Which one do you prefer food to be cooked with?
Microwave, or Oven?

ALERT! ALERT! POINTLESS TOPIC ALERT!
Anways, Oven.
-
Microwave. XD
… They be makin' some nice popcorn.

I Like ovens, Food is usually alot more, Tasteful
-
Microwaves are for the man on the go. Like me whenever cooking a lets say chicken sandwich or cold pizza I just push the 30 seconds button then I'm good to go.
-
Oven. I find food tastes better when it comes out of the oven. I will however microwave some things.
-
Wait! This is a worthwhile discussion. I'll tell you why, because no decent meal should ever be cooked in the microwave. The microwave is for reheating things, thawing frozen food, and cooking microwave-specific TV dinners. If you attempt to cook raw food in the microwave and prepare a meal, your food will come out tasting like crap and the texture will be rubbery and uneven.
You can't replace baking, frying, or grilling with a microwave.
There is, of course, the toaster oven, and the George Forman grill if you are space challenged. -
Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii~crowave~!!!
Pwness.
But of course, I know what to cook in the oven and kitchen counter grill. Good luck making hamburgers or a entire pizza in a microwave.
-
Anyone ever cook something that wasn't precooked or prepacked specifically for the microwave and have it taste good, other than say, potatoes or frozen vegetables?
-

Yep your right the crap would take horrible, even some of the tv dinner taste like rubber.
-
Even then I think things come out a lot better in the oven. Like on the bakc, now they have oven options! but usually that make them crispy, and I only like crispy soemtimes on certain things, like Onion Rings and such, and then I want them to be soft but crispy and not too crunchy! yays!
Oven tastes WAAAAAAY better. Oven all the way, whats the point of food if it tastes like dirt-covered rubber?
-
George Foreman grill for me.
-
Microwave, because you can have a lotttttt of fun with it. Check this out:
http://margo.student.utwente.nl/el/microwave/
I actually tried a whole bunch of these and nothing bad happened. Really fun, heh heh.
-

Plus, it disruptes the Phone Line. The sleazy bastard…
-
Wow, lot of microwave hating. XD
@Zulen: Wtf are you talking about?
-
Eh? Talk on the phone while next to a active microwave.
Also, I hide the symptoms of my drugs perfectly.
-
Oven. While I do love my microwave, I can't bake cookies or my delicious Italian Bread in it.
But the microwave is fantastic when I'm feeling lazy. Toss something in there, press a few buttons, and bing! A good meal. Just watch what you put in there. (Hint: calamari does not reheat well in a microwave.)
-
I find most meat that isn't precooked to be unenjoyable. Precooked food is usually cheaper, at least at the market I go to. I'll take Tyson Chicken Nuggets over Aunt Gloddy's plucked pultry surprise anyday.
Root Beer's Microwave: the only way, all the way.
-
With the passionate fires of my love, obviously.
Anyways, as Cosmic said, for acutally cooking anything, I go with the over.
-
Table-top stove for me. Oven follows, then microwave; the latter is really a poor medium for cooking anything freshly, euck.
-
I like the Microwave because it makes Popcorn
-
I don't hate microwaves, I love them. I just understand their purpose. NOT to cook meals, other than microwave dinners.
And it's totally false that precooked food costs cheaper. Unless you're talking about buying those cheap little burritos or something. When you actually have to shop for a family, you will find that buying prepackaged, precooked food gets very expensive. Not to mention it's not very healthy or nutritious.
Cooking is kind of becoming a lost art among the average family these days. Everyone's too busy to cook and parents don't teach their kids anymore. And yes, microwaves are good for popcorn. :) Although they aren't as good OR fun as making popcorn with a popcorn maker or Jiffy-Pop. I grew up before the time of microwave popcorn, believe it or not.
-
I've never seen cooking as an art, and I still don't. Why others do is one of the greatest mysteries I've come across in my short life. I cannot stress out enough just how bizzare I see cooking as an art.
-
**Oven = cooking
Microwave = reheating
that how I see it for the most part. So oven for me. Not that don't like microwaves.**
-
Cooking IS an art. Not ALL cooking is art, just like not all drawings/paintings are art. Some drawings and paintings are just materials thrown together made to resemble something, just like some cooking is.
-
I do like the taste of a meal cooked on a stovetop or an oven much better than a meal cooked in a microwave. But I tend to use my microwave more for two reasons: One I am a very busy person. I have two jobs and go to school. I don't have time to spend 30-45 mins on one meal. Two I hate to spend another additional 30-40 mins cleaning up. And i can not stand a dirty kitchen.

You win; every thought I have ever had about cooking in my entire life.
Microwaves are good for hot chocolate.

I'm marrying a chef! Hehe.
Microwaves are good for hot chocolate.
Actually, I usually prefer to boil water in a kettle. But tonight I microwaved a cup of milk for this super Godiva cocoa I got for Christmas. Now I'm sort of regretting it because I think I'm turning lactose intolerant. >.<
btw, best way to reheat cold pizza is to microwave it until it's luke warm, then put it in the toaster oven. Quick and crisp. I also like to finish Hot Pockets in the toaster because the microwave never gets them crispy enough, even with the "crisping sleave".
-
Oven ofcourse.
and for those who like Microwaves read this : http://www.relfe.com/microwave.html

Microwave oven! (Do you see what I did there?)
-

I used to make microwaved cheese sandwiches when I was 14-16. They actually turned out pretty good sometimes.

So did I, man those sandwhiches were great.
As for preference, I guess it would be the microwave. Since I use that more than the stove.
-
Hm, that particular site is a little strange, but there does seem to be a lot of evidence to suggest that there's unhealthful effects caused by microwaves. I'm always a little suspicious of them. I mean, we're radiating our food. Are we really sure that's a good idea?
This article is similar, but it's not quite at the paranoia level of the other site. http://www.thehealthierlife.co.uk/article/3568/microwave-ovens.html
@Dr.:

Microwaved sandwiches are soggy. I prefer a nice crispy toaster oven sandwich or grilled in a pan. It takes only a slightly longer and much tastier.
I think we'd all benefit from using the microwave less.
-
Soggy, you say? The bread was always pretty normal for me… it's just the cheese that gave me problems. Bacon's pretty good undercooked as well. Just stick a few slices in, let it cook for about 30 seconds, then enjoy. I stopped when I learned about trichinosis, but damn they tasted good.
-
Stove is my first choice, but after that I'll use the oven.
The stove is definitely the best though because I can monitor everything that's going on on the stove constantly. I even use it if I'm going to make hot chocolate or heat up some canned soup.
There are just too many culinary abominations that are closely related to the microwave, namely hot pockets.
Also George Foreman grills are amazing and I gleefully plug them.
Seriously, best damn grilled sandwiches I've ever had.
-
Hot Pockets would be culinary kickassinations (I made that word up lol) if it was possible to get the whole thing hot. For me, most of it would be cold and maybe half of it would be warm.
-
@Roz:

Ah yes, the forgotten stove. Best used for heating up soup, which I eat a lot. Also used to make stir fry and simmer sauces. Recommendation: Trader Joe's Green Curry with chicken, vegetables, and jasmine rice.

Haha…reminds me of the South Park episode about World of Warcraft.
I like Hot Pockets occasionally, but they're not something that should be part of a regular diet. I like the breakfast ones.If you're not getting your whole Hot Pocket hot, I suggest doing what I do and put it in the toaster (regular or toaster oven) for a couple of minutes. They'll be crispier too.
-
Frying an egg in olive oil and sticking it on a piece of toast takes only a few seconds longer and tastes at least ten times better, though. Hot pockets are scary.
-
I'm not sure it will fit, but thanks. I'll try it out and hopefully eat a good Hot Pocket for the first time in my life.
-
Ovens make things crispy. Microwaves make things hot fast but softy.
Wait, what?
I use my microwave a lot since my mum usually isn't home and I use the stove for anything else. The oven is not used very often and it takes a long time to heat up.
We used to have a small, microwave sized oven. I loved that. Much better than the microwave.
Meat pies in the microwave go soft and uncrispy.
-

Also, do you have one of those microwaves that has revolving disc? If not, try turning it around a couple of times and increasing the amount of time by 20-30 seconds.
-
Can you cook hot pockets in the oven :D
-
@--MRED--:

I don't see why not. Give it a try.
-
Probablly. But you should wrap it in foil if you do, otherwise it will turn out TOO crispy. It's better if you just microwave them at least until they're no longer frozen and then pop them in the oven or toaster oven…I even slip it in the regular toaster like toast, lol.
-
Oh yeah, I take my statement back, I love the stove top the most.
Though it didn't say stove top, oven or microwave.
-
MY hot-dogs are done in the microwave. I'll even eat hamburgers cooked that way.
-
If we had the option, I'd pick Pot .. but, Microwave.

Ewwww…nasty. Do you people have no taste buds?
