Wish there was an orchestral version of…all of 'em.

Where should I train to level 99? I've done pretty much everything and I wanna max out my character's levels.

12,000 bc Dimensional Vortex at the part where there are those Blue Monsters (the end of it).

I went there today and got about 9 levels for Chrono, Frog, and Ayla. It got boring after awhile though. I think I'll start a new game+ soon. Level 80 is more than enough to beat the boss in the very beginning.

Level Grinding isn't really supposed to be fun.

Well I beat Chrono Trigger for the first time today and, overall, I must say it was a very enjoyable game, if a bit on the short side (but I guess that makes sense since you have to replay it to get all the endings). Anyway, some comment/questions I have.
! So Chrono and Marle get married at the end, which is all well and good, but did I miss something or did their relationship get like zero development throughout the game? Seriously, I think Kino and Ayla got more development. Also, what was the deal with Lucca and the baby at the end? Do I have to get a different ending to find out? If so, then don't spoil it for me.
So yeah, great game and certainly has a lot of replay value now that I can try to get all the endings and play through Dimensional Vortex.
-
Chrono and Marle had relationship development throughout the game, its just subtle because Chrono doesn't, y'know, speak. At all. Plus, no FMV CGI sequences to forcibly push it home like in modern rpgs, you have to infer more. There's lots of scenes where marle sits next to him or just talks to him specifically and you get what she's feeling, and have to infer Chrono's take on it, because again, no dialouge. Add in the fact that the two race across time and space to save one another time and time again, and that by defualt they are likely to spend the most time together in your party due to story, it adds up.
Also, some of the other endings do say a bit more about the two of them specifically and are a little more poigniant. A little sadder, a little less grand, but I like some of the alternate "not as good" endings better, as theyre more interesting character studies.
-
Plus, y'know, there's that scene at Death Peak with her. By that point, it's pretty set-in-stone.

Fair enough. Actually I didn't keep Marle in my party too often cause, well…why does she have to be so damn weak? So maybe I missed some parts due to that.
Oh and I was thinking the same thing in regards to Chrono. It's hard to depict a building relationship when one of the characters doesn't even talk
-
i think modern rpg's have spoiled you. :) I totally got it, and things go over my head a lot.
as for lucca and the baby….play chrono cross.
-

If she's in the party. I always had Lucca hanging on me.
But seriously, a lot of the developmet comes from just having her in the party because of the responses you'll get. That's another reason CT is so badass, because even though there are SO MANY combinations, characters don't just say some predetermined sexless and emotionless response, they all have character-specific dialogue. Some of the best and informative responses about the world and what's going on come from Lucca and Robo while Ayla grunts and only occassionally says something funny in exchange for having the Charm ability. Marle says more lovey-dovey stuff.

Oh I got it. It's not like I was totally surprised. It wasn't like it was totally out of left field like "Chrono and Marle are married?! WTF?!" Just saying, could have had some more development. But you're right, perhaps I have been spoiled.
Play Chrono Cross? Hmm, perhaps some day.

And as tedious as it may be to replay the game over and over to see all the dialogue, it does show that the guys at Square Enix put the effort, which is very admirable.

Chrono cross (or trigger for that matter) were never released in the uk (although the ds version is definatly coming soon

see, i liked having marle in the party, cause she was a healer. i like using my healers. (that, and i picked up on the little romance, so i'm sure when in doubt, just said to myself, marle and chrono should just be together)
-
There was this one part of the game where if you go to the castle with marle in your party you can watch her bitch out her father, its hillarious XD

Are you serious?

Are you serious?
Very…..
until final fantasy 7 most rpgs were never released in the uk due to marketing idiots thinking they won't sell over here so a large number of early rpgs never made it to the uk
even after FF7 some never made it to the uk (want to play a tales of game in the uk? tough shit.....)
As I said though chrono trigger is getting its long belated release in the uk next month and I would be happy about this except I imported it
-
Holy CRAP! They denied you your right to the CT? Facists.
-
It happens all the time the US didn't get Shinobido Imashime but other places like the UK & Aus did.
-
see i would think RPGs would market well in the UK. just seems to go together like peanut butter and jelly.
-
-
Banned in the UK because it has nothing to do with racing or soccer.

It's a Chrono Chross tie-in >_>
If you play it on SNES/SFC there is no marriage scene.

Not just that wonderful game (being an aussie, our game releases just about mirrored the uks), our entire Square library in the pre-FF7 era consisted entirely of Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore.
I was lucky that there was a local games rental store in my area that had import games so I was able to enjoy such treats as Chrono Trigger and Breath of Fire 1/2 (Mario RPG and FF4/6 were still out of my grasp though)
I receive little consolation knowing that we got an exclusive and great RPG that the us did not (Terranigma)It was only a few years later that I discovered a wonderful thing:
God bless Emulation! -
Just yesterday, I beat the new final boss, and when I started the New Game Plus, I beat Lavos at the very beginning, with only Chrono and Marle. Now, I'm going to try to beat the game only five characters, and after that, try to get each ending at my own leisure.

Ummm noooooooooooo. They've had the Pal SNES version on the shelves in Gamestation for years now. It was released just in VERY limited batches like the Suikoden series. A friend of mine even owns the PAL one and we used to play on it years ago.
-
ah, i see i was indeed misinformed.
-
I don't know if anyone has started a Chrono Trigger thread yet but here you can talk about anything relating to it because it's AWESOME!
I got the game a few weeks ago and now I can't stop playing it! The battling is intense, the story is epic, the characters are somewhat decent. I love this game. Oh and I have a question if anyone can answer it it. By the time You've opened up at least 5 other portals in the end of time realm and you can go and fight Lavos in the year 1999, what happens after you beat him? Have you beaten the game?
-
For real ?
-
Eh, he's a newb, he doesn't know how things work here.
All right, NoMoreHeroes, I'm gonna give you a tip. At the top of the screen click the Search button and type in a keyword to search for any threads that may have to do with what you want to talk about. So in this you should have clicked Search, typed in Chrono Trigger, and then a Chrono Trigger thread should have come up in the results, because we already do have a Chrono Trigger thead.
'Kay?

-
oh you young whipper snappers. i bought this game 15 years ago. :P
to answer your question…um, you beat the game......
-
And gotten one of the many endings.
By the way, even if there wasn't already a thread, there is a video games subforum - just below this one.
-
After you beat Lavos, if you also destroy the Black Omen, you get a new game+ option where you get to replay the game with your end game levels and weapons, and have a shot at multiple new endings. Basically gviign you a new experiance immediatley in replaying the old game, because you are now a leveled up god.
-
Don't you get to do New Game + regardless of whether you destroy the Black Omen or not?
-
I'm pretty sure you do.
-
I got all the endings.
-
16 merged posts, yo.
-
If I remember correctly, you have to beat the black omen to unlock the new game + mode.
It's the only side quest you have to do.
