsuro 999, Captain Harlock, etc, and I also enjoy a lot of those campy sci-fi adventures like Bubblegum Crisis (it's kind of sad that barely anyone knows BGC these days. I remember back in '97 or so when I first got into anime that was one of THE THINGS to see  ).
I need to see more. I've been slacking off
-
City Hunter is good, too.
